Really? You are correcting "Than" when he spelled taller "teller"...Ohh and to answer your question Star it actually happened very slowly throughout the show! You can see hints of him slowly but steadily becoming taller and taller as they go through their journey. It is actually really impressive and cool since most Animes conveniently forget about that part despite their protagonist being young people that really should be growing and get older through their sometimes several years of travel-
Because of two factors: He got a lighter automail limbs and used his lifespan to heal himself fom teh incident with the pipe, bassically he's aging rapidly since Ed looks now on his late teens to early twenties
@@blakepax2768 Somewhat but not entirely. Cutting down his lifespan doesnt mean he will age rapidly. And he IS in his late teens at this point. The lighter automail and the link between him and Al's body weakening contributed to him getting the growth spurts that he pretty much missed out on, cuz his body was also keeping Al's body growing at the gate. He was literally growing two bodies. Hence the amount he ate and the amount he slept being ridiculously much for someone his age. But yea he's more or less about 18 here. 19 during the epilogue, or 20 at best during the epilogue. But he doesnt change as much by that point. You dont change a huge amount from 18 to 20. Meanwhile the difference between a 15 year old and an 18 year old is very clear. Using his lifespan to heal himself just means what the phrase actually means. That he'll die earlier.
Would been cooler if when he slammed the door and left, Winrey woulda just stood there for a moment, and then blushes and goes "Was he taller then me just now?"
@@ana-maria8248 wrong. Rewatch episode 41. He aged because he used his own vitality to heal that pole wound. He said it himself that it would shorten his life spam (aka aging)
@@thekrustaceox5181 I mean, that's a way of interpreting it, but as I see it the time skip is enough to explain this. Think about it, a few months have passed since we (and Winry) have last seen Ed and boys his age tend to be in the middle of a growth spourt. Now you may ask : "But why hadn't Ed grown until then?". Well, it's because (and this is not entirely mine, is a theory I saw online) during the winter and spring, when the time skip occurred, Ed no longer had the old heavy automail on him. He had the new lighter one that no longer put a strain on him, so he could grow up a little more naturally. People believe that if Ed hadn't had the automail, he would have been much taller by now, just like a normal boy his age. And regarding your statement about him aging due to him using his life force to survive, well, that would have resulted in an instant growth spourt, making Ed growing a few inches and looking older in a matter of seconds.
@@thekrustaceox5181 Literally not how that phrase works. "Shortening my lifespan" doesnt mean I will age years in the matter of a couple days. It means not living for as long as you could've otherwise. You take a bullet to the head that shortens your lifespan significantly too. Youre not gonna age years in the matter of a couple days. And again, rewatch the whole series. There's subtle changes to the characters physically as time goes on, even before episode 41. Ed's face changes even before episode 41. Winry changes too. Or how would you explain Winry looking like an actual woman here, compared to how she looked at the beginning of the series? Did Ed shortening his life span age EVERYONE up not just him?
I can get where he's coming from when he says there's a chance he might not be able to save everyone. He's trying to cover his bases, if he somehow can't save everyone, he wants to make sure Winry and their family is safe. Ed's not just doubting his abilities, he's trying to ensure survival for the ones he loves, on the off-chance his abilities aren't enough. He's being realistic, he doesn't deserve a concussion for it xD
I actually love when he snaps at her leaves, and she’s just standing there a bit taken aback; she and the audience realize he’s starting to become a man. This show is great.
Right, even tho it was harsh what he said he has a point. Even tho he wants to save everyone, there’s a chance of failure, and that chance of failure is nerve wrecking. Sometimes being real with yourself and coming to terms with reality is part of life so might as well hope for the best and fear for the worst sometimes.
Caesar00Chan ikr, it goes to show how mature he’s become and how much he evolved as a character. I’d bet anything the little pipsqueak Ed wouldn’t hesitate to jump in the scene and play hero, overestimating himself, only to get Auto-mails wrecked and a suffer a harsh reality check.
I’ve always really appreciated that they visibly age Ed throughout the entire show. He’s not as young in brotherhood as he was in 2003 for the start of the show, but he’s still a child, and it shows in everything he does/is. He gets visibly taller, his hair is longer (and on the note of his hair, he starts wearing in more varied styles instead of just the braids as he did exclusively when he was younger) Even his non-auto mail arm bulks up with his age/growth and he even has a more solid sound to his footsteps as the show goes on. That’s always been one of my favorite details, they don’t have him jump a foot and a half and 40lbs in an episode, it’s a progressive thing and a visible labor of love for the details.
