Today I’m checking out a job that I got called out to because the contractor said he thinks the plumber poured concrete down the sewer… Of course, we had to go check this out! Today I’m going to tell you the whole story, go check out the damage, and see what it will take to fix this repair.
Look, if you’re not happy with a customer, there’s a right and wrong way to pursue it. THIS IS THE WRONG WAY! I do not condone this type of behavior.

Maybe they'll let him unclog the prison toilets
Its usually disgruntle/evicted rental tenants or people losing their house to foreclosure, but never the plumber. Wow SMDH
Tell me that they were able to file a civil suit or that you can help them take him to small claims court.
Criminal trespass and vandalism charges update?
So the plumber got paid, and still trespassed with malicious intent? He should go to jail for that one
But he wont. We all know that right...
Charges have been filed.... He is up $#!+ creek...
@@RogerWakefield I am glad criminal charges were filed. This was a crime and that person needs some jail time to realign his/her anger management issues. He will also have to pay restitution to the homeowner, which will be your bill. I hope you will testify for them either free of charge or for a small fee. They will need your video of what you found, when you found it and what needed to be done to fix it.

People that do stuff like this should immediately get their license revoked!
@@IHateHandleNames you have to have a plumbing license in the state of Texas. Robert Wakefield states that in almost every video. He even stated there was a complaint against the plumber's license filed.
He should be in prison for intentionally destroying someone else’s property in an effort to defraud them.

I saw this where a plumber poured so much concrete in that it made it to the sewer main. Last I checked no only was his company liable for the damage to the house's sewer, but the city went after him since they had to rip up the street and replace a section of the main.
Wth?! Did he hire a cement truck to fill up those pipes & the driver was just like:

I work for a Sewer & Drain cleaning business in Wisconsin. One of the big Midwest companies came in to an elderly homeowner's house. They did some light cleaning in the floor lateral, and told the homeowner that the basement needed to be dug up because of broken piping. We came in later that day and did a water test. Everything was draining beautifully and running past the front cleanout with no issue. We looked at the signed contract from the other company who was coming in the next day to 'repair the piping'. They didn't even want to replace the concrete that they were going to dig up. We told the homeowner to cancel that appointment and to give us a call if he backed up again. I was floored that a plumbing company would prey on an elderly homeowner to line their pockets.
I've also heard stories of other companies coming into do it televised inspections. They would show the homeowner a video of another house that had broken piping to try and coarse them into replacing it.

damn this family had their home destroyed and then they have to deal with a POS plumber that does that. what happened to being honest, hard working and respectful? glad roger was able to fix the issue very fast. people used to be ran out of town for doing stuff like this
If you go back far enough, you'll find stuff like this was always a thing. People were always dicks like this. This isn't a new phenomenon.
Most likely - and this isn't the family's fault. But I assume they hired some cheap local contractor to save money. The issue is a lot of those cheap local contractors, like this guy, are just in it for a quick buck. Like my grandmother paid some guys to do some tree trimming for her a few years ago, and they got all the money up front (gullible grandma), and kept postponing what should've been a 20 or 30 minute job for weeks on end. (she wanted to get a single branched cut down that was hanging over the house). Needless to say, they just ran off with the cash. I think it's best when getting any work done by contractors that you fork over the extra cash and do the extra research to make sure you get a qualified one.
Not gonna lie, if a contractor asks for over 75% of their quote, I’d start getting suspicious. Then again I’ve heard too many stories of people taking the money and running before the jobs done or intentionally cutting corners and pocketing the rest.
If they're on the up and up, they won't be scuffed at being turned down for more than 60% at the start.
i agree..in my state 33% max is all you are allowed to charge up front for any job over 1k dollars and must be a signed contract.....under 1k you can make any deal with homeowner you want on a handshake..
1/3 at contract signing 1/3 after a majority of the work is done and the final 1/3 after final inspection. Anyone who ask for anything more than this I would suspect of being a scam artist.
Jus get another contractor if asked something like that. Red alarms should be going off, no official business will do that. Maybe some broke ass1s but not official. But again people always trying to save a buck get bucked. Lol
It goes the other way too
I saw this once at an apartment complex when I applied for the supervisor job. They had a ground floor unit that nothing would flow through. On the interview, they wanted me to look at it and tell them what I thought. It was obvious there was concrete in the line and it was deliberate. They wanted my opinion so I told them, " Start digging ". Needless to say, I didn't get the job. Not the answer they were hoping for.
Ive been in construction my whole life, when i was in my 20's i knew a guy that destroyed plumbing for a living. A local plumber here in Houston, had a contract with several chain business, mostly restaurants. Any time these businesses had a plumbing issue, he was the guy that they called.. knowing this, the plumber hired a guy to dive around to the suggested sites to destroy plumbing late at night or early morning.. he'd stuff rags and pour stabilized sand in the clean outs, break toilets and sinks, cut lines, bust pipe, and whatever he could access without being caught. This went on for a few years that I know of, and may still be happening...

