Brazilian here. Just explaining about The Pelé thing (sorry for any English mistakes): 1.The “almost 1300 goals thing” is not a thing to be taken as, how could I say, “scientifically serious”. You see, Pelé claimed that scored more than a thousand goals, Romário scored his claimed 1000 goal ten years ago, and I’ve heard that it looks like Puskas and Gerd Muller also scored almost as much goals as him; but if you take the “scientific” research and counting official numbers, the number of these legend goals are cut in hundreds. You see, take Pelé as example: the guy even counts the numbers of his goals when he played for the Brazilian Army Team! An Army Team! Even myself didn’t know the Army had or has a team! Of course such numbers could not be official! The number of goals is not a “this is serious, he officially scored those goals and I’ll die saying this”; it’s just a curious thing that was said so many times that people even don’t care anymore and they just keep saying! It’s like saying Methuselah really lived 969 years: of course this could not be taken as serious, but if you ask anyone they will keep saying such thing and no one will care! (If you wanna go deeply in such matter, search for the controversy and mystery of a Brazilian legend called “Friendreich” - although I don’t know if there will be many English sources about him) 2.Now let’s go for the regional league goals thing, and for those who are not Brazilian or don’t know about Brazilian football history, be prepared because this will sounds interesting, funny and unbelievable for European’s standards or, more than everything, by today’s standards. Let’s begin from the top until we reach the bottom: 2.1. Pelé did very greatly in big competitions. He made 12 goals in World Cups, lifting the trophy for three times (a record); for Taça Brasil and Taça Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, considered the National League for the 60’s, he lifted the trophy six times (I think this is a record in national leagues for a single player, as far as I remember), and he was one of the top scores in those competitions (but there were very few games in those leagues and Santos did not play all the editions, so don’t expect some “godly-magical” numbers)… 2.2.And Pelé won ten São Paulo State Championships, and was top-scorer for 11 times; on 1958, with 17 years old, he achieved the record for one edition, with 58 goals scored; and he is, of course, the top-scorer of all time. That’s it. Ha! You must be asking me: hey, what about a very big competition, Champions League-tier, like Libertadores, huh? And you come talking to me about an State Championship? So… Be prepared; here is the most curious lesson about Brazilian history football today, young Padawan: 2.2. First, you need to understand that São Paulo State Championship was (and it is, even today) the strongest State Championship in Brazil. There are the Big Four teams that you probably heard somewhere: Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos and São Paulo. But aside from these well-known teams, there another clubs, that a Brazilian traditional football fan would kill you if you say that they are “small clubs”, because they were really strong back there: Guarani (today they are in Brasileirão Second Division, sad), Portuguesa (a even more sad case than Guarani today), Ponte Preta (this one is in the Brasileirão First Division, and is a hard opponent) and some other “smaller” clubs that ALWAYS were a pain in the ass to face; today and back there, the São Paulo State Championship is, unlike Rio de Janeiro State Championship for example, in which you always know that one of the big four (Botafogo, Flamengo, Fuminense and Vasco) will win, a hard competition to get through; in fact, my team, São Paulo , three-times Libertadores champion, six-times Brasileirão champion, was eliminated this year butchered for 4-1 by a new team called Audax! What the hell is an “Audax”? 2.3. So… the “big competitions” like Libertadores thing. In fact, looking from our point of view today, Libertadores was probably the biggest thing above an State Championship that time (I don’t count Taça Brasil - which Pelé won five times - as a “real threat” for Santos great team and Pelé because there were very few games and you only played with real big teams in the semi or the finals; sorry Santos fans). But I repeat: this is for TODAY’S POINT OF VIEW. Open a Wikipedia page about Libertadores and take a look at the champions of the tournament. You’ll notice something: only from 90’s you’ll see a lot of Brazilian teams becoming champions or almost getting there. That’s because here is the surprise: Brazilian teams didn’t care “too much” - unlike today - in winning the Libertadores back there. It was a great title, for sure, but not “oh my God, this must be our goal this year”. In Pelé’s time, Brazil won three times the World Cup with their players playing in Brazilian clubs; with a great quality inside Brazil, one should think by that time: “why should I care winning other things when the real competition is here?” - yes, it could be a egoistical thought, but it was not hard to think about it. And with the inexistence of a “real” challenging national league, what remains? YES, that’s it! No, don’t laugh my European friends. I know it sounds funny to think that some Bayern München would rather win Bavaria Championship instead of the Champions League or Barcelona win the Catalonia League instead of the Champions League; but it was pretty much what there was to offer for Pelé in his time. Hey, but it was not a small thing; if you read well, you may now put the pieces together: an State Championship with real difficult rivals and the biggest thing to win with their clubs for those skilled players, REALLY made winning the São Paulo State Championship a great thing for Pelé and for very other players; that’s why Pelé’s record for Santos in such competition is considered a great one. NOTE: if you still in doubt about how much of a “thing” was an State Championship back there, ask a Corinthians fan about the 1977 São Paulo State Championship. Man, you’d be the responsible for some tears here.
