  • As one of the most sought-after and hard-working character actors of the 1980s and 1990s, Pete Postlethwaite is known for his performances in 'The Usual Suspects', 'Brassed Off', 'James and the Giant Peach', 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park', and his Oscar-nominated role in 'In the Name of the Father' with Daniel Day-Lewis.

When I think of Pete I think of Brassed Off, and his bruised nobility.

One of our finest actors . Feel very proud of Pete as an accomplished artist but most of all as a man . Thank you for this wonderful treat from a real fan like myself . It is good to see there are others out there that still value his passionate work. I remember feeling gutted when I heard news that he was no longer on this realm to gift us any more of his beauty. Still miss Pete being part of the acting world . A wonderful family man and human being

Paused halfway through to rewatch Brassed Off. I play in Brass Bands and it hits so hard every time I watch. One of the best British films ever made with one of the best solo performances ever given

This is an amazing profile and tribute to the actor. He was the embodiment of true devotion to his craft as an actor. I remember the movie "Brassed off" and the scene with his speech. So emotional and so real.
    Truly an amazing actor!

One of my favourite actors. This spotlight on his long and varied career has been wonderfully put together and was a real joy to watch. Instantly recognisable in any film, and memorable in any role.

I've seen far fewer of his movies than I thought I had, but he's still one of my favourite actors EVER. Even when he's 'just' a supporting actor, he owns every single scene he's in. He's also one of the few actors I genuinely miss and he deserves a far bigger profile than he has.

I've only just discovered this channel and this was one of the first videos I had to watch, I met Pete near the end of his life in the hospital he was receiving treatment in (he was always a big believer in the NHS). I'd only just started working there and knew him from being in Sharpe when I was a kid. I was pretty star struck and didn't want to disturb him while he was going through treatment but he would always smile and say hello, he was just a lovely bloke and though I didn't know him I was so upset when he passed away. This video is a great tribute to a great man, on and off the screen

The Duelists is now free on RUclips and I've watched it at least a dozen times but this latest was the first time I noticed Pete Postlethwaite's limited scene as the French general's orderly who gives him a shave at the beginning of the film. You are sorely missed Pete!

So, I've discovered the channels Hat's Off Entertainment, which covers obscure comedies and movies, and I've really enjoyed the work that Be Kind Rewind does highlighting the careers of women in film. But there's something really really special about what you're doing that strikes a oddly more personal chord with me, and I think it's because I've had this fascination for so many years with "character actors:" people who give some of the best performances in all of cinema but are often not recognized by their names, only their faces and the subconscious impact they leave on you.
I never saw this video when it was originally released and it's a shame that this re-upload hasn't gotten more views or attention, because of all the character actors that I remember growing up, Pete Postlethwaite is the one guy I actually know the name of, despite the fact that my one and only nostalgic memory of him is from James and the Giant Peach, precisely the same as you. But that one wizardly performance, and his narration at certain spots is all I knew him for until he started popping up in other things. I've never seen the larger roles he's most known for in the UK. I never got to see him at his best, but now I'm deeply fascinated.
I have to thank you for that.

I want to see Peter Postlethwaite, Clive Owen, and Paul Dano together in a Scorsese or Guy Ritchie movie. Just look at their faces and imagine them on screen together as a crime family or some revenge plot.

It actually makes sense because Pete and Daniel Day-Lewis has a lot of features that are similar so in the context of the movie it's not hard to think of them as Father and Son it looks organic like the casting of the character DJ in Roseanne the original kid didn't quite fit in a lot of ways but when they casted him he look just like Roseanne and Dan you can see where he fit in the scheme of Becky Darlene and DJ
