"Ain't No Sunshine " brought a smile to my face. I want that uke!
My Caramel CB 203L arrived a week ago - 6 days from China to my house. It is AWESOME both sound and quality. Only briefly tried the electrics but that sounds great.
Incredible playing! This uke is heavenly! I came to find some reviews before buying and you have me sold! Thank you!
Thank you... I hope you love your uke
holy smokes!!!... im really glad you did this review. the sound just sold me , both plugged and unplugged. I've been searching for this elusive crisp/scouped vintage Kamaka Baritone sound I once played. Thank you!
My pleasure Micah, I'm glad you found it useful... this is still my favorite uke out of the bunch. Thank you for the feedback.
Beautiful playing. I ordered mine last evening. Thanks so much!
I have 4 of them for my bedroom, living room and office and bought one for my buddy because this axe sounds amazing! And it's easy to travel with.
I've always heard good things about these ukes, and now I think this is going to be my next baritone purchase! Rock on!
Awesome Jennifer... the new version is even better than the one I reviewed here as it has an adjustable truss rod. I hope you love it... thanks for watching!
I am considering this ukulele and I’m glad I came across two reviews. It sounds and looks great for the price. I own a couple of soprano ukulele and after replacing the tuners on a friends Mahalo baritone and having a play on it I just had to get one . Absolutely love the tone and depth of sound . Great honest review and having a built in tuner / pick up is handy .
christastic100 thank you for your feedback! Happy playing!
Thanks so much for your review on the Caramel CB 103 Baritone I've been searching for some time now for a Baritone uku after your review I will look no more Thank you Stephanie
You're quite welcome, hope you enjoy your Uke, send me a message if you have a question, and thanks for watching! :)
Nice review. I have one on order from Amazon, and seeing all these super positive reviews is only making the wait Harder. I also ordered the acoustic/electric model, I always seem to need something that can be amplified if I'm going to be using it in my usual settings. Ordered on 12/10, and they tell me the earliest arrival date I can expect is 1/4. This is probably due to the Christmas rush with a lot of them being ordered at the same time due to all the positive reviews. Mine wasn't even listed as shipped until the 18th. I am also a bass player that has taken to playing ukuleles. I must say you play very well. Thanks for this review, though it makes it even harder in the wait. Cheers!
Thank you Sean for your kind feedback. I’m sorry to hear your ship time is so long... I haven’t ordered any during the month of December, usually October timeframe was the latest in the year for me. Check back in and let us know how you like it... Also let me know if yours has the adjustable truss rod in the sound hole. Happy New Year!
Great to see a uke review from someone who knows how to play one. Thanks.
Thank you Gordon... it's been 2-1/2 years and this is still my favorite uke. Cheers!
Yes especially baritone,
After watching your review and hearing you play. Wow. What can I say!??!
So I ordered the Caramel CB 402 solid mahogany baritone ukelele. They have four models bundled with all sorts of goodies plus a nice gig back that opens all the way up. Nice.
It’s an electric acoustic. I’ll probably never play through an amp but who knows.
I’m so excited about it. It will be here on Friday!!
Too bad you aren’t doing a sponsored review. Thanks , Man.
Awesome Betti! Thanks for sharing… and please check back in, I’d love to know how the newer Caramel ukes are living up to my review.
You sound awesome Jeremy. Thank you so much for the review for I am sold on this brand because of all the good news I have heard about them. Looks like Amazon no longer handles the Zebra Wood baritone units.
Thanks so much-- you have an awesome style! I really appreciated that you plugged it in and played it -- not too many do that. Now, I can't make up my mine whether I would buy this one or the CB500. Such a dilemma. : )
which did you decide upon in the end?
Got to get one now, thanks for the review.
Great review. Sounds very nice. Going to order one of those for my pop. Thanks!
Your Pop will love you and the uke! :)
Amazing! I like your twist on ain't no sunshine. Brilliant! I hope your still enjoying your uke.