+Football Daily Santos used to play a lot of friendlies indeed. That's because Santos lived from selling tickets (we are talking about the 60's, right?), and to play Libertadores (for example) they had to pay for the trip and hotels, so they used to take it as money loss. Santos then used to offer friendlies to the world and promote their tours, so Santos could play against their teams. Santos was the base of a 3x world champion team in 4 WC's, it was not exactly cheap to keep a team like that, what do you think? A little bit of research would show you. What is shocking, is that it was the very SAME to many clubs, INCLUDING IN EUROPE. I don't know how you miss that. If you won't count friendlies, you won't count numerous matches against Milan, Benfica, Internazionale, Juventus, Atletico de Madrid, Anderlecht, Boca Juniors, Colo-Colo, Lyon, Olimpique, Saint-Etienne.. the list goes on and on. We won't even tell about the tournaments (usual at the time) promoted by cities or teams, but just put a list of the English teams Santos faced during the time: Aston Vila, Barnsley, Bradford City, Chelsea, Coventry City, Everton, Fulham, Newcastle, Porthsmouth, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke City, West Ham e Wolverhampton Wanderes. Santos could be easily be declared champion of the english league. So even with all of these being friendlies, their goals wouldn't count for someone's career? Why you feel comfortable to put in your context Pelé's numbers, but ignore the context of what was THE SPORT at the time? About *regional* tournaments. Well, they were CLASSIFICATORY TOURNAMENTS to the nationals. So if you didn't win the regional championship, you wouldn't PLAY the nationals. BTW, how many matches Pelé played in the nationals (to score that many less goals), you didn't mention. "Brazilians love to talk about the 1000 goals"? Well that's because we know how things used to work in here, and you don't. We recognize the context of the time before give an opinion, something that is YOUR JOB to do. I guess you are TOO misinformed. You have a FOOTBALL CHANNEL, but doesn't know the history of the sport? I saw in the comment session you asking: "what is the biggest fraud in football's history?" I guess the answer is YOU.
This bastard named football daily don't even have knowledge of a kid. Don't even know shit abour football history. This moron brainwashing lots of other idiots like him
I don't think they mean that he is a fraud, just that the thing he is most famous for is exaggerated. Didn't you hear the commentary in which tey said he was an amazing keeper?
Abdul Mel he was an amazing keeper, Colombia would have been a serious candidate in wc94 if he wasn't in jail, and if you think about it doing that shit live in front of thousands of people is quite the trick
He is a fraud. There has been better keepers in Colombia. For example, Oscar Cordoba (who was THE BEST keeper in the world at his time in Boca Juniors), Miguel Calero and Faryd Mondragon.
He is not a fraud bruh. For anything, he was just exaggerated. Just b/c there was better keepers in Colombia don't mean shit. It's not his fault people have held him so high just b/c of one moment.
Mourinho has two UCLs in his curriculum with two different teams. He can make United get relegated and still be known as a top manager because of what he achieved. What has Wenger won in all these years?
Jorge Costa winning isnt everything. Wenger is consistently putting us in the top 4. also helped aresnal by undeafeted in a whole season. jose also manged to finish 10th last year with a very good chelsea squad
Taking into consideration that back in the 50's-70's when Pelé played Brazil won 3 World Cups, Brazilian players very rarely transfer internationally, and talent has often been centered in two states (Rio and São Paulo) saying Pelé played against weak competition is a very uninformed assumption. Moreover, historically, the Brazilian league is a lot more evenly matched than most european major leagues. The Premier League by example had only 5 different champions in the last 20 years, and that is including the surprising title by Leicester City last year, La Liga also only had 5 different champions in the last 20 years. The same regional tournament mentioned in the video ("Campeonato Paulista") has been won by 6 different teams in the last 20 years, the Brazilian League had 10 different champions. Finally, Pelé had success in 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 Libertadores and 3 World cups. Although in 1962 he had very little impact, it is almost impossible to argue against his success against top competition, both in the club and national levels, not many players, if any, can compare individually, and collectively on both levels. Often he has exaggerated his accomplishments, and has been a controversial figure even in his home country, but calling undoubtly one of the greatest footballers ever a fraud is at the very least silly If you don't believe me, just look up quotes from players who played with him, against him or that saw him play. Guys like Puskas, Cruyff, Fontaine, and Sir Bobby Charlton were just some to sing praises about Pelé skills as a player. But who knows? Maybe we know better than some of the greatest to ever play the game.
In those days the Brazilian League was the best in the World too! It's weaker now yes but it would still make the top 10 for certain, most likely the top 6 and possibly the top 4 behind just England, Germany and Spain. {Arrange that top 3 however you want according to your own personal bias}. Pele scored over 700 goals in competitive football for certain. Neither Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo are anywhere close to that tally yet - They may get there before they retire but it isn't certain!
Richard Martin having different teams winning the league doesn’t therefore make it more competitive or closely matched, it just shows how inconsistent the teams are and how low the standard of football is (generally speaking)
John Franks I watched him do it dozens of times during warm ups and a couple of times during national league games...the one vs england came out pretty good.
Pele is a fraud, and stupid people say that he is the king of football. They need a reality check... He isn't even top 20 greatest in brazil lol let alone of all times
didnt he win 3 world cups with brazil ? i dont study much of football history and so i dont rate old players whome i havent watched play but still pele's achievements might be inflated but that doesnt mean he is sht
Jared A top performance in a world class brazil squad... 2 won by Jaizanho and 1 won by Garrincha. I'm not saying Pele is crap. He of cource was ahead of his time but to give him comparisons to R9, van Basten, Maradona etc. Is ridiculous...
Football Daily I don't think he would even make my top 50. Di stefano, Best, Beckenbauer, charlton, Puskas, Garrincha, Duncan Edwards, Jaizinho, Eusebio, denis law, johan cruijff are all better than him imo. And these were only players from around his era... Then you have the 80s and 90s where absolute legends were produced/ played...
Yes sure, weak teams like Gylmar dos Santos's Corinthians, Djalma Santos's Portuguesa, Mauro Ramos's Sao Paulo or Felix Mielli's Nacional. He also won 3 world cups, one of them at the age of 17
MrYounis26 im not a fan of either, i think messi and ronaldo are far better than pele because how football has evolved to better tactics and strategy, back then was just attack brainlessly i would say, but this is my opinion, if you think pele really is the best player of all time i respect your opinion
prdz8 Only europeans won the Ballon D'or back then, because if it was possible the south americans would shame in the europeans, players like Pele, Garrincha, Djalma Santos, Ademir da Guia, they would get all the prizes, but unfontunally we didnt got to see that

"pele scored against weak teams" messi scores hattricks against fucking granada, osasuna, malaga and las palmas and everybody looses their shit...
