I was shocked that you didn't complain about the infotainment as much as I thought you would. I hope to see you guys in a 350h or 450h+ in the future. Keep up the good work with these top notch reviews.
For me, 3 key difference from the RAV4 that makes the Lexus much more rigid and yet firm- 1) laser welded continuous weld instead of spotweld for critical joints 2) 1180MPA ultra high tensile steel on key structural parts 3) rear double wishbone suspension (RAV4 uses multi links)
Isn’t multi link the same as double wishbone rears? Because I remember the 2018 Camry had a double wishbone rear suspension but now they have multi link rears?

Here’s the summary The nx is nice but it’s a missed opportunity. It’s disappointing compared to the venza or even the ES. it finds itself not being terribly competitive
The infotainment race is so interesting to watch. Companies that for YEARS seemed to not care are all of a sudden adding screens upon screens. Hopefully it all works 5 years from now 😅
ONE THING -- Superior Lexus Resale value. Consumer Reports (I know, I know) just rated Lexus numero uno in overall owner satisfaction -- again. The Lexus build quality and mechanical reliability is beyond reproach. Absolutely phenomenal. Lease a Audi or BMW for a few years but PURCHASE a Lexus for the long term. Lexus and Toyota are good investments as vehicles go.
I would also say that resale values on Outback’s are equally good. Notice how those with amazing resale values aren’t German or domestic brands. Pretty telling
That's brilliant 4:00 capacitive to show what you're pressing in the HUD, but you're not going to accidentally hit something . Also minimizing the need to glance down at your steering wheel to figure out what button you're trying to hit.
Being Toyota, they had this down years ago. Check out the "touch tracer" buttons on the 2010 Prius. Not multi page of functions like here, but the same touch to HUD interface.
Another surprise release caught me in the middle of my very important business meeting! I had to drop it to watch this! You guys are unpredictable, that doesn't go well with your premium audience!
The advantages of this new NX model vs. competitors are really its Hybrid (350H) and Plug-In (450H+) variants. None of their German and Korean counterparts can compete with the reliability and reputation of Toyota's hybrid drivetrains.
@@naveenthemachine by the same logic, why buy electric cars when you're rich ? you don't care about the environment or saving fuel costs like all those economy hybrid drivers, might as well as get the luxury and convenience of a normal luxury car than an electric car with cheaply built interiors and thin seats.
I test drove all three trim levels and will go with the 250 if I decide to purchase. I was quoted a price of 42k for that trim level and can't understand for the life of me why folks would pay thousands more for a turbo or hybrid engine. The 350 isn't only roughly 50k but it only takes premium gas. The hybrid was fine, but it isn't going to outlast a naturally aspirated engine. I live in the Chicago area where it is rare for a dealer to get a 250, so I will need to travel to Indiana or Kentucky to buy a 250 but I think it's worth it.
Ecvt на самом деле это планетарный редуктор. Он похож по поведению на вариатор, но конструкция как у раздаточного моста. Это самый надежный тип коробки на сегодня. Он надежней даже ручной коробки
Why bother? Get a Toyota RAV4 or venza. Forget the nx. Get the gv70. The gv70 has essentially ended and destroyed the nx. The gv70 is “the new Lexus NX”
Good choice! The Lexus is by far the only PROVEN true reliable car here hands down and will be worth more when you are ready to sell. Currently, the gv has had multiple recalls that includes "exploding seatbelts"!
My buddy has one he loves this car more than any other brand and maybe he’s right you don’t need supreme fuel you can treat it as a corolla and still be better lauxury than other
Another great review on a car I have almost no interest in. I'd recommend the NX 450h to my grandmother, but she's happy with her diesel E-Class and honestly shouldn't be driving anymore.
I test drove the 450h+ and oh my… it drives like a small car, looks quite good at any angle, and quite peppy. The car moves like a light car despite its size. It’s comfortable, and loved the cockpit feel. I placed deposits at multiple dealers in hopes to get one I want. Sheesh it’s so hard to get one now.
I think they take a while to build but then I guess that is why it's reliable. They don't rush like say Tesla where they are happy to put out cars with gaps etc