I was a plumber many years ago and this is unbelievable. This guy should go to jail.
This should be more than a license revocation, this should be criminal. I'm sure it depends on the actual monetary damage, but I would be consulting my local prosecutor if this happened to me.
I generally like to get 200% up front and then you get the rest back when I'm done.
@Barry Allard depends on the job. If I've got the right customer I like to get the deed in my name before I begin work. Purely a liability thing!
I'd be pouring some concrete boots if he tried this with me... 😂
Yeah if this was my house there might be a "tragic" methane gas explosion. Hey, you shouldn't smoke around open pipes...

During the 20 years of my plumbing career, I sure thought of various spiteful things to do to get back at those customers who tried or did refuse to pay for services rendered. But I NEVER followed through. That dude is nuts.
Seriously. I’ve been screwed over more times than I can count, and thought up good ways of revenge. I didn’t do it, because it just makes things worse, and there’d probably be cameras like these people had!
The thing is, this plumber didn’t even get screwed. He got 90% of his asking price up front, before he even made his first trip to the supply house. Before he even brought out his tool bag. He would have received the last 10% after he completed the job. He didn’t get screwed, nor was he going to get screwed. I’ve had to wait after the inspection to get the last 10%. This idiot pooped his own diaper for no reason, now he’s going to have to wear all kinds of dirty diapers on his face and he deserves it. I’ve been burned before, luckily, not bad enough where it was worth pulling off another job to go after it. And yes, I’ve had ideas to make it “even” but my cruel ideas are way worse than the amount of money I’ve been burned. Either way, going the small claims or rigging something to fail, causing damage to person or property, just not worth it.
Same. Been there too, because I'm too nice. It's just better to walk away. I usually get half up front anyway, so all I'd be out of is my time.
Spaceman Rick I didn’t mean he got screwed. He should have cut his 10% loss and moved on. It wasn’t even the homeowner’s fault.
5Rounds Rapid, exactly. Homeowner didn’t do anything wrong! He would not even be out that last 10% if he just finished the job. From the way Roger is telling it, the homeowner had no problem paying the last 10%, but only on the condition the job is complete, which I think is a reasonable request.

Had a contractor come to our home after hurricane Michael threw a tree through our roof. Everything seemed fine and he had me sign a "mold inspection form" telling me it gave him permission to go into my attic and look for mold. Apparently in the fine print it also allowed him to sue my insurance company in my name for anything he pleased which he immediately did for a laughably huge amount of money (more than replacing the entire house would have cost). He never did an ounce of work to the place and the insurance company fought him (with our help) and won and now he is being prosecuted for forging one of my neighbors' names on a similar document. What an idiot. I remember being very worried about the form I had signed but my own lawyer assured me that nothing I signed could ever give him permission to commit obvious insurance fraud like he was doing so I was totally in the right.
Long story short, don't sign anything without letting your insurance agent look it over first.
Always read over contracts to their fullest before signing. Also ask questions about what something means as needed, even though contracts are enforced by how the agreer and not writer interprets it, you have to be able to prove that it how you understood and that can be hard to do.
lawyers are always better than insurers to talk to, insurers only care about themselves.
You'd think people who owned their own business would do everything NOT to go to prison and lose their license
To those of you who love their craft I salute you and appreciate all you do. When your home is messed up it puts a very heavy stress on you. Also dont cheat your plumbers and dont be a downer on the world it has enough.
I use to be a crew leader for 7 years at a Municipal waste water department and have seen plenty of shady plumber work just in the outside lines! We aren't allowed to enter a customer's home so it's believable that plumbers would do this in the inside lines. But like you said it's just sad to see work done like this. People will do anything crappy to other people just for money. Good awareness video! 👍👍
I absolutely hate shady tradies. My mum confronted some tilers that offered a free roof inspection to find that they had cracked a few tiles then offered to fix them for a "discounted price". We learned our lesson the hard way.
The principle of TANSTAAFL should be taught in primary schools. Sorry to hear you learned firsthand.
Isn't half down and the other half when completed considered "normal"?
It depends on the customer and the job. At our company we have a few basic pay schedules we use and we try and work with the customer so everyone is happy. I have never been paid 100% before the job was complete however.
Depends. The down payment should be no less than 35%.
I remember way....way back in college this was part of a construction management course. If I remember right general contractors usually pay sub contractors something like 40% before the job starts to cover materials, then as the work is being completed they release more of the funds like another 25% part way through, then another 25% on completion then there was emphasis on this: The LAST 10% is WITH HELD until the final inspection is complete and any defects are repaired. THEN the last 10% is released. So when this guy was bitching about getting the last 10% up front I suspect he had problems with this in the past, as the last 10% isnt released until everything is inspected and perfect. Sometimes contractors walk away from the job if the defects to repair are more costly then the 10%. This guy was probably famous for it.
My experience if you really been thirds 3rd upfront 3rd after one week or midway and a 3rd after completion
I would think that the only thing paid up front should be for anything custom. IMO, if they are otherwise asking for money up front, it's a huge red flag that the contractor can't handle money, and they should be avoided.
We are so blessed to have found you
Sense of humor is paramount when doing hard work! Love the way you clean your camera lens!

