    During American Venom, if you slashed Micah's eye and you just wait behind the crate instead of shooting at him then he and John just shout at each other. John shouts "Its a bit rich calling me Scarface isn't it?!" to which Micah replies "your buddy Arthur gave me this! I still won!" it's a nice little detail in the dialogue that shows how Arthur managed to at least give Micah something permanent to remember him by

      @@TheRealGamerArtificial I mean you can clearly see that Micah was struggling when he was fighting a sick Arthur who's TB was already gotten much worse (I think the last stage). So if he was struggling with dick Arthur who wasn't even able to fight properly then Micah would have been beaten up if it was normal strong Arthur with his normal health. Micah is potentially better with guns than Arthur and John, but strength and in hand-to-hand combat wise they both are stronger. And remember, in chapter 5 we saw that Micah's actually a fat guy and Arthur is bulky and has muscles and is like a bodybuilder. So I don't think so that Micah is beating Arthur in hand-to-hand combat.

    Honestly, a lot of us fans felt the "go back for the money" ending was "mislabeled" in a sense. Arthurs dying, he has no use for money anymore and he knows it. And as he goes back to camp, not once did he mutter a thing about money. He was focused on hunting Micah and Dutch down. Thats it. And depending how you look at it, Arthur going back and mowing down the pinkertons did more for distracting and helping John get away than the mountain shootout. Honestly, if they would've named that ending "get your revenge" instead of go back for the money, soooo many people would've picked it (also fits with Arthur breaking his "revenge is a fools game" narrative)
    Edit- Holy shit, that low honor "go back for the money" end cutscene was so good. How was it better than the high honor one?? 😮 "Kill him! Not Molly, not Ms.Grimshaw! Not even Colm. You let him damn us all, Dutch." ❄❄

    • @m4sterrr553
      @m4sterrr553 2 года назад +53

      “Get your revenge” sounds so much better and fitting tbf because it gives an actual reason to pick a different option other than helping John because there is no point going for the money. and like you said it would still be morally wrong for him because of how he viewed revenge as a bad thing in the game. Also it would show he only thinks about himself in his last moments before death which would be a true low honour option.

      Overall, money/low honour is only my third favourite but the whole, “not Molly, not Ms. grimshaw, not even colm…” line is without exaggeration one of the absolute best lines in the entire game. The way Roger delivers that line is so real and heartbreaking. Easily one of my favourite lines in the entire game/in any game.
      Edit: actually it’s probably my second favourite behind John/high honour. As much as I hate seeing Arthur stabbed to Death by Micah I can’t deny how much I love that ending, the line we mentioned plus the music when Dutch walks away in that ending before Micah kills Arthur is just incredible.

  • @beccazach
    @beccazach 2 года назад +234

    I feel so bad for Molly, she's a tragic character that people fail to try to understand. I'll explain her story and then explain the ending.
    Also, no matter where you shoot Micah in that final mission, he falls down and dies like that bc it's apparently a reference to a scene from a western.
    Molly was from high society in Ireland but immigrated to America with her family, a new and confusing place that clashed with her old way of life. She met Dutch who we know is charismatic but manipulative and likes to act like he's more important than he really is, which is probably why he got romantically involved with her bc she herself was a 'proper lady' and he made her feel special. She left her family to travel the country with Dutch and his gang, but she never contributed money bc she never wanted to rob or kill people and she never aspired to stoop that low. That made the other gang members always treat her as an outcast, which left her with Dutch as her only connection left in this unfamiliar country. But it seems like Dutch still had an attachment to Annabelle, his old love from a long time ago, and just used Molly as an unsuccessful substitute. In camp, we can see Dutch starting to flirt with and eye Mary-Beth (which Mary-Beth doesn't reciprocate) despite being in a relationship with Molly, bc Mary-Beth is young and is probably around the same age as Annabelle was when she died. When Molly found out, Dutch started gaslighting her and giving her the cold shoulder, isolating Molly and driving her insane. Molly started to drink a lot and in chapter 5 after Arthur returns to the gang, no one seems to care that she's not in camp.
    When she returns, Uncle says he found her drinking in Saint Denis. Basically, Molly at one point had been approached by the Pinkertons in town and was questioned as to the whereabouts of the gang, but she remained loyal and never said anything. Then she got drunk, and with clouded judgment (and also probably feeling su*cidal at this point) she came up with a way to make Dutch mad and basically get one over on him for treating her like shit for no reason. Thus, she lied that she told the Pinkertons about the failed bank robbery in Saint Denis and Grimshaw shot her before they even got the chance to properly talk to her- which is why during some camp interactions Arthur has doubts that Molly was even telling the truth bc she seemed very drunk at that moment.