I've owned a 2024 NX350 for a year now (replaced a 2019 RDX). I would have liked to keep the RDX but significant other wasn't in love with the RDX ,which had a superior ride, better seats and a spare tire. There's no denying the appeal of the NX's creature comforts and tech as well as responsiveness and smoothness of the engine and transmission. Some less desireable features include the run=-lat tires, absence of spare tire and over-reliance on touch controls. You couldn't pay me to buy into the reliability and operating costs of your more favoured BMW, AUDi and Genesis suvs and that is from someone who enjoys a drivers car (2021Miata). Thanks for the review - I enjoy your reviews and perspectives.
It would be good if you could also review companion apps for these new cars. As they tend to expend and add more functionality to it and frankly some of it is very useful to the point that it might be decision making sometimes (pre-cooling/heating, summoning from garage, different profiles etc)
Specifically some manufacturers apps that are outdated and not useful enough in any way. Like Porsche's app for example. It can look nice and show u ur vehicle in a 3d image, the specs/additional equipment but it is not up to date. I guess for some cars ppl don't even bother with the companion apps unless they're really useful!

Didn't watch this review several months ago. I would compare this to a CX-5. For around $4000 more for an NX 350 with just convenience package, I'm strongly considering this.
Speaking from Polish perspective I was cross shopping BMW X3/NX/BMW 2 Active Tourer/3 Series/RAV4/Lexus ES with long term highway cruising in mind I could not find any other product better for it than NX. Lexus packs even the most basic ones with Adaptive cruise and lane keep assist as standard (which to me is a must have), at entry pricerange all BMWs except for X3 have cloth seats and are pretty gutless. Even X3 has basic 184hp engine. Lexus residuals make 20% difference with finance in the current climate, it has much nicer alcantara like/leather mix seats, much bigger infotainment (albeit weird aspect ratio), much better speakers and decent ride. ES basic model is a bit over 20% more expensive here. In the end the biggest gripe I had shopping in 2023 for a car was finding one that wasnt stupidly configured and well...available to purchase right away.
I would go for ES Business Edition. Or sorry Premium brands lovers Passat B9. Big, long wheel base and dual valve suspension. In B8 272 hp sound isolation is better then Lexus and VW is much faster.
I would probably choose it over most other similar cars due to my family's good experiences with the brand and possible lower total cost of ownership. Solid if unremarkable
@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 Subjective, still..but the Asian market as a whole provides better value and running costs. @@joe718gt4 Yea nothing wrong with that! They have trusted reliability, lower maintenance costs..that's why I'll stick with at least 1/2 Japanese or Korean cars.
Its tough, unless we go through dealers or ask viewers getting used cars is nearly impossible from oems. So unless its a enthusiast legacy product its often not worth it for us
All the cars that you mentioned BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the GV70 …none of them give a 39 miles per gallon gas mileage, like the NX 350h does and not to mention that the NX will outlive all of these cars when it comes to reliability.
Exactly. Our 2024 NX hybrid is coming in 3-4 weeks. Cross shopped this against Venza Limited, RAV4 Prime, CX5, CX50, Macan base, X3, RDX…..still love the fact that the NX hybrid gets 40MPG.
If all you care about is gas mileage this is the vehicle for you. There is way too much competition and this falls short and sad to say this is no Lexus in any kind of way. When you think of Lexus you think quality not black gloss plastics. I would skip this vehicle and buy the ES 350 if you're looking for a quality Lexus.
@@Mike-cq7vv 100%. We bought the NX350h because of 40MPG and that the only NX variant we considered, except the NX450H+, but at $60K MSRP I just couldn’t justify spending that much. The fact of the matter is Toyota Hybrid is still the king of Efficiency and Reliability, nothing more nothing less. We also have a ES350, this baby LS is by far the most reliable and comfortable car we have driven at its price point.