I'll never forget the contractor that finished a job, found out he was gonna get stiffed, so he just tore it down & got all of his materials back.

I have seen this before here in San Antonio. It’s sad. To demand 100% of the job estimate upfront is insane. That’s grounds for potential theft. I can understand a portion upfront to keep the customer invested in the project or perform the job in phases but I always advise customers agains pre payment. This is vandalism at its finest i I hope Sidney gets this one!
Pre payment is for the plumber to be safe if the customer doesn't pay, usually it's enough money to cover the costs of the labor done before the next payment so the plumber doesn't go into the hole and they can trust each other on payment.
Only pre payment I ever take is if a customer is not on site, landlord/tenant situations. Most other jobs, big jobs require a 1/3 up front, unless 100% of the job is financed.

Thanks for the video brother.
I've heard of this but never personally seen it or experienced it. I have however met a guy who is no longer licensed who pulled a submersible pump up and cut it loose and let it fall in the well about 120 feet deep. He also cut every water line under the house. According to him, the customer refused to pay because he charged more than he quoted. He then lowered his price to the original quote and the customer still refused to pay. He took the customer to court and won, but 2 months go by and he still hadn't got his money. He snapped and proceeded to take his money back in the wrong way. He ended up losing his license over that and had to pay another plumber to fix the issue. I felt bad for the guy and kind of understood. It sounded like the customer had bad intentions to begin with and got the best of him.
I work in new construction as a plumber watched the sparky's pour coka cola down the conduit that went through the slab for their wire, which was full of concrete after a pour. It worked got it all out.
I've heard stories like this when I was taking Plumbing vocation, but never seen it till this video. Hope that guy gets what he deserves.
There's no reason why he wouldn't have just finished the job and got the money, there's likely some drug or other illegal activities he's doing to need the money that bad. I hope the DA makes an example of this guy.
The fact that he wanted all of his money up front, sabotaged their plumbing when he didn't get it, and then gave them a quote to repair the damage HE caused, again presumably wanting the money upfront, seems to me like he was probably planning to get out of town. Was likely going to take the money and run. It would also explain why he was so brazen in committing this crime in broad daylight on camera. If he was just going to leave town it was unlikely to ever have consequences.
Looks like these people hired Wario instead of Mario. Jokes aside, he should be sued and pay for the damage done, and he should lose his plummer lisence and ability to continue in this line of work in the future, this is not only sabotage, it's destruction.
I'm not sure if this is intentional, but this joke is even funnier given that Mario is a plumber.
@@MatthewCampbell765 What do you mean ''if this is intentional''? xD Of course it was intentional, Mario being a plumber and all. But it seems like they hired Wario, Mario's ''evil counterpart''.
You sir are a King of plumbing! :D Thank you for being one of the stand-up dudes. :D
Unbelievable sending prayers
why blur out his face and van? if i was this homeowner i would make damn sure the whole local area knew who this was, to warn people against using him.
Its a middle aged guy with a plumbing channel he's not gonna wanna start Internet drama
RUclips'd be all over it, it's against ToS.
Think it's likely privacy laws or something making him required to do that
@@cczsus6513 plus if he were found not guilty by a jury, he could sue for defamation and slander
There's a reason why news outlets use the word "allegedly", they don't want to get sued.
I would bet that the plumber either has a bad drug habit or a gambling addiction. Such people get a really huge sense of entitlement and become extremely malicious when they do not get what they think they are entitled to. The owner should take solace in knowing that the person who did that to her will always end up miserable from bad life choices.
Journeyman Plumber sharing his experiences. Nice.
Gonna sub this channel for filling up my brain.
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Man if I was in Texas I would love to work with you you’re videos are very informational for us younger guys in the trades I’ve been plumbing for 11 years and I’ll still listen to what ever someone tells me or shows me you can never stop learning
