I agree with literally everything here! There's so much potential in this space, and I want to see more people try new things. A rising tide lifts all boats!
Good advice here, I enjoy the simple content with very little editing and additional content. The contest of man and machine against others and focusing on the driver in focus. That is what I try to do. Remember for most of us, it's all about the fun and enjoyment of the interaction. Cheers.
your positive narrative is one of the reason why I come back & enjoy your content - on top of your background / working father, your POV is very similar to mine ...
Commenting a year after the video is published might make no sense but I need to say that I don't follow many simracing channels and yours is one of them for two reasons. First, your narrative is great and you could probably comment on fishing videos and make them interesting. Second is your to the point format. I took some inspiration from you for my content so far, I'm not going to lie.
Ah ha another sim racing dad! Always good to connect with others in the same boat out there buddy! Really appreciate the support - I shall have a look in on your channel too 👌
There's not much to look at at the moment because... well, fathering. 😂 I think I got the idea for the name after you mentioned being dad in a video of yours. 🙄

You could not have said this any better. You explain it all so well, this is a little diamond of a video. Will watch it back in those needed moments. Thanks Ben, sorry I didn’t say so when I first saw this, been meaning too for a while now.
Hey Ben! Just wanna say that I have taken up content creation as well, and though I'm just now starting, gotta say it's a blast! I definitely agree with everything you've said here, and I hopefully will soon find a unique style of videos as well! 😂 Also just so you know, you're the one who inspired me to take the plunge and try it out! Heck, even if no one watches my videos, I like making them! :D
It's not worth worrying about the channel being popular, because it almost only depends on youtube's algorithm... I watch a lot of simracing videos, sometimes I see really good videos with only 10-20 views and really bad ones with 10.000+ views... In my opinion the most important thing is that you enjoy the time you spend making your videos, and the audience either comes or they don't. For example, I started making videos for a couple of friends a few years ago, with only 30-40 views/video for a long time, then one of my videos was picked up by the algorithm, and since then my channel has reached 1.5 million views. Despite that, I will never be a content creator, I still make my videos for entertaining that few friends, but of course it's a good thing if they entertain other people as well. But we must not forget that for most of us this is not a job, but a hobby. As soon as I feel that it is no longer fun for me to make videos, I will stop making them. So I think the most important thing, as with any other hobby: ENJOY IT! :)
You know I am one of the guys you talk about. I am thinking to open a sim racing channel. Since very long time. I also did some broadcast in the past for some community championships and I enjoyed them a lot. But I don't know why I can't start. Maybe because I have still not clear the direction I want to follow. But you are really right on one thing: maybe I should just begin, and THEN the direction I will have to follow will show by itself maybe. Or maybe not. But if I never try... One day I will start, this video made me think a lot though. And I thank you for that.
I've made Sim racing videos with my smartphone, it's not easy, I've also done livestreams with them too and my views are small, but i won't give up. As you said, make the content your own, thanks man
Good video, A lot of this resonates with me, i’d agree that being yourself and enjoying yourself are most important, the sim racing niche is a lot of fun!
I've just started uploading videos, no idea where it will gead it's just a bit of fun really but this was a good watch and I really like your and Chris Rogers content.
Ah thanks man - really appreciate that. Sim Racing needs as many anonymous support groups as it can get!! I’ll check out your videos buddy - good luck in the journey!
@Ben_LaBroca thank mate, I only have 2 so far and struggling with sound. Going to do another tomorrow. Think I'm really starting to think about what you said in your video about style. Going to be interesting to see what mine ends up being.
Totally agree, Having a creator network has really helped me continue when times are tough, but also on the flip side helping someone else through their own struggles and seeing them come back stronger is really rewarding
Love this video, me and a buddy just getting started with our gaming channel so I appreciate you sharing your experiences. Thank u sir! Subscribed, looking forward to checking out the rest of your videos.
Onya mate. Thanks for sharing the steps you took/take to get where you are. I've tried commentary and I've tried the head in the corner videos but neither worked for me. I need to find a way to make content where I don't have to do either of those, because CTA and retention on those videos was worst of all. I think some people have it, and some don't. I don't, so I'm always looking for a style where I can be successful without having to be in video/audio at all, so I don't scare people away.