    • @beccazach
      @beccazach 2 года назад +14

      @@Megasuperq Sean's not completely innocent. He constantly made fun of her for her upper-class upbringing that she had no control over. and I don't think she felt at all comfortable helping out a camp of murderers and thieves, she was only there bc of Dutch and his manipulations. I won't deny that she viewed the gang as being beneath her, but I get why she wouldn't try to stoop to their level bc most of society would also see them as less-than.

    • @beccazach
      @beccazach 2 года назад +11

      @@Megasuperq Your logic obviously makes sense, but in this situation, Dutch took advantage of her insecurity bc he knew she'd be the type of person who'd fall for his lies despite her not being a thief or killer like the rest of them. Just like he knew the type of people to manipulate into joining his gang in the first place, like Arthur and John when they were young and had nowhere else to go. Again, it was a combination of molly's own want to live a life resembling her upper-class life in Ireland (being an Irish immigrant in America she would never reach that same status) and then meeting Dutch. He presented himself as a person of power running his own group at a time when she felt insecure, and she was immediately attracted to the leadership position he had and the way he treated her like she was important, bc no one else in America did. She fell in love with Dutch, but it doesn't make her a bad person for not agreeing with the gang's lifestyle.

    • @beccazach
      @beccazach 2 года назад +3

      @@Megasuperq it's clear that molly was very drunk and felt suicidal when she said she told the Pinkertons, and even Arthur expressed doubts that she was telling the truth. so I believe she was lying and never actually said anything, just like Agent Milton said. my guess is that it really was only Micah who was the rat, or there truly was no rat at all. Dutch/the gang was getting so sloppy that basically all their enemies (the Pinkertons AND O'Driscolls) kept finding them easily and Micah started the whole "there's a rat" thing after Molly's death to make Dutch more paranoid and easy to manipulate.

    since you finished the game, one thing many of us did to "cope" with arthur dying, was to replay the game and STOP somewhere between the end of chapter 2 or before sean dies in chapter 3(depending on which camp u like more). this point in the game was where the camp felt its happiest and most full with all the camp members there; plus, arthur wasnt sick. we just stopped playing the story there and let that be our end of the game. may be dumb/silly but people were seriously that attached to arthur(including me). ended up just doing hoursss riding around the map, killing gang camps that keep spawning, camping, fishing, hunting for trapper pelts/outfits, bounty hunting, doing side quests, doing treasure hunts, finding all the rock carvings, discovering all the animals we can for compendium, and just enjoying arthur's character(and hearing him sing lol).

    13:17 The only reason i can imagine why Molly said she talked, was because she wanted to die through his hand.
    Maybe she saw her life in ruins, felt lost and betrayed by Dutch.
    Her condition during her last scene showed that she still loved him, otherwise a person wouldn't be so emotional. Dutch broke her heart, so she felt already dead inside. He should just end it, or something like that.

      You see, Micah is a rat bastard that does what has to be done in order for him to get ahead and survive. So naturally, when things go south with the gang, he does what any self-respecting bastard would: he ups his bastardry game! Meanwhile, the honorable Arthur, who is facing a certain death no matter what happens, suddenly discovers the concept of personal integrity. To Micah, that is unthinkable and should result in an immediate and embarrassing demise, but Arthur somehow keeps going, manages to help others and somehow refuses to sink into despair and die!
      This plants a seed in Micah's head. His "canis canem edit" world doesn't work that way. That's uncomfortable and scary. In fact, in Micah's mind it probably verges on the supernatural.
      And then it all comes to the final fight. That's where the seed blossoms into the big, glorious WHAT THE FUCKBLOSSOM. Arthur, exhausted, beaten, wounded and disease-ridden, refuses to go down. Objectively, Micah should be able to level him with one punch, crush his skull with his heel and spit on his corpse. But he just wouldn't quit! The guy who defied Micah's very principles of reality for the last couple months just keeps swinging no matter how hard you hit him. That is beyond Micah's understanding. That SCARES him. That makes him feel like he's going crazy.
      So when Arthur finally does fall, Micah can't bring himself to shoot him because he is legitimately afraid. Arthur defied all of his expectations. So what happens if he goes and defies a bullet to the head? Sure, it's irrational, but at this point in Micah's mind it just about verges on possible. Fuck this guy, he says to himself. @Sienna Maria , your question regarding Molly O' Shea and why she claimed to betraying Dutch while in fact she didn't. I think at the time she said this she was drunk and very heartbroken. You see Molly is a bit of a tragic story on how she was madly in love with Dutch but no matter what she did, she couldn't get his attention. So pleading guilty to betrayel was just her way of trying to get Dutch's attention. Only before she could explain that it was only for attention, she unfortunately gets shot by Miss Grimshaw, who thought that she realy did betray the gang. Offcourse this was a bit of a surprise to everybody in camp. Nobody (including Molly herself) problably expected Miss Grimshaw to shoot her dead.
    However Miss Grimshaw can't realy be blamed here either, as she was just following the camp's rules for betrayel, where betrayel is punishable by death. I do feel however that Miss Grimshaw could have used a little more dissernment and restraint and a little more patience, then she could have quickly come to the conclusion that Molly was drunk and very emotional and just desperate for Dutch's attention. Unfortunately Molly didn't realy think her plan through, and sadly it cost her her life.

