- Well, that was quick, our cheap Fisker Karma already has some issues with a check engine light. We bought this rare exotic hybrid dirt cheap at salvage auction, so it was by far the cheapest in the USA. Only $16,200 for a car that was once over $100,000. Looks like the codes are showing it needs a new hybrid battery pack?? That sounds expensive, can we fix it? It's 1 of 2,500 made, so this is definitely one of the craziest sedans money can buy, we tons of funny reactions while driving.

Is it individual batteries cells like a tesla? Fisker and Tesla worked together at one point, so maybe they both have individual batteries cells that can be replaced???
Could it be related to the broken cells on the roof? Maybe that's what it's saying to replace.
I was actually thinking about that... Maybe it's not working so it's just throwing out that code..
On the roof is a PV module, not a hybrid battery pack. Two different things.
That engine code might be related to the issue with your roof

Maybe that's why the original battery was replaced the first time. It's throwing a false code.

Karma LLC will probably still service fiskers at their factory if you ask them nicely they are located in moreno valley Ca. I've been here and they are really nice. they will also give you a goodie bag!!!!!!

Maybe it’s a code from when they replaced the battery last time? Might not have synced it fully when they installed it.

There is a black plug on top of the front right wheel under the hood. Disconnect and wait for 1 minute then reconnect. It will reboot the whole system and should take care of it.
Such an awesome car that Fisker went belly up. I wish you guys luck. It is pretty I will give it that, it looks unique, too bad that performance and features didn't match the look. Nice video fellas
You guys have dealt with worst issues that became ez fixes, I’m sure the karma will be the same. I think this car is very cool, love the alien ship sound. I’d love to drop off and pick up my kids in this car
I always loved the fisker karma such a beautiful car reliability always was a question but definitely needs to be one of the cars in my fleet
Its probably your coupler, which happen when the engine light is on but you an still run it on the battery. Heres a test try using the engine and if it doesn't come on its your coupler. Do a reset and wait 5 minutes

could a coat of clear epoxy cover the solar panel and prevent it from further deterioration and negate the need for replacing it?

LS or maybe a Honda Vtec swap. And Tesla motors'n battery pack. The re-wiring will cause a headache, but the end result would be aaa-mazing 🏁🏎️ 👍
You can't clear the Battery ECM code without the Fisker scan tool. YOu can try unplugging the battery and doing a hard reset on the car but more then likely you have a dropped cell. Did you recently run the battery down to near zero charge? If so that probably did it. You should never let the battery go below 20%. Ty to keep it between 20%-80% charge. You can just replace the bad cell but like I said you need the special scan tool to find out which on to replace.

Great purchase. It’s probably the best designed car in the world. I follow you guys on your journey with this Fisker Karma. I have one. And it has had its fair share of expensive replacements. And I have one of the latest manufactured. The future I see picking up a 100kwh to 120 kWh battery pack as replacement. So much development around the globe on this topic. So something pops up for sure. I’d like to throw out the engine and place batteries there too. However that may mess up the system too much. Plus replace rear camera and add a front camera and sensor. Plus a much better touch screen. Then most problems will be solved. And it will remain the most beautiful first luxury EV in the world for decades to come. Keep it up...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Add larger turbo & straight pipe it. Aftermarket wheels with these body lines this car would break necks. It's a nice car, nobody has one modified that I've seen. Make it happen!!
It is a cool looking car. Hopefully you found out the problem wasn't too expensive to repair. For $16,000 one cant blame you for taking the chance on buying it.

When searching for engine parts or doing a tuneup, use the 2012 Chevy Cobalt SS as it is the exact same engine

Don't charge it to full, might even recommend you park it somewhere else as well until you get that code sorted out.
Wouldn't want to risk it burning down your warehouse. Can't imagine what y'alls insurance premiums are currently. Let alone what it would increase to if you have a warehouse burn down causing millions in damage.

Pull the engine and battery pack and solar panels, DO A SWAP.. Put a 1UZFE and carbon fiber hood! It would be sooo sick and a 1 of a kind karma as well

If it was parked a long time in the Copart lot maybe it needs a few cycles for the battery to regen a little bit

check the 12v battery - a depleated 12v battery that can cause seriously weird malfunctions and codes on any electric car as the boot-up cycle gets interrupted. It is unlikely that there is a battery degradation issue as it would not appear as a fault. Inside the battery pack there are only a few things: the actual batteries - they most lilikely fine. A precharge resistor - if that was burned out, the car would not start in electric mode for sure. The contactors - the same, the car would not start if they were bad. It must be something with jump-starting the car. You probably need to do some hard reset on the hybrid drivetrain module or on the dc-to-dc converter.

If you want a REAL scooter (sit down) that’s electric you should check out Niu (pronounced new). I have the Ngt and I love it! Goes 50mph. Fairly inexpensive and tons of fun. I get looks and waves and questions everywhere I go. More so than any other vehicle I’ve owned. Also you can charge from the wall or remove the batteries and take them inside to charge. If you take them inside and charge while you’re at work you never have to pay a dime to drive. It has an app that it pairs to. You can run diagnostics checks, see your charge levels, past rides and even track its location if it’s stolen, all from your phone. I think they look pretty cool too.

It has electrical issues. If you try to switch on the head lights, you don't get them on the car itself, but on the neighboring building.
Karma name is there for a reason...
This smells like insurance fraud. Weird that roof exploded at the same time as all these problems accorded;)

For the passenger that says the infrastructure for EV's isn't there, I do have a solution. I drove cross country in an EV about 1 year after you shot this video. I did a lot of research and bought a 2020 BMW i3s REX. REX means range extension. It gets 180miles on electric and that's on a level road at 65mph with no heat or AC on. After 180, or it's better to NOT drain all the EV miles, in fact you can't as at 6.5% battery charge left the range extender comes on. What the ranger extender is is a small scooter engine that does NOT spin the wheels it powers a generator and the generator maintains the state of charge. Now you have to be careful because going uphill at 75mph the generator can't generate enough electric to maintain the state of charge. I drove the car from New Jersey, down to North Carolina and then to Phoenix. One HUGE blessing, for the passenger who said the infrastructure is not there, he's correct. Electrify America does not do a good job maintaining their equipment, many times some of the chargers are out of service. Also the demand. I took a recent trip over Christmas/New Year and I turned on the REX to pass one charging station with a 3 car waiting line. And continued on past a second charging stations with a 4 car waiting line. If you think of it, for example. the 4 car waiting line. Each car needs 30 mins, and that's if people are polite and charge to 80%. 4 cars waiting at 30 mins each that's 2 hrs plus the car that was currently charging plus my 30mins would mean I would be there for 3 hrs. OUCH. So, a pure EV is a problem. PLUS, I hate Tesla's. Too many, too minimalistic, too common. Many say the BMW i3 is ugly, in fact I said that, now I own one. I am looking at a Fisker Karma so saw your review. I might grab one, not sure yet. Nice video.

Why don't you guys try unplugging the battery and leaving it out for 24 hours , then plug it back in ? Your idling may go fuzzy though. This may fix it if it is throwing false positives.
Go to see rich rebuilds at the electrified garage see if he can fix your battery
Maybe disconnecting the terminals(if possible) helps.
Some sticky codes will clear then more often.
Fisker expert here, P0A80 is not a serious fault. Sound like to me that you guys have never had it updated to the new software. That code is for a state of health fault, which for some cars comes on due to time, not an actual fault. Jave the car updated to 520/530/535 software and it will be good to go. I work on Fiskers everyday up in San Francisco, you should take a road trip to have me sort it out for you.
