      Yeah but not everything is a problem like forcing a kid to work out so they can get healthier but they’re lazy and they don’t want to and they drag their feet and they act like they’re being tortured every single time and it doesn’t change because of their behaviour andthese children are spoiled. What does that do? Does not give them a negative impact because they’re working out because they’re mindset is not in the right place.

The second I got the “obligatory learning” done and got the chance to study what I wanted, thinking became much clearer. At school I hated math problems, now I’m at a job that I love but all I do is stare at numbers. Agency, whether it be in learning, exercise or even treatment, makes such a huge difference in performance outcomes it’s unbelievable

    I used to work in elementary education and something I always noticed that was interesting is the second kids were given the opportunity, either at gym, recess or a special event like field day, they immediately started joyously running around as fast as they could, just having a blast doing it. Somewhere between early childhood and adulthood that desire to move freely and release energy gets stamped out. If you don’t break free from the conditioning, before you know it, you’re obese, addicted to fast food and stuck sitting in a cubical for 8 to 12 hours a day in a deep depression. The modern world is easier than it’s ever been in terms of survival, but it strikes right at your core and rips out your soul if you let it.

    Wanna know what the independent variable here is? Control!! When we make choices to lean into stress, we have chosen to control our own actions. When you are being forced to exercise, there is no control, so your brain internalizes it as trauma.

  • @hungrymusicwolf
    @hungrymusicwolf 7 месяцев назад +20

    Same thing with trauma therapy: voluntarily going to therapy allows you to heal, being forced to confront it against your will retraumatizes you.
    Same for therapy to overcome phobia's. Really probably most if not all things in life are better for you when done voluntarily and harm you when done involuntarily.
    Basically: don't force people to do things. It's bad for everyone.

      Well one thing I agree with goggins and huberman talked about this is that when we challenge ourselves to do hard/challenging tasks like exercising or other examples, it works part of our brain “anterior midcingulate cortex” which is responsible for helping us tackle onto challenging tasks. However Goggins doesn’t really understand motivation, he’s all about “mindset”, but mindset is like the software in a brain. You still have to take into consideration the Hardware/actual physical components of the brain

    Does this pertain to the following case then? I love yoga. I do some intense (by my standards) yoga vinyasa flow. For 90% of the practice I exert lots of effort physically and mentally, that's part of the practice. I want it and although it feels like I'm doing work and it feels painful in a way (as in "no pain, no gain"), afterwards I feel amazing. However, sometimes the teacher pushes us further and for those remaining 10% I feel I'm being forced to do something I don't want to do because it pushes me almost to the brink of my capabilities. It's only for 5 minutes maximum but at that time I feel almost angry at the teacher for doing it but I can't stop. Are those 10% of my yoga classes actually bad for me or not?

      I think so yes. It’s like work vs slavery.

    So wait, then what about forcing yourself out of bed, forcing yourself to do the exercises or work when u lack motivation? Cause we all here know we can't rely on motivation to do the things we're supposed to do!

      I would assume that it wouldn't be that bad since you are still in control. The rat was being forced and had no control. You are forcing yourself to do something but you are still the one in control

      @@MrSean737 yes, but it still probably means it does stress us right? But maybe we don't feel it cause once we finish it ,it gives us an amazing feeling, a dopamine rush for the sense of accomplishment!

    The Rodent forcing the other to exercise, did it know what it was doing and not care? Or was it oblivious? Maybe considered the other to be mimicking? 😂

    Now compare this to what he Huberman said about growing the willpower part of your brain. Does improving your willpower cause high blood pressure and other stress related issues? Or do you have to decide to want the stress to get the increased willpower?

    It's the same with work, you may enjoy your work but when some idiot manager is standing over you telling you how to do something you've been doing longer than him and telling you to do it faster than it can be done, it leads to stress and dead managers.

    If ppl did squats or something when theyre stressed we would need a lot less meds. We need to learn how pur bodies and minds work and schools never do that. They just breed mental illness and stress.