Thank you Pins & Needles... I still love and play this uke regularly. :)
Im so excited to get this. I fell off playing the ukulele because my concert uke was getting old and worn down and I havent really had the motivation to get another one, but this is selling me.
Awesome Nehway ... I hope you love it... welcome back to playing!
i agree with you, I've recently got into playing the uke and wish i had heard the Caramel line of ukes before purchasing all of mine, don't get me wrong I love my small collection, but could've save a lot of money and bought the whole Caramel line for what i paid for a few of mine lol, now I'm the proud and very happy owner of a Caramel tenor and soon to order a ubass and baratone to complete my collection, awesome video thank you
Thank you Zalo G... thanks for watching.
Hey Jeremy. Thankyou for the great review. May I text about 2 of these and ask your opinion of which one to get?
I have a brunswick baritone ukulele and thinking of getting another ukulele, this might be the one! I was going to ask about the tone but then it was the part of the video you played ain't no sunshine (well played btw) considering it's a video it's coming through the sound and tone is quite amazing. Thanks for your video.
Ben Spodris, thanks for watching and commenting. I don’t think you’ll regret this purchase. This is still my main uke for playing live with... and I still love it. Check back in if you decide to order one... let me know your thoughts on it. Cheers!
@@jeremy_rigged Have you tried the CB500? I was wondering if having the soundholes at the top instead would make a difference
Ben Spodris I have not tried a CB500 but I think they are quite beautiful, and from the reviews I’ve seen, they sound really nice, but a little more “classical” sounding with all nylon strings. Maybe I should buy one!
Ah ok that makes sense, I assume the strings in your video here are wound and nylon?@@jeremy_rigged
@@jeremy_rigged In any case thanks for your valuable advice
Thanks for the review. I have been looking to get a baritone ukulele with a pickup. I really like Kala but didn’t want to spend around $300 for it. I have 2 Kala tenors that are wonderful and my main ukuleles i use for jams and gigs. One with a pick up and a beauty with out. I saw this on amazon and was skeptical because of the low price. So read all the reviews and thought better check RUclips to actually hear it. Very impressed with the sound and what you had to say about it. I used to play guitar from an early age on but got to difficult to play with my aging fingers. Anyway I have ordered this and am happy to keep playing and use all my guitar chords stored in my brains memory bank so to speak. Great and fun challenge to go from playing the regular ukulele tuning to
Jean Anderson I hope you love it too. I've purchased several of these as gifts to friends and found the quality to be extremely consistent from order to order. Thank you for watching!
Thanks. That's good to know.
Mine arrived today. Very impressed with it so far. I did change the strings. Everyone of the pegs that holds the strings in the bridge broke. Lucky I had some on hand. So all set now.
Thanks man, I just ordered one. 👌
Thanks for watching Vince, you'll love it! I've bought several since this video as gifts for friends and they all lived up to the same quality standards.
jesus you slayed that uke
Thank you Brandon... I hope to be posting more involved slayings soon! Hit the subscribe button and you'll get notified of new uploads! Thanks for watching!
I love my CB-103. I've had mine about 18 months and play it everyday. I bought one of each of Caramel Zebra wood Ukes (6) even a sopranio. What was amazing to me was that the CB-103 is the easiest to play. I thought the longer stretch between frets would be a problem, but NO! It is just more room for my fingers. Love your playing. I've only been playing about 2 years so I'm just a strummer. It sounds really good re-entrant tuned like a uke, not a guitar.
Thanks Jackluis for your kind comments. Being a bass player I feel more at home on a baritone versus a soprano uke, even with my small fingers a soprano feels cramped. :) Do your other Caramel ukes perform as nicely as the CB-103 in sound and playability? Cheers!
I think my others sound pretty good too but the CB-103 is special. It is interesting that my other glossy ones sound different than the satin finished ones. My CC-100 concert is also pretty special.
"Out of the many you have, sadly, could have just bought this and been happy."
Sold....
Just ordered one from Amazon!
