Iwona Blechachech (sorry about the spelling) did a whole report to the Polish transport authorities years ago. Some of the conditions she highlighted were absolutely horrendous. She still has to shower in the men's showers sometimes, but it seems that overall conditions have improved somewhat. Perhaps the UK has some catching up to do. The conditions for visiting drivers were made worse by some companies refusing the use of their on site facilities during Covid. Hayley is brutally honest in admitting that the class 1 work is not what she expected. However she is sticking at it towards another end. How could you possibly not want improved conditions? Even if only 10% of facilities are improved as a result of the current campaign, that has to be a step in the right direction hasn't it?

I drove hgv for close on 30 years, did night outs in day cabs (not the best idea )at the start but it was what the job was, I did it because I loved the job, finished with HGV then drove for fruit and veg delivery then meat delivery, now am 66 delivering for Sainsbury's home delivery,I could have found better jobs but wouldn't have been the job I enjoyed, so if it doesn't suit you just find another job there's plenty out there at the minute, keep on trucking 😀

Deady, hope you're well brother. I'm from your neck of the woods (Warrington). Currently working towards getting my HGV licence and recently came accross your channel. Just want to say, this video and all your videos are brilliant. Absolutely agree 100% with everything you highlighted. Granted, no job is perfect, no service station is perfect but IMO there really isn't much to moan about. I think the grass is always greener, that's one thing I've learnt in my life and I've done a lot of different jobs (customer serivce, delivery driver, removals, warehouse, teaching, office admin). It's human nature to think about changing career when you have a bad day but it's crucial to take the rough with the smooth. HGV drivers do work long hours, they do have stressful days, difficult situations and so on but there's so many drivers I know that love the job and say it's the best decision they ever made. Put the hours and work in and you can make fantastic money, especially as you progress with more experience. No job is easy but most people are lucky enough to choose any career they want here in the western world. If you don't enjoy it, find something else. But unless you win the lottery or inherit a fortune, you're going to have to work hard. Hope to see you back on YT soon with a new video. All the best!

Great video, personally I go to a supermarket before getting in the truck and try buying enough food to last me along with food preped at home to cut down on the unhealthy choices at services.
Some could be done with having more parking spaces but I do understand that sometimes it's not possible but there is also a need for more services north of Glasgow in Scotland as the further north you go there is a lack of facilities for drivers never really found that problem in England but still wouldn't park in them due to cost layby or industrial estate for me

    • @Referee001uk

A9 north bound... you’ve got a small number of parking spaces at Broxden services in Perth... then lay-bys... then some spaces at Inverness... then some spaces at Tore and Dingwall! Then it’s just lay-bys or supermarkets

I get a different truck every day so i cant even leave stuff in the truck, now as an ex squaddie i can roughe it but why there is no need , just better management and using time better is all it will take i think.

Deady I am with you on this, the majority of truck drivers do it because it is easy work and like us haven’t grafted before.. I don’t have the best school grades etc and have had factory after factory jobs while growing up until eventually had enough of shit jobs. Went into the raf which looks good on my c.v then bettered myself as a machinist which then could afford my class 2 license and the work is a peace of Piss.. I do 2 nights out a week and most weeks do 4 days work sitting on my arse which is why most get fat and make bad choices with food! I prep my food like you do and have a cheap Amazon food warmer.. when I eat out luckily they pay mine £30 a night food money so I go nandos twice a week and get chciken and rice because like you I work out lifting heavy weights when I’m home in the week! Breakfast I go subway and get a salad.. that is my treats for the week.. could quite easily eat kfc and burger king like the rest of them and wonder why I can’t see my todge anymore… the same could happen sat in a job at a desk etc and does it’s the choices you chose to make yourself. The services are fine to dump your a hole and go.. I personally think the older generation don’t want younger generation to join the industry… Theyer forgetting when they retire they will need someone to supply there essentials tho! It’s a good job and have my class 1 booked in very very soon! Looking at starting at Hermes to gain experience as know lads in there.. and it’s a stone throw from where my house is in Warrington

I'm revisiting this as a long time can of yours. I've been a tramper for 5 years, the company I work for provide a fridge and a microwave in every truck. Frankly I wouldn't work for a place that didn't provide these. If you accept shit, expect shit. They also pay for our parking, now notwithstanding the fact that we have an account with snap and every other services. Again another thing if I'm tramping I won't accept. If the company doesn't pay parking, I won't work there. If they don't pay your breaks, I won't work there.
I know drivers who have 25 years experience over me who can't do a manual entry, call the office and ask them to find them parking. This isn't a hand holding job, you have to be self sufficient and have some initiative if you're going to be a tramper. If you can't plan your day, plan your stops, plan your meals for God's sake, why on earth should you be so highly regarded.
Are some services worse than others? Absolutely, but ultimately it is YOUR choice where you park, YOUR choice who you work for and YOUR choice what you eat. And if you choose to eat KFC or Burger King every night then go for it, but you'll be very fat and very poor very quickly.

