  • Today we take a look around ITP Aero - Hucknall
, Harrier Business Park, Dorey Wy, Hucknall, Nottingham NG15 6EU.
A few emails came in about a constant noise in this area which is affecting residents at night.
We ride around the area and speak to lots of people in an attempt to locate the source.
    Enjoy!

DJ, the road lined with the concrete blocks is called Dorey Way and leads to the A611 Hucknall bypass. It’s publicly accessible so you would have had no issues with using it. Some of the local boy racers use it at night as a good place to practice doing handbrake turns and doughnuts. If you had walked down the road you would have seen the trees planted by RR as a act of remembrance to employees who have passed away. The facility has recently changed from being owned by RR to ITP Aero, they still make the same products, such as combustion cases and other assorted titanium fabrications. They sold off the airstrip several years ago - this land is now being used to build a new housing estate. When I worked there the RR Spitfire used to visit occasionally and would do an impromptu flyover and then land on the airstrip. I was lucky enough to be able to speak to the pilot and have a good look inside the plane’s cockpit. The site was originally an RAF base during WW2, hence the use of Hangar terminology, and was the location where an escaped German POW called Franz Von Werra tried to steal a Hurricane fighter and fly back to Germany. Rumour has it that he escaped from a local POW camp at Codnor Park and took on the identity of a pilot from the Royal Dutch airforce. His plan nearly worked, but his story started to unfold and he was arrested, reportedly whilst sitting in the cockpit of the Hurricane. He did eventually escape when he was being transported to a POW camp in Canada. He somehow escaped his Canadian guards and made it across the border, into the then neutral USA. He eventually made it back to Germany and rejoined his old Luftwaffe squadron. A few months later he was reported missing in action and presumed dead after he did not return from a mission.

@@hewings1 Cheers for that. A film was made called ‘The One that got Away’ starring the late Hardy Kruger as Franz Von Werra. You have to admire the conviction of the guy to return to Germany and fight for his country again, even though he was the ‘enemy’ I have the utmost respect for him.

A scrubber system is used in the removal of harmful and hazardous particulates from industrial gas streams before they are released into the environment. Scrubbers can be engineered to safely remove solids, mist, and gases while at the same time providing cooling.

@@NightShooter87 I live on a main road, which is part of the main cities ring road around the city. Vehicles are constantly driving and they don't bother me. However what does bother me, are the multiple daily speeders, a lot of which are in cars that have been customised to be loud, are supercars which are naturally loud, or quads.
I've seen the world's most expensive supercars flying past my house too, like Bugatti Chiron's and Veyron's, which are most likely owned by one of the two supercar dealers/customisers in my city. One of them even owns a number plate which he's refused to sell for millions.
There's a road a mile away from me going from West to East just like my road, which is even more busy, as the start of the motorway goes South at the beginning of it. There's quite a lot of houses all along that road, plus there's a housing estate which was built there around 10 years ago, on the site of an old school.
At the far end of the road connected to my road is a major North South road to the city centre. And at the far end of the previously mentioned busy road 2 miles East is another major North South road to the city centre. Both of the roads have houses on both sides.
There's an industrial estate 2 miles South of me (near where my sister lives) which is surrounded by houses, and can lead to the motorway depending which road you take.
There's an even bigger industrial estate 2 miles South East of me (near where one of my uncles live), which has houses on the North and East side of it, as the South and West of it is the start of the motorway.
However as far as I know, neither of them are noisy, however the one near my sisters has stunk of methane before.
There's also another industrial estate a mile North of me, in between the 2 of the 4 major roads into the city centre (which I've already mentioned), however there's not really any houses near it.

That is always the problem. Building new houses in places where there were no houses before, next to busnesses, farms etc, that are noisy, smelly, easily flooded or whatever. It is the planners fault for allowing new houses where there is a probability of a conflict between the incomers, who have unrealistic expectations, and existing businesses or hazards. The number of new houses that are built on flood plains for example is ridiculous, but planners still allow it, and then everyone acts all surprised when the houses get flooded, a few years later. The same goes for farms, factories, airports, railways. Don't move next to one if you don't like noise or smells.
Sound travels at night when everything else is quiet. When the wind is in the right direction, I can hear a railway or racetrack.which are 5 to 10 miles away.

There were some warehouses constructed near me (a few hundred metres away, too far to hear any noise through the air) over covid and there was a constant hum during the works process. It was about 26Hz I seem to remember, and it was strong enough to pick it up on a mic. I can only assume that the foundation levels of the warehouses and our houses are connected with clay, and one of the pieces of machinery was creating resonance that travelled through it. That's how I've explained it to myself anyway! Thankfully now the construction is over, so is the hum.

A lot of people report it to the council but they just go through the motions and close the complaint! It’s very noisy where we are , you should be able to enjoy your home , have your windows and doors open during nice weather, Ashfield District Council should be doing there job, who do you think allowed planning permission for the new houses to be built, they were already receiving complaints of noise before the new estate was built!

We have scrubbers at work. Ours work by a vacuum fan sucking out dust from the process and damping it down with water spray. The dust then mixed with the water goes to tanks then to an effluent treatment plant. Obviously the more dust you are producing the more work the vac pumps have to do, so they will speed up to produce higher vacuum. Hope this helps.

