That split is INSANE!! This reminds me of 2012 when I bought and renovated a two family home next door (brick, built in 1941). We finished, people moved in. House sat for 1.5 years untouched. Shower and toilet water from the upstairs bathroom was dripping and streaming into the basement 2 weeks later. We had to move the oven/range cooktop, and hood to open the wall in the kitchen. Replaced with ABS strapped completely to the poured concrete divider wall. There is simply something about old steel or cast iron pipes lacking use splitting open. It happens on its own too, obviously. Bad casting that is stressed by the mass being vertical.
Yes! We find this with cast iron that has reached its lifespan.

Tho not many thought about your comment but I too would agree with your theory because if that problem was sinking/settling the stucco would be cracking much would that around windows, and doors would be a problem too.
That house has signs of age settlement/sinking based on those window cracks. I wonder if the house shifted and stressed the sewer pipe into splitting.
Defect in manufacturing I guess
Building on those giant hills in Los Angeles those hills shift over time all those houses will crumble in a major earthquake
@@zlord1199 same problem in southwest Washington. Alot of homes 800k plus are being built on hillsides and where historically there have been mud slides or sink holes.
They have insurance, they plan on it.

What about gnats ? I swear there is a busted pipe . Smell not bad (unless I’m use to it ) but we live in texas and it feels humid inside home . We change our filters frequently. Could you have a pipe issue with gnats but no smell ?

You found the Co's, but you didn't say where the vent ends. They have the large deck on the roof. I can't imagine where it would terminated that it would not be offensive.

2:41 Roof drain? Hole seen at base of perimeter wall on left side of screen.
Look and learn. It was a strange crack in that pipe, it did look a bit like it was a frost crack, but it could as well be a badly made pipe with built in stress that just needed a small starting damage to crack all the way.
Using a drain as a vent is as I see it creative and not really a standard way to do it, but at least it's not a horrible solution. Just expect some sewage smell on the patio.

Great question! No, cast iron has a lifespan, they snap crack like this when they get old.