The NX does it's job, and does it fairly well. Provides a good, solid user experience, a comfortable ride and good fuel economy. No one will be riding this thing above speed limits, no ones taking it to a track, they just want something to get them from point a to b with style and this full heartedly delivers. The "cheapness" of the interior won't be noticed by the buyers, especially younger ones. This is coming from a guy who hasn't cared about a lexus since 2007 when the LX was brand new. Also the 350 moving to a turbo 4 is the death of the NA 3.5v6 for lexus. Now we just have the turbo 3.5 in the rwd vehicles and we can kiss the 5.0 goodbye
I have to sit in one, but I think this is the first touch-based seat controls that I don't instantly hate. The positioning along the bottom row of the screen means the buttons are isolated from the rest of the controls, and I think it's a one-glance interaction, with the ability to brace your hand against something that is not a screen or button, much like some physical control layouts.
To sum up this review. The NX is a great car. Its problems are that the GV70 and X3 are excellent cars. A fancy screen isn’t going to improve the ride quality that makes its competitors or even stablemate the ES better to drive. IMO, I wish they added the V6 for the 350 trim. In real world driving, turbocharged four cylinders don’t improve on mpg that much.
But outsales genesis mercedes bmw audi acura jaguar volvo and all american luxury brands.to sum up.nx is not flashy but offers true luxury and very good performance on the phev.so good bye .
@@rightlanehog3151 true But I think this generation honestly the venza still outclasses it inside. Even my v6 Camry XSE beats the new nx as well. The center panel doesn’t have stitching in the nx but the Camry and venza both offer it lol
Comment on Toyota CVT. I have the new Venza. Max mpg conservative driving on flat terrain, 55 mpg. No fun though. I now drive 100% in sport mode, get 32-35 mpg. Lot of fun though, Can’t tell it’s CVT. Fast launch off the stop, as both the electric and gas kick in together. A slingshot effect. When I say in sport mode, I mean changing it digitally on the dashboard to sport mode. I don’t mean the S on the shifter. I don’t understand that S on the shifter. I tried it once, and the engine realty whined.
Excellent presentation, and putting the NX into perspective relative to its competitors. I'm generally pleased to see the reception it's getting, and the new infotainment has brought them up to par with just about everyone else if you ask me, if not better. If they could put this system into the ES, it'd definitely be the easy buy for me over any other vehicle thus far.
Well the reviewers say otherwise. Sofyan from redline said the nx interior and the nx350 turbo leave a bit to be desired. The nx250 has the same noisy 4 cylinder as the RAV4 Motortrend and Edmunds said the nx might still not be competitive and it’s no class leader by any means.
@@naveenthemachine Allow me to rephrase. I'm pleased that it's a step up over the last NX. They certainly put work into improving the tech, it's on par with everyone else I feel as far as interface, and ergonomics are concerned what put into perspective with other touch-centric infotainment systems. Yet just like SG mentions here, despite using the same platform, it's nowhere near as refined as the ES, even in its Luxury trim, which to me, is disappointing. If you ask me, this feels like a stopgap while they leadup to RZ. To be real with you I'm not even someone that gravitates towards the best options (which people conflate with the Germans) in a segment, I like different. I'm not a CUV buyer, I'd rather have a sedan, but even if I was, NX unfortunately doesn't do that for me. That would be GV70 for similar money to this, or hell, even something like the Alfa Stelvio if I really wanted something different.
@@Smychavo I prefer sedans too haha. The nx is an improvement no doubt but with really stiff competition from other brands including the new kid on the block genesis it’s becoming harder to justify that the nx is really competitive. They didn’t take the nx to the next level over a RAV4 or venza. Heck tbh the venza I think is the better nx
@@naveenthemachine I think the Venza is great for what it is too, arguably as good as the NX for slightly less money just about if we're ignoring the infotainment. Genesis still has work to convince others to buy into it despite their parity with others for a luxury experience (much of the same can be said with alot of the other 'B tier' luxury brands if you ask me), but I could realistically see myself in a G80 or G90.
@@Smychavo also have you seen the new RZ? It’s an absolute disappointment and dismal failure before anyones driven it. The range is so bad, power isn’t great, it’s tiny inside, and I wouldn’t say it’s attractive to the same level as the Ioniq5 or ev6

