Hey Lee. That is a good question. They do have hook sizing charts and gauges out there that you can buy. Might be good to pick up one of those for a bit. Then with more time and experience you’ll be able to look at a fly and know exactly what size you’re dealing with. 👍🏽
Maybe you could talk about leaders for dry dropper rigs or duel nymph with indicators. It seems using the size of the fly doesn't take into account multi fly rigs. I have just simplified it down to a 7 foot 3x and that seems to work fine for multi fly rigs. Also if you use splitshot this could change your cast and effect your energy transfer transfer .
Good call. The principles are still the same. Heavier rig/multi fly rig… heavier tippet you’ll need. Just need a big enough tippet to make sure you have enough energy to turn it all over and make the cast. 😎🤙🏽
When you keep changing the leader, doesn't your flight line get shorter and shorter? Especially if your flight line has no loop. So how do you keep attaching the leader to the flight line???? Thanks for help!!!

Newbie here. Fishing on fly is such a rabbit hole, but y’all are making it significantly less intimidating to enter in. Easy sub!
Good stuff Alex!! Is there a way to tell what size your fly is if you don't know. Especially with flies with a wide gap or a 2x shank etc

What if i have both non wighted and wighted flys is there an inbtween?
Might be worth just trying the different sizes of tippet and seeing how it affects your presentation.

A lot of fly line has welded loops so no material will be cut from the fly line at all!
Easiest explanation out there!!
