I was 19 when Elvis died and now I’m 66, this song still gives me chills just like it did the first time I heard 47 years ago. Great tribute to a great artist!
Elvis died August 16, 1977 and not 2 or 3 days later this record (45rpm) was played on the radio...when I bought the 45 it had as the artist "anonymous" because he didn't want anyone to know who he was...he was honoring Elvis. It was a long time before we found out who was singing. Definitely not an impersonator at all...and he was a young man at the time.
Elvis was my friend i met him when i was 17 yrs old i won a radio show contest and the prize was a day with Elvis i will love and miss my buddy forever. i live on Elvis Presley Blvd. I walk past Graceland everyday without fail.
I remember this song,I remember when it first came out.It was then and is now a very nice tribute to Mr Presley.I lost my Father Nov 25th 1991 and for some reason I just could not cry .Now tonight almost 30 years later I listened to this song and it all came out.So Thank you Ronnie Job well done. And thank you for keeping Elvis,s memory alive.
yeah we had never heard of Ronnie McDowell before. seems this was out very, very soon after Elvis died iirc. I mean like days after he died. Am I right?
I was 16 years old on the 16th day of August, 1977 - for some reason I had stayed home instead of going to school. Then I heard the sad news on radio, that the most beautiful man I had admired the most, watched at the movies, and enjoyed immitating, had passed away. It was a shock. I remember this song clearly, as though it was only yesterday. I wish I had kept all my recordings of this and some of the Elvis Presley's songs - loved those early years when I was able to immitate and sound like Elvis. Funny thing was I never told anyone why I wore my shirts the way I did - wearing 2 different coloured shirts, with flared collar. No one knew why I talked, walked, and danced the way I did - I loved Elvis. I'm older now so I talk, walk, dance and dressup, and sound like myself. But I still love Elvis... Thanks R. McDowell for the best tribute to the King - Elvis A. Presley (Just months before Elvis passed, and by deed poll, I changed my name to Jesse).
I remember this performance when it aired in 1977 on the TV special. Everybody in house was crying when he sang this. This song as been on more CD's that I have burned and on more playlists than any song I have. It's a great tribute.
When I hear this song I feel soooo sad....Ronnie you're the best Elvis impersonator. Like you said, every sound and every note YOU got it perfect...I close my eyes and I know I'm listen to the King.
i remember this came out shortly after elvis died,,,,,,,and if you would have closed your eyes you would have sworn it was him,,,,,,,, i remember doing that at my front door, when i first heard it
The greatest singer of all time. I was 12 years old when Elvis past, Came home off the school bus and mom and some of our friends were in the house crying? I asked what the matter? Mom said Elvis died? So I started to cry to? Thanks Ronnie great song .
My Father played steel guitar in his band for two years in Nashville. My pops left the band because we had to move, and that was in 1974. My Dad, Floyd Ray Young was so happy for him and Roddy's song about Elvis. My dad was invited to his concerts, and Roddy always said, pointing his finger into the crowd at my Dad and said, "This was my favorite Steel guitar player I've ever played with... I love you Elvis, and I love you Dad, RIP to both....
I was working in a small market in 77 and the owners listened to only one radio station which had this song in heavy rotation. We employees used to tell each other "Goodbye Elvis, We'll miss you" when leaving work.
Got to see Ronnie in concert a little while after Elvis died..it was in a small auditorium in texas..back them we could really get close to an entertainer...me and my hubby stood in line back stage to get his autograph. ...I was the 4 in line..the 3 women before me were excited just like we all were ...they got his autograph and thanked him...when it was my turn I threw my arms around his neck a kissed him just as good as I could, and he kissed me back to...and soon as we came up for air he asked me my name and he gave me a great autograph...I was on cloud 9 as I walked back out front...my hubby was suppose to get one for my parents...but he was so mad at me that he forgot...it took him a week to get over it...we were a newly wed ..been married 49 years now...he was so afraid of loosing me I guess ( he didn't have anything to worry about )......I still have that autograph. ..I will never part with it....this is just my little walk down memory lane....