@@dcarts5616 Update, I received the car and I got into an accident. My exact configuration was AWD, 20 inch wheels, non performance pack, no leather interior, plus pack and pilot pack. The Polestar 2 is very sturdy and stable, whether you are doing high speed lane change or quick turns the car always feels like it has plenty of grip and you feel little G force. A very specific aspect that stood out for me is the smoothness of the car, with or without regen on, you could easily come into a full stop and you won't feel the transition from moving to stationary. The acceleration is plentiful and non jerky. Here comes the bad points, The vehicle is cramped both the front and rear seats doesn't feel like it has much room to stretch around. It's very easy to head your head while going in or out of the vehicle. The cup holder situation is idiotic, the rearview is bad but you could get used to it. The suspension doesn't handle broken/uneven pavement well, I would almost rate it the same as a model 3. It does beats its EPA range depending on your driving style, especially in the city. All in all, the Polestar 2 is pretty good but its neither a performance nor a grand touring vehicle. Its interior feels somewhat premium but the choice of material is subpar. It's sitting in a strange place where it excels at nothing other than the smoothness.
The 51K price tag for Luxury will likely be higher since it can still exclude popular options that really should have been part of the package, such as heated steering wheels, advanced park, Mark Levinson stereo, etc. When I price these in as well to get a fully loaded Lexus it comes to $57,000.
For 57K I’d blindly go for an is500 because you get a bespoke platform and a ferocious sounding 5.0L v8 472hp. That sounds like a better deal than spending 60K to get 300hp

I think the interior is more luxurious in the Camry and it has a v6 that’s smoother quieter better sounding better mpg more refined isolated Oh and it’s way faster than the nx turbo and it handles way better and rides way better
Where I live this a model that get stolen in dozens every day. Cars now are so easy to steal without not even breaking anything. This has become a huge issue in the automotive market of today. I wish Savagegeese would make an episode on this topic.
@@naveenthemachine … as an owner of a 2020 A-Spec RDX, I wish this was available when I was shopping. Build quality of Acura is disappointing with so many rattles and other interior noises. Transmission is quick to shift, but not the smoothest. Road isolation is also not as good as I’d expect from a premium vehicle. SH-AWD is the biggest (honestly, only) advantage it has over the refreshed NX in my opinion.
Regarding infotainment, I feel most makers don't know how to optimize. They just keep adding more and more layers, animations ect. Really bogging down. Think of a 1st gen iPhone or iPod touch. I'd be willing to bet the processors in new cars are much faster, yet can't handle scrolling basic UI
But they have no choice the cars have more features than ever. More things "some" people want to turn off. You either have 40+ buttons like a Porsche or previous gen Acura. The other option is to layer the GUI. With functions you might change regularly on top and everything else deeper in the menus. This happens everywhere in tech. 1st gen iphone vs iPhone 13?
I think the shape of the frame around the touch screen looks odd.. why is it so wide at the top with all that empty space between the edge of the actual display and the frame?..
Interesting analysis guys! I'm disappointed though. I got an NX300 about a year ago as a loaner when my GX was in the shop, and I was really impressed by the sporty dynamics. I'm surprised this new one didn't do it for you.
I own a 2016 200t F-Sport Series 3 (the best handling version of the previous gen)...there are no sporty dynamics. Why did I buy one? Reliability, as this will be a long term ownership vehicle and compared to the Rav4 at the time it wasn't massively underpowered (235hp/258tq vs 176hp/172tq). I now also own a 2021 Macan GTS and used to own a 2008 Rav4 v6 AWD Limited...so I know what is and isn't sporty dynamics lol
The NX 350h sounds like the best bet as the FWD orientation is a compromise to begin with. The NX 250 will be slaughtered when they release it to the press for review.
Well the nx250 has the same noisy engine as the rav4 and Camry so of course it’s gonna be slaughtered I agree the nx350h is the best nx to get. Screw the 250, 350, 450h+
The NX250 makes no damn sense. The 350h is only $1500 more in MSRP over a 250 AWD. The 350h will give you significantly more power, standard eAWD, and 40 mpg. If you can't afford the extra cost for the 350h, you shouldn't even be on the Lexus lot IMO.
@@panzer_TZ The NX 250 is the punching bag . The NX 350h has upgraded to the more powerful Hybrid system from the Highlander which is an appropriate step up from a RAV4 drivetrain.

