Length of time depends on heat and humidity. It is recommended to apply to a freshly frosted cake or a frosting that is not hard (ie just out of cold refrigerated-note instructions are different for an ice-cream cake). Let set unrefrigerated for for about an hour. You'll be able to tell it has set when soft to the touch. Cake is always best served at room temp. If it is really hot and humid once set put the cake in the refrigerator and treat the cake as you would any frosted cake in the summer. Another note, if you refrigerate with a plastic cover there may be condensation on the the plastic that will drip on the cake when you take it out of the refrigerator- watch that this does not drip on your image. When set, you can cut into the frosting sheet like regular frosting and enjoy!!!
Hi Nadia, Whipped cream frosting is too wet for the frosting sheets - it will dissolve the sheet. Buttercream works great. And, for fondant, you can either moisten the fondant by brushing it with water - no pools of water - just dampen or use corn syrup or use a wet royal frosting. For fondant, put the fondant on the cake and then apply the topper. Happy topping : )
For frozen black forest cake: 1) Use white butter cream frosting (chocolate frosting is not impossible but the dark color may affect your topper colors) 2) Whipped cream frosting sometimes used for black forest cake is not recommended because the high amount of liquid in the cream will dissolve the topper 3) Apply the topper before you freeze it, allowing the topper to set before freezing and to serve, let the dessert thaw in the fridge or, alternatively, defrost the cake and then apply the topper. Happy topping and congrats with your business!
I am not sure which brand of frosting sheet you are using, but if there is too much moisture in the frosting - especially if you are using whipped cream frosting rather than butter cream - the moisture will dissolve the topper. This would account for it becoming blurry. Usually, we recommend you top a cake at room temp using butter cream frosting, but if this is the frosting that you have to work with - make sure the frosting stays firm in the fridge and after you top keep refrigerated. I am not sure about the steamed up. Unfortunately, some frosting don't work as well for frosting sheets.
Hi Angela, The cake is 10x15 inches half-sheet cake that was purchased at a super market bakery. You can purchase boards or containers like this through Wilton online or these are available at a bakery supply store or in the bakery section of a craft store like Michaels. Have fun!