Pele? Are you lot mad. Didn't u see what he done on the international stage. Football was different then, by the time the official league in Brazil started Pele was a lot older..
+Miguel Pinto: Haha, tactics were well into affect and used as it is being used today. So Beckenbauer, Djalma Santos, Nilton Santos, Moore, Gernamo, McNiel, and Santamaria were decent? Hahaha
Exactly man! This video is so stupid. And in the years after 1971, when Pele was older, he scored less also in Campeonato Paulista, not only in the official league(in the same years). While when he was in the best shape(younger) he scored so much not only in Cameponato Paulista but also in Torneio Rio(with Rio de Janeiro teams) and in Taça Brasil(biggest tournament in Brazil in that epoch with all the best teams at NATIONAL level). And there he scored 1 goal every game! The guys who made this video are so biased.
Yeah. No tactics. Hungary's revolutionary W-M formation? Catenaccio? Brazil's 4-2-4 with dynamic powerful CM's and attacking fullbacks? No tactics my ass.
I can't agree on Pelé being that bad as you make him to look. He was very good in the world cups. I think there are clips of him nutmegging Beckenbauer.
Marco Swagović He was good in only one tournament, in the rest he was ghost. He never was the top scorer of any tournament and got outplayed in them all, even by his teammates
Hey Hey that local competition called CAMPEONATO PAULISTA with all those weak teams (Palmeiras, Corinthians, São Paulo...) was just the base along side with CAMPEONATO CARIOCA, another ridiculous local championship, featuring another weak teams(Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense...) for Brazil's National team.Yeah, that one that won the world cup 3 times. You should do more research You know.I dont know about You europeans but local competitions here have always been very important.
let idiots talk. Most great brazilian players emerged from those clubs before being scouted by european heavyweight clubs. Latest example: Gabriel Jesus
I think you are being massively oversensitive. It's highly unlikely he meant to offend anyone. Brazilian football is a great standard but of course all their best players play in Europe... Besides, international football has nothing to do with club football... This is coming from an Englishman who has for years witnessed English players excelling for their clubs and then embarrassing themselves on the international stage.
ZolaMagic25 Our players started moving out of Brazil only after the mid 80s.After money started to enter in football through advertisement. Before that, we had the best league and the best players. We still have the best players But Our league is poor.
well, this was quite educational and fun until it got to a totally baseless attack on Pele. his scoring average may not have been as high as some others', but first of 34 in 84 is still impressive, second he was very young even when winning his first World cup(actually, i trust he's the only player to win three of those), he was fantastically skilled, extremely instrumental to his teams, and a great ambassador of this sport. and what do you think, other greats don't score against 'inferior' opposition? actually, for players of Messi's stature almost all opposition is inferior! and speaking of the 'devil', which i say jokingly cause i got no problems with Messi whatsoever, he's not won a single World cup yet. and neither had Cruyff and many other greats
It must really pain you that you're writing in English Kemar. In fact, if it wasn't for England you wouldn't have this little thing called the World Wide Web :-)
Pele aint a fraud but him scoring that many goals is like Wilt dropping 100 points, Russell win 13 titles and Jabbar scoring 38,387 points. Saying nobody comes close to Pele as a player is just stupid. Statistics shouldnt be even used for things like that, especially when the people are from totally different era.
InhaleTheGreen ExhaleTheDream If you pay attention they say that Pele is a fraud because he always brags about his 1200 and over 500 of those are in friendlies.
Wow... calling Pelé a fraud is an incredibly baseless argument. The Campeonato Paulista might be a regional tournament, albeit one that includes 4 of the best teams in Brazilian history. Just saying that his opposition was weak at the time doesn't make it a fact. Many of Brazil's legends played in Brazil, and against Pelé throughout his career. Brazilian footballers didn't go to Europe like they do today. The Brazilian National Championship was only established in 1971 and Pelé retired in 1974, he played in the Championship only for a brief period and it was already the twilight of his career, that's why his goal conversion was so low. Furthermore, teams didn't only play "small" regional tournaments. Pelé played in the Campeonato Paulista, the Torneio Rio-São Paulo (tournament with teams from the state of São Paulo and from the state of Rio de Janeiro, which means teams like: Santos, SPFC, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Fluminense, Vasco, Botafogo, Flamengo - some of the greatest teams in the history of Brazil), the Copa Libertadores ("Champions League" of South America), the Campeonato Brasileiro (the Brazilian Championship - late in his career), the World Club Championship, the World Cup (which he won three by the way), and more. You guys could've at least watched some highlights of Pelé... Comparing him to Giroud and saying that he's not on the same level as Messi and Cruyff is just ignorant. Hey, you're allowed to compare Messi's goals in friendlies with Pelé's, we don't mind. Please do your research before making a video calling players frauds, quite a big allegation, especially when it is so unmerited. Here is a link to an article by a very respected Brazilian sports journalist, Juca Kfouri, comparing Pelé and Messi, which is aimed at those who've never seen Pelé play and make crazy allegations. blogdojuca.uol.com.br/2012/03/aos-que-nao-viram-pele-e-falam-tanta-bobagem-sobre-ele/ -- Though it is in Portuguese, I'm sure it should be quite straight-forward to translate it. +Football Daily hopefully you guys will read this comment.
In 1962 he got hurt during the World Cup in the game against czechoslovakia. He did appear on the pitch and actually scored a goal. And the fact that they won it without him, only goes to show how good the Brazilian players were at the time, players that Pelé played constantly against.
Name me one other player that has won three FIFA world cups? Pele's goals tally may be inflated but the man still has three times as many world cups as England!
nah. Pele is one of the most overrated player ever. He has good teammates with Brazil (Garrincha, Jairzinho, Rivellino, etc.). Look up Garrincha's interview about Pele, even he doubted that Pele is the greatest ever.
