The most painful scene in anime ever. Now that I think of it I think ed is the only character in the history of anime to go through as much pain as he has throughout his life.
The first time I saw this episode and saw the pole through Ed’s stomach I was like “Oh crap. This sucks” The way he used himself without knowing he’s actually a philosopher Stone is awesome
When I saw that I simply thought that he was for to stubborn to die even if he had to transmute the pole and his wound just to have to deal with blood poisoning after dragging himself to Briggs HQ
I love the comrardery of this version of FMA like literally everyone who helps Ed has taken some form of kindness from him and gives it back to him twofold
Absolutly one of my favorite scenes. It really showcases Ed's fortitude and perseverance to remain a good person no matter what he suffered. Its just amazing. I love this beautiful show and its amazing quality
That’s just crushing to watch. The determination, the sacrifice, and then the utter pointlessness of it . You can’t help what you don’t know, but having a stone that close and not knowing about it almost seems like a cosmic insult
The first time I seen this I was in shock. The pain he must have been going through after realizing what happened is like wow. At first you have that adrenaline and then when it wears out you feel the pain. It must have been hard not to pass out or die from that cause he had to stay awake to heal himself. Good job voice actor for that voice. You nailed it that sounded....so awfully good.
I love how after he performs the transmutation the camera pans out and the characters appear to be in the middle of an eye like when the door is opened.

I know.....still it's sad
I would assume he lived alot longer in the original anime
If I remember correctly the last we saw him in that one he was like 100 or something :)
Fun fact, Edwards life span was already longer than usual as he shares hohenheim's DNA , and since he lived up to 100 in the 03 version (the 2005 ova) we can also assume he wouldve lived that long in amestris, so his life span was cut short but probably not noticeably short, probably the regular life span 45-60 instead of 70-100, we can assume maybe Alphonse lived that long,
2:56 WOW that would help about 10 seconds ago
carlos salazar Ed wouldn't have used it though
Top notch voice acting, Vic. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The lines of
"Remember what it felt like at that moment. REMEMBER HOW IT FELT TO USE SOULS TO HARNESS LIFE" fucking gets me everytime and Idk why
Eds yell always gives me goosebumps and it makes me sad 😔
The freaking screams in this scene were too good for something fictional. It genuinely hurt my heart, his voice sounded like he was in actual pain, yet it's a voice actor in a recording booth doing the scene. Freaking good acting.
Me from 0:00-2:08: *crying*
2:09-2:43: Whew...
2:45-2:54: AAAHHH!!!
2:55-onward: *flips table in frustration*
This scene made me very emotional, in case that wasn't clear.
You should drink some tea Madeline.
FMAB does a good job at that
So glad this happened within the context of the story. I almost can’t put into words how vital a scene like this is. 👍 Vic Did such an superb job.
Those monsters were more human than the people that run the military (except Bradley)
Bradley WAS human. And he was the most inhuman human in the military.
If you were referring to Bradly because he's a homunculus, remember, he's a homunculus-controlled human, just like Ling/Greed. Human Body, Homunculus controlled.
If you were referring to Bradly cause he SEEMED okay.....remember, he was the most evil of the bunch. When Hughes died, he wasn't trembling with grief at the funeral. He was trembling with rage cause Hughes daughter was crying, and it annoyed the piss out of him. He staged the war with Ishval, and then armed his men with fake philosopher stones to make sure their slaughter was as great as possible. He was TRAINED to be this way, as we see with the failed "King Bradley's" near the end of the show. The men is PURE EVIL, and Bradley was the best of the worst.
@@fyrelord7826 yeah, but he was also the only one that experienced love amongst them. He actually cared for his wife but he didn’t know it. (Greed also just wanted friendship)

