Honestly It's interesting how out of touch the daily wire is with entertainment that works. Meanwhile, Angel Studios is working on an anime series, knowing anime is at its height of popularity with Johnny Yong Bosch. What a contrast.
@ChristianAnimePodcast Speaking of that, will you be doing a video about Angel Studios Gabriel and the guardians in the future? Cause I would really look forward to that.
What are you talking about? Have you heard about "Lady Ballers" or "What is a woman?" documentary? Two BIG hits from the Daily Wire. Their objective isn't to make it big on Box Office or to appease a lot of people. They want to attract viewers who will subscribe to their platform and watch their daily shows, and these people don't watch anime daily, ok? Their objective is to create controversy, make a shit ton of money and in the mean time, create a conservative movement among young Americans. Hate them all you want, they are still the biggest Conservative Media Company on Socials.
Velma wasn’t left wing. It was actually arguably a right wing strawmanning what they think left wingers do and say. Thd creator of the show is not left wing or even liberal
The thing is, when people say they are tired of lazy political jokes being forced into their TV, they genuinely mean it. They don’t want the same lazy, cringe comedy but from the other side. South Park and King of the Hill are good, adult cartoons that would often cover political themes, but they done this in a way that made the comedy feel genuine whereas this stuff just comes across as cringe.
im a very strong conservative i like the daily wire, but omg this show was such a disappointment so many corny jokes and stereotypes, this feels like what a liberal would envision a conservative tv show to be, and they're actually right for once
As a non conservative im curious. Would you agree that king of the hill is much better? If i recall there's an episode where he teaches shop. After he's not allowed to teach the students still want to learn and seek him out. Its more endearing than screw you youngins lol. In my opinion atleast.
I hate adult comedy cartoons, if it’s for adults, make it a worthwhile story that can ONLY be told with mature thymes (attack on titan for example) not just crude jokes (idk if this show is crude) also a story should stand on it’s feet without being labeled as “Christian” or “conservative”.
I think the issue with adult comedy is the comedy elements are never adult on the merit of being so complex that they would go over kids' head (in which case, I doubt only adults could understand it), but rather that they're about topics we WANT to go over our kids heads and don't teach them about till they're older. And 99% of that sort of stuff is either not funny or not what I want to amuse myself with but rather are things that I wish I could still have that childlike innocence about (yet I need to be able to recognize it to be a functional adult and to not accidentally propagate it).
I hate this for the same reason I hate Velma and Hazbin Hotel. Too much crass content because they don't know how to be funny. With an extra dose of "on the nose" jokes for their agendas. BORING!!!!
And I say this as a conservative who technically agrees with their "points." But at this point, it's just like... Too little too late? You waited til all of this was the opposite of edgy? And added no creativity? AND decided to throw in an extra dose of "btw we don't like women anymore lol." I'm so done
It tries too hard and there's no good jokes. Like you said it felt like the exact opposite to liberal virtue signaling BS but from the other side. If I could tell them anything I would say "Just try to be funny, forget about this or that agenda and focus on the jokes. Forget about trying to teach the viewers or trying to mock for the sake of mocking and focus on just making comedy. Imagine politics don't exist."
So, I watched a full episode on an "free" anime site (oh, the irony), at least the first episode. I chuckled some but it's painfully eyerolling with the stuff with the daughter (I have never met a woman that's interested in woodshop to THAT degree) and her mother. I get what they're doing with the dad but he's so unbearably annoying, the son is literally what boomers think earning steamers are. I think I might want to wash this off with a bit of King of the Hill viewing. Ugh.
I thought the daughter was the best part. That's a really unique concept, an 8 year old girl who idolizes her woodshop dad. I think one of my favorite jokes was when the Mom says something about divorcing him and how she's going to take the son and he says "deal, as long as I get Genie."
Fair enough. It's not high art or anything. Just content. I like how DW at least tries new things. Like Matt Walsh's judge show is pretty funny, I laughed and was at least amused and entertained by the premiere episode. This- if it has an audience that's willing to pay for DW to watch it, good luck to them. Thats definitely not me but maybe someone. If it fails, oh well, at least hopefully they learn then try something else. With this, I just wish they would have tried to go a bit more creative with the look and style. It has a cheap look I'm not crazy about. Also for my tastes WAY too many characters to focus on, like they wanted to flex and cram in as many "names" as they could. It makes the trailer confusing to me. No clue who is who really. If any character (including the main) is actually unique or interesting I would never know as they just keep introducing more. I wish they'd have picked say 4 characters and focused only on them to create interest. Eh, anyway. This the last I'll ever expend this much effort on this show probably.
As a millennial DW listener, I shake my head whenever someone puts up this trailer. It is indeed cringe. Like... Discount Family Guy for Republicans or something, and it's not even funny. I never did get into Western animated sitcoms. Everything just looks so ugly. Sure, a few clips on YT, I could get behind. But never full eps. I'm hoping they do good with the Pendragon Cycle, though. Granted I imagine its success would be more because it's built around an actual series of books with actual story, as you said. This, on the other hand, is indeed cringe.