+Story Time: I agree, but friendlies at the time were taken very seriously. Footballers aren't rich millionares as they are today and needed the money.
Let me remind people how Higuita did not only do this in the match against England, but various others: Romania, Yugoslavia, etc... but the one on England is the most known because of the danger that was being imposed by the player.
Pele... Brazil's top scorer and Santos top scorer of all time? 77 goals in 91 appearances for Brazil, and 541 league goals isn't something to look light upon. He also played with the New York Cosmos and managed MVP.
+Football Daily Ignorant idiots Pele´s 500 "Friendly" goals were against the best teams in Europe, teams like Milan, Juve, Barca, Real Madrid. Santos gave over 30 games a year in tours, back then the best South American players stayed there and didnt go to Europe. Every team on the planet wanted to beat Santos and they had the chance only in those "friendlies" since Pele like most SA players didn´t go to European clubs. Pele´s goal ratio was even better in OFFICIAL games than in those "friendlies" and better against European teams than against Brazilian. Pele has about 204 goals in 195 games against European teams(clubs and national teams) with Santos, NY Cosmos and Brazil. Also, Pele played 3-4 games a week for most of his career, that is how he got to 1366 career games all over the world. Nobody today does that
55bructrax no most you uninformed kid, most of his goals came from playing weak and sometimes amateur sides in friendlies like for example in Africa. So big was his ego he even started the myth and kept it going, that he stopped a civil war in Africa which is fake by the way. anyways he may have played a few friendlies against top European teams but over 90% of them were against weak amateur sides. he even counted goals he made In the army, I mean you can't get any more ridiculous than that. And you really think he was playing the elite European clubs 3-4 times a week?. hahahaha I'm sorry friend but that's wasn't the case. romario claims he scored over 1000 goals too and he did it more recently but just like Pele, he counts friendlies and players up until he was 44 in the Brazilian league, so now Pele claims to have scored his 1000 goal in 1969, and he was born in 1940. so your going to tell me it took romario 15 more years to come to a similar goal scoring tally?. don't be ridiculous friend, most of his friendlies were just that and we're against amateurs clubs.
the reason was that even until now people still consider him being a badass for trying that out. If people knew that he knew that it was an offside goal then that would've make him less badass for it. He was connected to Escobar, tho.
if the brazilian national league didnt exist during pele's time, it only means that the good players were actually playing in those local leagues. and these messi and cryuffs havent been able to win three world cups, or make it a habit of scoring hatricks in every match they played(and i'm a messi fan).
English people speaking about Pelé, what a joke. Campeonato Paulista was one of the strongest in Brazil, a country with a continental size. Sao Paulo state is twice the size of Portugal. It might be true that a big part of his goals came from friendlys, but that doesn't change the fact that he won 3 world cups playing against all of europe national teams. Please ask Bobby Charlton or Beckenbauer if they think Pelé is joke. Again, English people think they know a lot about football, but forget that they only been in 2 world cups semi finals and never in Euro final. Look at your own belly before talking about a legend like Pelé.
+Things are about to get messi someone with that record can't be considered overrated I'm afraid, have you seen the goals he scored and the amount? Geezers a legend
did u not watch the vid? Most of his goals aren't even proven and they were mostly against shit teams and friendlies, against actual teams he sucked. He is overrated but he is still a great of the game but should not be mentioned as greatest of all time
Kids that know nothing about football, compare people that invented plays with people that grew up watching them... what a shame, Pele, Zicco, Maradona, Rossi and many other cannot be compared to modern football. they were great before modern football existed. Every era has its heroes.
Only 1 goal and atleast Maradona doesn't make up false lies regarding his statistics and achievements. Meanwhile, pele the fraud says he scored 1200+. Goals and 1000+ assists when he literally counts goals that he scored in his backyard.
Man. I canr deny pele goes again weak teams to score those 1000+ goals. But look at his international achievement man. He was the best at international standards. Winning the world cup thrice. How can we not compare him to Cruyff and messi
more like #fakenews @football Daily. For starters check the Guinness Book of records where it says 1283 goals for Pele. All players can count friendlies in their tallys and still won´t get close to 1283 goals. It is just that very few toured so much like Pele did in his career where Santos made money by giving over 30 games a year around the world against top teams. It is like Messi playing for Newels instead of Barca and beating the shit out of Euro teams in International Tours.
Tunerz Anthems your a kid who only watched messi and ronaldo neither of them would be able to do shite if they were playing in the 21st century or even early 2000s
The campeonato paulista was hardly an easy tournament in the 50s and 60s. Yes, it's a regional, but remember that São Paulo os the size of spain, and most of Brazils top teams and players played there.
@@Monnarchmonnarchy messi also had 3 legends with him, di Maria, mascherano and aguero and couldn't do shit. Oh wait messi is a fraud anyway. Bane of sevilla
You should be ashamed for saying Pele is a fraud. Don't you know what he did at international level? He scored 77 goals in 92 appearences (0.84 goals per match). He won 3 world cups (1958, 1962, 1970)!!! He scored in 2 world cup finals (1958, 1970). In the 1958 world cup he was second top goalscorer with 6 goals (age 18) and also won best young player. He finally was the main reason Brazil won the title in 1970 and won best player of the tournament. Nobody has done anything like that. Messi has NEVER won any international titles and he never will.
And superstars like Pele got paid peanuts...garbage salaries compared to many very average, spoilt, mediocre, pampered millionaire bitches playing nowadays.
You forgot something about pele he didn't actually win 3 world cups only 2 because in one of them he was injured until the final and pele was out performed in every single World Cup he's played oh and how many World Cup records does pele have oh that's right 0 and he also played on a relegated MLS team (I'm not sure if this is true but I don't think offside was a rule)
In the premier league era worst finish of Manchester United under Sir Alex was 3rd and their best finish after he left is 4th is this fact enough to say that all the success United have is credited to their greatest manager?
