Cracking video both, i can certainly empathise with both of you, i started bricklaying in 1970 (retired from it now, 2 years ago), but to be fair it was a good life, hard but good. It enabled my wife and i to successfully bring up our 8 children. And i must say that both of your excellent video channels have helped me loads in being able to now go on and help my own (now adult children) with their refurbishment first home projects. So thanks Roger and Kirk you've both been a great help to me, and yes you're right, every day is a school day!! Please keep the great advice coming 😀👍.
Crazy this, ive just enjoyed watching this. I don't know why im so engrossed because i remember the conversation the first time 😂 Was a great day and was an honour to meet Roger and Dylan.
Pair of legends! I've learnt more than a few useful things on your channels. Having taken on the old family home you've both helped me to do decent DIY jobs, and I've enjoyed learning and using the skills you have been kind enough to share with us.
Loads of books about plastering, who'd have thought! My brother worked with a plasterer in a juvenile reform place, Father Roches in Cotk city, a wild spot.. Said he was the classiest guy he ever worked with, and the best tradesman. Walls were straight and glass like. His name was Gussie. God bless and rest Gussie who took the rough of Cork city in Father Roches and made things smooth. My brother Sean faked being rough to earn money and raise me, my siblings, cheers Sean, I got your back
Good hearing you lads talking about how the plastering trade has changed over the years. I'm retired now, but was a third generation plasterer, I started in 1972, very little skimming back then, it was nearly all float and set piece work on big sites, it was such hard graft, I dont think the youngsters could cope with it these days. There was so much to the trade back in those days too. A lot of people dont know that floor screeding, granolithic, fibrous plaster, rendering pebble dashing and tacking was all part of the job. I did it for 30 years before re-training as a carpenter, so much cleaner and easier than plastering the old way
I owe a lot to Kirk and people like you Roger. So far I used up 22 ton of plastering sand on garden walls/ landscape walls. Then indoors floating 140m2 house then 2 coat skimming ceils and walls. A self build, I did the M&E. But have done 24 years as a site manager. Started s student labourer, the jnr foreman, Foreman engineer, finally to large commercial or housing schemes. So I had the fundamentals of site organization. I have really enjoyed the step into plastering. No way would do jobs for others. I have complete respect for professional plasterers.
Used to work in that corkills making all the ceiling roses, cornice, dado rails, fireplaces, corbels etc with the fibrous plaster with heavy hesian skrim.nightmare trying to get them out the moulds without breaking them 😅
What a lovely guy Rodger is . The one thing I can say I can go one thing further from the plastering & steal all the thunder. Alan thE TILER nice piece of RUclips!
Its a pity that a group of the you tube trades dont get together and do a complete house renovation, Bit like homes under the hammer From start to finnish
You can see the hierarchy at work here..... Rodger the plumber sits on a nice aluminium bench 🫅.and Kirk the plasterer has to sit on an old beer crate. 😢
I remember in the late 80s or very early 90s a brick layer I new had to leave Britain due to him being under cut on price by the firms taking on cheap workers taking lower money , So he went over to Germany for several months , and told me over there a company were spraying plaster on the walls then the plasterers would follow with there trowels, Very hard going but paid pretty well,
I think it’s the painting that makes the job not the plastering😊. You do need some sensible plastering as a decorator though otherwise you will be sanding and filling forever.
Great listening. But I thought on the lump was where u got paid by the square meter, the brick, block, u done every day. the 70s 80s he Irish construction workers paid by cheque many did not have bank accounts, boss would meet them in pup, wher they would cash cheque, get a dinner and about 10 pints that evening, a winner for the pub owner,
By the way Roger - That chap from down South who said He! was the Fastest Spread Down Here! - His Pants are On Fire! - I STILL Hold The Record!! - {Nationally!!! } - And always 1st choice for Show-Houses 👍😉🤠 ............
No I'm the fastest plasterer in the UK also the best cool looking plasterer, I plaster faster than a young gazelle being chased by a leopard 🐆 I am the best and I agree
Hi and I’m sorry to bother you guys I’m new to woodworking and I don’t know who to ask. I’m disabled with rheumatoid arthritis which has turned my hands 90 degrees outwards. I use a wheelchair sometimes and had a couple of small strokes at present im using a dw604nt orbital sander nothing wrong with it it’s great but I’ve been looking at getting a small to medium open end drum sander. I’m looking at building end grain chopping boards and people say drum sander is best for end grain. Do you think this might be the best option for me I value your opinion on it and don’t really know anyone I can ask. Many many thanks steve 👨🏼🦽. P.s. keep up the fantastic work you do 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Steve I understand why people say a drum sander is best but they are expensive. You can get a belt sander with a stand and rest, or make one and it will do the same job but it can also be used for the face as well as the end grain. ruclips.net/video/GvTvEBQ1Lss/видео.html
@@SkillBuilder Yeah I understand an easy day but I’d rather be at home at 1pm with my feet up and having a beer! Earned my money, life’s about living, not working.
Can't believe you wanted to get out and work. You should have gone to uni and got a degree in Media and Psychology. Plastering boasting that they are the fastest is like chippies boasting about how many doors they can swing in a day. Back in the building boom of the 80's my mate had big gangs working all over the London docklands redevelopments, if you had a trowel and a hawk you were on. He could charge big money for every guy he put on the job. Fortunes were made.
The UK needs thousands more men like Kirk and Roger

