The fake vanilla extract is the key ingredient. Nothing else works because the solutions are all water-based and do not address the oil. Imitation vanilla extract contains large amounts of food-safe emulsifier, which binds fats to water (whereas real vanilla extract would use alcohol emulsifiers and then let the spirits escape to leave only the vanilla flavor and water - time consuming!)
Citrus oil is great for removing oils and other hydrophobics: distilled and bottled they sell it as glass cleaner and Goo Gone. (Disclaimer: do not use Goo Gone or glass cleaner in your cooking.) But it is an oil. By simmering it with emulsifier, you're delivering it to the oil coating your kitchen walls, effectively scrubbing them with degreaser.
Good hack, checks out! For more lemon-grassy scents you could try some real, high quality orange extract... But for likely less than $5, this hack is king.

Been doing this for years, instead of just cinnamon, I use a couple of cider spice packs instead, inexpensive, and smell great, along with oranges, lemons and the vanilla!!! Been my go to for many, many years now!!!!!

I just got done watching her video and I'm like thank God she's a miracle worker she truly is I boiled some water I added ground cinnamon vanilla extract and brown sugar and the whole apartment smells so good I was like wow thank you so very much for making this video for all of us

Cloves, cinnamon, apples, oranges and lemons, but with bad smells like fish I alway's cut a few onions in half they seem to purify the air and no fishy smells the next morning.
I have heard that onion will absorb smells which is why not store half an onion in the fridge as "Bacteria contaminate onions once exposed and if they are left as it is, they may get oxidized further leading to a host of health problems." :( But for absorbing smells great. Thanks.

I don't do this all the time. Mostly when I fry something in the house. And I use it over and over as long as it smells nice.
I rented a room and person cooked in there and we painted n clean and all and nothing works smell still there I’m gonna give this a try and let it sit in there hoping the walls would absorb this , if anyone has any other tips pls share

Fabric softener? Do you mean to simmer it or mop the home? Funny, because my mom adds fabric softener to her mop for that extra fresh smell. I never use it for my laundry and never have any on hand...
Mix softener with water and then bring it to boil on low heat. Your house will smell very nice. I mean softener that you use for clothes.

Industrially processed refined grain, legume and seed oils, mislabelled as vegetable oils, smell bad because they ARE bad; their odour is nauseating.
Fry in traditional fats.
