  • Woodturning - In this video I do what many have wanted to see. I combine wood shavings from my recent roughing out video and combine it with Designer Epoxy and some spalted maple to make a really cool looking hollow form. Along with that I also have a major announcement from Designer Epoxy, thanks for watching!

When you said something was missing, then brought out the spalted maple, oh, you were so right! It makes the whole piece pop: light with dark figuring, against dark with light. Great choice! I'm not surprised it sold so quickly.

Looking at it without the light doesn't do it justice. Now, with the light OMG, it is so beautiful. Once again, you've shown us what can be done with not only wood shavings but things found in the backyard. Love it!!!

Dang…right when I went to message you about buying it, you mentioned that it was sold. I love this new medium, there’s so much more you can do playing around with wood types and colored tents. I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping that we see this done again soon. This chanel has become one of the highlights to my Friday.

I think you're right, Jim. It's the combo of Designer Epoxy, pressure pot and time that made it clean with no air bubbles. A super cool and interesting piece! I'd love to see another one with maybe a lighter shade of pigment, or maybe even clear, so that the wood shavings speak for themselves.

I like the 3D effect of this hollow form. At first I was not sure about the colour, if I was to be honest, but it’s growing on me that’s for sure. I think is goes really good with the colour of the wood chips.
I do like it best when it’s well lit from the top. It shows the 3D of the piece best, and it looks like calm water and the farther away the shaving is the darker it gets. It’s pretty cool when you see it with the best lighting.

What a great idea to use the wood shavings. If you do another one, maybe don't tint the apoxy so the wood colors are more defined. The maple collar really is a great finishing touch.

I was thinking the same thing... like a clear epoxy.... and maybe do the rice trick to get the hallow before the turn that way you won't use so much ( but then again you get that bag stuck in the epoxy too. 🤔) I think this is really beautiful. It gives me sort of wood suspended in water feel.

That's the trick putting it in the vacuum chamber and leaving it and letting it boil out and eliminate all the air in the wood, then the pressure pot sets the epoxy in the wood. I wasn't sure what this was going to turn out like, but when you put that first coat of finish on it -WOW. It gave it tremendous depth and a 3-D effect. I love the way you push the manufacturer's limits of their products and the end results always look spectacular. Great video as always and so enjoyable to watch. Keep'em rollin'

I love the wood shavings. They look great in the epoxy. I think the spalted maple collar was a perfect touch.

Totally agree with @bakojay8002 - I just love watching your videos. I was late catching it this week but usually try to catch some of it live if I can. Really WOW piece. I think I'd like to see another one done in a more vibrant shade or more transluscent. I love the feature collar - such a pretty wood. Thanks as always for a fantastic video and thanks to all your sponsors for helping to support the channel for our enjoyment.

I love the way the lines of the spalting pick up the curls and shapes of the shavings. Myself, I think I liked it best buffed without the coating. Lucky owner for this one!

Bonjour Jim. It was interesting to see you express your doubts at first and then be quite satisfied with the end result. It has an almost retro look, the wood shavings giving off a burl effect; the interior lighting revealed an amazing 3D effect. Another beautiful hollow form; Well Turned, Sir!
Good luck with your laser quest.
