Don't fret about the one that you can't get out of the bottle. Just lay the bottle down, put a towel over it and gently hit with a hammer until the bottle breaks. I have done it and the roots are usually fine and then you can put it in a larger mouth bottle. Lots of luck and thanks for your vids.

The first Anthurium I was given, was in a tall, clear glass vase, with the brown pebbles (not sure which way you spell lyca). It did very well in water, and bloomed several times throughout the year. I also have a Peace Lily plant. The leaves are dark green, long and narrow.
I've been growing pothos in 2 of my aquariums. They're very reliable plant in sucking extra nutrients in aquarium water that can be dangerous to fishes.

I know this was from 2 years ago, and you might not get it, but I just found you on RUclips and am thoroughly enjoying learning from you. I now have a Peace Lily growing in water and am looking around for others house plants to put into water. I have a wall of windows facing North and a garden window facing East. Between those two places my plant seem to grow well. I usually give them some acclimation time in the East window and then repot them and move them to the North window. We've had some problems with Fungus Gnats in my Vermiculture container (where my worms are taking our kitchen scraps and turning them into castings). They usually like to go into my plants but liked what food I had for the worms better. I'm looking forward to having a few more plants in water and the other plants with the clay balls on top so the mother gnat can't reach the soil. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing all your knowledge with us!! I'm even going to try the painted jar with the tape on one side so I can look in and see how much water is still in there. Genius idea!! Also, so I don't have to clean out the green "slime" from my clear containers of the ones I've been trying to propagate by having them in water and getting their roots going. I was at the Mall picking up Jewelry that was being repaired and the owner gave me large clippings from her Beautiful Aglanema Silver Bay and Schefflera Umbrella Tree plants that I was admiring. She told me I could procreate them. I found your video and THANKS!!🌱🍃🌿💚 UPDATE::: My Umbrella plant and my Chinese Evergreen (silver Bay) are doing AWESOME! They took about 2 mths to develop strong roots. I then decided to grow them in Leca and both plants are really Thriving! Thanks again for teaching me how it's done! 🍃🌱🌿💚

I always do this with my aloe vera plants. They grow massive roots in water. Obviously you can't keep aloes in water forever, but anytime I have one that is dying I bring it back to life by putting in water .

When I lived in Catalina , AZ I got a 4 inch schefflera plant as a housewarming gift. Well, after a while, it got a bunch of nats, so I put it outside by my front door on the windowsill. Anyway the wind knocked down, so I decided to just plant it into the ground near the housewall. It started to grow. I clipped off a couple of them and they rooted. I also planted them in the ground by my front door. They were doing really good, except during the summer the leaves burned and in the winter the leaves froze. It did grow the leaves back and it grew really tall. When we sold the house , a botanist bought the house. He took the plants out , including my jadeplants that I grew outside.
This is so amazing. We do have some of these plants but growing them only in soil and keep them away from full sunlight. I have not tried growing any in water but seeing your video, I definitely will do it. Thank you so much for sharing.

The plant in your glass jar you'll have to break it up to rejar it ! Thanks for sharing I'm obsessed with house plants and roses ! I found that propagating plants is more easily done by trimming the bottom end then dipping them in rooting hormone and then placing them in a pot of soil and jar over them. The plastic bottle or plastic container always rotted them. And one bouquet of rose flowers I actually just put rooting powder and made holes with a hard straw then put the plants in and out of 12 only one died. All remaining rose stems are rooted great and better looking with the full stem sprouting new leafs. After 4 years of trying I finally nailed rooting plants !!!!
re: algae growing in the clear jars-- I mostly keep aquatic plants and we often use liquid carbon to combat algae. it shouldn't harm most plants-- in my experience it only negatively affects "primitive" plants like mosses, and some floating plants. a few drops of Seachem Excel in the water might combat your algae problem easily, though I'd of course start light in case you see any adverse effects.
Exactly. And also switching the water often can help. There is really no need to spray-paint clear jars, cause roots need indirect sunlight to grow healthy.

@@roselynmvm why would roots need direct sunlight when growing in water-when roots are able to grow beneath soil where they don’t get light? The sunlight comes into the plant from the top of the plant, not from the roots. Am I missing something??
@@Danielle-nz9tn yes, you’re missing something very important: we were talking about cuttings/young plants that are in process of growing for the first time, not full grown plants. But regardless, any plant if they’re in water INSTEAD of soil, then low light on roots is necessary.

Thank you! 😊 The anthurium, snake plant, pothos can all thrive in low light. The philodendron wend imbe is a good low light plant but I’m unsure how common it is in other parts of the world. Aglaonema can survive in low light but tends to lose it color on the leaves so bring it outdoors for sunshine once a week and it will keep its color 😊 hope this helps!

