    As someone from the states (Dominican-American) who lived abroad in Latin America as well, I wonder what your perspective on expats is in terms of the gentrification that occurs?
    As we know, Dominican Republic has had foreign investors for a very long time, but what impact does that have on the local people? Does it benefit them in the long term or does it raise the price of their immediate surroundings and price them out?

    • @CherylHendersonPuntaCana
      @CherylHendersonPuntaCana  3 месяца назад +5

      Gentrification is always going to come hand-in-hand with progress and change. My specific history has been in Punta Cana. Many people do not realize that Punta Cana is a very new community. Punta Cana did not exist until the 1970’s. When I came here in 2006 most of what you see now was not here. The development of this community has resulted in incredible growth in jobs. Dominicans move here from all over the country because of the increased opportunity to support their families. I believe we all have a responsibility to our community, and even more so as a business owner. Staying involved, responding to the needs of the community and respecting the culture we are in is vital.

    So, you add another 10% for a tip, already on top of the 10% tip, plus the 18% tax by the Government of the D.R.?

    • @CherylHendersonPuntaCana
      @CherylHendersonPuntaCana  2 месяца назад +1

      The 10% Ley is not a tip for your server. It is an amount mandated by the government that is supposed to be divided amongst all the employees of the restaurant. It is not a tip for your server. If you get good service I highly recommend an additional tip specifically for your server.
