      Harvoni or Mayvret will help. I used Harvoni and also had a liver transplant. Been happy and healthy for 3 years!

    Hepatitis C is one of the most deadliest viruses and even has surpassed viruses such as AIDS since it is a silent disease. It is an interesting disease to study about.

    Question. Why is only fibrascan used to examine the liver and not ultrasound?

    • @rubato93
      @rubato93 3 года назад +1

      Fibroscan (delivering vibration controlled transient elastography) is a specialized ultrasound that is specifically used to measure fibrosis (scarring) and steatosis (fatty change). It is the non-invasive test of choice in evaluating liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. (gold standard is liver biopsy but that is invasive). The risk of cirrhosis (irreversible liver scarring) is 15-30% within 20years in those with chronic HCV (WHO); it is important to know this when deciding treatment and future management. Our hepatology clinic doesn't have a Fibroscan (since it costs $150K!) so we use a FibroSURE test instead (blood test to detect cirrhosis).

      @@rubato93 I'm an actual patient not a student. I had an ultrasound, 2 yrs after being cured , because I went in for a hernia evaluation. Doc said, it's been 2 yrs, let's check your liver with an Ultradound. Well, now, they said theres a mass on liver,. Which views the whole Liver. Not just a slice with the fibrascan. Which makes no sense. Nowz, they see a small mass. They could figure out what it is, so they wanted an MRI. And now it's MRI, they still don't know what it is. They want another MRI. It's crazy.