I have to say, I am surprised that this one is over $51k and lacks the F Sport package. That is a couple grand more than my 2021 IS 350 F Sport, which is fully-loaded outside of the Dynamic Handling Package, though it is cheaper than an X3 xDrive30i with the M Sport package and a few options. I think the new NX improves a lot of the issues with the previous gen, but even with the price difference, I'd probably swing for one of the German options, particularly the X3, due to the quietness and driving dynamics. Maybe the plug-in hybrid NX is efficient and unique enough to set itself apart from the competitors - I am looking forward to Mark and Jack's review on that one!

Love your closing thoughts segments. I feel they summarize the review quite nicely.
Here’s the summary
The nx is nice but it’s a missed opportunity. It’s disappointing compared to the venza or even the ES. it finds itself not being terribly competitive
The infotainment race is so interesting to watch. Companies that for YEARS seemed to not care are all of a sudden adding screens upon screens. Hopefully it all works 5 years from now 😅
People complained about infotainment in lexus now they say its not flashy but who cares what people say when it sales like hot cake
Screens should only control music, extra info on the engines and such, not climate control
@@grozaphy well said
Well... It's what's on the outside that people cares.
It's not gonna work even two years from now ، tech is developing way too quick and progressing literally every day.

@@colechapman6976 Also notice how vehicles with generally higher reliability scores also have higher resale.
That’s the only thing you Lexus fan boys got. Pretty sad
Thanks for always doing the little audio notes / graphs!!
As someone who’s not a huge fan of Lexus besides the LX this is one of the best Lexus in years the inside actually looks modern
Yep gotta Love the 14" screen at an angle twd you!
Who cares about fuel efficiency? It’s a luxury car… why are you even shopping in this category if you want fuel economy? Go buy a Prius for that lol

From what I know, The CVT is actually a ECVT so NO belt but 2 electric motors with only one gear. I would have thought you might mention that?
Seems like belt or no belt CVT experience trumps the mechanical bits of how CVT is done
Ecvt на самом деле это планетарный редуктор. Он похож по поведению на вариатор, но конструкция как у раздаточного моста. Это самый надежный тип коробки на сегодня. Он надежней даже ручной коробки
I have never heard about CVT without belt before.

Great review. I'm coming out of a GLK and am choosing an NX for its safety features and rating, longterm reliability, and residual value.

Just went back and listened to the Everyday Driver + Savage Geese podcast. It was really cool seeing inside the minds of the geese.
HI, where can I find this podcast?

I agree with you
I have to sit in one, but I think this is the first touch-based seat controls that I don't instantly hate. The positioning along the bottom row of the screen means the buttons are isolated from the rest of the controls, and I think it's a one-glance interaction, with the ability to brace your hand against something that is not a screen or button, much like some physical control layouts.
Not being in the shop every month is all the reason I need to pick this over the competition.
Why Lexus? Get a venza that’s cheaper and nicer inside

The nx250 has the same noisy 4 cylinder as the RAV4
Motortrend and Edmunds said the nx might still not be competitive and it’s no class leader by any means.
Will I miss my automatic navigation map, my 6 disc CD changer the 400 horsepower and locking differentials of my LX570? Maybe the NX250 AWD.

● 1) Lock wheels to the ground. - 2) Heat car up. - 3) Pull at roof. - Voila. Lexus NX.

● One danger with HUD controls is that it can give a false sense of road awareness. Your mind is still focusing on the HUD, busy with using the system. You can still be very much surprised by what's going on in front of you, outside. Attention direction is supreme.
● I'd hate to have an audio system brand logo in the interior. Evidently it doesn't mean anything anyway; is just marketing bullshit.

Now I’m just waiting for you guys to do one on Polestar 2, if it comes out bad I might cancel my order.
I’ve seen a few on the road here in NV. Didn’t know what they were until recently. Keep us posted when you get one.
@@dcarts5616 I feel a bit like a guinea pig going into it without Savagegeese telling me the mechanical bits and pieces.
Love your honesty.