Great video Ben. Been there done a bit on 2 channels now come to the conclusion my skill set is editing a fellow Davinci boy myself, now retired from the Tube. As for new creator's go ahead an do it, but I cannot stress enough do your research on what works for sim racing and you. Learn basic editing along with title & thumbnails, plan every video like a picture story first. Watch other channels if you click off from a video within 30 seconds make yours better ! Some big YT's do race videos but I don't watch them, Le Broca has nailed it !!
I am not a content creator and I dont intend on becoming one. So I dont really know why I watched this video, but I just subscribed to the channel and still enjoyed watching it
Great video and very helpful. I have created content for about a year now and find it really difficult to gain new viewers. It feels like attention spans are so short that viewers lose interest pretty quick with my content. I suspect a large part of it is not that I record the entire race, but that my content doesn’t include any commentary beyond the intro. I feel as though I create something unique with the multicam POV , and that generally people enjoy it, but I really don’t get much feedback either negative or positive. Your video definitely helps to encourage creators and to not get stuck in despair.
Hey Rick buddy - it can definitely be tough going. For what it’s worth viewers wise I think I benefitted big time from starting in a sim like RaceRoom that was going through growth but was also under served on YT. I didn’t plan it that way it just happened, and it got me momentum. Also - and everyone’s different - but my big sources of views tend not to be race videos but guides and other stuff. Hope that’s helpful mate and the main thing is you enjoy doing what you do 💪
Great video Ben. I've been doing sim racing videos for just over a year now and I agree with everything you said. I find it very rewarding when I receive a thunbs up, comment or sub, but there are highs and lows and sometimes I wonder if it all worth the effort involved. That said I am seeing steady growth and a little community growing which makes me very proud that a dozy old Yorkshire bloke has managed to achieve something worthwhile after retirement from work.
Hey Doug - great work buddy! I’ve tuned in to a few of your league race videos, Fuji most recently I think. For me one of the best things about sim racing is how many generations are all involved at the same time and all on a pretty even playing field too. I think you’re right about the satisfaction from creating the content and community - in a way to stick it out on YT you need that too, as well as enjoying the racing! Thanks for watching and hope to see you on track one day!
Thanks Ben and also for the sub. I do my best and never give up. I was racing with Damien Cross at the weekend in his Ol' Ton event and had a blast. I just need my racing to improve a bit now. 😂
One of the things I love about your videos is the lack of negativity. I always watch your videos, as well as Chris' videos for this very reason. I agree, it is easy to be negative and tear down a game or person. It is much harder to be critical of your own driving and ALWAYS find the positive. Great video, keep them coming!
Very good video!! I have around the same time doing YT of simracing as you but I haven't cracked the formula yet (180 subs.) I am not sure if I suck at making videos, my bad driving is not appealing (I know that I suck at driving) or that I decided to stick to Spanish. So probably my niche (people that like videos of bad sim racing in Spanish with a dull guy) is to small ... :) Anyways, doing the videos has making me taking sim racing a bit more serious and practice a bit more, also being super clean and fair (you do not want to appear in camera ramming people off the track, -some deserve it sometimes though ...)
That's what literally kept me around and subscribed was your attitude and positivity. Plus you enthusiasm commentating your replays is enjoyable and sometimes make me laugh. This is kind of weird but your thumbnail selection attracts me for some reason idk. Anyways, great video, I can pass on info to my teenage son who is wanting to be a "RUclipsr", I don't think he realizes it's 20% fun playing games to get content and 80% editing his gameplay (I call it "work") but he's never going to know unless I support him and he finds out. Who knows maybe his calling isn't playing games but he'll enjoy video editing and that's also a career opportunity in itself for his age.
Ah that’s good of you to say buddy! Ha yes I very much see myself in the entertainment business rather than the sim racing business - I definitely spend more time making videos, liveries, chatting to people and thinking of new ideas than I do actually racing!! Good luck to your son - if ever I can help in any way just let me know!
Can I also just say that your voiceover work on the videos, and the way you put them together elevates them to the next level. Take it as a compliment, but as a recent follower I really didn't make the connection with the SuperGT inspiration, so to me you have your own style. Thank you for the content you, and all other creators provide us with!
My biggest advice is definitely perseverance! RUclips comes in waves, you will have low periods, but they will turn into super high periods, and then settle back down to low periods, and the cycle repeats, if your in a rut, see if there is something about your content you can change. And just keep posting! You will make it through! Great video Ben 😊
Great Video! just passed one month and 50 subs on my sim racing review/tips channel. It's definitely an endurance game. Great to see a smaller channel making a name for yourself! Would love to chat sometime to learn more and develop those connections!
