  • Author Matt Haig has a large following online but has distinct misgivings about the impact of digital distractions on our well-being. He found himself an almost accidental spokesman on anxiety and depression after publishing a candid memoir, Reasons to Stay Alive. As Haig's new book, Notes on a Nervous Planet, appears, Newsnight’s Stephen Smith has met up with him.

Your life had been destroyed along time before social media. You just didn't know. But they did.

This morning I cancelled my facebook account. I feel that the arbitrary restriction of free speech has destroyed that particular platform. My life is better already.

Social media and microblogging were actually pretty fun before the world order started disintegrating

Just wait until the 6th mass extinction event hits the Earth this century due to natural events.
BUT, we, individually and as a society of individuals, have choices.
Do we, as a society of individuals try to help one another OR do we choose to have every individual basically fend for themselves or as smaller groups of 'selves'? AND, for those who have their safe underground bunkers while the rest of society dies a horrible death on the surface, will those who are in their bunkers have those bunkers turn into their own tomb? Choices in life, what exactly do we, individually and as a society of individuals, choose?