I just remember finding this to be such an intense episode, especially because of this scene. I felt so bad for Edward here, but he's such a trooper.
al’s recruitment method: be the most pure human alive
ed’s recruitment method: be a chad
I could write an essay about all the reasons why I love this scene.
When Ed says "I'm a philosophers stone powered by a single soul," I start crying. Just from the pain and determination in his voice. Whoever says Ed's English voice actor isn't good is crazy
Darius: Your guts have got to be all messed up, you're going to need to use a philosopher stone to make this work.
Edward: I'm going to have to use my own life force like a philosopher stone. Not like I have a choice.
Later on; Heinkel: Hey, look a philosopher stone.
Edward: FUCK.
The most painful scene in anime ever. Now that I think of it I think ed is the only character in the history of anime to go through as much pain as he has throughout his life.
Yeah sure😅
The first time I saw this episode and saw the pole through Ed’s stomach I was like
“Oh crap. This sucks”
The way he used himself without knowing he’s actually a philosopher Stone is awesome
When I saw that I simply thought that he was for to stubborn to die even if he had to transmute the pole and his wound just to have to deal with blood poisoning after dragging himself to Briggs HQ
Glad we got the GameBoy Advance SP edition uploaded to RUclips
I just realized that during this whole process ed didn't shed a single tear...
The music here is so beautiful and hit at every moment it needed to hit.
This is so touching. I love these scenes. The whole anime is awesome the creators did a very good job.
Tbh these two are goated villains turned heros type guys, underrated side characters
Truth must've spotted him a bit for this one, according to some after series drawings, he makes it to 88.
This is probably one of my favorite scenes
Do you know what chapter it is?
This show was so fucking well written.
That’s just crushing to watch. The determination, the sacrifice, and then the utter pointlessness of it . You can’t help what you don’t know, but having a stone that close and not knowing about it almost seems like a cosmic insult
Ed wouldn't have used it anyway. He swore not to.
I love how people said that he could have just used the stone. But, even if they had it, he wouldn't have used other souls but his own
I remember this scene in the manga being so emotional... they nailed it in the anime too! Supurb job!
Edward elric such a goated protagonist one of the best of all time
This show has so much angst, it’s great for us writers 😌
Okay, I've seen this scene a million times already. I can handle it. *watches video* DANG IT FMAB!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!?!
It's like the death of Hughes no matter how many times you see no matter how much you mentally prepare it still hits you like a semi-truck
This is why Edward elric deserves a harem
Dear god his will is so strong, such a great main character. This shows writing never ceases to amaze me
this is the most saddest part fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
I love how after he performs the transmutation the camera pans out and the characters appear to be in the middle of an eye like when the door is opened.
I love how his hair just stuck up aftet
I guess this is just gonna show up on my feed 9 years later at 5 AM before a test, huh
*gets impaled by steel*
Ed: Oh no
Also Ed: anyway
Everyones talking about how there was a stone just a few feet away, but you know that even if he knew it was there, Ed wouldn't have used it.
"Ive gotta picture myself as a single mass of ener-AGHHHHH!!!!!!"
_You Died._
This Show is so good, a simple Idea like a Metalpiece stuck inside your Body and you have to heal it whitout Dying. Its such a big Deal and so painfull, and thats great, its one of the most intense Scenes in the Story.
And Storywhise, it repressented the Toll Ed had to pay for the Decition to not kill. He does not get rewarded, he imideatly gets tested, and despite the Result he does not changes his Mind.
Thats why he gains Kimbleys Respect later.
There is way not enough talking about this scene in this fandom, but it feels somehow important (It's at least somehow the scene out of the whole Anime that somehow stuck with me the most). Like, I want fanfics of people (Mustang. I mean Mustang.) reacting to hearing about this. Like, Ed mentions it offhandedly and people react. Ya know?

🙊Anyone got any fics for me🙊
Love how this was in recommendations, it's been years since I've watched FMAB❤
fun fact: Hiromu Arakawa wrote this scene in the manga to represent the pain she went through when giving birth to her first child
Women really do be this dramatic
Grognak The Destroyer+ No, I think this is a fair comparison.
@@rikiishitoru8885 do you, not know how painful child birth is?
@@rikiishitoru8885 I'm pretty sure childbirth can be pretty painful, though I'm not a female, I would imagine having constant contractions for hours on end pushing the baby out I think can be really painful.
I'm not saying it isn't painful, I just don't think it's comparable to being impaled through the gut by a giant metal rod
Very painful scene. But also nice, Ed's mercy gets the Chimeras on his side and they help him till the end. I personally like the four chimeras. They're side characters, but they get some get some deep moments especially the lion when he gives Al the stone and learns the boy won't give up on him.
I saw the sub version of this and it's honestly not the same. With the dub you can hear how much in pain Edward is suffering from the pole being pulled out. Dub wins this for me.
Vic did an awesome job as Edward Elric! I wish he’s back in acting I’m standing by him wether people like it or not. He’s the nicest guy my husband would agree he’s generous to make sure we’re doing well cause we have Covid-19 we already pulled through this together Vic kept us in his prayers he’s glad we’re recovered. He has our respect we stand with Vic till the end. Plus he’s innocent
