Stamps has grown so much I can’t! I remember all the days where he would play sky island, and cave den with sqaishey :( It’s hard to believe it’s been 4 years since cave den😭
Now, I have no clue about any of your books. However, I am a firm believer in writing whatever you want first and worrying about who is reading it last, if ever. A book with stylized illustrations and a whimsical title is not necessarily a kids' book, and if people don't understand that, that's their problem. I don't think you really have to change anything.
I completely agree with what you say, & it might not even matter much with the platform stampy has - but marketing is important in a book, especially if you want strangers to pick up and read it - but I do think a whimsical design can still look nostalgic and tastefully stylised instead of immature, so it should all be fine! :D
darn, that is quite a pickle. ideally you shouldn't change anything, it's your book and it should be what you want it to be. however it's very true that presentation and the target demographic should be taken into consideration. if you were to change something, i think the illustrations or title etc would be easier to change. if you went back to change the actual text it would be a lot of work and could end up being kind of inconsistent. something you should definitely do is ask for other people's opinions! i don't know how down low you want to keep this, but getting opinions from others, maybe family or friends or something could really give you a hint on which direction to go in. try to also get the opinions of different kinds of people, especially people from different age groups since that's the main "problem" here. i hope you'll figure something out, you're a really cool and creative person and i'm sure you're capable of making something super great out of this!!
EG sings and does other things Yeah i agree that you need to get opinions from people of different age groups if you can because even if the book is aimed at 10-12 year olds there will be plenty of people outside of that age range who will equally enjoy reading it. (Example: I am 16 and I still love reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid which is aimed at around age 9)
Don't change the story if you don't want to. Trust me. I wrote three bricks of 200k words and more and I understand perfectly what you're saying. Maybe you'll need to get illustrations that would fit more the "darker tones" of the book, while keeping the charm you were trying to put into your stories. Another thing you could do would be make parents you trust read your volumes once they're done and ask them what age would be more appropriate for those books. You could also try a teenager cousin or trusted friend around that age. From those observations, you should be able to see what you should do next. Good luck!
Kids will read the books no matter the vocabulary and complexity, from what I've learned. A lot of people read Harry Potter fairly early (around 1st - 3rd grade) in my school. They'll work around the vocabulary and even if they don't understand the main themes of the book, they will enjoy the story.
I agree with you 100%, Shan. It's all about the story. The better the story, the less age matters, and it makes a person grow in vocabulary and imagination. I read the HP books when my own kids were mostly grown, and I loved the series - because it's an excellent story.
Also I think you are in the perfect place to sell your book. You have sort of shred the Stampy Cat personality for a bit so I think that people will buy the book because it is solely interesting, not because their child is begging for it.
I wouldn't change the writing in your book. As an illustrator I really hope people start making more illustrated books that are for older audiences since we don't really see much for the audiences between young kids and being old enough to read comics/graphic novels which are completely different anyway. It sounds like it'll be a really cool thing. Your publisher should also be able to tell whether it'll work or not because they understand making stuff specific for certain audiences. So they might be able to give you some feedback on that. But do what feels best to you at the end of the day. It's your project and your satisfaction with what you've created is what's most important. I can't wait to read it!!
I think it's very possible for a book to appear stylized or whimsical without it appearing juvenile. As a great lover of fantasy I've seen a lot of beautiful, whimsical looking books that had whimsical writing style and whimsical drawings but I don't think it looked juvenile and I don't think the story is juvenile. You'll just have to figure out how to keep the fantasy element in you story but also keep the maturity level.
He's done Minecraft pretty much every day for years and he deserved a break to explore something new before going back to it so give him the time he needs and be grateful
Hey m8, you probably understand this already, and I’m a bit late, but he/she should be able to decide how they want to structurally configure their sentence with misspelled words because of modern-day culture configurations, have a great night Edit: I mean no offense, I just wanted to Inform ;)
I would suggest changing the title or illustrations rather than the text itself because I feel like the actual text is at the end of the day, most important. I want the text to be 100% what YOU want it to be.
personally, i think that if you really like what you have and you don’t wanna change it, then don’t. you have a vision and maybe your future publisher will see your vision when you propose the book to them. go with your heart first, you always have the chance to change it later. but i think you should try and propose YOUR vision first. and if that doesn’t work out then you can always have a plan B to change it. its been crazy seeing you grow stampy, i remember watching your minecraft lovely world videos when i was a kid and now you’re working on a novel!!
Believe it or not, I’m writing a book the same way you are (but I’m not gonna publish it until after school) Edit: I actually spent the whole day on one chapter...
Molly Leacy I have a world and story I’ve been worldbuilding for a while, but I’ve never had the chance to actually sit down and start writing - what with school and every other thing I do - so I applaud you for starting that first page and sticking with it!
With illustrations, using slightly darker shades (very slightly darker) and thinner outlines can make it look a bit more mature without having to re do them. When doing what you love, you shouldn't have to change anything. Don't feel the need to. But sometimes a few small touches such as what I suggested can actually feel more rewarding for you too when you see the finished product.
