This juicer is from the early 1950s and in the style of the Atomic Age. It looks like it came right out of the Jetsons. The top of the juicer was badly frosted with scratches and took a long time to make it look nice again. In the process, I sanded/polished though most of the original chrome - because of this, I’ll never be able to get it to a mirror finish. I got close though.

I'm still getting pearl clutchers angry with my museum comment.
I think your comment helped make that video what it is :)
@@StevensFix I should really take a picture of my degree in response to all the people who keep commenting "lol no ur not" who don't believe I do what I do.
It's generally good practice to not feed trolls 👍
Which comment? I don't see it.
“Tastes like orange juice, and metal polish, and rust” 😂😂 made my day Great restoration!
😂🤣😂
Took the words right out of my mouth 😂
Hi Boricuacv
! Thanks for your nice comment. I really appreciate it. I'm glad that you like the humor that I tried to put in this restoration. Cheers! :)
I wouldn’t have drunk anything out of that!
Yup, still laughing about that, two hours later.
This guy is adorable it's like going back in time and seeing this gorgeous young man in his workshop able to restore and repair anything he touches
Hi Gab P! I'm adorable? Young man? Are you sure we're watching the same video? LOL! Cheers! :)
Steven's Fix "I'm adorable? Young man?"
That's me when I try to imagine what you look like...❤️❤️❤️...😂😂😂...Thank you for the great video! 😊
(Ohhh,wait...I just saw your RUclips Channel Profile Photo....😂😂😂...I would say handsome and handsome...😊😊😊...)
I hope you're having a a great day/night!
We had this juicer when I was a kid. Thanks for the memories. 🙂
Hi cynda99! That's a great memory! Thank you for sharing. I know it's doubtful, but imagine it *was* the one from when you were a kid! Cheers :)
@@StevensFix then you need to send it to me right away!! 😁
Awesome that you actually spoke at the end. It made your one liner extremely funny! Haha awesome vid.
A lot of Fallout fans would be interested in that! And I’m one of them
Hey that's awesome! I added Fallout to the video's tags. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers! :)
Wow!!! You are a magician! Or a miracle worker!!! That is amazing. I never thought you could renew the chrome/metal like that. Came across this because I would like a juice o mat and I wondered about repainting it if I do get one. But this was a zillion times greater than I could imagine for restoration. You, are a patient man! That was just BEAUTIFUL! I would love that for my limes and lemons. I know this was three years ago, but congrats on a job more than well done!!!
Thank you for this really kind comment, it made my morning
The turquoise looks period correct and much nicer than the white. I like it, well done, Steven!
Hi Frederic Lynes! Thank you for your comment! Great to see you back! I like the color too - although, I was trying to go for a bit more of a Robin's Egg Blue - but this was the closest color that I could find that was also period accurate. Cheers! :)
It is harder to squeeze oranges now than it was in 1948 because orange had thinner skins then. The orange you used was bred, if that is the correct word, to have thick skin so that they are less likely to be damaged during shipping. I learned this at the Sarasota County Fair years ago. People only drank a tiny "juice" glass of orange juice every morning. Now, we drink processed orange juice in big glasses. In 1948, orange juice was squeezed from real oranges before breakfast. Love the video and your channel.
Hi Ginene Nagel! Thank you for your comment! There's a bunch of great information in your comment and I think you are very right about the oranges being thicker. Thank you for loving this channel, I'll try and make some more great videos for you. Cheers! :)
I still do, taste so much better!
He's not gonna dri... He drank the whole thing! Ok! 😂
Hi Wayne Ballard! Thank you for your comment. Yes I drank it. I also had the taste of rust in my mouth for days! Cheers! :)
@@StevensFix hahaha, hey, but it looked good! Can't wait for your next video! 🤙
My wife has this juicer that belonged to her grandmother. My wife is almost 60 and our juicer is in almost perfect condition. Just used it for the first time in 5 years!.
I used this same juicer when I was at grandmothers house in Redding CA. This gave me some great memories. Thank you for this video. Im now looking for one.
My mother-in-law gave me the same juicer in the box! She received it as a wedding present. Mine is not painted but has a chrome finish. She always used frozen juice and having 9 kids I think that was the easier option. I use it often, when I find small orange are on sale. Large ones are hard to process, the navel oranges have thick peels also making it difficult. I did grease it with a food grade lub made for kitchen tools. Thank you for the video, I found it very helpful. I will get my dremil out for a deep clean and lub next time.
