Thank you Sajid, very well put and spoken Mashallah. Unfortunately muslim husbands take the Obey element too far. They violate their rights over wives to the point where they become abusive and extremely controlling which is damaging. This may have played a part in driving young muslim women to prioritise/seek a career path becus their mothers push this idea on to them havin experienced hardship themselves. As a muslim husband, i find that wives are naturally obedient and selfless if u are loving, kind and caring to them. Lets change our approach to attain the same thing but in a healthier and better way.

I feel like this needs to be said for the ladies and gentlemen in our ummah. A wife's obligation is to obey her husband but some men do take advantage of this and misuse this rule. I would gladly obey a good, pure intentioned, kind man who doesn't try to cut me short. But I won't obey a man with a sick agenda to use, abuse (mentally, physically, sexually) or a manipulator. Ladies please watch out for toxic behaviour, and men please have pure intentions, check your intentions so that there is no trauma or misuse of power (in the context of wife obeying husband). And most importantly, seek help through patience and prayer to Allah. May Allah grant us all kind hearted, pure intentioned, spouses whom we can depend on forever and rejoin in Jannah al-Firdaus. With all due respect, I think you are generalizing. I know many practicing sisters who did not fall for these 'ism'/social constructs and actually tried getting married. Marriage and staying married is a form of risq that Allah gives to whom He wills. Some get married young, and some get married older. Also, there is a marriage crisis in the Muslim community in the West. It is easy to assume all unmarried sisters are just "modern Muslim women" who are obsessed with their careers/education. This issue is nuance. Allah is aware of how many sisters struggle to get married to a practicing brother who can provide and be a great husband. On the flip side, I know sisters who got married young early 20s and are now divorce single mothers and struggle to support themselves. Allah tests us differently, and all we can do is be patient, take action (through prayer and supplication), and bettering ourselves. Some of us may never be parents or get married/remarried, and that is okay. Be content with Allah's decree, and may He reward all sisters who struggled getting married due to ageism, colourism, racism, or being a divorcee/widow/single mom. These are issues that brothers/dawah channels hardly ever address or try to fix. Although the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sunnah was to marry the widows, older women, single mothers, etc.

Asalamu alaikum, I agree with some of your points. No, I don’t disagree with anything in the Quran. Quran doesn’t say that I can’t work. Keep in mind that we are more than just mothers and wives. Being a mother, wife, and a professional are all my titles. I love being a mother and I enjoy that title, I take it very serious just like I take my deen serious.
Speaking on the issues of women’s rights according to the Quran is not feminism nor is it propaganda. Just a note, most Muslim men don’t want to admit that they have allowed their cultural beliefs of finances, abuse (physical and verbal) to over shadow the Islamic rights of the wife. Muslim men can try to blame Muslim women for everything, but Allah knows.
My husband knows his role and responsibilities, and I know mine, and he doesn’t mind me working as long as it doesn’t interfere with the kids time. There is nothing wrong with being able to support myself, and my kids with or without my husband. Too many woman are divorced, or widowed and left with nothing. My husband has no problem teaching things like changing a tire, minor plumbing, etc. He has the mental security of knowing that I can hold my own to a point. Women are put into a box of this is all you are, don’t speak, don’t think, don’t have an opinion or a personality.
I also love the idea that a women have an expiration date like a carton of milk, and that men are only looking for women to look like Barbies. We have eyes, we too want a spouse that is outwardly appealing. Men also have an expiration date, but we will leave that alone.
While everyone keeps overlooking issues of forced marriages, and physical abuse we will continue to have these conversations that men have deemed issues of feminist propaganda. A Muslim woman knowing her rights, being educated, and having a career is not feminism.

What about a Muslim woman who wants a career serving the needy, and children...is she worthless? Stop letting the stories of some Muslim women who regret their decisions be the stories for us all.
My husband once told me that keeping me in the house is like caging a bird. He knows that I am adventurous, I want to learn many skills, and go many places. Allhumdulillah that I have him in my life. I am not equal to my husband, but I am more than just a mother, and a wife. He understands that.