Let's get some things straight about Pele for younger viewers being posioned by this shite...forget about stats for a minute..stats are for nerds who never kicked a ball. 1. He won the the golden ball at the 1970 world cup. The best player on possibly the greatest international team of all time. 2. He scored 77 in 92 for Brazil in a period where they played far less friendlies and international football was the pinnical of the sport. 3. In that same period the average goals per game was far less. 4. He played with far more stringent off side rules. 5. He played when you only got 2 points for a win so games where far more negative. 6. You could pass back to the keeper, pressuring defenders was far less effective 7. Defenders where properly trying to hurt you. 8. The balls and boots where completely shite, a modern player would struggle to pass it straight. 10. All of his peers considered him a genius
Pele 760+ goals are official and from Fifa known. Then 1280+ goals are official + friendly matches. At that to bring Pele to play with your was a hounor and they battled for him. It is a fact that he played 38 games with Italian teams and scored 41 goals, not normal italian teams with the best that can allow the luxus to bring they from brasil. And he wasnt a forward he was a playmaker. Some stats say that he maybe has more than 1000 assist. In the time of Pele there wasnt a yellow or a red card this made defending more easy and rude, only in WC 1970 yellow and red cards were given. He was only 17 year old when he won the WC 1958 and scored 6 goals in just 4 games, 2 stuninng goals in final. A another fact is that if Ballon d'or was for all in that time bot only for european players Pele must have 7 ballon d'or, 4 of them at age 17 and 21.
What a bunch of rubbish. you forgot to say that the Campeonato Paulista, or the local tournament that Pele played, has the four best teams in Brazil. Look at the Premier league it only has 4 good teams and the rest is rubbish. Do your research
Odis seriously, he scored so many friendly goals, i don’t see how anyone can argue with that! next you’l l telling me messi isn’t good cause he plays for newcastle
@@LuisLRC i Said Pelé is a icon, and btw almost half og the goals he scored was in unofficial friendly and show matches vs week teams in the lower leauges
Pele was crowned a legend by people of HIS time. We didn't look at stats and say oh shit. If people back then thought 500 friendly goals were quality then he's a legend. If today's Real Madrid played a friendly against LA Galaxy, the american team will treat it as the World Cup final no matter what. So if Pele is traveling the world destroying crap competition who wants a piece of the "Legend" doesn't that make him truly legendary?
Look, I understand what you mean about Pele's goals vs local competition. Sports are subjective when it comes to competition but at the end of the day, a soccer ball going through a net = a goal. There's no other definitive explanation from it. If you play any other sport like basketball, a bucket is a bucket no matter how bad or good a team is; if the game is official then it should be included.
"Pelé "done" it"? What did he do at the elite stage back then (World Cups)? He was in these World Cups not even the best player within his own team: Didi WC 1958, Garrincha WC 1962, - (1966), Pelé WC 1970 with Jairzinho considered the bestter and driving force within the Selecao 1970. Despite that, he was definitely a great player.
soooo... you're hating on Rene higuita for pulling something crazy off in a game whether the play was flagged or not that takes skill... hard enough to be a goalie with your hands much less jumping up in the air and stopping a balls with your feet behind your head..you guys are crazy he doesn't belong on this list.
So bullshit, pele his 3 World Cups, 2 International Cups, 2 Libertadores Cups, Top Scorer of the Brazilian National football team with a strike rate of 0.84, 12 goals and 10 assists in 12 World Cup matches, 1970 WC top-scorer, are because he was a mediocre striker.
Moises Antonio They refuse to reply >.>... It's absurd to expel lies without an reaction, if you think there is no problem of what they did, which is as bad as a political biased forced comments.
When you said about Pelé that a lot of games were against weak teams, the afirmation is not true. Even when were friendly matchs, many of the opponents was great teams. Santos (Pele's team) made tourings in Europe, participate of tournaments in South America as well, against great teams. About the Paulista Championship this tournment still exists. Today doesn't have the same relevance than it was since it was created until the middle of 80s. But despite the main national league in Brazil, created in the early 70s, the "Campeonato Brasileiro" (Brazilian Championship), the Paulista Championship still have importance and remain very relevant. It's a regional tournment, and remember that Brazil is a country with almost the same size of Europe. Brazil have almoste 27 regional tournments, one for each state (each state is like a province), the Campeonato Paulista always were one of the most influential. Imagine one regional tournament in Brazil as one national championship on a country of Europe. Of course not all of then are not like in Europe, specialy at level of organization. But each of one have its importance, and it is very relevant in a country, like Brazil, that loves the football and giv it a huge value. When this channel, that I really admire, does an affirmation that Pele's 1000 goals wer a fraud. Its sounds like a big mistake and a injustice as well. Seems like the South americans teams has no importance in world wide football. The tournments are weak? Are you serious? I live in Brazil, a country that I realy agree that many politicians are corrupts. But football is not fake here!!! In the past when Pele still played football, the teams were very competitive. And still remain. Looks like the only place where the football is significant is in Europe. I totally not agree with the rank of this video. Where the most of the participants they were real frauds. All the 1000 goals (scores) they were authentic. Even that oponents of Santos , if they were weaks, or the team of Santos was in fact a very strong team, there was not fraud in the games. You all of Football Daily should apologise about this video. I'm don't speak in English, and at least try to read and hear in this idiom. I spended almost one hour writing this, but I could not stay with not comment about this. Sorry about the language errors or mispellings.