I am going to become 14 soon but honestly I’m still interested in your books. The main reason why I want to read it is because it seems like you are super passionate about the books. I think as long as you enjoy writing the book, whoever is reading it will have a good time too. (Or maybe I’m just too optimistic, who knows)
I think don't change the books!!!!! People grow older, and will learn more on the way, either through the books or through school which will make them be able to read the books. People won't read something that is too young for them. So it's better not to change anything. I'm 19 and a huge fan. Keep up the amazing work stamps
Stampy I’ve been watching you since I was a little kid, however I won’t lie I left, And as such I don’t really know what’s happened. What I’ve done is watch your old videos for nostalgia, and have been greatly lifted up. Let’s just say 2020 hasn’t started off great for me, but just like back in the day you’ve lifted up my spirits. I just want to say thank you for not only having made those but for sticking around.
@@marilynwalsh7232 i dont think they will listen. Remember, they are children so they dont know that he has responsibilities higher than just playing minecraft. Stampy knows to not listen to comments like this :)
Whenever you’re finished your books and your ready to return to RUclips and Squid is feeling better can you please do some sort of video together! I don’t care what you do, Minecraft, anything! I really miss you both💖 you don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to but please consider
When he said this 3:53 it made me think wow im nearly 15 and still watching Stampy, i considered growing up but then i was....like nah!!! People never grow out of the the things they truly love.
I know it’s probably a bit more complicated on a business front, but I’d just release what you had in mind for the series! I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love the style you’re going for!
Hey Stampy! It’s nice to see your doing well, I’ve been watching your videos for so many years and it’s great to see you’re still doing what you love no matter what. I can’t wait to read these books and to see how happy you’ll be once you’re done. As for the problem in the video I’d suggest maybe putting an authors note at the very beginning explaining what this book is about and what age range you think this book would be for, going off of what hard ships the characters face and how deep the feelings go into in this book. Or if it really comes down to it I think changing the art style would be the best thing if you have to (last resort kind of thing). In my opinion I think you should go with what you want to do and publish the book the way you’ve envisioned it to be. Sure there may be problems with the age range but you being happy with what you make is important. If you aren’t happy with the series that could affect how the books turn out and how you feel about your work. I appreciate everything you’re doing for us, much love and good luck to you! ♡
Stampy, I don't know if you play/record Minecraft anymore. Its okay if you don't, its pretty understandable. I, and many others would like you to atleast make a Halloween and Christmas episode. You most likely don't have as much cast as you used to, so We can help! I'm pretty good at acting and Voice acting, and Video gaming so, yeah! BROKSOL on XBOX for contact
As a mother and elementary educator, I know that 10,11,&12 year olds still appreciate illustrations! Let's face it, I do, too! Perhaps specify on the back cover that it's for middle grades? Btw, my kiddos love you and Sqaishy! And any appearance of Alyx is well loved as well☺
No matter how it turns out, I can't wait to read these books. Even if it is for a younger audience, I just really want to see what you've been putting so much hard work into.
Hey Stamps! I don't know if this will help, but here we go.! I am 12, and a bookworm. I have read all of the HP books, and am hopefully going to read them all again sometime soon.I read them at 9/10 I think, and that was a good age for me. I don't know much about the book-making process, but I think you should go with your gut feeling, go with an age you are comfortable branding the book as. Keep writing, hope it goes great and you find the answer you're looking for. Sorry if I rambled, lol. 😂
I wouldn’t water it down. Look up The WondLa Chronicles by Tony Diterlizzi. The full trilogy has over 100 full page illustrations which make it look like it’s for a much younger audience but the story itself gets quite dark at times and it’s one of the best series I’ve ever read
I'm 22 and a huge book love, I even run a blog for books, and I collect picture books so the idea of having a book that is not only a picture book but a more mature picture book sounds amazing!!! I think it's a wonderful idea.
Honestly none of us can really give any good solid advice if we don't know what the books are about or the plot or anything really. Just do what you believe in at the end of the day and if you're still really confused talk to someone who has written a book already, they might be able to give good advice.
But I love your videos. I used to watch every vide o. your a big part of my childhood and I love you for that. Hope you play some Minecraft soon. I would love to see another one just for ol d time sake.
I’m sorry to say this but I think you have to change the title and art style (as those aren’t as ingrained into the story as the writing). And I feel horrible saying this because that means someone other than you will have to change what they’re doing, but I think it’s the best way to deal with this
As a fellow writer, I know where you coming from, but I think you gotta go with your gut and have faith that you’ll find your audience, or they’ll find you 😊💙
Hi Stampy, I don't watch many of your videos anymore but I used to love you. No offense my interests have just changed but I can't wait for your book I hope I can get it but god damn Brexit will make it more expensive. Ps. Question for next episode, would you ever consider writing a book about your life story if this is a fictionial story?
@@mezer1082 I think you are being unnesacery as many people have stopped watching his videos due to age or interest and I think Stampy understands that and his intros still bring a smile to my face when I here them. If you are talking bout the brexit part then I mean no offense it's just that none of the ways it affects me are positive.
It's crazy how so much has changed, but also so much hasn't. Although Stampy is no longer the RUclipsr I watch the most anymore, he is still certainly the one I respect most and the one who I am thankful for doing RUclips the most. Keep it up. Hope the book goes well. I look forward to the release :)
I don't know about you but your book could be made for babies to read and I'll still read it. I think you should make the books the way you want it. As long as your happy with your work that's all it matters. Keep up the good work.

