    My mother being a native American always grew the three sisters way. U dig a hole plant corn,squash, pole beans in same hole.when they came in corn grew tall squash shaded soil and beans grew up the corn and feed the soil around them. Oh,she had us go the river and bring home carp or eels and plant them under the seeds. We had a lot of vegies.let the beans grow up the corn .will not hurt thecorn.

      @@carolynchadwick7867 I’ve never heard of 3 sisters way of planting either. I can see it working though. I’m going to try it. I have a fantastic spot to give it a try and if the weather starts getting sideways on me I will throw a tunnel over it. I want to try to tunnel veggies this winter anyway. Thank you!
      Also? for fish? I use cheap canned tuna. My first grow of corn using tuna was stunning. A3 day hot wind took it down though. If I had planted 3 sisters way I probably would have been fine.

    Beans can climb corn, does not hurt. If you plant the 3 sisters way…you plant corn when a foot high plant beans and a squash next to corn in same hole. Beans climb and provide nitrogen, squash smother out weeds. Win win planting

  • @fredasdaughter
    @fredasdaughter 3 года назад +38

    As I told your dad the Native Americans used to plant corn. After it was up they planted pole beans like you have to climb the corn. The beans provide nitrogen for the corn. There is a third "sister," squash that they also planted with it. Sometimes they used sunflowers instead.
    Corn needs to be side dressed with compost as it grows up, or at least soil hoed up to keep it upright. Also you need to plant corn in the ground, not in containers like you did. You need at least 100 plants for good pollination. You can get away with less, if you plant in blocks instead of rows. Look up the 3 sisters method of planting so you know I am telling you straight.

    If you burry your potato vines as they grow you will get more potatoes growing off the potato vine. So if you start with just burying the potato seed like 3 to 5 inches at first and then keep adding soil as it grows you will produce more potatoes during the growing season. If growing in the ground just add the soil up into like a hill.. Hope this helps 🙂

    I don't know about beans climbing corn stalk that's planted in a raised bed, but I do know that beans vining up the corn stalk when corn is planted in the ground won't hurt the growth of the corn. I have done it many times & it saves a lot of work making a bean trellis. Just wait till after the corn comes up to plant the beans in the ground. Water them both with a couple buckets of Miracle-Gro fertilizer dissolved in the water, & reap the rewards from the corn & bean's. The potatoes may be turning yellow because of the water standing in the raised bed. The bed could possibly need stirred a bit deeper to soak up the water. Can't wait to see you on the new homestead, making your dreams come true. ❤

    I am so happy for you and your family ! You have a great place ! I understand that your kids are taking a break ! It is good for them to just enjoy their family time and take a break from blogs! I loved it when you jumped into the big puddle ! It reminds me of something Adler would do ! Enjoy life to the fullest, who knows what Tomarrow will bring ! I love how you have set your priorities and are constantly re-evaluating your goals. So happy that you are happy with your life and constantly improving and making changes. At least you have support from your family ! Cherish that bond while you still have it ! :)

    The best Organic food is fresh from the garden 😋. The back yard and trails will be great for family time too . A hammick would be awesome on that deck.

    You do such a great job with those boys. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Love the names you give your animals, as it satisfies the nerd in me. :D My cats are named with nerdy/geeky names and most people just roll their eyes at me, ha! Love your vlogs of the "mundane" stuff(according to other people). Your place is how I want to do mine, someday. A little bit of everything. (I'm a gardener, though. When I get land...eventually, sigh. It's so hard to be patient for it to happen.... my gardens will be massive! My happy place.) I applaud you doing this as a single dad. It's still doable for us singles, but it definitely has it's own unique challenges. Can't wait for more videos!

    The bugs on the plants are Japanese Beetles and they will destroy the plants. There are different ways that you can get rid of them naturally. I've even bought garlic spray that hooks up to the garden hose and it worked and you can get it at Lowes or Home Depot but you can use things that you have at home to get rid of them and you also did the right thing when you thumped it off lol. You can shake them off. All the farm animals looking awesome. Hope you and your family have a wonderful and Blessed Day from us in Lexington Alabama

    Started my weight loss journey 3 weeks ago , but no exercise until tomorrow. Was looking at some yoga u tube videos about an hour ago then watch your video, so guess what it’s began’s tomorrow! I will let you know how it goes. I’m was 66 last week and like you I want to be here for our Grandson he will be 20 years old in October, but we need to be here for him as long as we can , there are still so many life lessons yet for him to learn. You see we lost our son 20 years ago and then two years ago this October we lost our daughter our Grandson’s mother, so it has been hard but he has helped us so much ! God has been there for me through it all! So God Bless you and your family !