Hey DJ, subscribed now! I agree with you, this is definitely the source of the hum. With the exhaust/cooling fans running, the sound easily reflects off the buildings towards the houses plus the open fields around the factory allows the sound to travel out to great distances. The calmness of night will also make this prominent. cheers bra and have a great day.

Not sure about a hum, but remember being on Bestwood Country Park as a kid (90s) and hearing engine testing kick up on one of RR's outside test rigs. Someone mentioned 60db- this was a hell of a lot louder than that! Remember going on a tour round the place on an open day and seeing some of the test facilities. One of the tests was to fire a frozen chicken into the engine, to simulate a bird strike. Interesting site, has changed a bit bit over the past decades. Vertical take off jet was development there, as mentioned in the comments ("Flying Bedstead").

I lived on THAMESMEAD South East London. I could hear a hum overnight that would disturbe my sleep especially on hot nights
Although family and others said they could not.
However, i took the the opportunity to visit the local sewage processing plant on an open day. Part of the process was to use any methane gas to run some very large engines housed in the usual large industrial units.
Staff would open the access doors help cool the buildings became the source of my overnight hum. Especially if the prevailing West wind was blowing. The plant was about 2/3 miles away. Answer was to move away and thats why i am still beautiful, (i think ?):)

the scrubber unit captures particles from the air, imagine a hoover on full or a washing machine on a fast spin, they are sucking the air out probably from a conveyor shot blasting belt that is shot blasting parts to be cleaned before a coating is applied, the dust particles have been linked to being carcinogenic more so that asbestos to anyone inside or outside the plant, in other words its a huge air-conditioner driven by turbine fans the ac hum as you refer to it is the amount of airflow being filtered by it

Watched nearly all your vids great by the way just one thing that riles me you quick enough to point out if someone is doing something wrong or illegal or such but seems ok for you to break the law by riding your bicycle or your scooter for that matter on a public pavement with no afterthought whatsoever of what you're actually doing wrong as you obviously know pavements are for use of pedestrians only unless there is a bicycle/cycling lane so please stay legal off the pavements and ride on the roads or cycling lanes only. Love your videos though quite informative and educational keep it up 👍

He does on quite a few videos and it does my head in ever since they started splitting pavements in half for cyclists now cyclists think they are allowed to ride on all pavements I've owned a few bicycles in my 57 years and was always told and also taught not to use the pavements now these days when walking on a pedestrian pavement people have to dodge or move out of the way from some idiot on a bicycle, scooter or even skateboards its really annoying and its dangerous at times it really does riles me 😡😡 same with vehicles of all shapes and sizes parking on/blocking them. Pavements serve a purpose "pedestrian safety". Roads were first originally built for the better transfer of people from one place to another forward wind to today vehicles now share them roads with people who had pavements made for their safety from the then faster moving road users to cut a long story short. So anything that can move faster than people can walk must make use of the road leaving the purposely built pavements, walkways, sidewalks or whatever they are called in you own country for the safety of the people/pedestrians to walk along which by the way are now even narrower only room for just 1 person to use never lone 2 people to pass each other as for a baby pram or some pushchairs sometimes you got no chance especially the now split pavements room for 1 pedestrian and cycling path wide enough for a bus to drive down with signs telling pedestrians not to use the cycling path its absolutely pathetic worse modern idea of all times cycling paths on pavements any shape or form cycling lanes in the road fine no problem with them whatsoever ok I'll leave it there I've had my little whine [[ pavements for people and roads for anything faster ]] 👍🤜💥🤛

@@kingofwales3953 a car and a cycle are very different and it is nice to know you are a bootlicker. There has been many times I have seen a car mounted on a pavement driving, whether that be to get around cars on a tight street, to access their driveway, to access a road to the back of a set of shops where there are some garages. Even seen police cars driving on pavements to attend whatever emergency they were going to. Are we going to prosecute every single one of those? Complaining over something that has no actual meaning, no one cares about riding on the pavement, not when we have massive amounts of stabbings, illegal immigrants, county lines drug dealers, White people saying something on Twitter the people in power don't like, etc etc. We have a huge crime pandemic going on in our country and you want the focus to be on folks on cycles riding on a pavement, very slowly, in a very sparse area, while making something you enjoy? Wouldn't want to be your friend. Imagine you call the police on your friends all the time ay? Bet you have a few civil matters ready to go to court too? or have in the past. The law regarding cycles on pavements was introduced in the 1800s. do you think it needs updating? Growing old never seemed so unappealing.

I mean come on read up or just Google, when did ITP make a jet engine?

    • @michaeljohnson-li5nn
      @michaeljohnson-li5nn 2 года назад

The engine test beds at Hucknall were closed down several years ago. Engine testing was moved to over to Derby. They did undertake the ‘fan blade off’ testing at Hucknall, and the bird ingestion tests. I can remember several senior managers coming over to site to witness the blade off test on the Trent 900 engine. The engines themselves are utterly destroyed in this test, but it’s is vital to do these tests to prove the integrity of the fan case itself to retain all the debris released when the fan blade is detached from the engine.

“Scrubbers are air pollution control devices that use liquid to remove particulate matter or gases from an industrial exhaust or flue gas stream.
This atomized liquid (typically water) entrains particles and pollutant gases in order to effectively wash them out of the gas flow.”
You can get electrostatic scrubbers too, to remove dust with a static charge which attracted the dust and drops it into a silo.