Do you pay 50% of the bills? You don't have to answer this question but if the answer is Yes then your husband's motivation for supporting your career aspirations is questionable. Working is fine and not the issue, but prioritizing a career over family time and hands on parenting is a major issue. I hope that you get to keep the money that you make and not be forced to use it to pay for your husband's responsibilities.

      MashaAllah sister.
I am so happy that there are women that think like you. What you said just lightened my heart after listening to this somewhat distressing talk. This man is talking from his own opinions and views and it has little to do with Islam and more to do with western traditionalist views by the looks of it. He clearly is unaware of what women go through all around the world. We need more women to speak like you bc I don't agree with feminism but I believe that Islam gave us rights and we should be proud of them and not listen to these men who haven't even talked to women about their views and struggles and think they have room to talk. My brother would never say things like this because we've discussed these things before. He knows what my sister and I have to face. He has actually sat down and listened to our problems (just like the companions of the prophet used to listen to the women's complaints). He isn't perfect but he is very considerate and he takes ownership of his mistakes rather than blaming women all the time and that is the kind of young man a Muslim family should be putting forth.

Put Islam aside for a moment. Even here in the west, this has been the case up until the last 40-50 years or so. No one hear is saying Islam is against women seeking education, or pursuing a career. What we are saying is if that pursuit of education and career is prioritized over getting married, and having children, then we as a civilization are lost. Men are not suited for housework, and women really are not suited to be the providers. Are there women that can provide better than men? Of course there are.....LOTS of them. that is not the point being made here. How is humanity going to last if all the women refuse to get married and have kids because they want to climb the corporate ladder?
This is not an argument and I am really not looking at anyone agreeing or disagreeing. Islam is based on laws set forth by our creator Allah and a devout Muslim puts these laws ahead of any man made ones. You don't have to agree, and Islam is not dependent on your agreement. Can a man learn to do housework, yes definitely. Can a woman learn to be the leader of the house, yes definitely. Can modern science now even change hormones in the human body so a man turns into a woman and visa versa, well we see that already.
I don't have to point out to anyone with senses how catastrophic this has been. You may see it as advancements in science, morality, etc, but from an Islamic perspective, this is cause of the many calamities the world is facing today.
Like I said earlier, you don't have to agree, and to be honest, if you are coming from your paradigm you will never agree. That's okay. But if you are a Muslim, you cannot have these ideologies.
To your last point that Islam is based on a 7th century sect leader. If you define close to 3 billion Muslims around the world as a sect, then so be it I am proud to be in that "sect". Also interestingly, for whatever reason, this "boredom" is also not uniform. Different people feel differently and they interpret the scripture that way. Also society keeps adjusting. We are motivated to he financially independent so that we do not get abused. Power abuse, physical abuse and emotional abuse are all side effects of being vulnerable to men. Submitting to men is not safe. Collectively men have to prove how safe and worthy they are of being the leader of the household. Women did not create feminism. Men who abused their power and were not safe to submit to have created it. We dream of comfort and love and luxury when we are at work. Men are not being source of comfort and love and luxury. They are a source of anxiety and fear. When we are independent financially we are saying to men "I do not need to depend on you so step up your game! Behave well! Don't abuse me, don't leave me at home waiting for you to come back. Don't give me this scary feeling... don't frighten me, don't play mind games, Dont be lazy, don't he addicted to football when I am there. Don't drive me mad, don't shape how my own family view me when you want to control me.... I can look after myself, let's see how good you are, show me what you've got and if I marry you and you abuse me, I can leave... I don't need you". I will also add "do not tell me I cannot do maths and give advice on architecture because I am female or that I cannot steer a business or that I should just be in the kitchen.. I am brainy too, these passions for electronics and technology and property management are in me too, I don't see why I must change my name to JK Rowling because I am female?" .... regardless of rights given Islam, we still have to wait to judgment day to get justice and we cannot wait that long, we are scared right now!

