    If you need to have a job title for the fancier or formal occasions, and you don’t want to use “RUclipsr”, here’s a suggestion:

    Hey Karolina! So glad to see you are having fun here on RUclips. It's always a good day for me when I can watch a new video from you!
    Rather than tape your process of sewing, which does take up a lot of space, maybe you could instead talk about your process of designing a new outfit. Where do you do your research? Who do you go to for the best tea about the fashions of the time period? I think that would be a very helpful video for people thinking about reenacting.
    Speaking of helpful, rather than watch acres of video about sewing an entire outfit, I tend to look for quick clips about a particular problem or technique. That could help your own sewing video dilemma.

    • @Philemaphobia
      @Philemaphobia 5 лет назад +43

      I get that one! Poland’s vintage scene is allowed to portrait Naziesque military fashion and there is interest to honor the WW2 time, being a direct neighbor to Germany, there are many similarities as well. Now put a ocean between the continents.... and people can’t tell the difference between both countries and anything european that’s 30‘s to 40‘s suddenly becomes a Nazi thing.
      I live in Germany and especially this era is just off the table for me (you cannot be aware of ‚our‘ history and still feel comfortable in 1930‘s clothes, no matter how beautiful and awesome, without feeling uneasy and wrong XD I‘m a little jealous

    • @ThePhantazmya
      @ThePhantazmya 5 лет назад +17

      @@Philemaphobia I guess I could understand that sentiment around military fashion but what does anything Karolina wear or do have to do with the military? Everyday fashion has nothing to do with politics (usually). Or at least it's only very tangentially related as in "oh we shun this look because so and so wore it, but we love this because someone popular wore it." Fashion history tends to be very divorced from the events going on in the world at the time people wore certain styles. The only thing I can think of besides military uniforms that has any direct connection to ww2 is the lack of silk for hosiery. By the 1930's a lot of fashion was international so German women were wearing the same kind of clothing English women were wearing and if people make connections between what a typical 1930's woman was wearing and an evil ideology it's super bizarre.
      I'm more inclined to believe the accusation is because the media has been on a crusade against RUclips and basically implying that everyone that uses this platform is either alt-right or at the very least being indoctrinated/ok with people being indoctrinated which is complete BS. Also the media has been crusading against any kind of nationalist sentiment good or bad and are exceptionally pro-EU imperialism pro-socialist so countries that want to keep their sovereignty like Poland and Hungry, perhaps because of their history of being consumed by a socialist dictatorship, are being painted with a very thick brush as being far-right which isn't fair.

    I think the dilemma of what gets received well vs. what doesn’t is such a big thing for anybody who makes creative content. Obviously videos are a different medium and format, but as a writer it can be really discouraging too... and it goes for personal works, fanfiction, pieces you’ve entered in competitions, pieces you try to get published... no matter the audience, I’m always left scratching my head and going “really? I'm so glad I found your channel, I know I speak for many when I say I appreciate all you do. One thing I really admire is your speaking style. Some videos are hard to watch because it feels like they are trying too hard, you on the other hand are so easy to listen to. Thank you! ❤️

    You know, I love you and your channel and really never thought or felt it needed "more sewing" videos because I LOVE LOVE LOVE your shit talking, historical rambling, and SKITS oh... lady I LIVE for your skits and short little movies. (Is the Witch coming back or is she still happily reading on that bench?) Especially the period ones. Ugh. You're such a fantastic person.

    Totally understand the sewing being a pain in the butt! I have fibromyalgia, so sewing is really exhausting for me.
    Don't regret not being able to make videos of the stripey dress. It was wonderful to see the finished product. Also, hook and eye tape might help?? You can cut it as short as you need and it has a semi stiff backing for support.
    "Making of" videos are some of my favourites to watch - they aren't tutorials, just creators documenting trying to make stuff. It'd pretty fun to watch you sass at a project, like the flower crown! Maybe timelapses?
    Always love your videos and can't wait for more content next year ☺️ love you big! ❤🥳

    I discovered your channel this year via a random RUclips recommendation and subscribed halfway through the first video. You have a lot of passion for your subject, you have a great sense of humor, your editing skills are top-notch, you always do your research, and I genuinely find your content fascinating. I've never been much of a fashion fellow, but I did minor in history and your insights are very intriguing. In short, I think you're brilliant.
    It probably sounds silly, but my personal metric of media success is: "I'm some random bloke from Ohio. If I know who you are and would buy you a round in thanks for your work, you've done alright. That's a pretty good worldly reach." :-P I hope you have a wonderful Christmas season, Ms. Zebrowska. Thank you for all your artistic endeavors this year.