I love how people are coming up with these theories on why Ed has grown so much when the simplest, likeliest answer is just puberty. Like, he's a teen. Of course he's gotten taller. That's normal. It just goes to show how well-written FMA is -- the characters' bodies gradually change with time instead of staying the same throughout. It highlights the way Ed has grown and matured since the beginning of the story. It's great.
IIt's a very small scene but that moment where their just looking at each other. Ed just looks really surprised and touched about what winey rolled him. It was like he realized that just how much she loves him and believes in him. He probably wasn't ready to hear it, hence why he stormed out. But I think it meant a lot to him. That's what I got from it anyway.
It sounded more like she was demanding him to save everyone instead of encouraging him. In this scene Ed actually was very logical because saving a whole country and its people isn´t an easy task.
Something cool the show does is keep Edward around people who are just absolutely massive or at least much taller than him so that it’s hard to tell how much he’s growing, so when this scene happens it’s like “HOLY SHIT MY BOY”
@@akumasstorytime3910 once Armstrong accepted his duty and decided never to run away from battle ever again, it was one of the BEST moments of the anime. My eyes are stinging just thinking about it. Fun thing I noticed: in Rush Valley Dominic said heavy automail could be stunting Ed's growth, and it's only after Briggs when Winry gave Ed his lightest automail yet that we see noticeable growth. Obviously a few months time jump to grow helps too 😂
He’s right not to make that promise, and he can’t force her to leave. Winry trusts him (maybe too much), and Ed (now armed with maturity) knows there are no guarantees.
In a lot of animes when people yell at each other, it sounds scripted and can tell. But in 1:20 the way Ed yells is terrifying like how it would be in real life
I love how Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the few anime that actually showed characters growing over time and not a cheap time skip once every ten or so years.
Ok so. Ed on his 12-15 years he was like 5'0/152 cm and Winry's official height is about 5'4/162 cm. But since Ed got an lighter automail and used his lifespan to heal himself from the stabing of the pipe, Ed grow up at least juddging by the looks, around 6 inches....Holy Crap! Ed went from 5'0 to 5'6/152 to 168 cm on just one year :C
From the time when he gets impaled with the beam to the time he runs into Winry in her old house here, several months had gone by. He had plenty of time to train. Plus he got older which naturally gives him a more muscular build.
I really appreciate, how Ed and Winry look here. Winry got more "womanly" body shape and her face details look sharper. Ed's hair is longer, the body is more mature and he is grown taller. They both really beautiful looking.
1:55 Always shocks me everytime. We've never heard Ed talk back to Winry in such a serious way before, and because of this it cuts super deep. Great emotional moment that shows us a little more of Ed's character/how he reacts to the seemingly unreasonable expectations Winry has of him. I love this show so much.
I noticed Ed growing throughout the series. The moment I started this episode and I noticed how much older Windy looked, I already knew Ed had to have grown a lot too... I just didn't expect that much.
Winry knows Ed so well that she knows he can protect the country and save everyone. That just shows how amazing of a person she thinks Ed is, and she just want to make sure he is determined to make it happen.
The irony. He did get taller but his confidence lowered enough that started doubting himself. Winry was like, "what happened to you?! This isn't the Ed that I know! Where's the cocky, arrogant, confident shortie who makes so many promises and won't stop at nothing to make them come true?!"
He is more realistic now. He now realizes, he is not strong enough to be overconfident and something can go wrong an every moment. That means, he grew up not physically, but mentally also.
To be fair, this is right after a time skip in the story. Mind you IIRC the time skip was only a couple of months, but clearly Ed hit his growth spurt during that time lol.
When I look in the comments and I laugh because most people are making fun of him. It sad but funny, eds probably pissed, wait wait wait, I'll share this to him, one sec, k hope he's not to mad lol

TheKrustaceoX Like that one guy said, an 8 year old that’s going to die from cancer in 2 years isn’t going to suddenly become a fucking decrepit old man. You’re a fucking idiot.
*Show not tell.*
Finally he's not a short teen! 😂
A real man
Winry intonation in "Listen to me" was kinda funny
Nicole Garcia it kinda reminded me of something katara would have said to aang in atla.
Edward was teller then winry when did that happen
Starspeedmoon ANIME than*
Really? You are correcting "Than" when he spelled taller "teller"...Ohh and to answer your question Star it actually happened very slowly throughout the show!
