Man, you threw everything at this bowl (black walnut , 2 colors of resin, sumac branches, colored UV resin, copper wire, and clear resin) but instead of it being too busy, it was definitely a success!
I really enjoyed your use of mixed media and your "backup and punt" attitude when materials give you complications. In this "cookie-cutter" world we live in it is refreshing to see someone put their art out there from beginning to finished product!❤
I agree! You just get the basic idea and if there is a complication, you just set up and punt! (I love football, can you tell? Lol! In watching your ability to go-with-the-flow it’s actually giving me the incentive to do that, too! Your videos are far more reaching than just woodworking! I am excited about catching up on old videos until a new one comes out! Thank you for your instructions!
I am just amazed that you didn't seem to think this bowl was anything but salvage. You turned it into a thing of true beauty. You really have a genius for melding color, grain, finish, different woods and metals. A true artist.
WOW!!! That's awesome. I give it a full 200 present.👍... Love that walnut,. You always score big there. The inlays with sumac, came out great. 🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Hi Jim, we appreciate seeing the overshot and sharing tricks of the trade. Just a thought, you might benefit from having a floor cushion as you are standing on cement in the same place for a long period of time. It would be less strain on your back, legs, and feet. As usual, your project turned out fantastic, two 👍's up. Keep on turning!! Oh! By the way, watching through those commercials was painful, but we want to support you and your channel. Lol
Factories I worked in for years always had foam padded mats for us to stand on since we were always basically in the same spot. Most times, our floor mats were 6' x 3' and very comfortable to walk around on.
So many amazing elements to this bowl that I can't pick just one that's my favorite! The color swirl, the copper inlay, the eyelets of color in the sumac branches, the profile...it's all just so lovely! I had no idea that sumac was UV responsive and now I wanna get some and play with it for jewelry making :) The distance footage really gives a nice idea of how you work the wood, which is great for someone who eventually wants to take a stab at learning how to turn wood and resin. I keep getting so many ideas and learning so much from watching your videos, so thank you for being so awesome about not hiding mistakes, for all the explanations of why and how you're doing everything. So many wood turners don't do that and they make it look so easy, which you prove it's not. I appreciate everything you do with this channel, Jim 😊
Hey Jim I am also based in Canada although quite aways away in central Alberta and I cannot agree more with your discussion on your shop build and the INSANE cost of building materials these days. I will say that as far as in Alberta the prices on lumber have gone down since the (C-word ) days when the amount of people doing their own projects at home were at an all time high... I am sorry for the amount of extra tax you folks take on out East as it is completely just another way for "people" to benefit from us hard working Canadians, I wish the best to you and your wife during the process and that the prices go down tremendously in the next year... Now as far as your woodturning/ artwork goes this is yet another amazing piece with your touch to it! Congratulations on the RUclips Play button plaque you deserve it thats forsure! Keep up this great content, my father and I look forward to your releases every week !
I do like the different angles for a bit of a change. It's so cool how you use everything you can and don't waste anything. ANOTHER beautiful work of art!!
Hi Jim I live the bowl. I particularly like the branches being put in more symetrical than some of your earlier work with the same type of branches. The copper wire between the branches was hard to see on my phone but dud look good diwn the bottom. The cours of the epoxy were great mid-colours between branches & bowl wood. Glad the wire inlay worked too.
I love that Walnut. Such a deeply rich wood. Love the inlay and yes it would be nice to be an 🐙 at times.😂. I just love watching the way things work and how you create masterpieces of art so whichever camera angle works for you is ok with me. 😊 Take care my friend and keep on turning!
As a fellow Canadian, I really love watching your videos. I love watching woodturning in general but I’d say you are my favourite. Listening to you talk through your projects is kinda like listening to a friendly neighbour, even if we’re in different provinces! ❤️