I don't get good sunlight either but I have my plants by my lamp, works fine. My plants doing are great . Try it out and try in water better than soil ( for any pothos) no special bulb either , whatever bulb u have will work

I told my plants orof their soil today, gently rinsed the roots and places in jars of just water, some with a few stones to help hold the plants better. Will they be ok? I mean do I need to cut all of their previous roots off first? I don't want to do some cuttings, but actually transfer the whole plant entirely. How would I do that?
Oh the umbrella plant 😅 I bought one and it wasn't doing too well even took it back to the center I got it from and they told me to let it dry out but it only got worse so I cut off two stems ( everything else looked like root rot) and they now have roots! I don't have high expectations but it's nice to know that it is still living

I do a lot of water propagation for rooting my cuttings and then transfer them to soil. I loved your tip of leaving unsprayed paint patch on the bottle. I will do same. Have u tried growing syngonium in water? Can we replace clay balls with cocopeat? Is it really possible to grow plants in water FOREVER ? What is the longest you have grown a single plant in water ? I also transfered plants in water, but they don't seem to grow or grow very slow. Here I don't find fertilizers for water or leca. What can I do, how can I help them?
If you transition it back into soil then you have to keep the soil very moist for 2-3 weeks to help the roots adapt back to soil. Sphagnum moss/peat would be the better medium for the transition. Then you can start diminishing the water. Hope this makes sense.
How do you know which black basket pots to buy so they fit in your jars? Is it just through trial and error and experimenting with different sizes? For the algae, I always find that it grows much more quickly in tap water with all the minerals and nutrients that it contains. If you try rainwater or filtered water it might help reduce algae as well as reducing the sunlight that goes to the glass jar.

Great video just subscribed and these are also great plant ideas for patio ponds or inside Beta bowls or other air breathing fish or aquariums in general...I have a few growing in my aquariums now...less water changes and good water parameters consistently.

I have been caring for a plant that I had no clue of the name! I prayed that God guide me to an answer and here I am. He answered my prayer! The chinese evergreene is the plant. It looks a little different, but it has to be in that family! Thank you for sharing!
Pothos grows in my soft water fish tanks really well. I just prop them up at the top of the tank to propagate and they grow. They aren't picky about water at all, just make sure to get a node. They like fish poo.
We’ve been having issues with our basil so I’ll use your pot idea! We love Basil snd cool with it often so we were so upset this year when ours started looking bad.
What people commonly call "peace lily" is a Spathiphyllum, and not the plant you showed, which appears to be an Anthurium. I enjoyed this video, keep them coming!
I appreciate this list. I was, however, wondering if water fertilizers were used/needed on these water persist plants? And if so, is there a brand recommended. Some sites simply stated the necessity of an all-purpose water fertilizer, however, I heard no mention of this from the videos and all of these plants shown in the video appear to grow just fine without. Advice and clarity are needed. Help.
@Sean Quinones Hi! I just saw your question & thought I’d share my experience-( I didn’t make this video). I grow plants out of the tops of my aquariums . Most of my tanks are well-seasoned, & the roots in the water column are being fertilized by both fish food and waste. For plants that might benefit from additional fertilizer, I use an aquarium plant fertilizer called “Easy Green”, & it comes from a store called “Aquarium Co-Op”. This is a great, well rounded liquid fertilizer that comes in a glass pump bottle ( w/ aquariums, it’s one pump per 10g of water).& would work just as well used in any glass container. Simply adjust the quantity to your needs. If you aren’t familiar with the company, let me assure you that they are fantastic all the way around. The price on this fertilizer is subjectively very fairly priced, they ship quickly & pack well. And I’ve really had a lot of healthy growth on my plants using Easy Green. Hope this helps!

Thank you! Just wash off the soil from the roots, or leave the roots in water until all the soil comes off so as not to stress the plant. Then you can just put it in water and the plant will start to grow water roots and adapt to living in a water environment. 😊

I add fish fertilizer (half strength) to the water to help with root growth. You can actually see the result in a week with the baby roots shooting out. What a joy!

I have a Red Siam Aglaeonema cutting in water, and for cuttings in soil and the one in water is actually thriving better than the ones in soil and, so I'll be transferring them, as well as my Peace Lily and Anthuriums in water!! I believe what you mean is that the Pothos is a good plant to remove Nitrates and Nitrites from your aquarium, not nutrients. 😉

Happy to give some feedback. Three days ago, my aglaonema showed little white knob on the root area, this morning there was a teensy weensy root tip.
My plant has 8 water roots now each about 3 cm long. So happy.

re: algae growing in the clear jars-- I mostly keep aquatic plants and we often use liquid carbon to combat algae. it shouldn't harm most plants-- in my experience it only negatively affects "primitive" plants like mosses, and some floating plants. a few drops of Seachem Excel in the water might combat your algae problem easily, though I'd of course start light in case you see any adverse effects.
Exactly. And also switching the water often can help. There is really no need to spray-paint clear jars, cause roots need indirect sunlight to grow healthy.