sajid. A woman being independent is a truly wonderful thing - not just for herself emotionally and financially, rather it’s something many religious and noble brothers admire and find attractive. A self sufficient woman know both the world and her responsibilities within Islam, she appreciates her husband if married, and can stand on her own two feet if she chooses a life of not being married, divorced or widowed.
I wish more brothers would come on these platforms promoting this rather than this rhetoric of “feminism got you sisters” the second any of them want to do normal thing like get a job, career, speak out of the real injustices of their male counterparts/husbands.
Men often gaslight women telling them what they they should be thinking and doing and this is a disgusting thing which I’ve seen happening more and more. Men seem threatened and insecure which is rather pathetic, and instead of being a strong man and standing by his wife or womenfolk he clutches at straws quoting “feminism”. No. No and no.
There seems to be a growing number of brothers, I’m not sure if you are one and I won’t judge you just based on this, that use the word “feminism” far too much and in places it doesn’t deserve.

There's no such thing as independent woman. We all are dependent on someone/something else in order to function efficiently as society.
Civilian depends on military/police for security. Pupil depends on teachers for education. Guy on street depends on ulama for knowledge & rulings.
Just admit the fact of what Allah swt has prescribed to us & we'll be able to live happily, InsyaAllah.

When a man does something great, it's because behind every strong man there's a strong woman, and when he does something wrong, it's because of toxic masculinity.
When a woman does something great, it's because she's a strong and independent woman, and when she does something wrong it's because men influenced and drove her to do it.
When a Sunnah involves something that benefits women, you'll see posts calling upon men to do it and rebuking those who don't (without stipulating that they have to do every Sunnah), but when it comes to something that might hurt a womans feelings, you'll see posts that say things like "some brothers are lazy with Sunan such as fasting mondays and thursdays but on the other hand they want to do Sunnah and marry a second wife!"
These statements are so engraved into people's minds that even so-called Muslim preachers are repeating them as if they were established Islamic principles and both brothers and sisters like and share it as a form of 'dawah'. A bitter example of how feminist indoctrination has caused the belittling of men - or even straightout men-bashing - and singing the praises of women to become equal to being a "just and enlightened Muslim" in the eyes of many.
    Wallaahul-musta'aan.

    • @crysw6281

I agree with this also, many people use the Prophet SAW's name in vain Astaghfirullah, and may Allah guide them, but you can not neglect that part of the Sunnah only because you don't think it fits you. It was reported by Aisha RA that the Prophet SAW would often help with the housework, and in his final Khutbah SAW he called Muslim men to be good to their women. I agree that some people who say this are hypocrites, but you shouldn't neglect this part of the Sunnah just because of these women. And Allah knows best.

Men have shunned from their roles and have been very lousy providers. They expect women to pay for themselves. Isn't it unfair to expect women to have nothing to support themselves. Education is necessary because what is a woman supposed to do when her husband leaves her? Or when she needs her own money. I understand that the family should be the main priority of a woman but to completely throw their careers away is a stupid move

Equal and 'the same' in this particular context isn't the same thing. Equality doesn't suggest that women and men are exactly the same, equality suggests fairness. For example, if we are two people performing the same work, with the same level of skill, let's be paid the same.

Many scholars are of the opinion that a woman can work so long as her husband agrees, and so long as the work is not in a mixed environment and in a safe place, and ofc if the work is halal. Men should not be paid more for doing the same work as a woman does, verily we are equal in the eyes of Allah. And Allah knows best.

The issue is for practising sisters (in the west) is finding a man who prays his 5 daily prayers! Unfortunately this is very rare today and why a lot of sisters are finding it difficult to get married etc.
As for education / career, I personally work remotely as I want to homeschool my children (in the future when I have them إن شاء الله ) but I don’t think it’s wrong for women (especially today) to want to have an education or career (so as long as it doesn’t compromise on their Islamic obligations I.e. working remotely, starting their own business etc) especially when men are leaving their wives left, right and centre (today) for the next available woman!
I agree with the feminism aspect- it’s completely unislamic and unfortunately a lot of sisters fall into this category!
I hope you understand this from a sisters perspective and I hope I didn’t offend you in anyway brother!