Ignorant idiot. Pele´s 500 "Friendly" goals were against the best teams in Europe, teams like Milan, Juve, Barca, Real Madrid. Santos gave over 30 games a year in tours, because back then the best South American players stayed there and didnt go to Europe. Nobody today does that
Pelé won a world cup at age 17 as the man of the team... the two world cups he was suposed to play at his peak 62 and 66 he was removed from the cup by the oposition brutally in a era where red cards where not a thing... as for the regional cup campeonato paulista... the state of sao paulo in population and territory is and was since then bigger than most contrys in europe... yes it was a easier legue than the brasilian national league... but it was a era where most players played their carrers in their home country... that national league was harder to win a game in than any olther league in the world just imagine how a brasillian league would look like today if every brasilian player in europe still played here
Regarding Pele - this blasphemous myth that the Brazilian League was weak at that time is straight up stupid. The European market wasn’t as strong as it is now. Imagine a league where the golden Brazilian generation were all competing for the same cups? There’s only one goat and we know who it is #Pele

2016 how can he be a fraud. 3 world cup 12 goals in world cups
yeah, but he was never a top scorer in any of those world cups. Do your research, his first world cup was in 1962 where the the scorers were 6 players including Garrincha with 4 goals each, Eusebio was the top scorer in 1966 with 9 goals, Gerd Muller in 1970 with 10 goals. 12 goals in 3 world cups is impressive but not 'that' impressive.
While pele did score almost half of his goals from friendlies, it was before leagues were implemented in brazil, so friendlies were probably played more and less official games were played. Current stars have their friendly goals counted towards their national total anyway otherwise players like neymar and messi would not even have 20 total international goals, let along 50. Brazil was full of talents back in pele's time so not all the teams he played against were weak.
CAMPEONATO PAULISTA is not a "regional competition", its the state championship and also one of the oldest and most traditional PROFESSIONAL football championships in Brasil. And also, there was no brazilian league and several competitions existed during that period, which doesnt mean that those games were friendlies, those tournaments most of the times included the biggest teams in the world with the likes of real madrid, juventus and many other brazilian or international sides.
"Pele did play in farmer's league". This is BY FAR, the worst argument against Pele, simply because state-level tournaments in Brasil, throughout the 50s, 60s, and even late 80s were not weak, on the contrary, in fact, some of them (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul) were very strong. First of all, Brazilian football was much stronger then, since almost all Brazilian players would remain in the country. Imagine if Neymar, Coutinho, Marcelo, Firmino, Casemiro, Gabriel Jesus, Paulinho, Thiago Alcantara, Thiago Silva played domestic. The 1958 team? All of them played locally. 1962 team? 1970 team? 1950 second place team? Yeah, you got it. And I'm not talking only about first class players in Spain, England, Germany or Italy. Imagine if the hundreds of Brazilian players in Portugal, Ukraine, Japan, Turkey, Russia were playing in Brazil. That was the situation until late 80s. It's also important to notice that Brazil is a huge continental country. There wasn't a national organized tournament until late 60's. State level tournaments were by far the most important events. It must be said that some of Brazilian states are as big as most of European Countries, but football is historically centered on a few of those states. São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro were the main ones, with Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul on close second. In the 1958 team there were 10 players from São Paulo (from 5 different teams), and 12 players from Rio (from 5 different teams). 1962 had 13 from 4 different teams from São Paulo. 1970 team had 11 players from Sâo Paulo (from 5 different teams); If you take a list of teams with most National Champions from the 60's until now, first, second, fourth and fifth places are teams from São Paulo - Palmeiras, Santos, Corinthians and São Paulo FC. All of them, by the way, are also multiple Copa Libertadores Champions. Not to mention medium level teams with multiple second place and third place national honours like Portuguesa, Ponte Preta and Guarany (1978 national champion), that were also playing on São Paulo. Teams from São Paulo have more National Trophies than teams from all the other states combined. So, HOW, HOW, HOW can you say that the São Paulo State was not a very strong Tournament, with FOUR high level teams and a number of medium level teams?!?!?! It was strong! Pele was playing against some of the best! Pele's team, Santos, was playing against some of the world's best players, and beating some of Brazil's best teams. It´s foolish to compare those Brazilian state-level tournaments with German ones. They are not the same. Nowadays, people forget this, cause the National Tournament is well established, but simply put. State-level Tournaments WERE the most important tournaments throughout the 50's till the 70's. And you know what? THE SAME IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN EUROPE. Imagine this: São Paulo is roughly the size of the UK and has/had 4 high-level teams, Minas Gerais, with two high-level teams, is the size of Spain, Rio has/have 4 high-level teams, Rio Grande do Sul have/has 2, and so on. Those states had very strong state-level championships. One day, they decided to create a strong National Tournament and, little by little, those strong state tournaments begin to shrink. 40 years later, we are calling them "farmer's league" Well, Spain has 2 (maybe 3) strong teams; England has 4, Germany has 2, Italy I don't know anymore, 2 or 3. There are always plans for a Europe League, with all of them. Imagine if little by little they begin to abandon the domestic league in favor of this new continental one. 40 years from now, there will be people saying that Messi or Ronaldo or Muller played in a farmer´s league.
I agree, "Pele did play in farmer's league" is as exaggerated as the title using the word "fraud". Nevertheless there are plenty of arguments to support the fact and overwhelming consensus among many football fans that Pelé is indeed an overrated football player.
If Pele is overrated for winning 3 WC because he had an amazing side, what does that make Messi, who has an incredible squad with his club Barcelona, and his national team, Argentina. The fact that Pele stands out from such a legendary team is proof that he is one of the best, simple as.
