I’m in the same boat with biscuits. Like it fresh out of the oven! But you made it from scratch and no oven. You amazed me. No more box biscuits. Thank you
i just sold my 3 kids off to the highest biter just kidding had 3 kids end up with 6 well i dont have to cook for an army anymore just moving into a 1 bedroom to cook for just me THANKS for the vid useing a cupcake pan can mold foil and bake it in an oven well thought id like to add a tad spoon butter buds wal mart friendly butter
You sound like us, we had three kids and guess we did something right as we produced two doctors and a lawyer. This resulted in ten grand kids and now five great grandkids and counting. Foe one biscuit in an oven, a tuna can works great as a baking pan. Works for small cakes too.
Hi Dancer, thanks for the comment but I thought that biscuit was about right. The one in the video was around number six or seven; getting the mix, time in the microwave and rest time right. Our microwave is 1000 watts and has a rotating base so you might have to make adjustments for your oven. Also, if you want a nice, brown top; pop it under the broiler for a couple minutes.
That's great. But, at the end, I would think, a couple minutes (or less) in the toaster-oven, will dry out the 'soggy', and maybe even give it a toast...
when making biscuits for 1 or 2 the less ingredients I found the better mostly for affordability purposes during hard times & stories from my parents & grandparents made it necessary for me to learn what people did during recessions & in my grandparents case the depression. This is a great recipe & very simple. I have been learning to keep things simple in the kitchen & keep everything whole food & during my lifetime i found the simpler the better. I dont use a microwave, I actually gave mine aaway & opted for the old way & I do use a small convection over as well. Less technology also the better. LOL Today I made cheddar biscuits for 1 it made 2 large biscuits using 2 % milke salted butter & self rising flour as a basic recipe & added in old cheddar. 10 minutes to prep & 10 minutes in a preheated 425 oven. Your recipe is just as simple & easy except I wont use a microwave lol Thanks for the video it was very enlightening :)
Do you not refridgetate your butter, Jim? My parents always left it out in a glass container, but I keep mine in the fridge...but it's so hard to spread haha.
My parents only kept one stick or one block (homemade) of butter on the table, at a time. The rest stayed in the refrigerator. Since butter was frequently added to various meals (biscuits, pancakes, molasses, etc.) with 7 in the family, it was used quickly. Mama had round glass butter dishes for homemade and traditional rectangular covered butter dishes for store-bought. Room temp butter is just about perfect for spreading & mixing.
Room temp butter, eggs, and meat is the best way to prepare foods. Never cook an egg cold, i pull mine at least an hour or 2 before cooking them. Also butter, theres no need to refrigerat it, if its covered. Have you heard of a butter bell? they work great! Good luck! 😉
Now for a slice of bacon and egg cooked your way. (ice cube ) A cup of cowboy coffee made in your blue enamel pot to finish that biscuit off. Hope you aren't having bad weather. God bless. Happy living and peaceful days filled with friendship! 😊
Mornin' to one of my favorite viewers. We had a whizzer come through but it split just before it hit our place and all we got was driving rain. Speaking of driving, it was blowing trucks and cars off the interstate as it went through, several big rigs on their sides. Destroyed something like a hundred airplanes at two airports it hit.
I live alone and I make an entire pan full of biscuits and after they have cooled a bit I put one or two in a sandwich bag and freeze them. When I want ONE biscuit I just take one out and stick it in the microwave for a few seconds. I can't tell the difference in this frozen and microwaved biscuit and one that is just out of the oven.
I laughed when you said it may not be the best looking biscuit in the world. I say who cares as long as it tastes good and is fresh the belly does not care what it looks like and this is not a beauty contest 🤣
You can put it in a nonstick.egg skillet a pad of butter and brown It both sides use the skillet to fry the egg, then add a piece of whale meat. Ha ha. Matt
The first problem would be making it retain the round, biscuit shape and I don't know how well it would rise. I did pop it under the broiler to brown the top surface once it was done in the microwave, that worked out just fine.
I just made one and it was excellent on my first try! Thanks for the video! Love your videos, great ideas for simple cooking, but they are about so much more. Have a great day, and keep them coming!
I wasn't as lucky, I made four of them before I shot the video, usually do that on all videos unless I know everything works. At least I can usually eat my mistakes.
Cowboy Jim can always find a way! I’m tempted to nickname you “Wishbone” 8-) BTW, I live alone, and when I make a pan of biscuits, I freeze them as soon as supper is over in a ziplock bag. Two frozen biscuits will microwave nicely in 1 minute, but you MUST put them on their edge (not top or bottom), or they will come out soggy. They are just like fresh baked. But, again, EDGE DOWN. BTW, you didn’t mean to say 1/2 teaspoon of salt in your all purpose flour for only 1 biscuit, did you? Sounds awful salty.
I noticed that WalMart has frozen biscuits but I doubt they will ever be popular. They are already partially baked and the instructions say to place in a pan on a counter top and allow to thaw for 45 minutes before putting them in a 400° oven for 10-12 minutes.
Use the muffin/bread button on your microwave. It's magical. Open the door and look on the bottom edge it will have multipress settings. The pizza buttton is just as magical. Melted cheese and the bread isn't hard!!
This is good, but you can also buy the bag of frozen biscuits and pull out just one throw the rest in the freezer and pop it in the oven. To save time. They are pretty good.
Ovation, I've used bagged frozen biscuits, too. In making the comparison don't forget to consider the 90 second baking time! If brown is wanted about a minute in a toaster oven would take care of that, too. I like this coffee mug concept, because I don't often eat biscuits. A bag of them would probably be out of date before I use them, just one at a time. Additionally, my microwave at 90 seconds takes far less power than my oven for a baking frozen biscuit.
Thank you!!! I've already shared your recipe with family members. FWIW, I'm in the same boat. One biscuit, once in a while, is enough for me. God Bless!
Mr. Foreman, when I was little my Aunt Lillian would make delicious biscuits and a cat head biscuit just for me. Enjoyed watching. Hello to Mrs. Foreman🌺
Great idea. Never knew this. Thanks Jim. How were the storms this morning over there? Godley got hit hard. Straight line winds just about blew our house over, neighbor's had parts of roof's blown off. Trees down, some on houses. The measured the winds here at 75 mph. Power was out from 4:30 this morning, till 5:30 this evening.
"The biscuits in the Army, they say are mighty fine One rolled off the table, and killed a friend of mine . . .." Great video! Thank you for sharing with us!
I think that saying goes back many years to when they served hard tack which is baked twice to get them fully cooked to where they won't mold. Biscuits in England means "twice baked".
Hello Jim. Just saw your "biscuit for one" recipe and immediately tried it. Worked great the first time and tasted great also with strawberry jam. Thanks a lot. No longer need to make two or more!.
Jim, I gotta have two biscuits always cuz I can't eat just one😅 Also, I like every kind of jam except jalapeno .😨 But I honestly can't remember being out of Smuckers Strawberry Jam. PS. I have a set of vintage cups that can be put in the oven "custard" I wonder if I can make biscuits in the oven? Yum. God Bless!😇
One day I saw my son standing at his 'fridge door looking at a jar in his hand, "Mango Guava, I wish I could convince my wife that I'm just a plain old grape jelly sort of guy." Those are usually called ramekins and they can be used in an oven just like a metal pan. Great way to make single biscuits, bread pudding or apple pies.
Before putting older cups in the microwave, one should test them for lead in the glaze. Pit it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and if it comes out hot, it should not be used in the microwave. Also, it will ruin any value as an antique, because it will "craze" the finish with microscopic cracks.
Absolutely, in fact I posted a video on this nearly ten years ago. It's an old trick I used when bicycle touring. A tuna can makes a great pan for cooking the biscuit. ruclips.net/video/YH1iatL56_w/видео.html
God Bless you also, Jim! What a wonderful little tip on one biscuit for those of us who only need one!
Thanks for sharing this great video!
You know, that single biscuit just fed many people.
I live alone and its hard to cook for one ,,,I will give this a try ,,,wish me luck

