    Thanks! One nice thing to know is that English Ivy helps filter airborne toxins. So, to get a bit better sleep, place this evergreen vine in your bedroom. Apparently Ivy can reduce the airborne mold in a room in just hours.

    Ivy is by far my favourite plant. There are so so many different types to chose from and they are all very beautiful. That "California" one looks amazing with these wide star-shaped leaves but I doubt I'll ever come across it in a store here in Europe. I agree, they are very sensitive to over-watering, which can be a bit tricky especially when autumn comes around and they suddenly need a lot less water than during the warmer months. Unfortunately they are also prone to spider mites when the humidity gets too low. I spray them with water during the dry periods and if they still get mites, I wash them off under the shower and spray the leaves with soft soap dissolved in water. It's worked pretty well so far. Btw the ivy plants with variegated leaves need more light than the green ones. The brighter the leaves, the more light they need.

    I was hoping you’d mention crispy leaves. I got one of these at my local nursery, I have been doing everything as indicated, medium indirect light, moist soil, (I have it in a terracotta pot but I do have overwatering tendencies although I’m getting better) I don’t let it dry out completely and I keep a close eye on it using my moisture meter, but some leaves just look…crispy. I don’t know how to describe it. They’re not wilting, they’re not brown, just crispy and some even bumpy. Is this normal? Mine looks just like yours, all green no variegation, but the nursery had it labeled as “hedera helix ivy”. I’d like know if the crispiness is something I’m doing

    The video popped up when I was searching for ways to kill off invasive English Ivy in my backyard. Just watched a video where the most suggested thing to get rid of tons of ivy is glyphosate that would need to be sprayed continuously for months to kill apparently, potentially giving me cancer. It's odd how I am trying to kill that stuff off and in other parts of the country these are treasured houseplants :)

    I'm so excited to see a video with an ivy plant that looks just like mine! Thank you for explaining the bleached leaves. 🍃 I've recently noticed whitening on the top leaves of my ivy. After watching your video, I've learned that it's getting too much direct afternoon sun. I don't have a choice when it comes to windows, (only have front windows in my apartment) but I can move her further away. Also, would love to know what you think of grow lights and are they beneficial or needed for ivy plants such as ours. PS You give me confidence that I can bring more beautiful plants into my home, and keep them thriving with your help. Thank you ❤

      Aww yay! twin ivies 🤗💚 I am so happy to help; thank you for watching! Grow lights can be beneficials for these, not but particularly necessary since they do well with indirect light. By moving it a bit further from the window, the ivy should be able to still capture enough energy from afternoon sun to grow happily.

    I have two ivy plants. Had them about a year now. They have probably doubled in size if not more . My only issue is that it's more length than fullness like yours. I got an ivy at the grocery store. The grocery store let it dry out so the soil was shriveled and bounced around in the pot! It has about 8 vines that are not completely dry. Still flexible with dry leaves. I removed most the dry leaves. Now there's one small live leaf. I bought it near death. Any tips for bringing it back?

      Try adding a top layer of peat moss to help with moisture retention when you water it.

      It's up to you. Feed the soil with fertilizer, be sure it is receiving good light exposure, and perhaps the leaves will grow back.

    Ivy’s are such spider mite magnets, how do you deal with them?

    • @greenmable475
      @greenmable475  4 года назад

      Ya know, I never had issues with spider mites until we moved to this house. I try to deep clean more often and increase the humidity when I notice them. I do check the ivies most frequently.

      Sprinkle true cinnamon on the top of the dirt, and if you do end up with spider mites, spray down the plant with water that had a couple cloves of garlic crushed into it. Works like a charm for me (especially when it comes to my sunflowers. Spider mites are a plague on them)

    When propagating is it possible for the plant to survive if I don’t remove it from the water to put it in soil. but, keep changing the water?

    • @greenmable475
      @greenmable475  3 года назад +2

      There are plants whose roots can live in water: the pothos, spathiphyllum, philodendrons. I would imagine such is possible with the ivy. You may have to change it more frequently. When I propagated my ivy in water I nearly could not keep up with how often the water need to be changed; it was like every other day.

      Hey, I have some ivy and I've had it in water for over a month and it's been thriving! It seems to be okay. You could always try LECA + water too if you aren't having luck just growing in water

    Hi. I currently have an ivy plant in my bedroom. I keep it by my window (she gets light, but not directly). Now, that's my problem, my mother watered the ivy too much and since I found out (that was 2 weeks ago) I didn’t watered her at all. I used to do it a little every 1 and a half / 2 weeks.
    It has some dry leaves that still fall and the stems seem quite weak, they are no longer stiff, but not all the plant is like that, it also has healthy and very green leaves. Do you think it will recover? What do you think I could do to her?Thank you very much for all the information, you are gorgeous❤

      Yes. I think it is possible to recover. Ivy plants are forgiving when you act quickly. 💚

      @@greenmable475 Hey!I think you're right. I also think it was because of my conditioned air too, she was somewhere near it so i think it was to cold for her. I changed her place on my balcony(i have my balcony inside so she gets fresh air everyday,and sun). She still has sone healty(at least they seem to be healty) leavs and i removed all the dead ones.
      Thank you so much for replying ❤️

      Did your ivy ever recover? Because I had the same exact think happen. I watered infrequently and then suddenly I saw some crunchy leaves so I assumed she was thirsty and I watered a little too much and she was QUICK to get root rot. I was able to save some of it, but I killed 2 ivy plants and the parts I "saved" don't look great, just okay

    • @greenmable475
      @greenmable475  3 года назад +1

      Hi Thanks for watching. You can clip a portion of the ends and place them in water. Once they grow roots you can plant them in soil into a pot. 💚

    I once had an ivy that i used to water every other day, kept it low light and it was doing so well, amazing! It eventually died cause i forgot watering it. Fast fwd 2 yrs, got a new ivy, watered it the same and died in less than a week. Im confused! I got one this week and Ill try waiting until the soil is drier and hopefully it'll be ok, im still not understanding if it likes to be wait until dry or always be slightly moist.

      I am learning still with mine. I have one in a very shady humid. spot outdoor that I don't water as often as I should, but it's doing fine. Whereas indoor it would be crumbling for water. Strange lol.
