  • Teamed up with Utopia Ztudioz for a battle report. Using terrain he has built we set out for an introduction game for him and his son. Game was very fun and was exciting to the very end.
In the future I am planning on doing a voice over, but I cant find a microphone at home at the moment, so bare with me. It is coming. Still coming to grasps with recording and angles. Did however slow down with my recording when scanning the battle field, but it's still a bit hasty here and there.
The terrain is some of Utopia Ztudioz older material. And we will now start making new and improved terrain. If your interested take a look at utopia ztudioz.com on facebook. There are some of his work and for those interested, one can contact him for commission work. Terrain, models, art, etc.

Very well done and showing an old army vs a new one let alone doing so well is fantastic. Jolly good show.

So, I LOVE your style here. The quality of the video is top notch, and the music and editing are fantastic.
    However:
While I greatly appreciate the narrative in the beginning, the text delivery could have been a lot better. I read the first few bits and then skipped ahead. Re-using the same footage detracted from your efforts.
My main suggestion is have the text play across the entire screen. You can have it scroll like Starwars, or have it come in line by line across the entire frame. I think the latter would be better. There is plenty of great footage to use, but the same scene over and over again got old quick. Hell, I would actually love to have a dramatic narration. That would set up the match even better.
    Other than that, wonderful stuff.

      Thanks for that friend.
It's great to get feedback like this. The narrative in the beginning wasn't planned from the start. It just panned out like that after we played and the result indicated for a narrative play.
Thus I added a small story in the beginning.
The small text is suppose to be subtitles to a voice over I was planning, but couldn't find a microphone to accomplish this. So, your totally right about the text there. Was a plan of mine to change it to what you suggested, but got lost in all the editing.
Good catch on the footage too. The footage I had for the intro/story was separate from the game. The footage represents the scouting force in the story. But, more footage would have been better as you say. Even using some of the actual game. I don't think anyone would have noticed really :)
Your suggestions are noted and much appreciated.
Question for you. If these corrections are made, is a story/intro like this something to keep? I am not currently planning on doing it on all the battle reports, but if people are not so interested in it, I can easily skip it (saves me time too).
We are planning in the future to make "part 2" of this battle, and then I will plan the whole intro/story a bit better, than just "go with the flow".
Thanks again for your comment. Really helps me.

You're quite welcome! I'm glad my suggestion was in line with your plans. It sounds like you've got a good track for creativity.
I absolutely think you should keep going with the narrative bit. That's a huge thing that is missing in the batrep niche of RUclips. If you want to set yourself apart, as you should, then you've got an awesome shot at filling in a refreshing niche. The beginning had potential to be my favorite part as it did what GW has been telling us to do for years: forge the narrative. Forging a narrative for a batrep can often turn out cheesy, forced, or is omitted altogether. This leaves us with a saturation of videos that emulate trendsetters like Miniwargaming. I'm honestly tired of them being the only source of "quality" batreps. For a game that is more about the narrative than competitive play, content creatures sure are missing it. Which I understand; creating a video like this takes a LOT of work. Any video that has cuts, multuple sound channels, and so on is a pain in the ass to put together compared to a straight shot video. And all of that is before you even think about adding counters and such!
Because you have already established a foundation for quality video, quality audio, and quality editing, the three pinnacles of film, you're way ahead of most folks. The only thing that is left is a refinement and perfection of the creative bits. As you indicated, you're well on the way to do.
      So, moving forward, try this:
Get yourself a quality mic and either narrate yourself, or find someone with an excellent voice to do it. Really embrace the fantasy feel of AoS and take it seriously. Listen to some audio books or movies and really understand what it takes to be a good narrator.
      In summary:
I think you've got a lot of potential here. Embrace and perfect the narrative element, as there are plenty of folks providing 'normal' batreps. Folks like to be told a story. The only thing that was missed here was the execution.
Also: invest in a gyroscopic camera mount to help with shaky camera pans. RUclips also has a decent shake correction when uploading.
Good luck on the next one!

      Very nice to hear. Thanks.
The shaky cam I think is because the camera I am using has a 5 axis stabilisator. This helps when your trying to do slow constant movements. But I have now seen that this doesn't really help with the panning I am doing. The 5 axis tries to compensate and adds "shaky" movements as it tries to catch up (now I cant blame it all on the 5 axis... I am still recording to fast and not really planning the recording path).
But, a gyroscopic camera mount is something I was having a few thoughts on last night. But I'll do some more recording and see if this can be solved by turning of the 5 axis.
Great advice on the narrative part. Didn't really know there was a lack of narrative battle reports. I will work on this and see what I can do to please.

Awesome. :) I'm looking forward to see what comes out next.
Yeah, I mean just search age of sigmar and sort first by date and then by view count. Take a look at who is posting what (if you stay with default sort of 'relevance', you're subjected to RUclipss algorithm of delivery). Then take a look at the most popular videos in recent history. There is a distinct lack of high quality AND narrative.

Thanks a lot mate. Been a while since I made some battles. Much due to 8th ed 40k. Not many players still playing AoS :( So I am currently working on a gaming table and some armies for 40k.

      Thanks.
We have been inactive for some time now. This due to restructure of the format and the release of 8th ed 40k.
But soon there will be battle reports from 40k and AoS in a similar fashion.

I think you can't use fanatics without hidding them in a grot squad. Aside from that fantastic battle report, I like the quality and the editing of the video.

According to the Warscroll on GWs website, it is said that they "can" be set aside in hiding. Implying that you can deploy them normally.
      Copy from GWs pdf:
"Instead of setting up normally, you can place it to one side and say that it is set up in hiding."

can you put links to your music?

    • @MrLeonarddime
      @MrLeonarddime  7 лет назад

Well, there isn't any links directly. They are free music from iMovie (application on Apple systems).
So if you own either a iMac or Macbook you can find the music in iMovies.
