- I flew my wife to Mackinac Island for our 14th wedding anniversary! It was our first time visiting Mackinac Island, and we had a great time. It's a beautiful, serene place with no cars, just bikes and horse drawn carriages. Airplane and boat are normally the only way to get onto the island. Snowmobiles are allowed in the winter, and when the ice is thick enough, people do cross the channel on them. Flying the PC-12 onto the island was an awesome experience!

My first wife and I spent our honeymoon on Mackinac Island and enjoyed two nights at the Grand hotel. We spent the next three nights at one of the smaller but beautiful hotels down near the harbor. I highly recommend anyone visiting the island if only for one day. The lack of vehicles and the sounds of the horse-drawn carriages he is very soothing
Grant, after spending the better part of 25yrs in commercial aviation and being a Line Check Airman, your conduct on the flight deck is superb! Keep it up. The PC-12 has always been one of my favorites after giving a flight review in one centuries ago. Amazing aircraft....Thanks for sharing the experience!

Love the video. I was a bartender at the Grand Hotel the summer of 1980, fell in love with a cocktail waitress from Ft Wayne there and moved with her to Indy. Great memories!
I lived for many years just 26 miles from Mackinac Island. I flew my helicopter to Mackinac many times along with fixed-wing planes too. Great destination for pilots to fly to in the summer. No cars on the island. Horses and bikes. Love your Pilates 12

Very cool! You flew directly over Lake Douglas with Pelston airport on the left. We used to spend our summer vacations at Lake Douglas in the late 50's and early 60's. We got to see the bridge being built and enjoyed Mackinac Is. several times. Thanks for the show!

Great video! Can't say enough about the 360 camera. Very cool! I used to live in northern MI. It was very cool to see the Straits and Islands from the air. Now I live in Indiana.

I grew up on Mackinac Island in the summer, and Mackinaw City the rest of the year. Did my pilot training out of Cheboygan and flew to the island countless times. Very cool airport to fly in and out of!

Really enjoyed your video, have no idea how it got my attention, but glad it did. I live in Michigan and have been to the island dozens and dozens of times all by ferry. You can catch a ferry from either side of the bridge. Loved seeing my state as you flew north. Great job.

Grew up in cheboygan. Worked in mackinaw city and spent a lot of time on the island. Northern lower peninsula is a great place to live.

Mackinac Island is always a good trip.
Live in Michigan, been to Mackinac many many times, but never by plane. Run way always looks small from the ground. Great place to take the kids and capture memories. Hope you were able to get up in the Cupola Bar at the top of the Grand - views of island are majestic. Northern Michigan is stunning in the fall.
The lobby was as far as we went in the Grand. We will have to go back with the kids sometime!
Very nice. Been to the island quite a few times. Hope you two had a great time. Staying at the Grand is something you need to experience as well. Hoping to grab a plane out of GSH and take the wife up in October for our 30th. A year of adventures! Another great video and piloting management as well.

Yes I should! That area has some fantastic mountain biking. Some epic races too, like Ore To Shore, Marji Gesick, The Crusher and Polar Roll.
Very cool! We actually landed that same day about 15 minutes before you- actually saw ourselves unloading our plane in your footage as you entered the ramp at the back just to right in the arrow. We were admiring your plane - very nice bird. Happy flying!

Many people take their own boats to the island. We were there 2 years ago for the finish of the Port Huron Mac Race. Great time!

That’s still true. They do have emergency vehicles.
I love Mackinac Island. Now I’m going to have to re-watch the movie “Somewhere in time”. It was filmed in the Grand Hotel. I almost forgot to say great video. Thanks for bringing us along.

@@GrantBaker I believe you’re right. The only one that comes to mind at this point is the one I mentioned. It’s a movie about Christopher Reeve’s going back in time. It’s an old one, but I still find it very enjoyable to watch. I think I may have forgot to say your plane is gorgeous. I love that plane.

I grew up in Detroit and live now in LA. I almost bought a home next to the Mackinac airport runway. It was close to the end of the runway. Victorian style outside with modern amenities like AC and new windows. Looking back, I wish I would have purchased it and instead, sold my second home.

Can you tell me which mount you used for your 360 camera?
Yep! I use the Nflightcam Exterior Ball-Head Mount (amzn.to/3PEAXT4). It works great and is very secure! Their max demonstrated speed with the mount is 350mph, so probably plenty of margin for your Debonair! ;) I'll actually be doing a video on how I use the Insta360 soon, but if you have more questions, you can always email me at pilatusgrant@gmail.com.

@craigbmm4675 some people probably, but a big part the charm of Mackinac is the lack of engine noise that we normally can’t get away from.

Actualy Snow mobiles are the other transportation across the ice in the mid winter months from the Upper Paninsula to Mackinaw Island. Of course the shipping lane is closed for freighters at that time of year.

We didn’t stay there, but walked through the lobby. It looked amazing! I guess we will just have to make another trip!😁
