    ☕ the CSR is probably over the Amex plat to me since the $300 credit is basically instant and priority pass restaurants is something people should look closely at their home and destination airports since they offer higher value and no crowding vs the lounges. The earn rate on Amex platinum is basically nothing unless it's through Amex as well. The CSR is a combination earner and benefits card with easy to utilize benefits.

    One thing Sebby does that is great is letting you know that your best choice depends on how you use the card. For me, I travel Delta often and go through lots of places that either have Sky Lounges or Centurion lounges, so I get a ton of use from that aspect of my Platinum card. I don’t travel to places that have Capital lounges, so for that particular benefit, Platinum trumps Venture X (for me). I do make use of the other Amex benefits, so it works for me. That is the key. Find the card that works for you.

    I'm sad for the CSR. It was the perfect card back when it was $450/year. But at $550, it makes no sense. Glad to see Venture X stepped up with its offering. Not perfect, but good enough to challenge the big boys.

  • @Spydah3kgt

    ☕ My issue with the Venture X is that all purchases must go through their travel portal. Typically, travel portals seem to have a premium on prices along with a hassle if anything goes sideways (having to call the card company instead of dealing directly with the hotel/airline agent).
    Given LAS (and previously SEA) is my home airport, Plat is an easy win with lounge access alone.

    The CSR is in dire need of a retooling and a massively improved SUB. I love Chase's ecosystem, but the Venture X, combined with CapitalOne's lounge quality, are definitely going to bring in some competition for it. I'm more than 48 months since I got my Sapphire Preferred and I'm downgrading it for another Sapphire soon, but if they don't boost up its quality, the reserve is an easy pass.

    • @jarrod499
      @jarrod499 Год назад +2

      The problem is that the domestic lounge scene in the United States with Priority Pass is bad capital one’s fix for this is opening their own lounge, net network Chase’s is fix for this is to keep Priority Pass restaurants. I know, I get more excited about going to a lounge, then getting a restaurant credit. The other issue is the CSR has an annual fee without any offsetting credits for part of it.

    • @Timmones
      @Timmones Год назад

      @@jarrod499 This is straight up misinformation. First of all, Chase has their own lounge network too. In the USA, they have a Boston location and have them coming in Las Vegas, New York (LGA), Philadelphia (PHL), Phoenix (PHX), and San Diego (SAN). Also, the CSR certainly does have annual credits that offset its annual fee. They have a $300 annual credit that any travel expensive is eligible for. This is arguably better than the Capital One annual credit, especially since after Capital One's recent change of their annual credit where Capital One gives you $300 to spend on their portal (you earn no points on this spend), while Chase's is an actual reimbursement where you'll earn points and it can be used on anything from flights to parking to trains. I'm not knocking the Capital One Venture X. I have the card myself. I just wanted people to have accurate information.

      dont't forget the sapphrie reserve provides you with up to 20k trip insurance, and 100k medical insurance when traveling. if you toss up ~100-150 annually as an insurance fee, suddenly the sapphire reserve starts punching pretty hard.

    Even though most of my cards are with Chase I chose the Venture X over the CSR because it’s a complete no brainer. It’s easier to get more value than the annual fee, has a better bonus, and it gets you more guests into Priority Pass lounges.
    It’s not better in EVERY way, but it’s better for me in all the major areas. Maybe if I wanted priority pass restaurant access I would go for the reserve but otherwise I just think the VX makes more sense.

      I went for the Venture X as my first travel card in September 2023 after getting the Chase Freedom Unlimited in July 2023. Snagged a 90k SUB for the Venture X, and was able to easily hit the $4,000 spend in the first month for vacation items in 2024.
      I did go for the CSR over the CSP because of the Lyft Pink membership + 10x on Lyft rides (which is at least $100 in value for me), my expected spend on flights the next 2 years (over $5,000, including round-trip on long-haul business/first class for one vacation/year - over $100 in value in UR points), $60 in Doordash credits (which can be used for pickups), and Priority Pass restaurants and spas (~$25/year in value on average, factoring in PP lounges being at capacity). In year 3, I will look at my savings to see if the CSR is still valuable, especially as the Lyft Pink membership and 10x on Lyft rides is expiring - I might downgrade to the CSP by then to keep the Chase transfer partners, especially if I plan to use my points for redemptions, rather than purchase long-haul flights with cash.

    ☕ my issue with the Citi premier is that i use Costco almost exclusively for gas, so I'm stuck using a Visa card for that big category. Because of that, I wound up getting the Chase aeroplan card for groceries and then using whichever card gets me the highest bonus for gas at any given time, which is unfortunately often the citi Costco visa with a flat 4% cash back (unless a random chase card has an elevated points offer for gas that quarter)

    I've somehow ended up working with three card ecosystems - started out with AMEX & Chase; then got into Cap1 when the Venture X came out. I blame Sebby and having TONS of time to watch RUclips videos during the pandemic!! (Not really, but I have gained a few great tips to maximize the value of all the cards.) I'm also one to go for caffeine when traveling, and since we go through DFW as our main international airport, the Cap1 lounge was the tipping point for getting the VX and Savor One combo. ☕

