When you have to take the against side of a debate at school.
Most people know what Hitler did was understandable. They can understand that sentence. If you don't learn about the conditions that cause military people to act in a military manner then you won't understand what Trier said. I know all colonising attempting armies are roughly as bad as each other. Stating that i understand why Napoleon or Churchill or Bush or Blair did what they did isn't agreeing with or supporting what they did. It's the same as stating that you understand why an addict couldn't quit their alcohol addiction.

It is very telling that Skarsgård, a fellow Scandinavian, understands what Von Trier is trying to communicate, and even finds the mess he is in quite funny. He gets it.

He is an actor, acting warmth in order to help the poor bastard director pull himself out of the slump.
It's like Ken Jeong laughing out loud in a "Community" group interview to drown down the obvious tension between Chevy Chase and Dan Harmon.
@@naomiharbour7841
Or he gets it, and you don’t.
I also find it quite telling that the leader of the Jewish Community in Denmark “got it”. He wasn’t offended. So the people that are Scandinavian Jews were not offended. In fact they understood what he was trying to say. Only the literal minded, Amercanized simpletons in Cannes didn’t get it.
But you don’t have to take my word for what Skarsgård thought. He has stated it explicitly:
“Well, I was there, and I spent a week defending him. At the press conference, he couldn’t get to the punchline, he forgot the punchline, and he sort of muddled up what he was saying. But he was in a room with people that knew him. Everyone knows he’s not a Nazi. So to him, it was a shock when the next day, every paper in the world said he was a Nazi. His kids came back from school asking, “Dad, are you a Nazi?” The cowardice of the film festival was the most embarrassing thing. They asked him to apologize, and he apologized. Not for the words he used, but for fucking up the press conference, basically. And then two days later, they banned him from the festival. That was the Cannes festival that was called “The festival of free speech,” because they had some Iranian directors that year. So the festival of free speech kicks him out for speaking.”

Look, you rambling little caveman (that is my honest opinion of you, and if that offends you, you are a snowflake as well),
the quote you just provided doesn't strengen your argument, but mine. The actor didn't think the director was funny, but he sympathized with him, hence the smile (and you can also see at the end when he drops his head, then pulls it up again towards von Trier forcing half a smile).
Regardless of the repercussion, as a German (yes, I am that too) the remarks about Hitler and Speer were simply meritless and stupid.

In Denmark we arent a bunch of pussies who cant take a good joke. LOL
the best part is "gods best children" then laughing haha
@@sorvex9 Yeah man but this was more like a desperate attempt at getting out of a hole he had dug himself with attempts at comedy more than anything lmao
@@suqmaddiqq I mean with a different crowd there would be laughter at the jokes, but when you’re doing a panel like that where there’s a bunch of cameras and journalists, yeah bad idea
@@nolestrono look, you normies dont get it. get your system straight with truth by watching "europa: the last battle" ... first, disassociation will set in ... after some years. you might actually become a full human being (subconsious and consious working together, now they are still working egainst eachother)
The second reporter hoisted him out of the hole but Lars jumped right back in it
King move
He wanted to be able to relate to a Jew by digging his own grave
@Cockoff Gewgle I feel like shit for laughing at your comment
@@cockoffgewgle4993 oof
Who else is here 12 years late?
I keep coming to this video
I love Stellan Skarsgård at 2:02, leaning forward like: This is going to be interesting.
omg I'm in tears lol.
"tell me more, Lars, tell me more"
That’s why Stellan is like in (almost) everyone of his movies.
1:24 “oooooh shit, he’s about to go there...”
Hes enjoying the fireworks 😂
"some wrong things"
Yeah like losing the war
@@harlock6737 damn straight! he's the reason we're in this bloody mess
@@ArnoldTohtFan at least we’re lucky it’s not a literal bloody mess anymore.
@@harlock6737 😂
@@harlock6737 lol wtf 😂
This is the best video I have ever seen in my life. I found it at 31 years old, having witnesses the birth of youtube… that’s really something.
When the teacher asks the question to the quiet nerdy boy sitting nexts to a beautiful girl
starting at 2:05 Dunst is thinking there goes my oscar nomination
LOOLLLLLLLLLLL
I’m surprised she didnt tell him to shut the f up and say my Oscar is on the line
It would be funnier if all the actors around him inched slowly away from him as he spoke.
🤣🤣🤣
that makes a lot of sense. i do think this impacted on her nomination potential.
This is probably the funniest video on RUclips.
His awkwardness and the way people don't get he's joking are very relatable for me. The way he tries to get his point across without being proficient enough at the English language and eventually gives up, accepting his ruined reputation, is the funniest thing in the universe because I could easily imagine myself being in such a situation.
Lateralyst his reputation wasn’t ruined , he’s a known troll
I don't know if it's the funniest for everyone, but it made me laugh in the day my father discovered I was on cocaine so hell yeah for me
Agreed, so horrible yet so funny
If he really was joking, this is hilarious, but without knowing anything about the guy I'm just very confused xD
edit: actually it was hilarious either way, whether he is a genius or a complete idiot
only a literal antisocial autist would think this is funny, and i dont even believe it's a joke. he goes on for 4 minutes, goes into such detail, and it's quite a serious forum. he's not on a comedian stage.
Perhaps the best part of this masterpeice is that the initial question had nothing to do with Jews or Nazis. He chose to go in this direction.
thats the best 4 mins of stand up u ever saw
I love how uncomfortable Kirsten Dunst gets at about the 2 minute mark
Cringe top ten.
