I grew up this way-on a farm, cooking from scratch, started making my own clothing at age nine! We are capable, as children, of doing so much more than we do now! My typical childhood summertime day-feed our two pigs, do several chores for my mother, weed one row in the garden, (took two hours) help my mother with lunch, then free to play. And boy, did we play! Swam in irrigation canals with snakes, swam in our pond, rode horses, pretended to be truck drivers, in my dad’s broken down work trucks-we went on some fantastic adventures and saw incredible places!!! (In our heads, of course) At night time, my brother and I would listen to Mystery Theatre on the radio, while eating sunflower seeds, and screaming to scare each other. We didn’t have a TV. Our's broke and didn't get fixed for 14 years. i was mad then, but grateful now-it turned me into a voracious reader. YOUR CHILDREN WILL THANK YOU FOR THIS WHEN THEY HAVE CHILDREN!!!
I am absolutely dazzled by your recipes, skill, and family. I found your channel when I was honing my sourdough bread and I couldn't stop watching video after video. What a blessing you are to your family and community. Home Cooks are all about loving those who father around their table. Thank you for allowing me to look over 😊😊❤❤your shoulder. God Bless
I absolutely love all of your videos. I love how your precious children get involved helping, they will remember you letting them help all their lives. I have tried some of your recipes and they are delicious. God Bless you and your family
Ruth Ann, you should honestly think about creating a cook book. I am 100% certain that your following would love to have your tried and true creations at “OUR” fingertips 🙏❤️ love and blessing always.
My daughter doesn't like cooked fruit whenever I make pies so this could be a better solution. Thank you so much for sharing. It was really cute how your sons wanted to help you make them.
Those kids are so cute! You’re a great mom!! Teaching them while they are young. That’s kind of gone to the wayside these days! Those pies look delicious and made my mouth water! Lol! Ty for sharing your skills, tips and tricks!!!
I make a pie for my hubby's coffee group (he is deceased) every week and join them at a McDonalds where they have coffee the oldest being 90 and I think the youngest is 78. Some have lost their wives or they are in assisted living situations. Ordered the Clear Gel think they are going to love this.
I was introduced to fresh strawberry pie when I was about a freshman in high school, and it was and still is made like you do your fresh fruit pies. Thank you for showing me just how I can make a delicious great fruit pie.God is good ,He really is. We see just how good through people like you, just sharing normal things that happened to you when you were at home. Thank you again. We love your aprons!!
Really like your videos, people can learn so much from you. Also love seeing your family, you really have good teaching methods not just for us but the way you educate your children on how to do things.
Loved how your boys made cinnamon roll ups with leftover pastry! My mother in law taught me the same thing! My husband and kids always ate them up first!
Excellent video. I bought clear jel at an Amish store, bc I heard it is great for pies, but got home and realized I didn't know how to use it!! Now I need strawberries!
I am so grateful that you show what to do when things are not perfect! I love pie, but didn't make them because I struggle to make a perfect pie crust! Leaving it a bit more wet and adding flour as you roll it makes so much sense! Your practicality in cooking, canning and baking is reducing my anxiety over these skills! Thank you!
You are a wonderful teacher. I am a novice baker (at 59 yrs of age!), And I believe that I now can attempt a pie crust bc of your tutorial. Thank you 😊
My mom taught me to make the cinnamon sugar with soft butter spread on the leftover crust dough. We would roll them up, slice them and bake them on a cookie sheet like cinnamon rolls. Yummy. I taught all 7 of my children to make them too.
Beautiful pies! I use 3 tablespoons corn starch and 1/4 cup water to 1/3rd of strawberries or peaches, crushed. (of 2 or 3 cups fruit) I use a potato masher on the fruit/cornstarch mixture, add 1/3 cup sugar, and cook it 5 min. Then slice up the rest of the fruit into the pie crust. I make spiral designs inside the pie crust. Then, I pour the cooked 1/3 fruit mixture over the raw fruit. Chill. Yummy. I add extract into the cooked 1/3 fruit. (Almond extract to peaches. None in strawberry) Thanks for showing another way. I use graham cracker crust if its really hot, and I don't feel like baking a crust. Nut crust is good, too.
Thanks so much for sharing this with me. Mom didn't know how to make pies so I didn't. Now I think I can make a great pie, thanks to you. You're a great teacher and I love seeing your family in the middle of everything!🤩
I had strawberry jello and some decent strawberries so I put a pie together - oh my, so easy and good! My husband loved it. Thanks for sharing such a great recipe!
I love seeing all the different REAL Tupperware products you use daily. I love all my Tupperware and a pet peeve when people call all plasticware Tupperware, it's not the same.
