All you people saying that Robot-kun's performance lacks soul. I disagree. His bodily movements really convey a sense of humanity. He even took a breath before his second piece. Something every human does. Also, he's a robot, he has no soul to begin with so he can't put in into his music. As sad as that is to say.

MIDI it's just the protocol. What he meant was the mechanical transitioning in between the notes, which of course was primitive at the time. I'm sure they have improved so much...
Man, that sound the robot is producing has a rich amount of harmonics
I'm inclined to think it's some sort of midi playback being run by this robot. I have a hard time imagining that a machine could implement the embrochure required to actually play the trumpet as shown.
Everyone here in the comments are afraid that robots will soon become better than the professional musician

I don't think so, because robots lack the most important thing in music and art in general: feelings.
A computer can only be told what to do, any music created by a computer will either be procedually generated through an algorithm or programmed via midi or tracking
Maybe if we had a few of these back in high school, our trumpet section would have sounded better!

It would be awesome if they made the robot look like great trumpet players of the past - e.g., Harry James, Al Hirt, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and others.

The trumpet got a nice sound, and you definitely got talent for this, nearly as if you're built for this kind of work.
But what you're missing is the soul!
You have to put emotions into this.
Take a deep breath, and make your blood boil with your feelings, let all of your life flow into the music.
As soon as you've improved that, you may evolve into the greatest trumpetists alive.

Today's robots are not "intelligent" they are just pre-programed to react to certain kinds of stimulus. This robot would not know how to create something new from scratch that would make any since. It is pretty cool how they recreated the humanoid possibility to play a trumpet.
Googolparsec There's a robot that can create original paintings in the style of Monet, and one that is capable of creating its own original musical compositions. We aren't far from having hit songs written by AI

Technically it’s very impressive, but it has absolutely no dynamics or volume shape. The vibrato is also very stiff and well, robotic. Every note is exactly the same timbre and volume. The day it can play Charlier 2 or Concone with proper musical phrasing is when I’ll be truly impressed and maybe start worrying about my job security.😅

En 1er lugar no tiene labios, 2°En vez de diafragma tiene una luz que alumbra, 3° es un amplificador de sonido y esta codificado sus dedos con un sofware de computadora, 4° nunca tocara con sentimiento porque no tiene corazón, su sonido es monótono(sintetizador), 5° es un insulto a los trompetistas que entonan con mucho amor y dedicación.
