Great channel. I turned my son who is brand new at fly fishing, to your guys. What i like is you dont take yourselves too serious...fun and informative. Plm
Well done! You two did a terrific job of giving us accurate visual aids to clarify size/shape/color. Thanks for breaking it down and not listening to that pompous trout snob at the beginning of the video. Keep it up!
Absolutely the best series / channel I have found. Clear, logical and entertainingly presented. Videos are perfect length as well. I floundered (pun intended) around with a lot of other channels, including some big name ones, and this is by far the best. I have learned so much as a noob. Truly lives up to the name master class
First video - thanks RUclips. Loved the intro and wish I would have discovered you when I was beginning. And remember as the ladies say... "size matters" 😉🎣. ☮ from Idaho.
I love this. "Learning the bugs" had been the most daunting aspect of fly fishing for me. I am finally starting to observe hatches. The mystery of matching the hatch has ME hooked! Thank you and Happiest of Holidays to you both.
Watched these videos for a week and went out the the first time and only caught 1 fish in 5 hrs, and today was my second time ever fly fishing, and I absolutely crushed. I truly lost count of how many bows and brookies I caught. Thank you for the great informative content👍
First rule of flyfishing: go fishing where there are fishes. 😂 Great channel guys, thx for sharing important suggestions with the right mood. Appreciated and subscribed, greetings from Italy.
Ive actually had the most success on rivers especially with high pressure using random flies with no rhyme or reason. Sometimes fish just like seeing different stuff! Thats why I like tying random, fun things. Love this video.
Your videos are really well done! I’m forty some odd and have been fishing all my life, but I love to watch fishing videos to see what else I can learn. I’ve definitely learned a few things from yours!
Thanks for all of the great info. I hadn’t picked up a fly rod in nearly 30 years. Since then the tail waters on the South Holston River here in East Tennessee have exploded with anglers. The trout have become super picky.
Definitely want to buy some gear for my appreciation for such good videos! Where can I get some sweet gear?? I do need a new jacket. Never mind, just ordered your 40 piece fly collection. Thanks for all the good info
Got my first fly rod 4 days ago and Ive been out for several hours every day since. Your videos have been extremely helpful for me to learn and I appreciate it so much Thank you
Love the videos, great content & good humour as well. As a new comer to fly fishing the videos have given me a better understanding to a great sport and a start to fly tying.
what are those hoodies you wear? Warm? I'm old and don't like cold but I don't like bulk. Could you share that info? I'm gonna have to watch this video multiple times but it is the best one I have seen. Great job!
They are Free Fly hoodies. They are nice for semi-cold days or a base layer. Not super warm for winter days. Their new fleece hoodies are pretty good too. Glad you enjoyed the video. 😎🤙🏽
Notes, midge flys imitated babys in the water, wet flys imitate a fly coming to the serfuce, so move it around to look alive, dry flies are flys leaving or aproching the water and sit on top, Find a fly the same size and color to the flys and bugs around your fishing, most important is size,
It seems the perfect fly isn't always perfect lol. Why do some flies attract a certain type of trout. I have some flies that will catch rainbows but not browns some that will only catch browns and some that will catch both. Rio Grande cutthroats in the small streams seem to eat anything. Why ?
Might be where they are hanging out in the water column (maybe the Rainbows are closer to the top and Browns near the bottom). Could be how opportunistic they are (Cutties are usually more likely to smack dries in our experience). Lots of factors (water temps, clarity, bug activity, etc) so it’s hard to say. 🤷🏽♂️
I normally get annoyed with cheesy intros wishing people would just get to the point of the video already, but c'mon, this one was freakin good. LOL!
Agree 100%

I just go a fly rod and these videos have helped me so much thank you
Stoked to hear it. Thanks so much for the feedback. Glad you are enjoying them.
This is why you guys rock! You didn't have to have the whole scene with the latin fly name stuff, but it just makes the video that much better!
Haha we had some fun with it. Appreciate the feedback Micah. Glad you enjoyed!
Very informative video. I've been fishing for over 65 years and I've found that I never get too old to learn. Thanks...
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for letting us know. 😎🤙🏽

Had to look up your location because you are spot on as if you were fishing northern Michigan.
amazing video, i have been fly fishing for a long time but i have learned something new today. thank you. love your hat man ! 👍👍
Stoked to hear it! Glad you found it helpful. What did you learn?

Very helpful.

Really good video. The links don't seem to work for the downloadable book. Can you check on those? Thanks.
I double checked them and they seem to be working. Not sure what happened. Try them again?
Great info, super helpful
You bet!

enjoying them all...take state class in fly tying end of next month, then "stuff" gets serious..
What is the song playing starting at 10:05 ? Pretty groovy little jam.
Hey Spencer - what brand/model chest pack is that you’re sportin’ on this video?
Just the Orvis chest pack. I switched to chest packs a while ago because they're better for my back pain than slings/vests.
Aren’t those midge patterns too big? I remember in my freshwater ecology class that we had to filter them out with a 100 micrometer mesh for the larva
Midges are tiny. But lucky for us the fish aren't as discerning as a 100 micrometer mesh net. haha
Notes, midge flys imitated babys in the water, wet flys imitate a fly coming to the serfuce, so move it around to look alive, dry flies are flys leaving or aproching the water and sit on top,
Find a fly the same size and color to the flys and bugs around your fishing, most important is size,
You nailed it! Thanks for the great insights. 😎🤙🏽
how to pick the right fly: Find one that nobody else is using, and make it smaller. -Provo River logic.
Not a bad tip…

Insects, not bugs. 😂
Sorry, I had to.