My only issue that i have with services near me (northern ireland) is that some rural places closed their facilities during lockdown to “help reduce the spread of covid” they just couldn’t be arsed to clean them twice a day. But even now as we come out of lockdown they still close them for the same reason. Just right now i was denied use of a toilet to pee. Im not even a messy guy i clean up after myself.

I too am a Class 1 HGV driver. I'm not new to the industry, had my licence since '98. I'm also ex- military (14 years), I believe Deady is ex military too, how long he served, I've no idea.
I follow a few Vloggers, Trucker Hayley, Luke C and Kevtee and more recently Deady2012. However, over the last few months I've noticed Deady's attitude has got worse and found him very opinionated, rude, insulting and generally unpleasant to watch. As a consequence, I have unsubscribed and no longer follow Deady.
Listen Deady, you can think what you like and I don't care what you say to me but I do think you should firstly, apologise to Trucker Hayley. Secondly, I think you should back away from RUclips for a while as I think your gonna get more haters than likers and that kind of defeats the object of vlogging on RUclips.
You're subject matter was great in the beginning but quickly I found you to be very much in love with yourself and quick to shoot people down for having an opinion that's different to yours.
No-one gives a toss about your workouts in the gym and it's not relevant to trucking.
I think you could be a good RUclipsr and being comfortable in front of a camera talking about what you do at work is good inspiration for others wanting to come to the haulage industry but I think you've taken your eye off the ball fella and you concentrate on too much insignificant content and your way to quick to pass judgement on others.
Listen to what others are telling you and you might learn something. Right now, your attitude stinks and you're hard to watch.
Best of luck for the future.

Gary. I could tell you a few stories about roundabouts . Bear in mind , what you consider " bullying" at a roundabout , a lot is to do with car drivers not indicating and so we have to make a judgement. It is not easy stopping a 44 ton load without having to break harshly with all its consequencies. We like to keep up the momemtum.
How many times have I had to break and pallets or 50 litre drums of chemicals have toppled over , somtimes resulting in a refusal to accept goods , let alone the extra time required to attempt to re-stack it all. So when you are at a roundabout next time bear this in mind and please give us priority. This really should be taught when you are taking the driving test theory.
As for speeding. I am not condoning it but such are the pressures we drivers can be under. What pressures are car drivers under when they hit a tree at 80mph on a Saturday night? We share the road but not the same responibilities.

Not going into Deady vs Hayley topic here. But about facilities. I've been working for last 17 years or so. In many factories, warehouses, workshops, airports, offices or wherever you work at, the facilities are always nowhere near what we have at home. There's often some blocked toilets or piss on the floor, not flushed and rubbish here and there. Food.. usually there's no more than a vending machine, kettle and a microwave. If you are lucky there's a canteen with average food. While I'm not saying that the conditions shouldn't be better, but I don't know why drivers should have it better than any other worker? Why cant you prepare food yourself day before? All I can think of is, because HGV is a hot in media, anything about it will sell well at the moment so yeah, they are just looking for anything controversial... That's all. And also, one more thing, in recent years people be complaining about literally everything. Don't like your job, or working conditions, stop moaning and go find something else. It's simple as that. Peace

The problem with services is that they are privately owned and private land so you go from public road to private land , services do not want trucks they want coaches with passengers that spend money, all services connected to a motorway should be nationalized and more land made available for trucks . This is the time to make things better for drivers ,as its been so bad in the past any improvement is better than non , towns should make provision for trucks to park ,as your town council what parking is avalible for trucks .

