I was 9 on the day that this edition of The Big Match was aired. Happy days and fond memories of Sunday afternoons back then thanks to this channel my friend.
McDougall was a good player but he is a in the box goalscorer & when he went to Man U they didn't provide the ball for him as they were awful then. But he went to Norwich & S'hampton & scored goals. A good solid player.
The indignation of the journalist asking is he worth £200,000. Wonder what they’d make of today’s transfer fees. Belllingham for €100 million (or maybe even more)?
Most of the city fans probably came from Brentford area they supported man utd a few years back or was it Liverpool anyway they would struggle to know where Manchester is let alone city's ground 🤣🤦
Harry Redknapp used to be a professional footballer then? I did wonder... They'd spent a lot of money on a stand which was never finished (Bond's Folly) hence Bournemouth and Boscombe's need to offload McDougall.
The Evening News headline was 'United Sign Goal Ace MacDougall.' I went to his debut game for us at West Brom. he didn't score but got one the following week at home to Brum. Shame Tommy Doc didn't hang on to him but United were a mess in those days with players coming in and out through a revolving door. I think we sold him to West Ham not long after Lou Macari arrived.
@@LeighRichards27 Yes he looked very cumbersome alongside Best Law Charlton etc on some of the games i have seen him play on You Tube while at Old Trafford.
@@YeOldeFootballChannel Brilliant stuff this mate keep it up ha. No tremendous , Can you get the Millwall game v Middlesbrough ? Millwall 1st time on the Big Match, Great to see John Docherty and super mac the other one playing in the same Game Brentford

Loved the pitch invasion from the Man at C&A lol...
That was when you were allowed to come on the pitch and coach players personally, I think it was stopped the following season, shame really.
Nice to see Harry redknapp playing for Bournemouth if he had known what was in store in the future
Good to see Bmth back then . Keith Miller and Ted used to train me in my youth . Keith was a lovely man .
Some heavy duty sideburns on display - a different time!
Yes, some of them needed their own post code
Ted MacDougall needed Phil Boyer alongside him as wherever they went, they scored stacks of goals.
At 42.00, the full addresses of the people who have sent letters in. Magic
I’m surprised they didn’t give out their phone number as well
Brentford v Boutenmouth is now a Premier league fixture. Who would have thought it?
Ted MacDougall shares the exact same birthday as David Bowie , not a lot of people know that !
There's a Starman waiting in the sky...
They do now😊
Thankyou oh Footy God.
You got to love the full addresses
Super Mac ! 🍒🍒
Super TedMcDougall!
Notice how players had the ability to use both feet back then.
6 minutes in..."McDougall ain't worth 5p" 😄
Was that you !
No wonder he ended up at norwich
Who did you play for ..? 🤫
Was that the artful dodger out of Oliver Twist shouting that?

Willie Morgan... Top player

At the time that would have at least equalled the British transfer record.
The Belgian bloke with the syrup could have had a word with Andy Lochhead
Don't forget the likes of Bobby Charlton, Terry Hennessey, Terry Mancini and Alan Gilzean. Those hairstyles seemed to be very popular back then.
At least they look like men, unlike modern day footballers.
harry redknap...wow!
More supporters at Brentford than a Man City home game.

Then many years later the Cherries 🍒 turned Dean Court 90° and created the Steve Fletcher Stand.
A Ted Mc Stand would have been better.
He seemed to come alive in the penalty box.
5 days later MacDougall went to Man Utd for £200,000

Cigarette advertising.
£200,000 thats half a weeks wages nowadays
ironic interview with Bond, within a week Macdougall joined Man Utd for £200000
And he was awful at united - bond was never the best judge of players lol.
Transferred to Man United for 200k. He lasted just 5 months & totalled 18 league games at United (5 goals) & was moved on to West Ham for 30k less.

Can I ask please, where did you get all these old Big Matches, did you tape them back in the day?
Trading with other fellow traders who have a lot of full editions taken from the archives.
you are doing a great job @@YeOldeFootballChannel
more spurs with greavsie would be great !!

Something wrong!
They are all white, and all British (bar 1).
Not much chop McDougall - obvious from this footage why he couldn’t cut it in the top flight. Ordinary first touch and not much control.
He only played 5 times for his country , not bad for someone who couldnt play .