@@naveenthemachine … as an owner of a 2020 A-Spec RDX, I wish this was available when I was shopping. Build quality of Acura is disappointing with so many rattles and other interior noises.
@@bigcjm I'm just talking raw speed. Its not too hard to make a GUI that runs well. Yet, seemingly impossible in cars for some reason

Interesting analysis guys! I'm disappointed though. I got an NX300 about a year ago as a loaner when my GX was in the shop, and I was really impressed by the sporty dynamics. I'm surprised this new one didn't do it for you.
They wanted flashy interior and rwd that most dont care and sales show that
You’re one of the many who are implicitly saying I was right that the nx was dead on arrival before and after anyones driven it
I own a 2016 200t F-Sport Series 3 (the best handling version of the previous gen)...there are no sporty dynamics.
Lol you came from a GX. That is why it impressed you. You drive a boat. Even a hyundai will impress you
@@naveenthemachine cringe
Thoughts on this vs. RDX w/ the 2.0t?
No complaints about the gloss black plastic here, or does Lexus get a free pass?
The NX 350h sounds like the best bet as the FWD orientation is a compromise to begin with. The NX 250 will be slaughtered when they release it to the press for review.
Nx 250 is a base model and my choice of trim is the nx450h .
Well the nx250 has the same noisy engine as the rav4 and Camry so of course it’s gonna be slaughtered
I agree the nx350h is the best nx to get. Screw the 250, 350, 450h+
@@naveenthemachine cringe
The NX250 makes no damn sense. The 350h is only $1500 more in MSRP over a 250 AWD. The 350h will give you significantly more power, standard eAWD, and 40 mpg. If you can't afford the extra cost for the 350h, you shouldn't even be on the Lexus lot IMO.
@@panzer_TZ The NX 250 is the punching bag . The NX 350h has upgraded to the more powerful Hybrid system from the Highlander which is an appropriate step up from a RAV4 drivetrain.
Y’all better be getting the cx50 to review when it comes out!
For sure. The cx5 already destroyed the nx so the cx50 it’s no surprise the same thing will happen again
@@naveenthemachine come on man.if the people love the nx then what is your problem.but you are a troll who always use the same words no matter how good that product is .be realistic for once sales say nx is good .don't be a damn troll.😠
it comes down to preference , what you like
Please do plug in 450h+
Basically I was right the whole time. The nx was already dead on arrival before and after anyones even driven it. How unfortunate yet unsurprising
@@naveenthemachine I think we all know this will still manage to be Lexus's 2nd- or 3rd-best-selling vehicle anyway, due to brand loyalty. Not only that, but it looks a lot less controversial than the old one, which is enough to draw in new customers.
@@ARentz07 true but I still think it’s sad that I was right that the nx is a disappointment
I love how few say its a disappointment and yet its not but thats ok.😂👍
@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 not few. Reviewers and commenters who were agreeing with the reviewers. That’s a decent amount of comments
It seems to me this is made mainly for loyalists with very low risk.
Not really .its way better than genesis acura cadillac and infinti.german buyers never buy them.so whats the chasing after a group that will never consider a lexus
@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 you just said “not really”, then made the same point as Vedran…
@@Mac-xh8zl ok.
@@ekgcanadianenthusiast9961 I have not driven the new nx, but based on my experience with RDX and GV70 and the reviews I have watched on the new NX, I highly doubt this new NX is even better than those 2 cars you mentioned. I think they mentioned in the video that NX is exactly what you would expect from a Lexus compact SUV, but for what the new NX is trying to do, GV70 does it better in almost every way.
@@edisonl1756 look .nx has more power and luxury than the rdx specially in nx450h form .2.gv70 is rwd but does it matter .because 99.99 percent of people dont care if its rwd or fwd.3.gv70 interior is flashy but it lexus is way better .4.genesis is still a fancy hyundai and lexus is a established simple as that .nx will sell brilliantly.
I got you with the front wheel drive felling, I really don’t like it either. Like Jack said most people are busing this will drive it at speed limit anyway
Great video
I want to get one of these and put a Flowmaster exhaust on it
Does the audio system pipe-in sound from the engine into the car?