  • @craigoneill4504
    @craigoneill4504 2 года назад +25

I've was a haulier for many years, owned a small fleet of trucks which provided traction for a large logistics company here in Ireland for most of the time whilst we were operational, sadly we ceased trading a while back. We used to work from Ireland to the UK & the continent & always found the services in the UK to be clean & value for money. On mainland Europe yes they had much better services but they also had more vehicles & with that more money. The main sh!tholes were the giant RDC's tbh, they were always awful places. Staffed by overworked bored people who didn't want to be there any more than the truck drivers. Zero facilities for anybody including the staff who worked there. That was the same on the continent too for clarity!
What absolutely killed the transport industry was the influx of very cheap underpaid labour drivers who came from countries where they had a really tough difficult life & were happy just to work for more money than they could earn in their own countries. They provided the ability to lower the standards & wages for large corporations & struggling hauliers who then paid less wages to any drivers including UK & European drivers. The rates went down, hence the wages went down, the prices of goods went down. A race to the bottom. Now these 'cheap' drivers have gone home, not to return having made some money, and the companies have been left with a gaping deficit of cheap drivers.
Wages are going back up, they have no choice really, who would want to work for 3rd world country wages nowadays?! Hopefully, standards will rise in the corporations, as they are the main leaders in wage progression & rates as they have the biggest slice of the pie usually. There have always been great employers in the transport industry, they are unfortunately overshadowed by the cowboys who ruin it for the rest, as they are the ones who claim the media attention & annoyance of the general public, who in turn think of the transport industry as a whole as bad, which it isn't.
I do think the transport industry needs an overhaul for sure, but it is at its core still a solid enjoyable industry with great benefits for those who suit it. I travelled to every country in the EU & beyond as a driver, saw places I could never hope to visit in a normal working environment, made some great friends. Every job has its downside, & the grass is always greener on the other side, I know I've been on both sides! But as a whole, transport is exciting & interesting to certain people, it always will be no matter what the wages & circumstances are, let's hope it learns from its mistakes & progresses into a more equitable place of work that is also respected by others. Drivers are professionals, it's a difficult job which most people can't do, but is incredibly enjoyable too when the conditions are correct.
Drive on my friends, keep her lit!

Yet again another classic video from a chap who actually does the job and enjoys it, and says it how it is, well done Deady, there are problems in logistics, that need addressing like hours of work and delivery places not allowing drivers to use the toilets or get food, but theyre outside the control of the driver, whats needed is the management of the drivers to put pressure on the depots and places they deliver to to make better facilities, but unlikely to happen as its down to cost.
As for dirty toilets etc, people need to visit some public toilets and ones at railway stations, liverpool lime street is a classic one of soaking wet floors and dirty sinks, as for the cost of parking it should be free for 24 hours for lgv,s and chargeable after to stop companies dropping trucks off and leaving them there for storage.
Finally if drivers hate the job so much get ANOTHER JOB, dont put your negative feelings out there as they multiply like germs and it makes all drivers look like complaining moaners, be constructive, ask mangement to support you, if youre not happy and show them Deadys vids.

There has been a steady decline over the last 20 years with road side cafes booted off by councils out of laybys. Parking spaces have been replaced by making dual carriageways into motorways. Price of parking at services is shocking and I have done mostly European tramping and it's far superior to UK facilities so why can't we up our game and have the same facilities. Deady normally talks sense but on this topic he is out of his depth and needs to go abroad and compare their services and routier's not just go to his nearest services which I will admit looked good but compare it to Toddington services and Maidstone as well or others. The facilities could be so much better with toilet facilities in laybys and also use the park n ride car parks which seem so empty.

RDC staff are part of the problem, treat drivers like something you scrape off your shoe. One supermarket company, would keep you waiting up to 8 hours while checking a tip from one of their own rdc’s, so I used to leave them to others, and only go on a Sunday when it was double time, but now it seems the haulage operators and agencies have squeezed 1.5 time for over time and double time on Sundays out to keep the rates down.
Weekends now look to be 1 or 2 pounds an hour more, with no overtime payments. It’s all about screwing the drivers. Always was, and always will be.

Your drug taking, supplements and gym obsession, the constant sex talk, misogyny, homophobic comments and these rants are all signs of someone deeply unhappy in themselves and in need of help.
Hayley can hold her head high that shes done nothing wrong, bullies like Deady just like to focus on others in a desperate attempt to take the focus away from themselves and their own mess.
Sadly I think that we’re going to slowly watch Deady decline further and I’m genuinely worried just how bad he’s going to get before he either gets helps or crashes and burns. Let’s hope those drugs don’t lead to a serious accident - no innocent people should be hurt by your behaviour choices.