Awesome... I'm literally sitting here playing mine right now brother. I hope you love yours too!

Oct. 28...UPDATE
My Caramel CB 103 really is just that good!
I received the CB 103 "Kit" from Amazon which includes a gig bag and accessories. The gig bag is fine for a place to protect the Uke from scratches. BUT, it IS NOT a hard case and will do nothing to keep your Uke in one piece if someone sets on it.
The CB103 already had the strap buttons installed for the standard and included strap. Also, the battery's were installed for the tuner. The Tuner works very well.
The CB 103 needed only to be tuned up. The action and intonation was fine with NO BUZZING issues. I believe this instrument REALLY WAS well inspected, and tuned then de-tuned before shipping. When I pulled it out of the box, each string needed about a quarter turn to bring it into tune from it's deliberately relaxed position.
I returned a Kala that was shipped needing a lot of setup work before buying this CB103.
I would strongly recommend the Amazon kit Uke over purchasing the Uke alone.
The reviewer was spot on. The Caramel CB 103 is a excellent value!
@@guitardzan5641 Thanks soooo much for your confirmation. I love hearing other people agree that it’s a great value. Cheers my friend... happy playing.
@@jeremy_rigged
Your review of the Caramel CB 103 came along at the same time I was wondering what to do with the Kala KA-BE I had just received from Amazon
The KA-BE was buzzy as hell, did NOT include a wrench to adjust the truss rod, did NOT include battery's for the tuner, and required me to install the strap buttons.
Neither did the KA-BE include a gig bag or ANY accessories.
It was also TWICE the price of the Caramel CB 103....
Your video made my decision a no-brainer. THANK YOU!
Nice work.
you deserve that Uke, you play well!
Hi Jeremy, You have persuaded me to place an order, thank you for your review. Have you tried any other strings or tuning to GCEA? I would love to get your opinion, thanks.
I am very tempted to purchase another to tune to GCEA, but I haven't as of yet. I have seen other folks do this with no issues though. I've used Aquila Nylegut baritone strings on this uke and they sound beautiful... much warmer classical guitar sound versus the steel strings. This is the link to the "High G" version of baritone Nylgut strings if you wanted to tune traditional GCEA. www.amazon.com/Aquila-AQ-23-Baritone-Ukulele-Strings/dp/B00MXUIQMY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505748432&sr=8-1&keywords=aquila+nylgut+baritone+ukulele
Hi Jeremy. I wanted to let you know that I got my ukulele today. I have to say that your review of this ukulele is spot on! Like you said, the fit and finish is remarkable. I played it through my amp and it sounds very good. Thank you for doing such an excellent review :-) PS- What strings do you use ? Have you tried re-entrant tuning? Thanks, Henry
Thank you Henry, I'm glad it met your expectations! I use Aquila Nylgut strings for baritone ukulele. These have a wound D and G string. (link below) I have not tried re-entrant tuning on the baritone, although Aquila offers a set of strings just for re-entrant tuning on a baritone ukulele. I personally just like the sound of the lower D string. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AQBaritone--aquila-usa-baritone-ukulele-strings?mrkgcl=28&mrkgadid=3311211104&rkg_id=0&product_id=AQBaritone&campaigntype=shopping&campaign=aaShopping%20-%20Core%20-%20Guitars&adgroup=Guitars%20-%20Guitar%20Strings&placement=google&adpos=1o2&creative=226299461165&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIr7CPtunz3wIViorICh1NJwBwEAQYAiABEgK2Q_D_BwE
Thank you Jeremy. I will get a set of those strings.
If your new uke experiences slight fret buzz while plugged in and not so much acoustically, check out this video for a quick fix.

Fantastic!
Thank you!
thanks for the lovely review :) went out and got one myself after watching this and others.
mine has a bad string buzz tho, i think my neck is back bowed.
caramel's amazon listing for the cb103 says it has a truss rod embedded in the neck but i don't see one anywhere ... does yours have one? can u share where to find it?