I was idly looking for a video and stopped dead in my tracks when i saw this Edit: WHY DID MY RECOMMENDED NOT TELL ME ABOUT THE SIX VIDEOS STAMPY UPLOADED?
So impressed with how you've been sticking to this and doing really well! When you think about it, there are certain books for adults that have artwork/illustrations in, for example some fantasy books, usually it would be the odd page of artwork here and there (and maps too!). Could the illustrations be inserted more like that, rather than in the middle of the text like in children's books? Check out Brandon Sanderon's The Rithmatist for example, which is actually for YA readers, the book has diagrams (admittedly important part of the story as the magic system is based around chalk drawings... ) and little illustrations throughout, the main diagrams are also on his website here: brandonsanderson.com/books/the-rithmatist/the-rithmatist/the-rithmatist-art-gallery/
I have been blown away by the amount of suggestions and support (and comments about my facial hair).
Thank you!

I’m sorry to say this but I think you have to change the title and art style (as those aren’t as ingrained into the story as the writing). And I feel horrible saying this because that means someone other than you will have to change what they’re doing, but I think it’s the best way to deal with this
I miss when you used to play minecraft I watched your minecraft videos when I was 8 years old 😢
YOU HAVE A BEARD!!!!!!!!!!
Don't water it down!!!! Keep it as it is. If anything just change the title or something
"I've almost finished the third book!"

As a fellow writer, I know where you coming from, but I think you gotta go with your gut and have faith that you’ll find your audience, or they’ll find you 😊💙
I agree. My friend is writing a book and from what I have seen helping her, she’s just doing what she enjoys :3
Just say nice things
@@mezer1082 I think you are being unnesacery as many people have stopped watching his videos due to age or interest and I think Stampy understands that and his intros still bring a smile to my face when I here them. If you are talking bout the brexit part then I mean no offense it's just that none of the ways it affects me are positive.
I think that you should keep it how it is
Oh this is nostalgic hearing this voice again.
I haven't watched in along time
Edit:I miss your videos so much!!!!
Same
Book Diary. I know you been working on a book
Stampy grew a beard... I haved watched for years...
Honestly, I think the difference in visuals and text would make it just more interesting

Please do a new lovely world series! Like so stampy can see!
Can we get a Minecraft video by chance please?
It's crazy how so much has changed, but also so much hasn't. Although Stampy is no longer the RUclipsr I watch the most anymore, he is still certainly the one I respect most and the one who I am thankful for doing RUclips the most. Keep it up. Hope the book goes well. I look forward to the release :)
When will you do your lovely world videos they were great
Cant wait to have u back stampy!!!!
Make a journey from u being a clerk to a youtuber
I don't know about you but your book could be made for babies to read and I'll still read it. I think you should make the books the way you want it. As long as your happy with your work that's all it matters. Keep up the good work.
I don't think babies can read anything.
I can’t wait for the book! I make books as well

I was idly looking for a video and stopped dead in my tracks when i saw this
Edit: WHY DID MY RECOMMENDED NOT TELL ME ABOUT THE SIX VIDEOS STAMPY UPLOADED?
Woah! Long time no see!