Thank you for sharing
Steven, everything you have restored on your channel are just plain COOL ANTIQUES, with CHARACTER and VALUE worth PRESERVING for everyone to see...NICE WORK, and...KEEP IT UP! (And the pearl-clutchers can go kiss bricks.)
I love your sense of history! That's a great video.
Love the choice of couler for the base! Great job!!!
Hi Michel Tremblay! Thank you for your comment. I really like the color of the base too! I think it came out really great. Cheers! :)
Nice restoration! It's weird, I have a thing for kitchen appliances from the 50s to 70s. They just have a look to them.
Perfect restoration!! I use this same one. Just cut the orange into smaller sections 💜
LOL that bit at the end. You're funny!!
Wow it's a pretty little thing, I have that juicer in white and silver. God is it in terrible shape but it has years of wonderful use and still using it today . Great video!!🍊🍋🍊
I am definitely telling Mrs. Fix lol.
Hi Justin Pierre-Marshall! Thank you for your comment. You are not allowed to tell Mrs Fix. Cheers! :)
This was great 👍 I would love to see some more videos.
Believe it or not a good mechanical juicer is hard to find, it’s always too big or too small! Great job, it looks fabulous and I would love that on my counter next to my smoothie mixer!
Hi! Thank you for this wonderful comment. I'm not sure how many oranges I'll be squeezing with this so who knows, maybe one day it will be on your counter! Cheers! :)
I have this same one but in copper, when did they make them like that?
I think Mrs. Fix will know what you did in that oven the second she walks in the house. Keep working on lighting. You'll get it. I have problems with that myself. =) So darned hard, that lighting. I just LOVE the color you chose. I'm not a juice fan either but it sure is a good looking piece.
Hi! In all honesty I had to fess up right away when she came home. The kitchen had a nice chemical odour for a day or two. On a side note, Mrs. Fix always asks 'did that renovation lady comment on any of your videos?' so I'll be glad to tell her that your here. Thanks for being a wonderful supporter of this channel. Cheers! :)
@@StevensFix lol. You are welcome. I'm enjoying it.
@@StevensFix Yeah, I got caught too. I was making a european skull mount with our large canning pot. It took a lot longer than I expected to simmer the whole head as it was still frozen. You should have seen her face when she saw that rack sticking out of the pot. She was relieved to know that I wasn't preparing dinner. The next two were done out side.
Nice job mate came out good at the end and good color choice.👍
Hi! Thank you for your nice comment. I really appreciate it. Coming from a fellow restorer like you it means a lot. Cheers! :)
@@StevensFix no worries see u on the next one.
Don't touch it with bare fingers after you've acetoned it. the oil on your skin can cause deep rust under the paint later and cause imperfections in the coat as well. Nice restore! i love it.
Dude it's awesome bro, I have the same one in line to be restored too. Love the color choice too.
Very good restoration bro 👍👍👍
Hi Кошмар Кошмар! Another kind comment. Thank you! You're becoming a superfan! Cheers! :)
I think this is your best video yet. I'm glad to see the return of the big knife. Also, neat trick with the magnet. Do you think maybe using smaller oranges could've helped? It seems like the orange you use was getting in the way of the top closing down fully.
Hi! Thank you superfan for your comment. You're 100% right. I should have used smaller oranges. When I bought them I worried more about what would look good on camera and not enough about what would actually fit in the juicer. Cheers! :)
Just found your channel, bloody fascinating mate and a cracking good job on restoring items like this. Have subscribed 😁
Nice work. Very nice finish. The lighting was good. Overhead circle led lights might help.
Hi! Thanks, I appreciate the nice comments. The LED ring lamp is on my Amazon wish list. One day I'll get it. I think overall I need to install some good shop lights. Cheers! :)
Oranges were smaller back then. Beautiful job!
Juice oranges have a much thinner skin and way more juice. Nice job!
Hi Freethought! Thank you for your comment! You're right, when I bought these I thought that big, fat oranges would look better for the camera and my giant knife. Should have got juice oranges. Cheers!
this is AMAZING! I just bought one that I wanted to restore and needed to see if someone else had done it before.
what spray paint did you use for this?
Rustoleum
Wow.. for a sip of orange that was worth it :p.. thumb's up.
Hi Bob Ajaj! Thank you for your comment! Now if only that orange juice didn't taste like metal polish. 😜
Nice work - great video
Hi Bevan Ward! Thank you for that, I really appreciate you taking the time to write that comment. Cheers! :)
Beautiful Work!
Hey, I love your videos
Looks very cute! I see you rcvd your vitamin c as well as your iron and rust for the day...
