- In this video we're checking out the 500 series EQ 5169 by HRK - Bart HRK.
This is one of the cheapest EQ on the market in its category and I think it's great ! This studio analog eq is obviously based on the old Studer 169 EQ, and is handmade in Poland with great NOS parts.

P Godaz sure il really like it ! I think it’s a bit more versatile than the pultec style, you can easily boost or cut in the mids, which is very convenient. When not overusing it I think it sounds great ! 😊
@@piotr803 The pultec style one is top notch, I have a pair. Nice subtle colouration even just running signal through the units and when you boost or cut the sound really comes alive and sparkles. Combination of tube and transformer does wonders.
I am now completely torn between which of the 2 EQ's to choose! Does the 5169 also have color even without the EQ Bands engaged?

that low band does something really special. That's a nice eq for tracking! Do you find it has any issues with noise, muddiness, or anything else that would defeat the purpose?
Thanks for tuning in John ! Honestly I don't think it has any issue, I use it all the time on pretty much every source and if you're using it correctly it's sounds great.

Est ce que tu arriverais à le décrire en comparaison d'un EQ API comme le 550a par exemple ? J'aimerais bien un EQ format 500 qui rajoute de la profondeur au son mais avec un prix doux :) Merci ! Sound4Label Salut Benjamin ! Merci pour ton commentaire ! :) 💪🏻 Je suis un énorme fan des EQ API 550 pour le coup ! Sur la copie Studer on est quand même pas dans la même ligue. Il y a une couleur et des choix de fréquences plutôt bien pensés c’est vrai. Cela dit la course des potard est tout de même réduite comparés aux API, il me semble compliqué de booster 8 db sur certaines plages sans tomber dans la caricature. Également les Q sont assez larges et ne changent pas en fonction des dB contrairement aux Api. Dans l’ensemble on a moins de marge de manœuvre tout en pouvant booster un peu de bas par ci ou d’aigu par la en faisant un peu attention ! (À ce prix finalement le risque n’est pas énorme, moins de 400 € la paire) J’espère que ça t’éclairera ! 😉
@@jimbergson Un grand merci pour ta réponse super intéressante! Ca en fait un EQ très musical peut etre duocup à compléter avec de l'EQ plugins en mixage. Merci pour les Q j'avais oublié cette caractéristique des API. Je prendrais une paire de Studer pour essayer à coup sur, très bon rapport pris qualité. Dernière question, est ce que tu vois un EQ format 500 qui se rapprocherait des 550 mais sans le prix astronomique ? :D Merci et bravo pour ta chaine, super qualité la vidéo!
Sound4Label je cherche ça personnellement depuis des mois sans succès. Du moins tout dépend du budget mais il y a CAPI (classic products of Illinois) qui fait des copies extraordinaires mais c’est du kit à monter (et pas facile !) et on est déjà à 450 €. Déjà monté on est à 600 € d’occasion en moyenne... mais après tout c’est déjà 2 fois moins Cher qu’un 550 original 😅
@@jimbergson Merci :) J'avais jeté un oeil aussi sur CAPI et effectivement ca reste moins cher mais cher quand même :D Je dois équiper une console 16 channels en EQ, tu mettrais combien de Studer ? :) Je pense varier sur les types EQ mais pas trop car il faut garder une ergonomie simple et rapide :)

Unfortunately I haven't tried the passive 2 band from them yet, But having 2 HRK modules already I would totally go for it ! At this price point I'm assuming it's solid (And I think there is a sale at the time !)
I have a pair of the EQ550P - they're top notch!
Now that you have a stereo pair, how well can you get them to "link'? Do you tend to use them on stereo material? Or mostly for mono sources? Thanks
Hey Alvin ! I tend to use em in mono mostly as I track a lot with it 😊
You can buy a « matched pair » on their website if you want, to be honest I do not care that much about « absolute matching » when doing stereo ☺️

@@jimbergson btw I read somewhere that someone said these units tend to distort (not in a nice way) especially for material with alot of low end. Is this your experience?

I heard HRK had big problems in quality control and aftermarket service.
Are those still a thing ?
Haven't heard of that, I've got 2 pieces from them and they work great. But I'm pretty sure, in that case they would fix any problem anyway as their manufacture is pretty small, everything is handmade and Bart (The CEO) is a really nice guy :)