You can see hints of him slowly but steadily becoming taller and taller as they go through their journey. It is actually really impressive and cool since most Animes conveniently forget about that part despite their protagonist being young people that really should be growing and get older through their sometimes several years of travel-
bibbobella Yeah good point. Also yes I did notice the height progression, just another reason why this show is so great.
Starspeedmoon ANIME he got new automail that's lighter so he can grow
There was a 6 month time gap between this episode and the one before it (The Promised Day)
2:05 when did he grow taller than Winry? When did he get those muscles? When? Where? Howww? So many questionssss 😂
JEBAITED
Because of two factors: He got a lighter automail limbs and used his lifespan to heal himself fom teh incident with the pipe, bassically he's aging rapidly since Ed looks now on his late teens to early twenties
Ed may not drink milk, but all the fights must be making him stronger. Plus we've seen him eat huge steaks, so that must be helping his growth.
@@pcrassen4975 he's 16 tho
1:54 MAAAN Does ed sound like a drunken dad ;-;
Cedric Francis somewhere at Rooster Teeth heard that exact line and ideas brewed
😂😂😂
Lmfaoo
Cedric Francis LoL! Now I can think of him as that instead of just being a jerk...!
Hes sounds like Qrow doesnt he? ;)
Winry hitting Ed with the wrench is the reason his growth got stunted lol
He’s still cute either way
Still got that babyface
When you care so much for her that your fear of losing her outweighs the self-confidence you built for years.
With the amount of close calls he had before this, our boy went from idealist to realist
I can't express how much I love this anime. It's flipping awesome
Ditto
Holy shit. I never noticed til now but damn!
Edward got taller!
Thank you.fot pointing this out, my mind has exploded.😵
Looks like his dream came true. I _do_ miss his hilarious short rants.
Would been cooler if when he slammed the door and left, Winrey woulda just stood there for a moment, and then blushes and goes "Was he taller then me just now?"

Has anyone noticed that ed was smol and tiny until THIS episode and his height was just like, noPe I'M GONNA BE BIG
AppleShy The White Witch It’s because there was a time skip.
@@ana-maria8248 as i said rewatch episode 41 and pay attention to what Ed says at the end.
Man, not sure if it was the Milk or his Automail, but I definitely notice the height difference from the earlier episodes.
Literally everyone: EdWin
Me, the not such an intellectual: WinWard
Real 👍
That was a damn good observation
Caesar00Chan ikr, it goes to show how mature he’s become and how much he evolved as a character. I’d bet anything the little pipsqueak Ed wouldn’t hesitate to jump in the scene and play hero, overestimating himself, only to get Auto-mails wrecked and a suffer a harsh reality check.
I just really like that annoyed sigh he does at Winry before he leaves.
Plot twist: he's wearing height increasing insoles he got from amazon
They already spund like a married couple
Winry: I don't like guys shorter than me
Edward: fine.
Winry: 😳
It sounded more like she was demanding him to save everyone instead of encouraging him. In this scene Ed actually was very logical because saving a whole country and its people isn´t an easy task.
this is a great emotional deep scene.its quiet but very intense
I like how subtle his growth was, it wasn’t like randomly tall in one episode
You can notice it more and more in the art style, his face gets a bit longer and more adult like, it’s actually pretty cool to see.
Something cool the show does is keep Edward around people who are just absolutely massive or at least much taller than him so that it’s hard to tell how much he’s growing, so when this scene happens it’s like “HOLY SHIT MY BOY”
Darius, Heinkel, Major Armstrong, Scar, Hohenheim, Captain Buccaneer they're all massive humans
@@IkesPimpHand scar isn't massive just kinda tall and hoenheim is big bodied
@@IkesPimpHand Armstrong is fucking 7 foot tall. He's the man I aspire to be.
@@akumasstorytime3910 once Armstrong accepted his duty and decided never to run away from battle ever again, it was one of the BEST moments of the anime. My eyes are stinging just thinking about it. Juxtaposed with his small scene of him having trouble coping in the anime intro song(i forget the name), just perfect. Seriously, though, the anime is FILLED with exemplary humans.
Translation:
Winry: Come back save honey. Love you.
Ed: I will try my best, love you too bye.
Fun thing I noticed: in Rush Valley Dominic said heavy automail could be stunting Ed's growth, and it's only after Briggs when Winry gave Ed his lightest automail yet that we see noticeable growth. Obviously a few months time jump to grow helps too 😂
I'm so use to short Ed though
He's still short for an average white teenager. He was 4'11" at the beginning, now he's 5'6".