Pele was a great player , and without a doubt he was one of the bests. He's numbers might be inflated or the teams he played might not be the best ones... But don't forget what he won with Brazil , I mean , how can you say he is a lie ? I think Ronaldo and Messi are the best players ever , the football nowadays is more competitive and more exigent and the level is waaay higher but what he did should not be looked without reapect. When you talk about football you have to talk about Pele
how can a team be without its manager? it has to be arsene wenger who does absolutely fxxk-all for ten years and somehow managed to convince the board to keep renewing his contract
Mr. Jugg stop saying la liga is shit. The teams are probably better than in the Bpl. It's only because Barcelona are so good that they make the other teams look good and people assume that Barca win all their games 5-0 but that's rarely the case. Maradona is the best ever
Pele was a great player - but a lot of his stats are misleading. Like the goals - and some people say hat brazil never lost a match with him - but it was actually when he and someone else played alongside each other i think. but don't get me wrong he was a legend and scored a brilliant goal in the world cup final
Brazilian here. Just explaining about The Pelé thing (sorry for any English mistakes):
1.The “almost 1300 goals thing” is not a thing to be taken as, how could I say, “scientifically serious”. (If you wanna go deeply in such matter, search for the controversy and mystery of a Brazilian legend called “Friendreich” - although I don’t know if there will be many English sources about him)
2.Now let’s go for the regional league goals thing, and for those who are not Brazilian or don’t know about Brazilian football history, be prepared because this will sounds interesting, funny and unbelievable for European’s standards or, more than everything, by today’s standards. Let’s begin from the top until we reach the bottom:
2.1. Pelé did very greatly in big competitions. He made 12 goals in World Cups, lifting the trophy for three times (a record); for Taça Brasil and Taça Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, considered the National League for the 60’s, he lifted the trophy six times (I think this is a record in national leagues for a single player, as far as I remember), and he was one of the top scores in those competitions (but there were very few games in those leagues and Santos did not play all the editions, so don’t expect some “godly-magical” numbers)…
2.2.And Pelé won ten São Paulo State Championships, and was top-scorer for 11 times; on 1958, with 17 years old, he achieved the record for one edition, with 58 goals scored; and he is, of course, the top-scorer of all time.
That’s it.
Ha! You must be asking me: hey, what about a very big competition, Champions League-tier, like Libertadores, huh? And you come talking to me about an State Championship?
So… Be prepared; here is the most curious lesson about Brazilian history football today, young Padawan:
O Peregrino Negro Wow !! I'm enlightened thanks.
+Football Daily
Santos used to play a lot of friendlies indeed.
I saw in the comment session you asking: "what is the biggest fraud in football's history?"
I guess the answer is YOU.
This bastard named football daily don't even have knowledge of a kid.
Don't even know shit abour football history. This moron brainwashing lots of other idiots like him
higuita is not a fraud bro
I Am I no
I don't think they mean that he is a fraud, just that the thing he is most famous for is exaggerated.
Who do you think is the BIGGEST fraud in football history?!
Football Daily
Football Daily Blatter
I am so erly
Football Daily Cavani mate... misses 20 chances per game lol
Football Daily Definitely Blatter #snapchat
Manager: Wenger 😂😂😂
Diego Costa Is A Nice Man u just got a sub 😂
Diego Costa Is A Nice Man Pep Guardiola lol
Diego Costa Is A Nice Man umm manager I don't know oh no oh yes cough cough umm mourinho at Chelsea
Often he has exaggerated his accomplishments, and has been a controversial figure even in his home country, but calling undoubtly one of the greatest footballers ever a fraud is at the very least silly
If you don't believe me, just look up quotes from players who played with him, against him or that saw him play.
Francis Wright not top4. Spain England Italy Germany are the top4. Top8 maybe.
p.k.s. Serie A isn't that good right now, Serie A Brazil "could" be ahead of it.
Francis Wright nah mate Juve, Napoli, Roma can beat the top Brazilian clubs.
Richard Martin having different teams winning the league doesn’t therefore make it more competitive or closely matched, it just shows how inconsistent the teams are and how low the standard of football is (generally speaking)
stop trying to make what higuita did v England seem like it's unimpressive
it's impressive. but less impressive since now I know that he knew that it was an offside attempt.
John Franks I watched him do it dozens of times during warm ups and a couple of times during national league games...the one vs england came out pretty good.
Pele is a fraud, and stupid people say that he is the king of football. They need a reality check...
He isn't even top 20 greatest in brazil lol let alone of all times
Thomas Parker Boi ur the stupid one. Look at his performances in world cups at his age. Although he is slightly overrated, he isn't shit mate

Marco Swagović He was good in only one tournament, in the rest he was ghost. He never was the top scorer of any tournament and got outplayed in them all, even by his teammates
Maradona, Messi, Zidane, Beckenbauer never were WC topscorers
Daylyt he was very close to the top in almost every time, but in 58 and 70 he wad the mvp and the most important player in the brazil team.

It was a 16 team mini world cup. And having so many good players in his team, he won that without any efforts. No wonder Brazil won 1962 without Pele.

Football Daily MESSI is a TAX fraud
I am just laughing my ass at you guys trying to pronounce three portuguese clubs in a row. Nice try tho.
Wow... calling Pelé a fraud is an incredibly baseless argument.

Fair play, if you count not appearing on the pitch as winning a World Cup that's decent! Haha
In 1962 he got hurt during the World Cup in the game against czechoslovakia. He did appear on the pitch and actually scored a goal. And the fact that they won it without him, only goes to show how good the Brazilian players were at the time, players that Pelé played constantly against.
+Fran Attie that's a good point. +Football Daily If the Brazilian League was so weak why did Brazilian teams won world cups and intercontinental cups

+Football Daily Ignorant idiots
Pele´s 500 "Friendly" goals were against the best teams in Europe, teams like Milan, Juve, Barca, Real Madrid.
And you really think he was playing the elite European clubs 3-4 times a week?. hahahaha I'm sorry friend but that's wasn't the case. romario claims he scored over 1000 goals too and he did it more recently but just like Pele, he counts friendlies and players up until he was 44 in the Brazilian league, so now Pele claims to have scored his 1000 goal in 1969, and he was born in 1940. so your going to tell me it took romario 15 more years to come to a similar goal scoring tally?. don't be ridiculous friend, most of his friendlies were just that and we're against amateurs clubs.