Great video! One of the best parts of being a sim racing content creator is that you get to enjoy the content you create. I love watching each race I do and usually get a laugh at my near constant inability to use words as I end my video 😅🤣
I enjoy hearing the passion in your commentary. It brings me in and makes me fee like i watching a live event or highlight reel. Thank you for the work.
There are almost no dutch sim racers, and im highly inspired by jimmy broadbent going from "the boy in the shed" to "praga cup champion". Im thinking about doing racing videos in dutch, just not sure where to start and in what game
Totally agree, interacting with fellow creators who id probably never have met if not for content creator communities has made sim racing even more enjoyable!
You idiot….sorry couldn’t resist 😂 Another great video Ben. You 100% have to make videos you enjoy, when I first started I was racing series that I thought would get views rather than those I enjoyed. I know I’m in the minority but I genuinely like the Global Fanatec Challenge, hence why it features a lot on the channel, my channel is very small but through my videos I’ve got to know many of those I race against - this has been a real plus!
Hahaha I knew someone would go for that! Really enjoy your vids Ian and thanks for your support for La Broca. You know what I might give the Global Challenge a go at some point - the racing often looks class!
I'm not a youtuber, i'm just studying the ecosystem. Making a small channel may be easy. Unless you're a rich boy doing it for fun making a big channel that last for years and also worth the investment is harder. Most of the succesful youtubers are full time simers. Creating sim racing content is time consuming and money consuming. Imho the first most important thing to have is driving skill. It needs years to master. Not obligatory being an alien or a pro driver but some decent laptime and racecraft. Playing and recording videos is just a logistic challenge. In general people like watching videos that impress and inspire them. The second most important thing is the ability to talk an make engaging commentaries with your videos. There are some RUclipsrs here that use expensive rigs bragging to attract people in the other side there are some the skilled guy with good skills and nice commentary that get more views with cheaper rigs. Also biggest simtubers are people who master the art of being cash, i mean they don't hesitate to criticise or praise the sim they are playing. Sim racing is cool but many studio often do things that the community don't like so the community need to rise voice. Criticism and even controversy made the sim racing genre better.
Been watching since before you switched to mostly iracing. Always loved your edits and insights on the race rather than the typical face/pedal cam setup. I know it’s more effort but it is well worth it!
Ben, as always, an excellent video. Thank you. I'm not sure, but I think you have some notion of graphic design or something. I was wondering if you could help me, my son wants to create his channel, but I don't know what tools he should use. Could you tell me which ones you use, if they are free better? I think it could be a video for the future, too; of course, it's not in the tone of your channel anyway. Thank you again.
Been watching since I raced you in one of your first videos, always great content. Your editing and presentation has always been top notch and I'm glad you've gained a following.
This was awesome! As a new creator to the Sim space that's done a few livestreams and have a few videos in the works so far I really needed to hear this. I've been debating whether its worth it or not in my head as I've tried RUclips before a long time ago as a general gaming channel and I just burnt out. But channels like yours and others inspired me to start and now this video has inspired me to keep going. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this. I'm still on the fence, how to go about creating videos and stick with it, but you're giving me the inspiration I need to start. Like SuperGT and yours, I should create highlights of my races and my own tips. Perhaps even in my own mother language as well if I were to copy some of your tips in, make my own twist... I'll try with something simple.
I absolutely love your content. Your videos taught me to enjoy every race because every race has it’s own story. It‘s not just part of the big grind to x amount of irating but time spent with other drivers from all over the world that just want to have fun. I also love your good vibes and the way you treat your colleagues. Really inspiring!
Considering that none of my friends like sim racing in the first place I might start making content properly and maybe I’ll make friends doing it thanks for that tip Ben
Great video as always Ben, love the positivity you bring to the sim racing scene! My biggest challenge as a creator is making videos I enjoy that don't really do well in terms of views versus making algorithm pleasers. But as we both create content beside our normal jobs, I think it should definitely be a source of relaxation and fun. Love your stuff, keep on doing you!