Bowl is amazing, like always. I work for a builder full time. Also a part time furniture maker on the side and now throwing turning into my tool box. Building cost are out of this world right now. That’s why I just bought a existing house instead of building. I’m also putting up a 30x50 metal building shop, but I wanted a block and truss shop but it was a quarter of the price to do metal.
Many ways to express how beautiful this is but I'll just say WOW, what a fine piece of art. Really love how you incorporated the sumac twigs. The whole process was very entertaining.
I really enjoy your channel because you talk us through everything. I love hearing your thought process and how you make your creative decisions. I am still working on my own art (painting) and it’s surprising how similar some of the choices are!
Love this bowl. The colors came out beautifully. I really like that you take what other people would consider flaws, mistakes, or trash and find a way to both repair and enhance the piece. Designer Epoxy
Good morning to all. Hope you are all enjoying the last day of Summer. Got my mug of hot tea and a fresh homemade apple fritter. Looking forward to this.😁
I stumbled on your video and couldn’t stop watching. What a beautiful piece of art and craftsmanship. Watching you creating these bowls is mesmerizing and satisfying. Thank you. I ❤️ 🇨🇦
Jim, a great project and the effort you put into this is clearly evident. I’m really envious of that chunk of walnut you have, it’s inspired me to get out in the woods with the chainsaw before winter. Well done mate! 🎉
Still the best part of a Friday evening. Guess those years of experience with the floor buffer paid off - "Let your hips do the walking!" I near snorted coffee out my nose laughing. Was good to see you have artistic fun with a bowl that didn't fight you every inch of the way. Oh happy days - lol. Luv ya and keep on doing what you do best. Fantastic end result!
Everything about this bowl is wonderful! Such amazing grain. The inlays are awesome. Your hard work really pays off here 😊. Also liked seeing the wider shot of you so we can see your working the tools on the piece. You had the perfect mix of close shots and wide shots. 😃 Cheers!
What an absolutely beautiful piece of wood, the inlay compliments it so well. Another gorgeous bowl. We have problems with taxes here too, feels like they will be taxing the air we breathe soon. Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
The Canadian government has created the housing crisis and between taxes, permits, development fees it is killing people. I find it amazing that we are taxed on top of taxes on money that has already been taxed. Anyways another spectacular project Jim, thank you
Yes, a prime example of that is all the materials are taxed when bought to build the house, then we pay the tax again to have the house built! Frustrating! Thanks
That resin and wood inlay/filler is up there with your best ever. The copper not so big one but a bowl with more of the resin and wood scattered throughout could possibly make number one in my books😁👍👍
Great bowl. Love the high camera angle. I've never seen anyone show that before. The inlay really adds an incredible element to the piece. Appreciate the commentary too. Very enjoyable.
Jim, The walnut and sumack give this bowl an amazing contrast with the bling of the copper wire completes this project into a beautiful work of art. No one can match your imagination and gifts.
Love the green epoxy playing off the yellow off the sumac. The copper inlay is stunning, and I like the cross section look of the pieces of wire in the sumac. Another fantastic piece, Jim!
Last week you didn't need the inlay. This week, it was the cherry on top of the cake. Love the branches in the resin. Beautiful. Liked the above shots, interesting to see how you you put your whole self behind the gouge.
Hi Jim. I’m behind with my viewing as I’m in France for my Granddaughter’s 16th birthday. I counted three typical British understatements while you produced that lovely bowl. 🌞
I love this! I really like the little addition of the new camera angle. I know this comment is late, I was out of town for 6 weeks without my laptop. A good friend lost her husband suddenly in September & I was staying with her.
So lovely 😍! I guess I'll re-watch your old videos again! Lol! It's just a little bit I can do for the injoyment watching your videos gives me. Happy house building 🏚 🏠
I think you made the right choice in colour Jim, it brought out the green in the sumac branches. My little guy (5yrs) tuned in this morning and said “you should make that next mom” 😅 thanks for preserving with that copper wire 😉 beautiful bowl this week.