    I always go back for the money with high honor.
    Why?
    1. I prefer Arthur will die from a stab wound in the gut than from injuries from a fist fight, it looks more realistic.
    2. Slashing Micah's eye is satisfying.
    3. Pushing back the pinkertons and Micah and Dutch is way more helpful for John than going 100 meters with him and than leaving him.
    4. Arthur had a chance to live. I don't expect modern gamers to be smart or educated, but TB doesn't have 100% mortality rate. Without treatment it has like 50%. So if Arthur could take the money he might use it to go for warm and dry place, like the doctor said, and maybe heal. Even if it eventually wouldn't work, Arthur could give the rest of the money to John or anyone who needed it, or at least deny it from Micah and Dutch.
    5. It makes more sense. Arthur killed all the pinkertons before entering a fight with Micah, who was in the way for the money as well. But if Arthur goes with John, Micah would just pop up like a magician from the mountain top during the fight with the pinkertons (which didn't realy over).
    6. Arthur looks much stronger in this scenarion until he got stabbed than if he help John.
    I think they should have remove the choice and make Arthur go back to cover John, but not before the heartbreaking dialoge they had on the cliff.

    I found the end of Arthur's story very unsatisfying, actually. I mean, he failed to defeat ANY of the game's primary antagonists. Milton was killed by Abigail, Arthur was about to get killed BY him. Of course Micah gets to kill Arthur, Arthur doesn't get to kill him either. I had thought he might drag them both over the cliff, and both would die together. Then there's Dutch. We know Dutch makes an appearance in the first game, which means he needs to survive this one. However, to defeat Dutch, he needed Dutch to come back around and admit he had failed Arthur... to show some remorse, at least. Perhaps even kill Micah then and there. Of course, I don't know what the epilogue would have been in that case.
    Any way you slice it, Arthur failed to defeat ANY of the game's villains. Sure, he redeemed himself, but that's hollow succour considering he's killed off.

    • @ado3607
      @ado3607 10 месяцев назад +2

      Replying to this late. Arthur was the reason John was able to get away and live a life with his family. Even in the dishonorable endings, he distracts dutch, micah, and the pinkertons. Yeah he didn't defeat any antagonists, but that's not really the point of the game. Red Dead Redemption is representing the end of the wild west and redemption from your past sins. While many may say that he did more wrong then right, I always felt Arthur was not necessarily trying to redeem himself, but trying to save and redeem others. We see this with saving John and his family, but there was also other moments too like helping the native americans, edith downes, etc... (SPOILERS FOR RDR1) Eventually, in RDR1, John tries to make up for his past sins in order for his family to live on. He accomplishes this too. When you look at it in this perspective, you can see that he did win against dutch and micah. They died without any meaning, while both John and Arthurs deaths represented something greater.

    Imo, the bad ending when you help john is the best ending. Its such a fucking gut punch.

    That first one was actually pretty great if that's how you played the game. Live a lone wolf life die the lone wolf life.

    Just imagine
    Chasing a outlaw who is running away with an army
    But soon he stops
    Turns arounds
    And starts heading in your way screaming "you're all dead"
    That's where you know
    It's the end

    I saved John with low honor on my first playthrough. I paid a heavy price for that.