I have one that is 66 years old and looks bran new. Always cleaned in , and it is easy to use buster
It sounds lovely
Thanks! Great idea for a project to work on during this COVID-19 pandemic.
Anyone know what kind of paint/color used? Gorgeous!! 😍
I lịke you !
You're number one.
Thank you.
Nice job!
Hi Sally Ebsworth! Thank you for this comment. I'm glad you liked the end result. Cheers! :)
Nice work, I'd suggest putting it in the dishwasher to remove that metal polish/rust taste. That Autosol is brilliant on metal, but I don't think you want to be drinking it hehe
Appreciate the time stamp, thanks :)
Hi! I'm glad you liked the video and the timestamp. Seeing me jabber on isn't everyone's cup of tea. The autosol wasn't that bad, the rust from the knife left a taste that mouthwash couldn't get rid of! Cheers! :)
It's funny, at the beginning I thought the light/dust was some kind of filter or effect you had added in post production. It's a cool look, IMO.
Hi laserfloyd! Thank you for your comment! Awesome effect - bad for the lungs 😄 Cheers!
So shiny I almost seen my own reflection 😂
Syeven, what particular paint did you use on the parts and then baked? Would love to do this with my Juicer and Ice-o-Mat!! Great video and thank you for sharing.
Rustoleum spray paint
What kind of metal polish did you use on the aluminum juice catcher that was so t
oxidized? Although you need to polish it up, and I need to get mine better-looking, do you think this polish is what made the orange juice taste so bad? In other words, the juice o matic looks better having been metal polished but it puts a taste into the juice that touches the juice catcher. What is the name of the polish you used for the oxidized juice catcher, but I am a little hesitant to use it if it affects the juice's taste. What do you think?
Hi Skaytn! Thank you for your comment! The polish I used is called Autosol. But any good chrome/aluminum polish should work. The reason for the bad taste was that I didn't wash it before using it to make orange juice. Had I washed it, it would have been fine. Also, the metal - as I found out - is not dishwasher safe. So be careful after you restore your juicer to only ever wash it by hand. Cheers!
Hi. You used Autosol for the middle two pieces? Is that a buffing wheel you used to get the shine?
I don't understand, first you clean surface with acetone and then you touch surface without gloves?
What is the container made of. I have the same one I bought at a yard sale. You've motivated me to restore, but I haven't used for juice yet because every time I wash, it continues to leave a metal/ black residue... Is there something that will stop this from happening?
Brilliant! and you don't really like orange juice, pissing meself laughing.
Hi Kevin Foster! Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you liked the project and the humor I added into it. Cheers! :)
That isn't a juicer. It's a mini gym equipment! 🤣🤣🤣
Great job!!!! So I recently aquired one and would likento restore as well for use. Im having a difficult time confirming what material the cup and cone are made of. I am assuming cast aluminum. Is this correct? I asl be asue cast aluminum commonly had lead in it amd my son is itching to use it. What are your thoughts?
It is cast aluminum. It probably doesn’t have lead but if you’re concerned there are lead testing kits you can get where you rub the item with a marker like device and if it changes colour it has lead.
13:30 your left hand only has 3 fingers. 😀Very cool idea digging up the patent.
I had to go look to see what you mean and yup, three fingers. Its that darn knife from the end! Glad you liked the patent information. I'll try and do more of that kind of thing in the future. Cheers! :)
Hey Man🙂
Turned out very nice, a lot of elbow grease went into this project.
I noticed one of your screen texts said you could be working on a file/knife conversion.
Is that what you have decided to do with the old file?
Was good to see a video of yours again...I am a little behind on them.
Take care🙂
Hi Tim 57! Thank you for your comment! I just found that I didn't respond to this - sorry about that. I'm working on the file/knife now. That will probably be my next video in a week or two. Then I think it'll be an old oil lamp. We'll see.
You know, superfan, if you want to contact me, email me at the address in the description. Maybe you can help me choose one of my next projects? Cheers! :)

i'm in the process of repainting mine. did you replace the rubber feet?, or reuse the original? the ones on mine are as hard as a rock. i just read that these were in production from 30's to 50's.
I reused the original feet, thanks for asking
@@StevensFix thanks for you quick reply!
Did you replace the rubber feet on the bottom? I couldn't tell.
