I made mine over 15 years ago I sold them when I was at classes so many people In my circle of friends have them I thought I might as well show people how to make their own This tool has made preparing binding so easy
Once you make your binding you can wind it around a cardboard toilet roll. On the underside of your sewing table you can attach a toilet roll holder..put the roll of binding on it and it will roll off from it while you are sewing . Another option. is to buy a floor toilet roll holder to use instead....put roll of binding on cardboard tube on it and sew.
Excellent board size/shape and batting without overkill. It’s just right and perfect….right down to the needle size and positioning! Masterful…. ❤ Thank you Terry for sharing your wonderful tool!
Beautiful cover with handle, thanks for showing us. And what a great tip about the tall needles and leaving the iron in between them, so you have both hands free, that will save me a lot of time. 👌👍
I have watched many great videos but OMG this is the best one I have ever seen, it is full of tips. I would like to know where you get all of your tips and what is your background. I want to watch it again and count all the tips you had in this video. You are the BEST and very easy to understand. Thank you so much!
Thanks Jeanne these are tips I have learned along my 40 year journey as a quilter. I have developed and improved my binding on the journey and thought I would put them all together in one place, if they work for me maybe others would be interested also. What were some of your awe ha moments Jeanne . Ps In the description below the video there is a list of all the tips with the time hey appear in the video
@@terryrowland398 Drawing the angle line before you got to the corner and cutting the four layers of bulk out of the corner fold. You have the nice way of explaining everything and making easy to understand. Thanks for passing on all your tricks of the trade. You have interest in the temperature quilt, I know I will be watching more of your videos. It’s been a joy watching you. Thanks again!
I am going to make a binding board - no more burnt fingers! Love the patterns you use - I do similar ones. I especially love the pattern hanging behind you on your binding video
I just realized I’ve only seen one other person use a binding board but can’t remember who it is but I know she has a lot of subscribers. It’s great to see someone show use how to make these, that way I don’t have to buy binding from stores as I’m still not that good at making them.
I love being able to make my own in whatever Color I want. I first started making and selling these boards at least 15 years ago I wonder who this person is ? Anyway make your own and enjoy
I’d never heard of a binding board, but I have some scrap paneling and duck cloth. I will make one as soon as it warms up enough to use the saw in the garage! Brilliant.
This is the answer to not standing at the ironing board forever plus not burning your fingers! Fantastic! Thank you so much for this video! Many Blessings from Deborah in West Virginia!
You are so welcome Deborah I have been doing mine this way for about 15 years and I have made to many to count now I would like to share with anybody that would like to make their own
So AWESOME! Another great application for this tool would be to measure of the amount of fabric needed for the binding itself. Say the quilt measures 60" on each side giving you a total perimeter of 240". You could have the width of the binding already cut and then wrap it around the 12" length of the board. For this example because the board is 12" long and the binding would be wrapped on the front and the back of the board the binding would be wrapped around both sides 10 times. Without a doubt, I'll be making one! Thanks for sharing, Terry.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was able to find a perfect piece of plywood at Michael's and made mine by cutting apart a canvas tote that was lying around. It works great, although my iron was sliding around as I slid the binding through, so I clipped a couple of Acco binder clips next to the 5" needles (at the top and bottom of the needles) to keep it in one place. I can't believe how quickly you can press your binding with this! And much more satisifying than buying one for about $30.
@@terryrowland398 when I saw the ones for sale I couldn’t figure out what they used to slide the binding through. I had no idea there were 5” needles anywhere! That was inspired of you!
This is such a great idea. This will be so helpful to me as I don't have a lot of use in one hand, so I can use that hand to pull it through while the other does all the work, this will be so much easier. Thank you so much for sharing this, I will definitely be making one.😀
Hi Terry, after I watched your video on binding and I saw you use this, I was hoping you would show us how to make one. Thank you for the tutorial. I had to put a binding on a quilt yesterday and I re-watched your binding video again and my binding came out perfectly. Now I just need to make one of these boards.
Pressed board would turn to mud with the steam. I really like the striped fabric on your binding board. The lines could be very useful. This is a fantastic tool, I’m thanking you for saved burned fingers!
I love this idea, and will make one pronto. Pressing my binding is always my least favorite task; so tedious! New sub, and I will definitely catch up on your other videos. Thanks so much!
I have subscribed to your channel, that video was most informative and a ton better than the gadgets they sell and don’t make that good a job. Thank you.
Thanks Terry. I have a similar small pressing board and I use your method of folding the binding ever since you shared it. Great thing. Have a nice day
This is great, I have done this with pins to make 1" double-fold binding, but needed a longer needle to make wider binding. Didn't know about doll needles! I use the lines on my striped ironing board cover to keep everything straight 🤗
This is a fabulous tool and a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing! A cautionary note re panelling. Some panelling is made of thin layers of wood that is glued at right angles to one another. Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Love this idea and think I would use 2 sets of the doll needles and position at beginning and end of board in addition to middle to help keep strip straight.
Thank you so much Terry, I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing binding board. Fantastic idea, I’ve never seen this before, and I’m going to share this with my family and friends too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I started making them about 15 years ago and made them and sold them to friends and students so around my area they are know I know how much I love mine so thought I would share how to make them so others can enjoy them also
Love it! The long needles are genius. I was forever melting the yellow pin heads. Having a separate board always set up would make me more inclined to use this faster, safer method. Thanks for sharing with us.
Wow!! the simplest things are always the best. I am fairly new to quilting and have trouble keeping my binding straight, I am definitely going to give this a go. Thank you for a great video! 🙂
Thanks for this tutorial. I have done three bindings since I made one and it is a game changer! Thanks 👍🏽 P.S. I’ve found if I wear a light glove I don’t have to worry about grabbing hot binding right from under the iron.
Ah ha moment when you opened the package of doll needles and left the iron laying down. I made do for making cover strips with long flat flower head pins when the bias maker I had wouldn’t work.
I started using them on my iron over 15 years ago I did not like the holes it left and the discolouration of the burn marks That is why I came up with the binding board
I’ve seen people do this on their ironing board but as you say it can mark it as the iron is sitting in place for a long time. This is a much better idea. I love the quilt behind you it’s gorgeous. Have you done a video on it?
So happy to find this video..I ended up making 20 of these for our quilt club.. awesome.thank you

this is great. i have never seen anybody make a binding board.