Daniel, from what I can tell there is a truss rod embedded under the fretboard, however it's not "adjustable". Watch this video for a simple trick to handle fret buzz... it may help you out. ruclips.net/video/56cchC2_MWQ/видео.html Mine had a buzz on the G string and this tip fixed it. I'm sorry to hear you have an issue, please keep me posted.
got it, thanks for the tip! will give it a shot
Hi Jeremy, I'm going to buy this uke, I always wanted to pay guitar but my stubby little fingers couldn't hold the strings down! Can you advice me on the best book to get started with? i read music but only play piano.
To be honest... I completely learned to play ukulele using youtube tutorials and downloading and printing out a ukulele chord chart. The Ukulele Teacher ruclips.net/user/TheUkuleleTeacher is a great place to start, and download his free app for your phone... it's loaded with all kinds of good stuff.
Also simply downloading a free ukulele chord chart will allow you to go to websites like www.ultimate-guitar.com where you can download guitar charted music and transpose it to your ukulele chords referring to the chart. Here's a nice free chord chart that prints out beautifully. s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/43/8e/99/438e9944b81a01b62ab6037bcf255d4d.jpg
Best wishes with your new ukulele. If you have problems fretting the steel strings, you can switch them out for nylon and it will still sound fine but give you a softer feel and less tension to fret. I recommend Aquila Nylgut strings... be sure to buy baritone length. www.amazon.com/Aquila-21U-Baritone-Ukulele-Strings/dp/B00GXMNOXY
I was a little worried about the action but after watching your video I just purchased the last one on Amazon.ca , so glad I did , sounds great , nice playing mate, can you please tell me how wide the soundhole is because I want to know if I can install an x-brace magnet inside so it can hold my tonewood amp in place just like I have on my Taylor guitar.( by the looks of it , I believe the opening is smaller than 3 7/8”)
tony mediati the sound hole is 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter. I bet this uke will sound great with a tonewood amp.
Jeremy-Rigged oooooh going to be a tight fit but I think I can manage to fit it in very carefully, thanks Jeremy, I’m sure it’s going to be so awesome with the tonewood amp because it’s sounds already so great unplugged and on the amp, by the way also a bass player.......cheers mate ( thank you)
@@tonymediati8274 Your comment was four years ago but I'm curious - did the Tonewood amp fit in the sound hole?
I noticed you told one person it has a truss rod but it is not adjustable. What do you mean by that? All truss rods I have seen are adjustable but evidently there is more to the story with the Caramel truss rod. Can you explain please? Thank you.
Newer releases of the Caramel CB103 have fully adjustable truss rods (accessible through the sound hole) while older earlier models such as mine only have an embedded non-adjustable neck rod for neck reinforcement (sometimes referred to as a tone bar or generically a truss rod). Some of by six string basses have as many as two truss rods paralleled by carbon fiber neck reinforcement rods. (Similar to ones found here... www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Truss_Rods/Carbon_fiber/Carbon_Fiber_Neck_Rods.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4prnuvvV2wIVVR2BCh2tCwxQEAQYASABEgI5OPD_BwE)
Thanks a million for the explanation Jeremy. I have heard of the non adjustable tone bars for stability. I was looking at the baritones Caramel is offering now and thought you were referring to those units. I am glad they do have an adjustable truss rod because you just never know if you will need it. I am also learning bass and have a short scale Fender Squire Jaguar that I really like and have replaced the electronics with upgraded Fender pots and knobs and put in Dimarzio pickups which really have a good sound. Take care and keep posting.
What type of small amp inexpensive small amp would I buy for this Caramel CB103 Baritone Ukulele??
I recorded this video playing through a single KRK Rokit 5, five inch studio monitor... self powered studio monitors give a super clean and accurate sound of the instruments played through them and are great for playing at home. For something that is still compact yet more robust for travel, the Behringer Ultracoustic AT108 - 15-watt 8" Acoustic Instrument Amp is a great choice without totally breaking the bank. (Although sadly it costs more than the uke itself...) www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT108
ty :)
its been 5 years since your review, how did the Ukulele hold up over time?