I meant to ask did you put the same feet back on or did you replace them? If so where did you get them? Thanks
Ur vids give me asmr
muy buena restauración, aunque hubiese sido mejor volver a cromar la pieza que va arriba y la manija también, quedaría como nuevo
very good restoration, although it would have been better to re-chromate the piece that goes up and the handle too, it would look like new
¡Gracias! Tienes razón, desafortunadamente, no tengo los recursos para volver a cromar artículos y financieramente, no tenía sentido enviar esto para volver a cromarlo.
...I. I have a Juice-O-Matic downstairs right now. We use it on lemons and limes. Seeing this video was like 18 levels of surreal, I didn't realize it was that fucking old.
Really, really old.
Oranges are bigger nowadays! Try juice oranges, cheaper too! Looks good.
Hi Z Worm! Thank you for your comment. You're very right! I bough oranges based on what would look good on camera and not for what would fit. By the time I realised it, it was in the middle of filming so I was too far. Cheers! :)
@@StevensFix Our World was so different 70 years ago. Be true to the World of the Antique!
good start, work on lighting. Great restoration.
Hey wanted to throw this out there. Has anyone tested these juice o mats to see if they contain unsafe amounts of lead? They are 50 years old. Ive seen 1 thing about them that said there was a lead concern
I think that is in Cal. or maybe Flint, Mich.
What type of paint did you use?
Hi Sean Chaney! Thank you for your comment! It was a enamel paint from Krylon. Cheers!
Steven fix where did you get the juicer from
U need to use the thin skin oranges which are more suitable for juicing ;)
Set your camera shutter speed to 1/60 to get rid of the horizontal shadow lines.
Hi Canal DEWILAPI! Thank you for this! I've been struggling with those horizontal lines since I got the camera! I'll try and fix the setting when I go back to recording tomorrow and if it works, I will certainly give you a shoutout in the video. Cheers! :)
Steven's Fix
Cool! 😁
Definely will solve this problem for sure.
If you end with a overexposed image, compensate increasing the aperture, lowering the ISO or both.
What was on your buffing wheel?
Buffing compound
Excelent job.
where are you from buddy!
You would have achieved greater results if #1 you had used juicing oranges #2 had cleaned the juicer with hot soapy water to get the metal polish taste out and #3 had used food grade grease on the moving parts. Unbeknownst to most people there is a great deal of difference between juicing oranges and oranges that are meant to be peeled and eaten like mineola oranges. Juicing oranges have a much thinner skin which makes them easy to juice and they yield a shit ton more juice than the one you had used. Try it out and you'll see what I mean. If you go to your market just ask for a bag of juicing oranges, they're very cheap and the juice tastes much better. Anyway you're welcome 😁😁😁
I'm watching this video on May 5 2021
Bad illumination my friend
3 weeks???
Great job! Very well done. But Why did that take 3 weeks? Also please don't cut like that your gunna cut your thumb off lol finger tips and curl them in and cut along your knuckles
Have you thought about the polishing compound and grease you use may contaminate your juice? Just sayin'. leenotcharleen
Hi charleen heath! Thank you for your comment. You are right about the metal polish - I didn't clean it first for the video but the polish has since been washed off. The grease is only in the gears and can't actually make contact to anything you put in the juicer. Cheers! :)
Oranges were smaller back then.
Usually they don't talk their asses off during these. You wonder why people aren't watching it, that's why.
The net not supposed to be sharper ?
Hi frost knight! Thank you for your comment! From what I can tell, not really. The point of the juicer is more to squash the oranges instead of cutting them. Cheers! :)
@@StevensFix i see thx, keep up the good work :)
I will! Please subscribe if you haven't yet! Cheers! :)
lol oranges from that era were only 2/3 that size
I found grapefruits work well too
Come back Bud.🙂

Hi arnaud B! Thank you for your comment! I can only restore items that I have. Unfortunately I do not have a dazey can opener. Cheers! :)
try cara cara oranges or blood oranges
Will do
Why not just sand the rust off?
13:08: "I don't even like orange juice that much." Not a fruit (or juice) guy or too much acid???
Hey Carlos Planas, Jr.! Thank you for your comment. It's just too much work for very little payoff. Usually if I'm going to drink juice, I want it from a box. Cheers! :)
Beautiful restoration! But IMHO, an absolute nonsense of a product. You'd probably get better results with a handheld reamer. Yes, I know this is from 70 years ago hence me comparing it to a handheld reamer and not a slow-juicer or some other similar modern device.
media blaster would make this much faster and prep the surface for paint, good job though
So what!!!!!!
Hi Paul Johansson! Thank you for your comment! I think that is one of life's greatest mysteries. So what? Cheers! :)