@@JimForeman why thank u
That's amazing I never thought about a microwave would do that lol.
Do you think I could put it in a regular oven?
😉👍'S UP
🇺🇸GOD BLESS MO.🇺🇸
About the only thing a microwave doesn't do is brown things. Of course, one could always pop it under the broiler for a quick browning.
I have three or four videos on making biscuits in a regular oven. It does take more time but they are great.
Im surprised that this recipe doesnt call for salt
Keeping it real, that biscuit is too doughy.

Handy to know. I'll pass that on to my bachelor son. Thank you very much.
Always a pleasure watching your videos Mr Jim.... Would love to see you whip up a batch of scones... If you have a recipe?

Sausage gravy is good also. Try honey and butter.
You can brush a little egg yolk on top and it will brown

Right but frozen biscuits run about 25¢ each where making them from scratch is about 5¢ each

What do you mean by "to kill the harshness of the baking powder"? And God bless YOU, Jim!
Too much can be a little bitter.
Baking powder is an acid and has a bitter taste, sugar kills it like it does the acidic taste in coffee or tea.
Now you have to show us how to make strawberry jam 😁
@@JimForeman 😂
Hey Jim, could you do that in the oven?
Absolutely, in fact I posted a video on this nearly ten years ago. It's an old trick I used when bicycle touring. A tuna can makes a great pan for cooking the biscuit. ruclips.net/video/YH1iatL56_w/видео.html
@@JimForeman , I'll give it a try, thanks!

Sue can and you can also use a Tuna can as the pan to go in the oven. Bake at 425° for about 20 minutes until it[s brown on top.