    Sebby is sleeping on the CSR. convenience here is fantastic for earning, insurance on trips, travel credit for most of the annual fee, door dash and lyft pink. It has been a no Brainerd card for me where it is super easy to both earn and redeem at a really good rate. While technically it may not earn as much as say the Amex platinum, most of the CSR credits aren't monthly but annual. I don't need to shop outside of my norm or spend more money then I usually do in order to earn a bunch of points

    • @SHFMIA

      But it does not make sense if you need an authorized user. The benefits are similar to Venture X for much higher AF

    • @chijason6630
      @chijason6630 Год назад +4

      Same here for me, especially since I don't own a car and am a heavy Lyft user. I just got the CSR, and I will have the annual fee covered with the $300 travel credit, $100 of value over the CSP from the Lyft Pink + 10x on rides, $100 over the CSP from the 3x on travel, and $60 in credits from Doordash. Add in the Priority Pass restaurants & spas (not available with Amex or Capital One), and the CSR will cover the annual fee in the first 2 years, as long as the Lyft Pink membership & partnership is around.
      I still have the Venture X, which is easy to justify as a keeper card even with the CSR. $300 travel portal credit and 10k anniversary miles with transfer partners means I'm earning roughly $80/year when keeping the card. The 2x on everyday spend is great for non-bonused categories, guaranteeing me at least a 3.7% return when factoring in TPG's estimate of 1.85 cents/mile for Capital One miles.

    • @SightseeMC123
      @SightseeMC123 Год назад +1

      Meh, the CSR isn't really an earner once you're in the game pretty deeply. If you're working 2-5x categories, the CSR is easily beaten for spend, so it has to stand on the benefits which don't cover the $550 for most people. Anyway, it's easily below the VX even with the added difficulty's of VX's more difficult travel credit. With the VX you don't need to find another $250 worth of value "in order to earn a bunch of points" (and you get better base spend multiples than the CSR).

      It’s is a great card and the 10x on hotel through their portal is nice. I don’t think most people get this card looking to use door dash and lift pink honestly. The cards largest selling point for me is the lounge access, if you travel enough and visit enough lounges the card pays for itself. As for the multipliers the only useful one is the 3x travel, almost every card in my wallet already provides 3-5x on dining. Then again I get all the lounge access from the venture X and I’m paid to keep the card🤷‍♂️
      I also don’t find it too difficult to used the travel credit through the Cap1 portal, so convenience isn’t a problem for me.

      Personally, I'm going with the IHG Premier. I don't care about status or staying in 5-star hotels/resorts, and Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express is a perfectly acceptable hotel for me to stay in on vacation. I just want a private room with a clean bed and shower with air conditioning, free wi-fi, and a refrigerator (if I am staying for more than a few days).
      If you are a "free agent" or not chasing elite status, the IHG Premier card can provide incredible value for the $99 annual fee. I plan on booking hotels for 4 weeks of vacation next year after applying for the card in late January 2024, and will be able to hit the $3,000 in minimum spend just by booking IHG properties. The current SUB is 140k points, and with just over $3000 in spend ($3077 to be exact), I would earn 80k points, netting me 220k points from the SUB + spend. With plenty of availability at the Holiday Inn properties at 20k points, I would get 11 free nights from the SUB. The real cherry on top is the 4th free night on redemptions of 3 nights (buy 3 get 1 free), essentially getting me 3 extra nights from the SUB. This nets me 2 whole weeks of hotel stays in the future from under $3200 in spend (if you include the $99 annual fee).
      Best of all, the IHG Premier comes with an anniversary free night worth up to 40k points ($200), so even after the SUB, the card provides value. If you fly United at all, the card comes with $50 in United Travel Bank cash each year ($25 every 6 months), which can be used when booking a flight directly through United Airlines.

    Why do all the credit cards have the credits that we don’t use
    I don’t do Uber I don’t do any of the eating places that you mentioned
    We don’t work out
    So yes the none fee ones will work
    I only travel once a year for 2 months over seas to Italy and Ireland

    Are the rumors true - that Citi plans to launch a new Travel Card to compete with AmEx, Chase, and C1 ? I personally love my Citi Custom Cash cards (I have 2 of them) and my Double Cash card. I would love something better than the Premier to dump all my points onto!!

    ☕️ LOL, this whole video is confirmation bias for me, I have all of the winners and runners up save for the United Quest, CSP and Venture (and I had a Venture once before it turned into a VentureX).
    I think the Delta Gold gets slept on a bit, 15% off award flights can be pretty valuable, no annual fee in year one, downgrade path to a Blue. But hard to disagree with anything.

    If Capital One adds more lounge, then without a doubt Venture X. Essentially, it is $95 for 10K pts, Capital One lounge (no coverage so not worth mentioning), and priority pass for 4 people (only valuable overseas)
    Amex Platinum: Centurion Lounge + Delta Skyclubs (great coverage), CLEAR. Just counting airline, Uber, and Hotel credit, we are at $95. Not to mention the Hulu, Saks. Maybe downside is no AUs nowadays. But I rather pay for a card that does something, rather than pay nothing and get nothing.

    As good as the Venture X seems, I won't be able to use their transfer partners in the near future so I have to pass on the Capital One trio. I am going for the CIP and Platinum in 2024.