apparently he is a fraud for kicking a ball while play was stopped. yeah. WELCOME TO THE DUMBASS SIDE OF RUclips PEOPLE!

if the brazilian national league didnt exist during pele's time, it only means that the good players were actually playing in those local leagues.
and these messi and cryuffs havent been able to win three world cups, or make it a habit of scoring hatricks in every match they played(and i'm a messi fan).

Good question: Where is Neymar's transfer fee?
Let's get some things straight about Pele for younger viewers being posioned by this shite...forget about stats for a minute..stats are for nerds who never kicked a ball.
1. He won the the golden ball at the 1970 world cup. The best player on possibly the greatest international team of all time.
2. He scored 77 in 92 for Brazil in a period where they played far less friendlies and international football was the pinnical of the sport.
3. In that same period the average goals per game was far less.
4. He played with far more stringent off side rules.
5. He played when you only got 2 points for a win so games where far more negative.
6. You could pass back to the keeper, pressuring defenders was far less effective

Pele´s 500 "Friendly" goals were against the best teams in Europe, teams like Milan, Juve, Barca, Real Madrid. Santos gave over 30 games a year in tours, because back then the best South American players stayed there and didnt go to Europe.
Nobody today does that
Ja prevejo os Brasileiros putos da vida.Pele pode ter muita coisas de ruim fora do campo e também pode ter chegado aos 1000 gols com jogos amistosos, mas farsa ele não era, pelo menos dentro de campo não!
Matheus Tavares dont know What You are saying but i understand one thing, you are pissed that they said Pelé is a fraud
why do we Africans lie about our age to play football
TIJWAN HD Ikr it's sad
TIJWAN HD Apparently Drogba lied too
TIJWAN HD Apparently Drogba lied too
The fact Higuita did it when he knew it was offside is better than risking it.
Are You guys really telling me that Pelé is a FRAUD?!?!??,YOU IS A FRAUD
Pele is real.Not a fraud
500 goals is 500 goals. No matter how they were scored. He was playing 5 "friendlies" in a week. I'd love to see anyone even try to do what Pèle did.
Like and your respective team will win their leauge!
Pelé won a world cup at age 17 as the man of the team... the two world cups he was suposed to play at his peak 62 and 66 he was removed from the cup by the oposition brutally in a era where red cards where not a thing... as for the regional cup campeonato paulista... the state of sao paulo in population and territory is and was since then bigger than most contrys in europe... yes it was a easier legue than the brasilian national league... but it was a era where most players played their carrers in their home country... that national league was harder to win a game in than any olther league in the world
just imagine how a brasillian league would look like today if every brasilian player in europe still played here
Regarding Pele - this blasphemous myth that the Brazilian League was weak at that time is straight up stupid. The European market wasn’t as strong as it is now.
Imagine a league where the golden Brazilian generation were all competing for the same cups? There’s only one goat and we know who it is #Pele

how can he be a fraud.
3 world cup
12 goals in world cups
felipe estay You have no life
yeah, but he was never a top scorer in any of those world cups.
Please.
This is a god damn Comment section,Not A google history check.
John Franks his 1st WC wasn't 1962 you fool
and how many goals did u score, thought so
Where is Paul Pogba. Jk
Gaming Duo Tricked a team to spend 90million pounds for him. Lol
Bang he is better than all of yout midfielders....
Do u even watch EPL man United games?
Vitor Marques You can say whatever you want, as long as it helps deal with the realization that you have a fraud on your team. 😂
He trashed arse anal s midfielders when we played against u guys...
The early bird gets the worm remember that and have a blessed day everyone
& don't forget to dab on them
You do realize that it is only pre season goals that don't count.
And also, there was no brazilian league and several competitions existed during that period, which doesnt mean that those games were friendlies, those tournaments most of the times included the biggest teams in the world with the likes of real madrid, juventus and many other brazilian or international sides.
what about how pele did at the world cups
In the 1958 team there were 10 players from São Paulo (from 5 different teams), and 12 players from Rio (from 5 different teams). 1962 had 13 from 4 different teams from São Paulo. 1970 team had 11 players from Sâo Paulo (from 5 different teams);
If you take a list of teams with most National Champions from the 60's until now, first, second, fourth and fifth places are teams from São Paulo - Palmeiras, Santos, Corinthians and São Paulo FC.
40 years later, we are calling them "farmer's league"
Well, Spain has 2 (maybe 3) strong teams; England has 4, Germany has 2, Italy I don't know anymore, 2 or 3.
I don't think that Pele is a fraud
Where's Paul Pogba?
that so called weak competition is not true
it was the best of sao paulo wich is pretty good sao paulo santos corinthians...
Even though it was offside, Higuita showed his class. He is not a fraud man
how can a team be without its manager? it has to be arsene wenger who does absolutely fxxk-all for ten years and somehow managed to convince the board to keep renewing his contract
and messi definitely doesn't come up against utter shit in la liga
Mr. Jugg
"utter shit" that dominates Europe
No. All teams in la liga Are good.
Mr. Jugg stop saying la liga is shit. The teams are probably better than in the Bpl. It's only because Barcelona are so good that they make the other teams look good and people assume that Barca win all their games 5-0 but that's rarely the case. Maradona is the best ever
saying pelé is a fraud is an extreme, ridiculous and clickbaiting overstatement.
How is it clickbaiting if they presented facts to prove that he was a fraud.
Pele was a great player - but a lot of his stats are misleading. Like the goals - and some people say hat brazil never lost a match with him - but it was actually when he and someone else played alongside each other i think. but don't get me wrong he was a legend and scored a brilliant goal in the world cup final
Ur channel is awesome