>camera pans down
>Ed is balancing his real leg on top of the automail one
Will miss vic so much his voice is what got me into anime
What's sad is that he's leaving because of hateful accusations against him. :(
SEEING EDWARD WITH A PONYTAIL MAKES ME MAD CUZ U CAN TELL HES GETTING OLDER AND TALLER AND I DONT WANT EDWARD TO GET OLDER D:
He’s right not to make that promise, and he can’t force her to leave. Winry trusts him (maybe too much), and Ed (now armed with maturity) knows there are no guarantees.
In a lot of animes when people yell at each other, it sounds scripted and can tell. But in 1:20 the way Ed yells is terrifying like how it would be in real life
He’s gotten taller & more buff
This was the moment i realized Ed really had grown up alot. In more ways than one
My 5'4" ass felt so betrayed when he ended up being taller than me in the end. Heartbroken. Heartbroken, I tell you.
“Quit nagging me, woman.”
1:45 i got this screenshot as my wallpaper and i'm not ashamed of it at all
It's a shame people still look down on him
In one year Al:Ed remember when you were short Ed:SHUUUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My baby boy's all grown up and mature, it melts my heart
One of the very few anime which shows growth of their characters with time 😌
I love how Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the few anime that actually showed characters growing over time and not a cheap time skip once every ten or so years.
1:42 hot DAAAAMMMNNNN he ain't short anymore!!!
I love this scene so much. Brotherhood has such an amazing story
Also Muscular. Where did he train? He barely had free time.
LOL
fights, runaways
All those fights made him stronger 💪
On the job training
From the time when he gets impaled with the beam to the time he runs into Winry in her old house here, several months had gone by. He had plenty of time to train. Plus he got older which naturally gives him a more muscular build.
I think Ed started growing when Winry switched his normal automail with the cold weather automail,
It's not running away, it's a tactical retreat
I really appreciate, how Ed and Winry look here. Winry got more "womanly" body shape and her face details look sharper. Ed's hair is longer, the body is more mature and he is grown taller. They both really beautiful looking.
1:55 Always shocks me everytime. We've never heard Ed talk back to Winry in such a serious way before, and because of this it cuts super deep. Great emotional moment that shows us a little more of Ed's character/how he reacts to the seemingly unreasonable expectations Winry has of him. I love this show so much.
He actually looks like he’s grown since the beginning. Like, a lot.
That's because Northern Automail is less heavy and it doesn't hamper his growth.
I noticed Ed growing throughout the series. The moment I started this episode and I noticed how much older Windy looked, I already knew Ed had to have grown a lot too... I just didn't expect that much.
I love how it’s just Haruhi and Tamaki’s voices
Winry knows Ed so well that she knows he can protect the country and save everyone. That just shows how amazing of a person she thinks Ed is, and she just want to make sure he is determined to make it happen.
I'm so proud of my little Ed for finally drinking his milk 😭
This dub is pretty good
It's the fact he was getting taller and Al was having a harder time staying conscious :^)
I love this series so much! 🥺 these two are amazing
He getting taller cause Al getting his body back, so its a replacement for all the loss he get during the ritual
They both have matured so much since the early episodes. They always grow up so fast, don't they? 🥺
I love that you don't notice the development, as throughout the series, Ed is constantly surrounded by people who are technically giants.
One of my favorite things in this show was the fact they animated him getting more refined and taller through out every episode
i just watcged this and I SCREAMED SO LOUDDD WHEN I SAW ED GOT TALLER
It’s weird & cool at the same time to see Edward tall. Or at least taller than Winry.
I feel like he isn't surprised by Winry's outburst but more surprised that he's taller
When I look in the comments and I laugh because most people are making fun of him. It sad but funny, eds probably pissed, wait wait wait, I'll share this to him, one sec, k hope he's not to mad lol
Tamao Kogane sorry to break it to u but the nigga ain't real bro
Rising Wind
You don't know that do you
We are referring to Vic Mignogna
No matter how many times I watch this show or rewatch scenes I literally never get over how he tells her that she doesn’t know when to shut up
He GREW!! It's a MIRACLE!!
Everyone’s talking about eds height, but no one to talk about what a couple these to look like
Ed getting hot asf am i right😂😭he was sooo cute when he was younger
Man i absolutely loved it. Remember binge watching it years ago. It was pretty much an all nighter but worth it tbh. Zero complaints. Loved each and everything about it.
It’s not just his height. He looks more mature too. You can see it in his face and build. His face is sharper and his body looks like a man’s now. Same with Winry. Her face is a bit sharper and more defined and her body is less like a girl’s and more like a woman’s.
