They can give it a thumbs down because they haven't lived it . Alcoholism is a bitch . George at least sang about the struggle . Am living it myself right now .I can still see the humor in this song and it gets a thumbs up from me .
Every song he sang either lived it, if not he put his heart and soul in it, for he was the ultimate professional of his craft, Unlike this new breed who portray themselves as country singers, his music will live on for decades others are forgotton at th end of the day.
Thanks , Can understand your Dads pain , lost my sister when she was in her early 20s. Glad to hear he's better now . Hopefully your family has healed as a group , and find solace in each other .
Well folks, the sound of my childhood, the man who my grandpa and I wore out 3 cassette tapes on roadtrips when I was young, the man who just last night I was listening to while drinking a beer, the Possum, the King of Country, George Jones died. The man lived harder and longer than all of his peers. This man exemplified country music. I got to see him live just a few years ago and he could still put on a show. The Golden Voice of Country.
Ol' George has a song called, Who's gonna fill their shoes, well nobody can ever fill his. Thank you George, God bless you, and God blessed us with you. Rest in peace. You will never be forgotten or replaced.
My mama had that song. If I seen it once, I've seen it a thousand times. That's Austin City Limits. He was married to Tammy Wynette. She used to hide all the car keys when he started drinking I read, where one time.,he hopped on the lawn mower to make his way to the bar in the city. Hahahaha!
Elvis and George were actually good friends and when they both started out did pkg shows together they had great respect for each other. Elvis is great and George is great too!,two of the Best there ever was there will never be another George or Elvis Ever !
Hello beautiful 👋 Simple music can make you sing, a simple hug can make you feel, better, simple things can make you happy, I hope my simple hello will put a smile on your face..
l agree with you, indeed George Jones is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style, he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days.
Most of the younger artist looked up to George Jones (thinking of the one ALAN JACKSON).How many remember our favorite Country Couple, at the time, singing "THESE DAYS I BARELY GET BY" at the George Jones Tribute Show? Yes, Blake and Miranda did a wonderful job. George would have been proud.
i agree, i have lived through it with my father. he is sober now, but he was real bad for a while. my brother died in a car accident, and dad drank to forget. good luck in your fight against alcoholism, it's not an easy battle.
Nothin' even comes close to George Jones, his voice was at it's best at this times period. "Later on it finally hit me....that you wouldn't be comin' home no more"
You have to read his book and it is well worth buying if you are a fan. He is by far the best voice ever in country music and he still records. Nashville music is a huge money maker and George and Merle dont get no radio play but they are the two greatest to ever record there.
I Have had this love hate relationship with my guitar 4 a time off and on...after hearing this song from the George have learned to play again without a drink in my hand....man oh man we have to keep this mans music alive.
GEORGE JONES ONE OF THE VERY VERY BEST !!!! Takes be back to childhood Daddy sang this to Mama alot, and needless to say she never thought that Dad was funny ! My Brother and I sure did though.......

George is obviously smashed. Still killing it. Hard to believe as talented as performer he was he would rather hide out in a Holiday Inn, Eat KFC and drink Evan William's than preform. I highly recommend The first season of Mike Judge's Tales From the Tour Bus. There is an episode about George and Tammy. The other season(s) are probably good as well. Season 1 was Country performers so I loved it.

Love this song! It was popular when I got divorced, so naturally, we had to have a Divorce Party! With George Jones' song Yabba Dabba Doo The King is Gone and so Are You as the theme!! Oh, yeah! Sure wish I still had that decanter that looked like Elvis...........
This is Country. This is the America we used to have.
Country music doesn't exist anymore I'm blessed to grow up listening to true artists
Luckily RUclips and Willies roadhouse exist on Sirius xm otherwise I wouldn’t listen to music
Absolutely correct. Haven't listened to country radio in at least 30 years.
Me too, Possum is the greatest of all time, no one is a close 2nd, Maybe Merle
No truer words spoken regarding country music. One hasn't been made since about 1975.
It's still there you just need to know where to look.
I don’t think I’ve ever played this song in my truck without immediately replaying it
Lol I sometimes can't get through the first half without doing that

No doubt!
the greatest singer in american music history ... hands down
100% Even in another Century artists will try to mimic him. Even more than Elvis and others...
@@perryfam5788it’s sad to say no one mimics this kinda of music
"I pulled the head off Elvis and filled Fred up to his pelvis ... " CLASSIC.
One of the last songs to be a hit from somebody who still had a sense of humor. Must be a soberly, serious, dull dimwit to not like this masterpiece.
This was played at my Dad's memorial when he passed 5 years ago today. RIP Dad, RIP George.
One of my favorite songs. Thanks for sharing your story. I tip my drink as a toast to our loved and deceased Fathers. Cheers!