The knowledge and the banter second to non.
Two great tradesmen having a brew and chatting. Talking about cash in hand jobs. That takes me back to my youth. Great video guys👍👍

two of my favourites in one video
Love this chat, two top blokes!
Great video Roger, plastering is an art, running moulds to replace damaged moulds is fantastic to see.
Great video chaps putting the world to rights . Spot on about being self employed …. Basically you have no rights 😒🧱👍🏼
2 of the best RUclipsrs! Thanks guys.
Superb video. Kirk is a true ambassador of the plastering trade & really knows his stuff great content from both channels
A lovely video; it was a pleasure to watch two masters of their trades together.

These Roger/Kirk Videos are great ! Wished it was twice as long ! All great stuff !
Play it at half speed.

Great video format, really enjoyed that!
2 legends there! Great vid
even self employed tradesmen who don't get involved with wet trades can learn an awful lot from Kirk. plus his livestreams are hilarious.
Great video. Keep up the great work both... 👍
Love it ❤️✌️
Roger I,m a spark like you you it’s all hidden. The real glory boys that put the icing on the cake in the building world are the carpet fitters..!
what a great question about his son plastering in the future
You can see the hierarchy at work here..... Rodger the plumber sits on a nice aluminium bench 🫅.and Kirk the plasterer has to sit on an old beer crate. 😢
just take a bit and go in neat top tip
Very enjoyable lads. Best.
Much appreciated!
He is a top man

So he went over to Germany for several months , and told me over there a company were spraying plaster on the walls then the plasterers would follow with there trowels,

My builder was telling me the same thing about plastered and floorers getting th glory. He spent months manhandling joints, plumbing , electrics etc.
Plasterers drink beer, Plumbers drink wine 😂
And Rodger can't drink anything as he is not a plasterer and he is not a real plumber 😅
OK Roger you do give it a go good on you for that I did enjoy the chat
Excellent video guys, Kirk, are you sure you don’t want to come down south, got a couple of ceilings that need overboarding, and plastering 🤔😂😂😂😂
These two with Fred dibbina should be on the back of pound notes
I think it’s the painting that makes the job not the plastering😊. You do need some sensible plastering as a decorator though otherwise you will be sanding and filling forever.
Id love to see Roger do a review of `our welsh chapel dream` thats just come out on channel 4.
site work is a race to the bottom lads
Good video
I spotted the hint of Scouse 😜
13:50 - Sounds just like Auf Wiedersehen Pet when Herr Fister used to turn up on Fridays with the lads pay packets. Lol
good crack

Hi Roger, do u fancy coming in to have a look what way we do luxury HMOs 😉
Personally speaking I would judge a society on how good its plumbing was !
Plumbum worker in lead ! What have the Romans ever done for us ???😂
Good video, I bet that plaster went off on you though
No it didn't and we didn't use any extra time. I think Kirk knows just when to hit it
You 2 must be slowest plasterers , how long is that tea time. HAHAHA. Good show chaps.
The decorators are the glory boys having to correct every tradesmans bad workmanship. Where artists
kirks not a bad fella for a wollyback 😂
🐑🤣
Wow let’s all feel sorry for the plumber the most well paid 😂
No mate sparky's get more than us and there's a decent difference if your gas safe or just a qualified plumber.
Apart from drinking tea have you learnt anything 😅
Please do the tax man video :-)
He has done it on his channel
Ex Spread 50 Arthritis.
If you used plastering accelerator you shouldn’t have time to sit down.
2 sets and im done in 4 hours.
Kirk using half time a lot, but this is off the back of him teaching me some tips and tricks. We had a nice relaxed day, try it sometime.