I can only hope the homeowner presses charges for some measure of malicious destruction of private property and anything else they can. This plumber deserves nothing less than the destruction of his business and prison.
This is the kind of thing that makes people like me, become a DIYer. As a former garage door contractor, I do every trade myself including plumbing, electrical, and car repair. I even cut my own hair and do my own taxes! Sorry, but I just don't trust people anymore and your example tells us why. [I would trust you though].
Yup I worked at a auto shop where they payed me 1 dollar above minimum wage to do A tech level jobs meanwhile the shop was charging the customers 125 per hour on labor.straight criminals I’ve seen them sell jobs that cost hundreds of dollars to people that live paycheck to paycheck when the the car didn’t even need the work. But they have a blue lives matter and trump sign on there window so sadly most people think there legit
I’m with you, I’ve been doing things on my own the past few years because I just can’t trust people anymore. It’s sad but true.
If you do electrical/plumbing work without training youre playing with fire. Unless youre wiring/plumbing to code you run the risk of property damage or personal injury. Even if you do it to code, unless someone who is licensed did the work, insurance companies wont pay.
@@chuckhickman8093 I always consult with experts in the field, view IBC online and look at RUclips videos beforehand. I normally go a step further than the building code, For instance, I use metal electrical boxes and BX cable when it is not required.
@@michaelberta3153 You clearly missed the most important step of staying at a Holiday Inn last night in your list.
I love to see an honest professional shaming the dishonest ones.
Wow!!! I’m a handyman and even I think that is low. 😜🤣
But you’re a good handyman, right? Handymen have their place, for sure. The first world couldn’t exist without them
Me see’s Roger using Milwaukee tools...
Subbed💯
Thank you for doing what is right. I have never paid more than 50% cost up front for large repair or remodel work. No way I'm paying someone on the front end for work not even started- you have no recourse and they may just skip out on you.
My mother had her house flooded thanks to my teen brother and had some plumbers come over to see what they would need to do Bc some lines broke, because I watch your videos we managed to catch them trying to fix a sink line with the main water still on. Glad I come to stay during December now.
I just discovered your channel. Who knew that a guy who talks about plbuming would have a huge channel with so many subscribers and stuff
I just found your channel and started binging im a young welder in school in Iceland love your videos man
What do you do as a welder? Just want to know if you like doing custom requests or contracts
I was a finish carpenter in Beverly Hills doing a home remodel for a contractor. The plumber got mad at my boss and disconected the only bathroom on the job site. We all had been using it for months. This bathroom was located on a raised foundation above a crawl space. The solid waist piled up all the way to the toilet flange and plugged the toilet. There wasn't any pipe at all. One of the guys went over there on the weekend and removed it by 5 gallon bucket's full of it and then the contractor had him put this powered stuff on the ground to keep it from smelling. I'm not sure how much that guy charge him to do that nasty job but he did it. The clean up job wasn't done to code. I bet that it ended up stinking after we all left and were finished with the job.
This is the first time I ever hear of something as nasty as this. Thanks for being so professional and explaining about (Licences) and the motives of this individual. Why someone would do something so drastic, and why its still horrible that they did so regardless.
Heard of this being done but never seen it myself. Sounds like there's more to this situation.. we need more information. Shame they didn't use you from the start.
Mr Wakefield has stated in several of his videos that he's not the cheapest and doesn't try to be either. That would practically be a disqualifier for an insurance company picking the tradespeople. I would speculate that it wasn't the insurance company, but rather the homeowner or GC, who called him in.
My dad was a plumber from the age of 16 and worked full time until 83 years old. The only reason he stopped was because he got cancer. Thanks and take care.
Why is this channel so soothing
roger is the only one i trust and want doing my plumbing
I've never seen ANYTHING even remotely close to what this guy did. I feel sooo much for those people. I hope they get everything sorted out. 😨
