Still one of the most iconic-slash-romantic scenes, much much more than any typical cringy romance anime w/ over-"cuteness" can ever hope to achieve. Just this 3 minute scene is more genuine and heartfelt than the rest of those garbage anime with many episodes of pseudo romance.
Because in FMA romance isn't the main focus, and small sweet moments like this one are very rare and just sprinkled in a little bit as fanservice, in a way, while also developing the characters. This is why the ending is so satisfying, it's because we got attached to them and wished that they would eventually live a carefree life where they would have time to think about small things like love and marriage.

Such a cute little scene. I especially love the end portrait. In the manga, it's a little more obvious that they're recreating the picture pose from when Ed and Al were kids...Winry's hair was even done in the same style as Trisha's (with a low tied ponytail). Ed's smiling face being a nice contrast to Hohenheim's crying one. Plus, Paninya and Garfield were not in the manga portrait, so it's implied a bit that Al and May might be paired together.
ed slowly grew taller than winry throughout the entirety of the series just for this scene to have a cute height difference between them and nothing will convince me otherwise

Well Nalu is HEAVILY implied by the end of the show and it only isn't said because that would be out of character for Natsu, plus if you look at how Natsu and Lucy behave over the course of the later arcs you'll see there's a good to fair chance they already got together off screen.
It would make me very happy if they would come out with just 1 ova of their life together after the events of brotherhood. I'm still extremely satisfied by this ending, but it would be that little cherry on top of the sundae

Love this scene and how this show portrayed a romance better in 1 scene than most show do in their runtime. No awkward love triangle, no will they/won’t they scenarios (or well, very few), no infidelity. Just 2 interdependent, strong, talented buddies that end up falling in love. Makes my heart soar and has to be one of my favorite scenes in anime
The series finale should have been 1 hour long, it felt rushed and they could've explained things like if Izumi got her organs back, and more EdWin screentime
Proposals in TV shows and movies are always corny and cliché, but this one right never gets old and is consistent with both character's personalities. Very well executed and planned out.

And it’s an honest laugh too. Not the “Ha-ha, we’re getting away from you.” Or a small chuckle, or a power drunk giggle like when he found out his automail arm in Briggs was a wonder to fight with. This is an honest belly laugh.
The picture honestly reminds me of the picture of Trisha and Hohenheim with Ed and Al as small children. It’s just that Ed is smiling (Hohenheim was crying) and there are more people in the background.

Edward looks so much like his dad in that jacket it’s uncanny. Also his family photo is directly apposed to his father’s family photo. Hohenheim’s family photo has him crying his eyes out and he doesn’t have anyone around him but in Edwards photo he has a massive smile and is surrounded by his friends. The writing in this show is insane.

READ THE REPLIES AND FULL COMMENT BEFORE COMMENTING, YOU'RE ALL MAKING THE SAME WRONG POINT. I think FMA is the only anime in which we actually see a character grow throughout the series. I get it's because it's crucial to the story, but still, it's just something we don't see. You all seem to be missing the point here, so let me rephrase. When I say "grow" I mean, physically grow, as in height. Episode to episode you can physically measure Edwards growth against Alphonse when they're standing side by side. The animation team and original Manga artists did such a good job growing hit as a realistic status. FMA you actually see the growth episode to episode, they even have episodes about Ed needing new autoparts because he's grown. Naruto stays the same size for the entire first series and then literally ages 2 years over the span of one episode. Same with Dragon Ball, Hunter X Hunter and Attack on Titan. Most anime's have the character as 5ft one episode and then timeskip a year the next episode and the character is 6ft and looks completely different. And no, FMA is not the first Anime I've watched, as of latest completion I've watch 216 different Animes, however I keep coming back to FMA becaaaaause, it's so good and the animation team care's so much.
Makes me laugh: Ed fought against homonculus, monsters, Scar, the Flame Alchemist, Kimblee, the Father, and whatever. He rushes into fight without thinking, always ready for this. He has given his arm with a lot of courage to save his brother' soul, trained fast and hard in one year, has been the youngest State alchemist of the world!!! But telling Winry he loves her........................................................................hun-hun... too frightened... 😂🤣
What I appreciate about this how Winry understood what he meant very quickly. Edward wanted to tell her but had difficulty finding the words. Truly coming together.

The voices just fit the characters better in the dub. The English voices really capture the English/German setting. And oh man, what a sweet ending. Hologram playing at the end really brought the feels.

Well Nalu is HEAVILY implied by the end of the show and it only isn't said because that would be out of character for Natsu, plus if you look at how Natsu and Lucy behave over the course of the later arcs you'll see there's a good to fair chance they already got together off screen.

Love this scene and how this show portrayed a romance better in 1 scene than most show do in their runtime. No awkward love triangle, no will they/won’t they scenarios (or well, very few), no infidelity. Just 2 interdependent, strong, talented buddies that end up falling in love. Makes my heart soar and has to be one of my favorite scenes in anime

Proposals in TV shows and movies are always corny and cliché, but this one right never gets old and is consistent with both character's personalities. Very well executed and planned out.

Both are really good. I liked the original bcuz they really brought a lot of focus and development to kimmly, lust, and scar. And had a unique story for the philosophers stone and hohenheims wife. It is like a different universe of fma sorta

Edward looks so much like his dad in that jacket it’s uncanny. Also his family photo is directly apposed to his father’s family photo. Hohenheim’s family photo has him crying his eyes out and he doesn’t have anyone around him but in Edwards photo he has a massive smile and is surrounded by his friends. The writing in this show is insane.

I think FMA is the only anime in which we actually see a character grow throughout the series.
I get it's because it's crucial to the story, but still, it's just something we don't see.
You all seem to be missing the point here, so let me rephrase.
When I say "grow" I mean, physically grow, as in height.
Episode to episode you can physically measure Edwards growth against Alphonse when they're standing side by side. The animation team and original Manga artists did such a good job growing hit as a realistic status.
FMA you actually see the growth episode to episode, they even have episodes about Ed needing new autoparts because he's grown.
Naruto stays the same size for the entire first series and then literally ages 2 years over the span of one episode.
Same with Dragon Ball, Hunter X Hunter and Attack on Titan.
Most anime's have the character as 5ft one episode and then timeskip a year the next episode and the character is 6ft and looks completely different.
And no, FMA is not the first Anime I've watched, as of latest completion I've watch 216 different Animes, however I keep coming back to FMA becaaaaause, it's so good and the animation team care's so much.
Dragon ball, although it's mainly done across several time skips.

People upset they didn't kiss, but I feel holding someone close is a much better gesture at showing your feelings. Kissing is overdone in these moments in shows. It was a good choice in my opinion.