So many sisters especially reverts have the imam or some random guy be a mahram who has no connection or real care for the sisters well being. These fast food nikahs then get worse when the mahram never sees the family again because he was just brought in to make it "halal". The sister often times is then abused or quickly divorced and since she was a revert has no way to get he rights or find protection.

I myself have seen the effects of muslim women pursuing a career in my own country-Free mixing, being in a secluded position with the opposite gender and haram relationships. No matter how much we say that we won't fall into these things, we will always fall into these things naturally as we are with each other constantly and our own desire to fit in and be considered socially acceptable will prevail over everything.
Second thing that I have experienced is working or studying constantly with females is difficult as our desires take over and accidental haram glances and touch always happens. God only knows how many sins we are stacking up daily as it is almost unavoidable in todays universities and workforce.

I’m sorry brother but you are generalizing. I am a woman of 35 years old with four children and I’m in the midst of divorcing after a marriage of 14 years. I married my husband when I was 21 years old. It didn’t work out unfortunately. I started practicing Islam at the age of 19 years old. I never was this ‘modern’ girl who wanted a carrier and so called ‘freedom’.
So what you’re saying is that someone like me can’t marry easily again due to my age or because I’m not as attractive as a 20-year-old. Only Allah gets to decide whether I get married again or not. No I’m not attractive as I used to be, but I have my Deen alhamdoelilah. I’m a practicing Muslima alhamdoelilah and I ask Allah to help me find a spouse, that doesn’t judge me for my looks only but rather looks at the complete picture. I get what you’re saying and agree with most of the things you’re saying. I just don’t agree when you say, that older woman have limited changes of getting married again because of their looks or age. Nowadays you see a lot of young woman that can’t get married and that’s not because they are feminists.
Our prophet Mohammed alayhie salam married khadija who was 40 years old. A lot of men don’t look beyond looks and age unfortunately!

There is a great deal more that could be said about this topic. How would a practice that dramatically improves a man's health when applied to a woman destroys the body the psyche the mind? The scientific Community studied males and assumed we were the same and are finding out but don't know why we are dramatically different. Let's honor and respect the way Allah made us!

As a single muslimah who is striving in way of the straight path, I am honestly afraid of getting married. I know of a man who doesn't even pay zakatul fitrah for his wife. I know of another who refused to give his wife nafkah such that she had to go to her parents for money. He wouldn't even wake her up when she overslept and missed fajr. When she questioned why didn't he wake her up, he said everyone has to take care of their islamic duties individually. Here we were thinking marriage is for the man and woman to remind each other in having taqwa. And I can give more examples.
These men are the same ones who grow beards, pray 5x a day, give dawah and regularly go to the masjid.
Why is this is the case that seemingly pious men who talk of Quran and Sunnah behave this way towards their women? You will find many shaikh and ustadh preaching that wives need to obey their husbands, but don't speak on what is owed to the wife.
Even in the islamic marriage preparatory course that my sister attended, the brother giving the lecture said that women should not be angry with their husbands when they ogle other women because "that's just what men do". But weren't both the believing men and women told to lower their gaze? What is a woman to do when the leaders of islamic education have become almost biased in what they teach?

Why keep saying that the man marries a women for her physic when the prophet (swc) says to marries a women for her akhlaq and deen?

      Wait
Prophet told marry the one who is religious, what this means is:
First we should check if she is religious, then check if she is beautiful
There are numerous hadith which says to go and look at women before marriage so that ATTRACTION AN LOVE increases
Even the prophet Muhammad when a woman presented herself to marriage, he looked at her carefully and CHECKED HER
      So beauty is important