Thanks for asking! I was actually going to do an update soon. It’s still my favorite ukulele, hasn’t changed a bit in overall tone or playability, but has developed a little rattle on the E string that can be heard acoustically when playing fingered style, but not on the electric pickup… haven’t dove into diagnosing it as it’s so subtle I feel I’m the only one who notices it. A friend of mine recently bought the latest CB103 model with the adjustable truss rod… and it played beautifully as well. (I was considering buying another one, just to have another one. 😄) Stay tuned and I’ll post an update. Thank you for checking back in!
I love my Baritone Uke. It’s just more fun to play to me. Play better on it than 6 strings. I love yours too. Beautiful and Awesome sound. How can I get more people to my channel in your opinion? I’m about to post more. I came off FB 2 yrs ago. Don’t want to do that. Came off Instagram. I kinda like the youtube since it’s music. I’m a singer songwriter.
Thank you for doing this review. I am hoping that you could tell me the nut width of this ukulele? Thank you.
Henry VanBreda the nut width is 1-1/2 inches.
@@jeremy_rigged Thank you Jeremy. I will order one :-)
@@jeremy_rigged Thank you for the information. I just ordered one :-)
Henry VanBreda you're most welcomed... I hope you love it!
@@jeremy_rigged I will let you know.
Can u share the music u played?
Engy Tawadros ... thanks for the inquiry. The first song is "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard from the movie "Once". (Video linked below) The second song is just a simple ukulele adaptation of Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine". ruclips.net/video/yzQ9VrnNQLQ/видео.html
I just got my Ukulele in the mail yesterday and I love it, I want to change the strings now. Can I put either classical guitar strings on it or maybe silk and steel strings??
lilnovember if you're going to go with a nylon classical string, I recommend actually buying the Aquila Nylgut Baritone Ukulele strings... your tone will be richer and sustain will be longer. For steel strings... any light gauge acoustic string will work fine. I'm so glad you love your uke!
Which type would give me the richer warm tone that I'm looking for?
I would go with the Aquila Nylgut strings over the steel strings. You have a choice of buying strings for a low GCEA tuning, or for the traditional tuning of DGBE (which I prefer personally...). www.stringsbymail.com/aquila-baritone-ukulele-strings-nylgut-dgbe-tuning-21u-4851.html?catargetid=120229430000044279&cadevice=m&gclid=CjwKCAiAlL_UBRBoEiwAXKgW57JLEB2YCLIUd72u6Tg2UGZnTOWe0g687bQZyxQFcnxre9CiESW_lxoCkggQAvD_BwE
Thank you for your advice, I ordered the Aquila Nylgut Baritone strings DGBE tuning :)
I got one, second hand and it came tuned like D G B E ... Can we tune it as the usual ukuleles G C E A? I am just affraid to try and brake some string.. TIA! ;) Nice video by the way! ;)
No need brother, it's the same chord shapes, just further down the scale. You can use a capo on the 5th fret to make it play identical to a GCEA uke and you have the versatility of a lower range when you need it.
Excuse my computer sometimes don’t play with who wanted to the name is butch sorry about that little mistake thanks again
No problem... I figured it out pretty quick that it was a typo. :) I hope you enjoy your new uke!
Is it a solid wood uke?
It is a zebra wood veneer... underlying wood is unknown to me and not mentioned on the Caramel website. (If I had to guess, my money would be on spruce.)
Great😍
I bought a caramel tenor uke, best $50 I ever spent.
Bass player here..tried to order this use...discontinued :(

Hello Jennifer, the first song is a Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová song called "Falling Slowly" and was featured in the Irish romantic musical drama "Once" from 2007. It's a really great film with fantastic music, if you haven't seen it... I highly recommend it. Glen and Markéta play the lead roles in the film as well.
