Volkman (and also Reinecke which you also shiftly mentioned) truly are wonderfull composers. Although not great masters like a Brahms or Beethoven, their music none the less truly are a delight to listen to. I own both Volkmann albums you mentioned, as well as some of his string quartets, and have not regretted it for one moment. Music worthy to be in any collection.

There is a biography of Volkmann from 1875 where the author ranks volkmann even above brahms, i dont say i agree, its just interesting to read how today forgotten composers were estimated in their times.

The complete set of "Concerti da camera", in 4 CDs, interpreted by Il Giardino Armonico, shown in this video, is a "must" for Vivaldi lovers. Not to be confused with the "Concertos for strings" (concertos for a small group of strings without soloists, comparable to "sinfonias") : there is also a complete set of them, in 4 CDS, by L'Archicembalo, another "must" !

@@goonbelly5841 Yes, of course, but also, more recently, Trevor Pinnock, Christopher Hogwood, Giuliano Carmignola, Rinaldo Alessandrini and Jean-Christophe Spinosi (among others) are outstanding interpreters of Vivaldi ... and not to forget the voices of Sara Mingardo and Romina Basso !

    Hi, Dave!
Thanks for you work. I'm sure I'm not the only one thrilled to discover new music, and better paths into the known one, day after day.
Please do speak about Zarzuela. I love Dona Francisquita, and would need to try Bohemios. Precisaly because I'm Spanish but hate all sort of nationalistic bullsh**, common in the local sources of information, I'm very ignorant about it, and I would love your help to discover the genre.
So far after your videos on Wagner and Verdi, and the listening of some of their works, I'm obsessed with opera while previously I've been used only to instrumental for a long time.
(thanks again, and in particular for the lists videos, the 'ideal' ones, repertoire,.. So helpful!)
    I'll keep on listening!

Dave, curious if you have any of the Arte Nova discs. Always wondered what happened to them. They always had an intersting catalogue: Gernsheim Symphonies, Enescu's Orchestral Suites Bruckner's Sixth, etc. The recordings and performances were top notch, but I hardly see any of their releases for sale anymore.
