  • Charlotte Gainsbourg earnestly, affably discusses her self-perception and how, despite a life begun at 12 in film and music, she doesn't consider herself an artist, and how this may actually be reassuring and affords her a healthy distance form the trappings of compulsory creation of Art. She also talks about returning to music 20 years after the death of her father, with whom she recorded the controversial "Lemon Incest" at age 12; her work with Lars Von Trier on Anti-Christ, for which she was voted Best Actress at Cannes; recording with Beck. I edited out my questions for length and I regret having to do this to fit the 10-minute limit, though what you see here is the essence of the conversation. More notes to come.

Not fluent enough? I've always held her up in my mind as the example of perfect bilingualism.

That was an incredible interview. What a talented woman. Her humility leaves me breathless. I find her beauty so compelling! May she continue with her art for decades to come.

love this chick... Saw her playing Bob Dylan's wife (sara) in "I'm not there" which was my first time ever seeing her an that really got me into her movies. She is a talented and bold actress, that's for damn sure. It's unfortunate that she'll probably never win an Oscar or be a big star in the US due to her "Avant Grade'" roles but she is far more talented than a lot of the mainstream actresses out there by far! in my opinion

Just watched Jane Eyre (1996) and looked up Charlotte. Now I see there's a lot more to her than I had previously thought.

Charlotte Gainsbourg is wonderful. She also understands Lars Von Trier better than most. Journalists are lazy and only focus on provocations instead of looking at what's beneath it all.
