I don't have a favorite airplane. But I do have a favorite manufacturer; Pilatus would be my first stop if my savings account ever 100x's. Thanks so much for sharing.
I'm re-doing my post because (surprise!) some other RUclips viewers thought I was being harsh. 😆 Charlie, I'm glad you enjoyed the PC-24. As a former 121 pilot (A330/B737) and now current PC-24 driver, I agree: It's a fantastic airplane. Of course, no airplane is perfect. I talk with many other PC-24 operators - and the kindest thing I can say is that Pilatus seems to have a quality control problem with this airplane. It's pot luck as to whether you get a reliable machine or a lemon. Our airplane went AOG on its very first flight after delivery, so not off to a great start! As such, I'll say it's great - when it works. Pretty much everything you said about it was effectively regurgitating the Pilatus marketing hype - which is not your fault when that's all they give you, and you have no practical experience with the type to compare. However, realistically it's a solid 1,400-1,500 nm airplane. Sure, you can fly 2,000 nm if it's a light load and you want to land with bare bones reserves - but forget it if it's anything other than severe clear at the destination. And whilst Pilatus love to promote its 'off-road' capability as being unique for the light jet segment, I'd be very wary of operating into an unimproved strip - even more so if it's a remote location. Suffer a technical issue that results in the airplane going AOG - and it could be quite a while before a recovery crew is able to access the airplane to get it flying again. Just my thoughts... Otherwise, another great video from you. 👍🏼
VERY interesting comments and Im inclined to agree with you. Im EXTREMELY SKEPTICAL of the off road feature and this review completely glosses over it. Right when he talks about flying to New Mexico for a dirt strip landing I start getting real interested to see the results and hear the feedback but they dont say a word about it. They quickly start talking about how quiet the aircraft is on the ramp and everything except the dirt landing! WTF? How can you honestly review this aircraft, talk about the dirt landing, lead up to it by saying why you're flying to NM and DONT SAY A FREAKIN WORD ABOUT IT? Im sorry but it causes me to discount any reviews on this channel as it appears more paid shill than legitimate review.
@@DanielC__ I like Charlie's content. He runs a great channel and clearly has a passion for aviation. I don't see it as a reflection on him but more of an indictment on Pilatus for feeding him nothing but BS marketing hype. But what else would you expect from a manufacturer? They want to sell airplanes, of course! And don't get me wrong, the PC-24 IS a great airplane - if you're willing to accept its 'Pilatus-isms.'
@@bunglerat Thank you for the insight into the operational realities. Are you able/willing to share any insight into whether the ‘sticker price’ on the 12s and 24s are firm, or whether deals are offered depending on rate of sales at any given time (or perhaps depending on whether the proposed use case for the aircraft will be… photogenic and social-media-friendly)?
You’re videos are amazing man, very underrated. The PC-24 is my favorite jet just because of the landing capabilities, and everything else. It’s just awesome all around
Great!! I can see why our RFDS (Australia's Royal Flying Doctor Service) got so excited about this aircraft. They supply the medical services for doctors, dentists, emergency and other medical services for an area roughly the size of Europe or most of the ccntinental USA. This plane looks perfect for the RFDS.
Charlie, excellent video, my man! My favorite dream plane to possibly have someday has been Embraer's Phenom 300 for a long time, but I think it has now become my 2nd favorite. I had no idea the PC-24 had so many great features. The folks at Pilatus certainly have put in some thought and engineering into this machine.
they are listening. so am I. it's the door. (cargo). big fan. shopping the 350. leaning this way. (away from) ahem....the mrs....like an anchor. thank you for the hard work (all). respect to the Captain.
I'll take two! I live right down the street from this place and they recently re-routed the road between us. It's a bummer that I don't get to drive by a few times a week like I used to. Always fun to see the new planes.
The reason why the ame differed my medical to the faa is because I'm on ozempic and because I used to weight 702lbs but now I'm 318lbs. I can't wait to start training, I won a discovery flight and I loved the whole experience
In so many ways this jet outshines many others, no question about it. The only thing is the lack of touchscreens, they are much more intuitive than soft keys. The micro joystick or mouse control is very useful but I much more prefer the touchscreens.
When I was training for my IFR ticket my flight instructor, retired ATP, said looking out the window is secondary. Only to be used for taxi, takeoff and landing. ;-)
I might sacrifice my firstborn for a ride in this, my absolute favorite. (not!) I'm so jealous. I have a friend in Switzerland tasked with getting me into the factory. excellent excellent report. Thanks. Made my day.
Pilot: “What’s that smell?” Co-Pilot: “The boss just dropped a deuce in the pull out potty.” Pilot: “Oh how I miss the days when the John was in the rear.”
Yes and no. Pilatus does seem to have a quality control problem - and it's pot luck as to whether you get a reliable machine or a lemon. It's a fantastic airplane - when it works.
The lavatory sucks, but Pilatus made the big priority of cargo capabilities. That’s their main selling point in this category. In comparison, embraer phenom 300 has a much better one but no the cargo capabilities of a pc24. It is always a compromise.
Does it also have the same weird autopilot that the PC-12 has that is responsible for many crashes in bad weather when the pilot gets disoriented, and the autopilot gets automatically disengaged?
U.F.O. at 11:37--wow! Unless you've been playing with After Effects or something, you got a pretty good shot of one. Not the approach category but the minimums category. The C172 has an approach speed of 85kts, therefore it follows category A minimums because it’s under 90kts. But if the PC-24’s approach speed is around 90kts, would it have to follow category A or B?
I knew guys at a company that flew this and unfortunately the company sold them off because it spent more time flying back to the factory for maintenance than producing revenue for the company..
It kinda sounds like a bunch of disgruntled Airbus engineers that thought they could do a better job moved to Pilatus. I bet if it was much larger, it would have a nose loading door option, giving Boeing and Antonov a run for their money. The protections sound a bit like Airbus, at least. 🙂
Any Columbian customers? it does seem like a very capable airplane and that avionics does look snazzy, a credit to swiss engineering. However, it's 5.2ton empty and 12+million dollars. If the fuselage was done in 2mm carbon fiber as a single piece in a teardrop/blimp shape like Celera or Piaggio it could weigh less than 1 ton and still hold 10 bar of pressure, which is significantly more than the Pilatus can handle. Better aerodynamics and 1/6 the weight does tend to aid the fuel economy. Similarly the avionics should just be one bigger screen per pilot and no buttons. In other words, great plane, it's just very easy to do 10x better.
Imo if a private Jet can’t cruise at at least 505 mph with a range of 2800 miles it isn’t worth owning. So if you’re a millionaire reading this comment you know it’s time to move on to the next episode!