  • @tfloyd6651

    In my eyes you are an artist. Your primary media is video, but you have also successfully ventured into still-life on fabric and have published a book or two. I say you are an artist because each time I come here I am gently challenged (in a good way, like real art challenges me) to look again at some aspect of life and to appreciate it in a new way. In my eyes, you are a master of your craft.
    I remember an early video, (I had to search through your archive to find the name) London, Chattsworth, Haworth. The storytelling (with no words, just music) was wonderful. You have a gift in your ability to choose material and to edit effectively. I watched the story of exploration unfold. I wanted to be there. I felt like I was there. I wondered at how different worlds can be. And when the video was done, I felt happy.
    You have grown as an artist. You use skits, historical circumstances, and wonderful costuming to open up dialogues about society and culture.
    Good art offers us a way to participate, not just sit on the sidelines of life. Whether it is a challenge to create a stripey dress, or a humorous observation about good manners, you offer gateways to participation. And I appreciate that.

    I started watching you a little more than a year ago and you're the whole reason why I started sewing historical costumes. I originally started watching your vintage hair tutorials and got hooked when I saw the regency GRWM. When it comes to sewing costumes I'm the opposite of you, I love the processes of sewing and learning new techniques, but I have yet to wear them in public.

    Dear Karolina, I started watching a few of your videos as they were suggested to me after I started following Rachel Maksy. I've never learned to sew and I don't know anyone who would have the patience to teach me, but your passion inspired me so much, and that's not me at all! I'm bad with using my hands (I'm more brainy - I like books and ideas), but that's probably because I'm not patient enough. I'd love to make clothes for my future children or even create something and give it as a gift to a loved one. That's an awesome "superpower". :P I share your love of history so it was a perfect way to introduce me to fashion in a way I can enjoy (because I don't care all that much about what people's wearing - but for some reason I'm now fascinated by the process involved in creating something on my own). I admire your work and I admire how much you care about improving your craft. ❤
    AND I knew you were Polish, I heard the accent (my half-polish husband never learned the language unfortunately as his mother didn't either - she grew up in France - but we made friends with amazing Polish people and they had a similar (stronger) accent. Beautiful language, food and culture! We'll visit Poland someday that's for sure!).
    PS: As a translator I had to talk about that; languages and cultures are my true passion. 😋

And I really love that you did a summary of your creations!!!!! It goes to show that we don't have to sew perfectly to achieve successful costumes (or daily wear for that matter!) I subscribed mainly because of your personality and the historical context you offer was secondary. It may not mean a whole lot as a random internet person, but it is quite the feat to convince a fashion challenged person such as myself to consider the subscribe button. Please keep the honesty, sarcasm and introspection rolling as it is an oasis among the cliche.

    You could make sewing vlogs where you pick up the camera in between steps and talk about the processes (what you’re doing/just did, things that are going well, problems and solutions, etc.) and show a little bit of time lapse. It would be a lot less intense than a tutorial. Angela Clayton and Costuming Drama have good examples of this. They can be project-specific or following a timeline.

    Girl. I’ve done strictly music for 5 years now, and it took me about 3-4 of those years to even accept that it was an actual job. I had people telling me it wasn’t a real job, and I needed another job, but I literally work sooooo much, and I made enough to finally move to Nashville this year. But I still struggle telling people what I do too. I laugh when I say it. 😂 I’m glad you said this, and I’m not alone in that awkward feeling of like... almost guilt that I do something fun for a living.