When we have scraps of pastry left over, my husband loves “scrappy pies”. I roll the pastry out and add raisins & a bit of sugar & bake in the oven. Family favourite in our home.
Thank you 💓 made my first cold pie today. Strawberry and blueberry mixed. That is what was in the freezer. I used 1 cup of water and 2 tbsp of cornstarch with the jello mix. Thank you so much for your inspiration. Also thanks for answering my question about the water level for canning. Can't wait to watch more 😍
We use shortbread for all our fruit pies crust. Save some of the pastry to crumble ontop (1/4). Prebake the crust for 10 minutes before adding in fruit and pastry crumble as topping.
I grew up in Florida and we ate fruit all the time, and made desserts from fruit. My husband grew up in Minnesota hardly ever got to eat fresh fruit, he's more of a chocolate, vanilla, mint, candy and cakes kind of person. Well, I'm the cook and make fruit desserts and eat fresh fruit all the time, he has, after 25 years, finally gotten a taste for the fruits over the sweets and the like. He actually ordered Key Lime pie (my fav) over cheesecake!
Your pies and the recipes are so different but look wonderful! I smiled throughtout as the kids pitched in and did their own creations. Thanks Zimmerman family!! ❤
I am new to watching your videos, but I have watched so many of them already! I love watching you and your family! Oh my goodnes, watching the little boys just fills my heart with joy! I’ve learned so much from you and am on day three of my sourdough starter and feel amazing about it! I can’t wait to make bread for the first time 😀Thank you!!!
thanks for sharing this recipe i had never heard of clear jell or this way of doing pies. i am also interested in knowing about your whipped cream container...what/where? thank you
Thank you so much for sharing your videos, and being here. You are such a an inspiration. I can't wait to try everything you show in all your videos. I work alot so I will try all these when I have my days off.
I made your pecan pie with maple syrup for Christmas, with your pie dough recipe as well. AMAZING!!! Absolutely love your pie dough. I used it to make a fruit pie as well. Yum yum! Thank you so much for teaching us all of this wisdom from generations of your family. Love you very much! ❤ happy new year to you!!!!
Many, many years ago I had a “boss” who shared a recipe very similar to this using Jell-o brand jello - peach flavor. We loved that pie. I hadn’t thought about it in years. I will get the clear gel and natural flavoring and will for sure make this again, this time, for my grandchildren. They adore raspberries- I’ve only ever had the peach. Thank you Ruthann.
Awesome video. I never thought to do the shortbread type crust. I can’t wait to try it. I do a strawberry pie the same way only I use corn starch. I will have to try the Clearjel. When peach season comes this year, I will definitely try the peach one! Thanks for sharing your recipes and knowledge with us. It is much appreciated!
Love your teaching ❤ Could I use Buttermilk instead of water? Seems like I always have extra milk and don't know what to make to use it. Watching from Beautiful Southern Iowa
Hi. I noticed that you wear the same style apron but many different colors. This mint green is very pretty. Do you mind sharing where you got your apron from? I just found your vlog and have been enjoyed watching it. Thank you for sharing your family and this pie recipe with us. God bless you and your family ❤.
Love ur recipes and your lovely family..I have a question about the amount of clear gel per pie...or are the correct amounts to use in the cool water printed on the gel package..maybe I missed that part..than you so much
Thanks for sharing! My pie filling recipe calls for much more sugar. I want to try your recipe to see if it's more like the local Amish restaurant pie.
We don’t put any sugar in our pastry at all in the UK, never heard of putting sugar in the flour 😂 because there’s going to be sugar in the fruit just a little. We also have a cooking apple which has a sharpe tang called a Bramley Apple but makes really good apple pie, we don’t cook the fruit before hand, same with the apples we just slice them thinly sprinkled with a little sugar, and it’s good to cook.
Do you have a video of the house Kendrick came to be a part of your family? I would love to know the story. Your family is such a joy to behold. It was so sweet to see Kendrick offer a piece of his treat to his sister.
I love the kids making their turnovers. So cute!

Love how the kids are always learning and participating in how life works. You are great teacher.
Yes and the children aren’t glued to a tv or cell phone.
Matthew 19:26 NKJV💝

Those look so good so where can I get the clear gel
Yum!
What is the whipped cream container that you use?
amzn.to/3BrW5pb
All the time!
Yes! I always think it's a shame to cook fruit or use too much sugar. It tastes better when you don't. Thanks.
Thanks!
You’re welcome and THANK YOU!!
Oh my the boys are so young here & dear Harrison has the Dennis The Menace hair poking up. Thank goodness he's not a menace😊
Yummm
Can tallow be substituted for lard. I have a ton of tallow
Wouldn't the jello thicken it up enough?