Great video Ben. I don't have your editing skills so rarely put out videos these days, Live streaming seems to be my strength so i stick to that. I couldn't agree more that other content creators are a vluable source of not only inspiration but support as well. been there myself when I really feel like i've wanted to kick it into touch.
you and chris always make great videos and, what helps a great deal for me is that you are both nice guys. it's just a great shame that raceroom ranked is slowly dying because those are the racing sim videos i like to watch the most. participation has dropped from 100-150ish at peak times down to less than 50 thesedays whenever i've checked. it's so depressing
Great video, been humming and harring about trying for ages and thought sod it give it a go, just got some race replays up, no commentary or editing yet just going to learn as I go
Do you have any tips for someone at my size to be able to grow? I started roughly 2 years ago, but my growth has been slow. I will never give up, but hoped it would go as well as you
Anyone interested in a ‘creator cup’ community league? It could be a place for prospective ppl like this video is focused on, meet regularly, race cleanly, I can imagine voice chat banter n more…thoughts? 😮
I want to do it...I have all the gear to do it...but I just feel like I need to become a much better driver first...unless there is a market for laughing at just how bad I am....
Fantastic video and have always really enjoyed your videos. I can absolutely see you got the original inspiration from Super GT - I can see the similarily. Keep you the good work!
You mentioned a mid grade computer set up, What is your setup? My setup is over 5 years old and I am interested in upgrading my GPU my cpu is fine for me at 4.7 ghz but my gtx 1080 is starting to show its age in racing sims and I have upgraded my race setup to a Moza r5 and an inexpensive full cockpit and a 32 inch curved screen. I am getting more serious about racing and want to have higher resolution and FPS.
I agree with literally everything here! There's so much potential in this space, and I want to see more people try new things. A rising tide lifts all boats!
Hey buddy! Thanks so much for watching - big fan of your videos!
Lmao I need to innovate a lil bit more then haha
I agree 100%, I just started my channel and its definitely not easy, but your video gives me hope!!
Good advice here, I enjoy the simple content with very little editing and additional content. The contest of man and machine against others and focusing on the driver in focus. That is what I try to do. Remember for most of us, it's all about the fun and enjoyment of the interaction. Cheers.

Really like you and your videos bro keep it up 🫶🏻
Thanks Keith mate - appreciate it buddy!!
That sounds great!! Good luck with it and feel free to drop me a link if you do end up publishing!
Any particular Sim racing creators with negative bias?....I've got one in mind :-)
🤐😅
Very good
Cheers Brandon!!
Ah thanks Q mate - really appreciate it! I don’t know of anyone who brings more creativity and humour to their sim vids than you buddy!
Thanks Paul mate - long live the Sim Pub!
you and chris always make great videos and, what helps a great deal for me is that you are both nice guys. it's just a great shame that raceroom ranked is slowly dying because those are the racing sim videos i like to watch the most. participation has dropped from 100-150ish at peak times down to less than 50 thesedays whenever i've checked. it's so depressing
Great video, been humming and harring about trying for ages and thought sod it give it a go, just got some race replays up, no commentary or editing yet just going to learn as I go
Super video Ben, I have just started out as you know and yes it's your content style that I like. Keep up the good work pal
Do you have any tips for someone at my size to be able to grow? I started roughly 2 years ago, but my growth has been slow. I will never give up, but hoped it would go as well as you
Hey buddy - thanks for reaching out man. Are you on discord by any chance? Happy to chat on there?
@@Ben_LaBroca yes. Do you have a discord server?
Great video, Ben thank you for all that you do. I'm so glad I found your channel and thank you for all your help.
Awesome video again Ben!
Anyone interested in a ‘creator cup’ community league? It could be a place for prospective ppl like this video is focused on, meet regularly, race cleanly, I can imagine voice chat banter n more…thoughts? 😮
Great Video! I love your content
I want to do it...I have all the gear to do it...but I just feel like I need to become a much better driver first...unless there is a market for laughing at just how bad I am....
I can confirm there is a market for not very quick drivers!
@@Ben_LaBroca awesome lol maybe I'll create a "Jeff the slow poke" channel
Fantastic video and have always really enjoyed your videos. I can absolutely see you got the original inspiration from Super GT - I can see the similarily. Keep you the good work!
ACC when ?
You mentioned a mid grade computer set up, What is your setup? My setup is over 5 years old and I am interested in upgrading my GPU my cpu is fine for me at 4.7 ghz but my gtx 1080 is starting to show its age in racing sims and I have upgraded my race setup to a Moza r5 and an inexpensive full cockpit and a 32 inch curved screen. I am getting more serious about racing and want to have higher resolution and FPS.