Ooo, copper is my favorite metal, and green is my favorite color--so this is the best of both worlds for me! I love the focal interest of the sumac branches with copper "dots" spaced throughout. The copper wire inlay resembles fine rope, I really like that. Very nice bowl!
I love how you find the beauty in every piece of wood that you come across. Such a wonderful piece. When you mentioned using both pieces of wire and I thought, wouldn't look neat if you twisted both pieces together to make a unique design and then you only had to deal with one piece.
Whoo-hoo! 101K! It’s been fun watching all the turnings and enjoying the different techniques since early on. But, darn, more competitors for the draws, making it harder to win. 😜 Have to say, I keep going down to the nearby beach to fetch mussels (Pacific/California variety), oysters, and other assorted shells to stock my inlay supply. Great use for those broken ones found at the tide line. Keep those videos coming! And happy unboxing!!!
"Fixing issues" is why I watch the channel. I'd rather see the mistakes and how to fix them before they happen to me. Keep it up.
Thank you very much!

very nice job! I clicked on all six ads so now you can have that four feet of wood shop back!!!! lol
lol, it’s a start, thanks for that!
It is gorgeous!! !! I wish there was more.
Thanks again.
The green is perfect with those sumac branches. They are quite yellow.
They are a good match. Thanks.
Jim!!! OMG this is soooo nice! Beautiful!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!!
Hi Everyone. Much Love from Northern Ireland.

the new perspective let's us non turners see how you do it. Awesome shots. Love it.
Awesome, thank you!
I sit and create my art while I enjoy seeing you create your art🙂
Thank you very much!
The appearance of the bowl changed immediately. You acted like a wood surgeon. Very nicely done. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
Amazes me that you take a hunk of a tree and some random items and make such a beautiful work of art. I love black walnut. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
The bowl is stunning! I love all the colors .

I love this idea! It turned out so wonderful!

The new camera angle was great. It gave us a good sense of the length of your tools and how you use them.Beautiful bowl, walnut is king!
Awesome, thank you!

Agree on camera angle. I don't think people always appreciate the body movement when turning.
I appreciate the way you show the struggle as well as the ease of turning a project. The colors are beautiful.
Thank you so much!

What a great artist you are. The today creation is so so unic. It dose look like the 70th tome. I love it. Bravo.
It does have that vintage feel. Thanks
Super cool bowl. The copper wire was much harder to work with than I imagined. I do like the panned back view whenever you feel like doing it.
Cool, thanks!
I may have a new favourite, but I change my mind with every new bowl. I so love your style of work.❤
Thanks so much 😊
Looks amazing! Drilling out the holes in the branches was exactly the right thing to do. It definitely added even more interest to the piece.
Totally agree! Thanks
So lovely 😍! I guess I'll re-watch your old videos again! Lol! It's just a little bit I can do for the injoyment watching your videos gives me. Happy house building 🏚 🏠

Love this big bowl, beautiful colours with the copper wiring. I enjoyed the arial view too and would like to see more of it. 😍👍
Thank you! Will do!

Thank you very much!
I see why you love the sumac! It’s beautiful! Another stunning bowl
Thank you! Cheers!

Get er done, lol. Thank you very much!
This piece of walnut is stunning, and you sure jazzed it up. A fine work of art sir, outstanding. Good luck on the new house and shop, it's going to be a long haul the next 2 to 3 years. But it will be great when your all done. Again, great work and thanks for sharing it with us.🌿 ❇❇❇❇❇
Fingers crossed! Thanks
This is unreal, the drilled out centers look like jewels !!!
Thank you very much!
I love the inlay, and the colour, but I especially love the grain and colour of the wood! A beautiful end result. Thanks for another great video, Jim.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece! Great colors and the copper inlay is a gorgeous topper for it. Great job Jim!
Thanks a bunch!

This stuff won’t twist together good, if it was solid wire, sure it would work and I’ve showed it here on the channel. Thanks
Great idea with the sumac wood branches and the copper wire, it came out beautifully!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love how that Sumac glows! Great contrast with the darker walnut. Very cool!

True! Thanks
The Copper Wire inlay turned out very cool! Awesome piece once again, Jim!
Thanks again!
I love walnut wood, but adding the sumac, epoxy and copper makes this bowl amazing.
Totally agree! Thanks
Love the combination of the sumac and walnut very cool with the cooper wire added. Thanks Jim
Glad you like it, thanks!
I like up close but both views are best
Got it. Thank you very much!
This has to be one of my favorites you’ve made! Love the colors. I like the additional camera angles- very instructive.
Awesome, thank you!