@@roselynmvm why would roots need direct sunlight when growing in water-when roots are able to grow beneath soil where they don’t get light? The sunlight comes into the plant from the top of the plant, not from the roots. Am I missing something??
@@Danielle-nz9tn yes, you’re missing something very important: we were talking about cuttings/young plants that are in process of growing for the first time, not full grown plants. But regardless, any plant if they’re in water INSTEAD of soil, then low light on roots is necessary.

Thank you! 😊 The anthurium, snake plant, pothos can all thrive in low light. The philodendron wend imbe is a good low light plant but I’m unsure how common it is in other parts of the world. Aglaonema can survive in low light but tends to lose it color on the leaves so bring it outdoors for sunshine once a week and it will keep its color 😊 hope this helps!

I don't get good sunlight either but I have my plants by my lamp, works fine. My plants doing are great . Try it out and try in water better than soil ( for any pothos) no special bulb either , whatever bulb u have will work

I told my plants orof their soil today, gently rinsed the roots and places in jars of just water, some with a few stones to help hold the plants better. Will they be ok? I mean do I need to cut all of their previous roots off first? I don't want to do some cuttings, but actually transfer the whole plant entirely. How would I do that?

there's an anti mosquitoes palletes called Abate. completely harmless to the plants

Oh the umbrella plant 😅 I bought one and it wasn't doing too well even took it back to the center I got it from and they told me to let it dry out but it only got worse so I cut off two stems ( everything else looked like root rot) and they now have roots! I don't have high expectations but it's nice to know that it is still living

ive just placed some pothos trimmings in one of my fish tanks a few days ago and I can see its already going roots!
devils ivy is really cool too let grow out of your aquarium, and i heard they even clean the water pretty efficiently
If you transition it back into soil then you have to keep the soil very moist for 2-3 weeks to help the roots adapt back to soil. Sphagnum moss/peat would be the better medium for the transition. Then you can start diminishing the water. Hope this makes sense.

How do you know which black basket pots to buy so they fit in your jars? Is it just through trial and error and experimenting with different sizes? For the algae, I always find that it grows much more quickly in tap water with all the minerals and nutrients that it contains. If you try rainwater or filtered water it might help reduce algae as well as reducing the sunlight that goes to the glass jar.
This is great, also saves money.

Having a wider surface area also allows more oxygen in the container.
Pothos grows in my soft water fish tanks really well. I just prop them up at the top of the tank to propagate and they grow. They aren't picky about water at all, just make sure to get a node. They like fish poo.
We’ve been having issues with our basil so I’ll use your pot idea! We love Basil snd cool with it often so we were so upset this year when ours started looking bad.

I appreciate this list. I was, however, wondering if water fertilizers were used/needed on these water persist plants? And if so, is there a brand recommended. Some sites simply stated the necessity of an all-purpose water fertilizer, however, I heard no mention of this from the videos and all of these plants shown in the video appear to grow just fine without.

@Sean Quinones Hi! I just saw your question & thought I’d share my experience-( I didn’t make this video). I grow plants out of the tops of my aquariums . Most of my tanks are well-seasoned, & the roots in the water column are being fertilized by both fish food and waste. For plants that might benefit from additional fertilizer, I use an aquarium plant fertilizer called “Easy Green”, & it comes from a store called “Aquarium Co-Op”. This is a great, well rounded liquid fertilizer that comes in a glass pump bottle ( w/ aquariums, it’s one pump per 10g of water).& would work just as well used in any glass container. Simply adjust the quantity to your needs. If you aren’t familiar with the company, let me assure you that they are fantastic all the way around. The price on this fertilizer is subjectively very fairly priced, they ship quickly & pack well. And I’ve really had a lot of healthy growth on my plants using Easy Green. Hope this helps!

Thank you! Just wash off the soil from the roots, or leave the roots in water until all the soil comes off so as not to stress the plant. Then you can just put it in water and the plant will start to grow water roots and adapt to living in a water environment. 😊

I add fish fertilizer (half strength) to the water to help with root growth. You can actually see the result in a week with the baby roots shooting out. What a joy!

Yes both of those growing mediums work well 😊 I sometimes prefer pumice as a growing medium to LECA.

If the roots float to the top is it bad for the plant? Even if I add more water they are long and manage their way up to the top..If so what are some ways to manage the roots so they can stay towards the bottom of the container?

Acrylic enamel paint I got from the hardware store. It’s not really permanent but it works good enough on glass 😊

I have a Red Siam Aglaeonema cutting in water, and for cuttings in soil and the one in water is actually thriving better than the ones in soil and, so I'll be transferring them, as well as my Peace Lily and Anthuriums in water!! I also grow Pothos in water!!❤🥰
