    I am not a fan of the self cleaning litter box bc there is always something extra to clean I wouldn't have had to clean in a regular litter box. I see cleaning that spatula and poop shoot are a must! Also the makers of these devices have yet to keep in mind an east coast apartment dweller. This thing is HUGE for a studio apartment! 1) Who has bathroom space for this contraption? 2) I'm sharing my toilet with my cat? 3) Those weird noises out of the blue would probably freak me out at first when I am home alone. I see this device great to use for the following: 1) Leaving kitty home for a long weekend when you don't want to pay for boarding. 2) A pregnant single woman who can't change a litter box. (Isn't there something about cat poop being toxic to pregnant women?) 3) The elderly or disabled. The price point isn't too terrible for one cat, but if you have multiple cats in a multi-floor home, that can get pricy!

    Thank you for the most detailed video I have seen yet! The first one I found was this super rude guy complaining about spending money because his PREGNANT WIFE couldn’t clean the box anymore. He never even showed what you do with the green ball (threw instructions away) thanks for solving that mystery.
    My best question is how many cats/cycles per day? And how often are you changing your cartridge? I’m trying to figure out if I’d need 2 genies for 4 cats. Also lots of people asked how much it affected your utilities like water/power. Because it looks like it uses like tons of water per cycle.

    • @mmmaria_k
      @mmmaria_k 4 года назад +1

      voodoomistris right!? I couldn’t even finish his video 🙄 I closed it when he said something along the lines of “because it’s bad for the baby I guess” like he didn’t believe that was true 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  4 года назад +2

      Thank you for your kind words!
      For 4 cats, and you set up it up to go off 4 times a day (which I have now) you would be changing the cartridge atleast once every 4-5 weeks. It is still very reasonable on cost.
      Utilities, honestly, you dont see a real difference. I am in Ontario and my electricity is up by, maybe, $4-$5 and water no difference at all.

    What happens when you loose power, does it have battery back up?, and also how does the waste get broken up to go through the waste tube, and has the waste tube ever clog, it seems pretty narrow to be pushing the cat pooh through, we have a cat that makes pretty big poops, I am just not clear on how all the poops can get through that small tube.

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  5 лет назад

      It just stops mid cycle. Once the power is back up, it will remain the cycle.

      It is actually a great big savings because a good litter costs anywhere from $35-45/bag last you about 2 litter boxes full. Granuals is around $25 box (will last you about 4 months) sani-solution about $20/each, 3 boxes will last you 4-6months.

      I would strongly suggest getting your furbaby tested for tritrichomonas foetus. It gives constant loose, smelly stools.
      Unfortunately, the catgenie will do the cycle but there might be left over practicals that will cause a very bad smell if it slips through the scooper and it goes through a dry cycle. :(

    How long does 1 cycle take? I am going to have 2 cats soon and now also looking for a catgenie.
    Does it use lots of water?
    So you programmed it to start only once or twice a day. But doesn't it start smelling than?
    My niece has one for 1 cat, and she programmed it to run after the cat's visit.
    I am worried if i'd program it that way, the machine is cleaning too many times, using a lot of water and time.
    And then of course, you will happen to have it that your cat needs to go right when the machine is cleaning... :-)
    How do you deal with that with your 4 cats?

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  5 лет назад +3

      Hilde, the cycle takes about 30 min. With 2 cats I would suggest for it to run 2 times a day. That would be more than enough. There is no smell, shocking I know, but it's TRUE! The setting for after each use is good only if you have 1 cat household.

    And what about the sand aggregates? How often you need to change it in a year? How many times above is the price of this sand in comparison with the normal one?

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  4 года назад +2

      The cost of a box of granuals is around $23. For 1 cat house hold you would need no more than 5 boxes a year so that is around $100/year. Regular litter you buy anywhere from $15-$50. With a 1 cat house hold you would need 1 bag to last you about 7-14 days, times that by 52 weeks in a year and you will see that it is a huge savings :)

    Thank you for your video. I am considering purchasing one of these. I spend in 6 mos. on litter what one of these would cost. The only thing I am concerned about is the hose going into the toilet. How does that affect the use of your toilet seat?

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  5 лет назад

      It is preferred to not have any pressure on the hose from sitting on the toilet seat but if there is only bathroom or the space is limited you can still go ahead and sit on the toilet seat. I would highly recommend ordering an extra rubber spout that hangs on the toilet in case if it cracks :)

    That looks amazing thank you so much for sharing this video and being very thorough about it. When I first saw the picture I was wondering how that worked it just looks like a small miniature toilet so I expected the cats to sit on it eventually but wondered how it flushed laugh out loud! Again thank you for this tutorial. I have three cats when my daughter visits with her one,.. and great smelling healthy home is a very important factor. Specially since we are asthmatic. I sheer and groom the cats myself and try to get there fur as close cut as possible. We don’t trust groomers because they caught a bad case of fleas so that was our first and last visit!! I use Cheristin on them and it’s FANTASTIC!! I do have a question for you because I am wondering does the cat genie come with its own litter or does this work for any type of litter? I ask because the minute that some litters get wet they clump it like clay.

      The cat genie comes with special granuals that are biodegradable. You can not use anything other then the granuals.

    I was interested in this, but my cat is the size of a small dog, so it looks too small. How could they make it so tiny? It looks like it would only work for kittens lol, also, my cat hates hooded litter boxes. The litter dust irritates his eyes.

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  5 лет назад +2

      Thank you for your comment! The size of the litter box is actually a very fair size. I have a main coon breeder and she has it and is very happy with it. The dome is an optional add on so you dont need to get it if your cat doesn't like it. From the granulas, there is 0 dust because they are made out of degradable plastic :)

    How many times do you have to flush the toilet during a cleaning cycle? What if no one is home to flush it? Will the toilet overflow?

    • @RoyalDevonRex
      @RoyalDevonRex  5 лет назад +1

      @Jena Jones the full process is 34 min. I would recommend just keep an eye on when your cats usually go (you would be surprised how "on schedule" they are :) mine goes of at around 11:30 am and the 2nd time it would be 11:30pm.

      A regular toilet that is not clogged will automatically flush/drain if it gets too high (if you pour a gallon of water down your toilet bowl you'll see what I mean) but if there was dirty water in there some will remain until you flush it yourself. So the most you'll come home to is dirty water.