First time. I heard this song. So beautiful. Great tribute to the king. Elvis. Presley. King Of Rock and Roll forever and always. Never be another like. Elvis. Presley. So hard to say goodbye. I don't understand why he had to go. It is so sad. Been a long while now. But all the videos and songs bring back so many memories. Elvis you are so loved and missed by so many. Beautiful song. I first heard this song a few days after Elvis died. Ronnie you do sound like Elvis. The King may be gone but he still lives on in all his fans hearts. There will never be another artist like Elvis in the music industry.RIP Elvis you are sadly missed .
God Bless Ronnie, he loved Elvis so. Sounds as much like Elvis as any of the impersonators. I remember hearing this nf the radio a few days after Elvis died, and I thought it was Elvis, and was totally confused. I later found out it was Ronnie McDowell.
Me to. That song made me feel like Elvis wasn't gone. I will never forget where I was when I first heard it.I got a chance to meet Ronnie and tell him my story about how muvh that song meant to a 13 year old girl back in 1977. He was so sweet and kissed my hand. I took my album and 45 and he autographed them for me. It was a honor to meet him. He's really a lot of fun. Really down to earth. His whole family is. Looking forward to another concert. I took a lot of videos at the concert that I can go back and watch. I even posted some of them on my page and the fan club page. I got to meet Elvis's cousin Louise Smith. I took a lot of pictures. Really had a great time. Thanks for sharing.
I remember listening to this song on vinyl record that my late Dad had. It had “walking through Georgia in the rain” on the flip side. This would’ve been close to 40yrs ago. I know once I heard this song, it made me a fan of Elvis and Ronnie and one of the best memories of my Dad. My Dad couldn’t speak fluent English however he had an ear for great music. Thx Ronnie, Elvis and to my Dad ❤
Wasn't this from American Bandstand? I love this song. It made a big difference in my life after Elvis passed. Ronnie is now 70 and still singing this song.
Yes your right I met Ronnie and told him I had been listening to this song and he said that was American bandstand back when he was a young man, nice person got to eat beside him and he sang us a sing, great soul, love ya Ronnie.
@@kennybryant7199 Ronnie is an awesome man. I have met him several times. Love his concerts and how he treats his fans. Super nice to me. I love hearing his stories. He used to come down here to Mississippi alot but covid ruined that and the lady was did the concerts passed away. He is supposed to me in Mississippi this month but I doubt l will get to go. I always left his concerts smiling and laughing. He's a character. I'm so grateful for what he does for Elvis. Glad you have great memories of Ronnie.
I was 5 when Elvis died. It is one of my earliest childhood memories. I was outside playing and my mother called me inside to watch the news talking about his passing. We couldn't believe it. As a five year okd boy, Hound Dog was my favorite song. My mother went out and bought the 45 single of this song and we listened to it every now and then over the next few years. The biggest testament to any voice artist, and what separates them from the "impersonators" I think, is when they can take a song which the person in question never sang and still sound exactly like that person. That's what Ronnie did.

Thanks for ur kinds words tho, as always very much appreciated. Have a wonderful weekend, , Fred! Hugs & kisses to u! :):)
Not so sure I agree with you on "That is his voice". I mean, when you read the words to the song he wrote in 77 while driving along the interstate, it clearly says "And I'd stand in front of a mirror... Day and night And I'd listen to every one of his records And I'd repeat every word... And every note... ... till, somehow, I finally got it right... And I was determined... I'd wait for the day... That I could stand and sing in front of an audience And maybe someoned come up to ME and say... Yknow, you sound just like Elvis" so, I have to argue the point on he has always used "his own" voice. Like a Beatle once said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing".
Best tribute ever..cause Ronnie loves Elvis. And I love Elvis and Ronnie. He does sound so much like Elvis. But so much talent all on his own accord. Ronnie is my Elvis...i'll always believe this!!!
Elvis LIVES on through this man, Reincarnation does happen. JANIS JOPLIN died October 4, 1970 my SISTER was born April 30, 1971...my SISTER looked just like the all Grown Up Janis Joplin. Still beautiful in 2023....

Insane clown posse
I had forgotten about this song. What a wonderful tribute.
Always loved this song
he didn't impersonate him that is his voice;)
+Debbie Campbell He does sound like him so much.
Orion was not an impersonator either
Not so sure I agree with you on "That is his voice". I mean, when you read the words to the song he wrote in 77 while driving along the interstate, it clearly says "And I'd stand in front of a mirror...
Day and night
And I'd listen to every one of his records
And I'd repeat every word...
And every note...
... till, somehow, I finally got it right...
And I was determined...
I'd wait for the day...
That I could stand and sing in front of an audience
And maybe someoned come up to ME and say...
Yknow, you sound just like Elvis"
so, I have to argue the point on he has always used "his own" voice. Like a Beatle once said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing".
Pffft...not even close
Best tribute ever..cause Ronnie loves Elvis. And I love Elvis and Ronnie. He does sound so much like Elvis. But so much talent all on his own accord. Ronnie is my Elvis...i'll always believe this!!!
Oh this is beautiful. 🤩💖💕
Elvis LIVES on through this man, Reincarnation does happen. JANIS JOPLIN died October 4, 1970 my SISTER was born April 30, 1971...my SISTER looked just like the all Grown Up Janis Joplin. My SISTER use to Sing Janis Joplin's Songs. My Sister Died October 19, 2018. Family & Friends can't tell the difference between Janis Joplin pictures & my SISTER.
Real, heart felt tribute from a true fan.
I couldn't tell the difference, although I listened to most of Elvis' songs, many times.
Beautiful Ronnie sure do sounds like Elvis so beautiful
Ronnie McDowell is a great singer.
Yes Elvis has left the building...but not our hearts. And,we still have you Ronnie McDowell....Mr. Voice!!!!
