This is the first time I learned that you have to go through a procedure to lock the diff on the Jeep. On my F150, you just pull out the switch and that’s it. That’s not good if you want or need to quickly engage.
I don’t know what’s going on here. As long as I’m in 4WD I can just flip the switch to lock up the diffs. I have a Wrangler, but I’m guessing it’s the same.
That little raptor looks like a blast to run hard. That jeep was a bit of a let down when it floundered at high speed. I love jeeps but that gladiator makes zero sense. What if you had a family of four, a bed full of camping/fun gear, and a 4000lb boat. Can you safely make that trip? Probably..but not by the payload numbers. Give me the rusty axles.
Well, for starters, you would not be looking at getting this jeep if your intended uses were not a match for it... Paraphrased... "These apples I bought taste nothing like the organges that I wanted."
I've done it and it start overheating at 60mph with the ecodiesel at least but carrying well over 5500 lbs boat. As long as you stay at 60 it is all good. I don't know if the rr can pull a full boat 5500 + lbs a loaded bed and 5 inside either. But I still love my ecodiesel which still give me 15/16 mpg loaded like that on 35s😂
Low gear in a Mojave runs max 50mph. Dont know that it would have made a difference, but definitely has factor all it's own. Oh- and 1133 pound payload on my 2021. I think the diff Is because of all the "X" goodies.
I watched this after buying a Mojave last night. First, Canadian prices are insane. I looked at both trucks. In Arizona, the Raptor is around 65k. I picked up my Mojave for 42k brand new. They list here around 50k. I got an end of the year deal. The independent suspension on the Raptor makes it what it is. A solid axle Mojave, or any Jeep, isn’t going to perform at speeds in whips like a Raptor. Though marketed as “desert runners” they are vastly different. As far as power, the Jeep seemed good enough. Though the Raptor is fun to drive.
Payload is ridiculous on the Jeep. Trailer tongue weight and one or two adults would put you over the limit. Yes, that rust is crazy on a brand new truck.

They’ve been doing this gimmicky game for several years now. The Durango Hellcat was a limited production, then a year later they did another run. The dodge demon was a limited run. Huge collectors incentive. 3 years later they did an even better demon. It’s all become overrated
Personally, the raptor winning on the speed test has a lot to do with different things; tires, front suspension, etc. Also, desert is different than what your driving in. That said, the price analysis is I think misunderstood based on what I have researched. Raptor and Mojave are top end trucks so they will be high dollar and that is what you are comparing, fair enough. Yet in another video on the gladiator your dad talked about sticker shock on the price of the Mojave, so let's talk. The Sport and Sport S for Jeep Gladiator are every bit as capable off road and probably better on road because of the tires and it is FAR less expensive. My point is, it punches above it's pay grade because Jeep is making a lot more standard: 4x4, 12.3 touch screen with all tech trimmings, best in class backseat legroom, convertible, more skid protection which is best in class. Point is, all of that stuff is options that drives up price in the midsized segment. I think a lot of people are sleeping on the entry trims on the gladiator and I think the gladiator is misunderstood in the midsize truck segment. The entry trim can be bought in US for as little as 34k in some places, you will not find that deal anywhere else for a midsized 4x4 truck with class leading off road capability. This is what "it drives like a Jeep" means. I don't own one yet, it is likely what I would buy though.
Big no. Co worker of mine got that base 34k gladiator.... Manual windows and no power locks is enough for me to not recommend it to anyone. Imagine paying 34k for a vehicle and having to roll up your windows manually...
I think the Gladiator Sport "S" Max tow might be the unknown unsung option. Heavy frame , wider axles of Rubicon, lift of a Rubicon , 4:10 gearing and limited slip rear differential. Add in Torque grip auto locking front spiders in the front differential or True Trac and it would be formidable off road and more useful. Only downside would be the Jeep motors
Not a great comparison since they are very different trucks. For two different purposes. One great feature on the jeep are the removal roof panels and doors. I think the jeep is more versatile the ranger has the high speed power.
Right when you were going to do the ditch crossing with the Jeep, you said you were in 4hi but showed the dash which indicated you were in 4 auto instead....you should do that test and the ruts section again but in part time 4WD and see what kind of difference you get.
Great Test. This gave me a better idea on how these trucks preform off-road. I would pick the Ranger Raptor for the powertrain and high speed handling.
Don't forget the rock rails(Jeep) vs side step. So, even with it's worse breakover angle, the Jeep will just drag on those rails. Plus, better approach, better clearance, better skid plates. And how about that steel bumper? Can a high lift jack be used on that? It will probably protect from brush and shrubs better than will the Raptor. Plus, it was down right good at the high speed work compared to most 4WD vehicles out there................................... But the Raptor was just so much nicer in that category! Pros and cons. But in the end, 13K USD cheaper, I have to go with the Ford no matter what type of off roading I do, and then I will appreciate the suspension and power every day on road. Still, I hear some spectacular discounts are available on Jeeps these days, so maybe in real world current conditions there is not much difference in price? ............................ One final thing to muddy the waters so to speak. That front locker on the Raptor. But, the traction management PLUS greater front end articulation(solid axle) might make up for a lot of that missing benefit. And worse come to worse, if if I found I ever actually needed the front locker, I can just add one pretty easy to the Jeep. I bet numerous mods will be pretty easy on the Jeep, and maybe cheaper? For me, if I could get the price of the Jeep closer to the Raptor, it would be a hard choice. At least if I did a lot of hard core mud bogging and rock crawling. If not, it would be hard to not go with the Ranger.
I would be interested in that match up. Colorado will be down on power right off the bat. Its too bad GM doesn't add in options for higher power options.

great review Stephan/Howard , your dad is going to look like a second dart board after this video from all the mosquito bites, 😂 Ford has had their issues with the 3.0 twin turbo my brother was looking at either the Ranger Raptor or Bronco Raptor and the sales Rep advised against it , oh and it goes like stink no doubt, so he is waiting to see what Ford says about it, i think he is just going to take the Bronco with the twin turbo six its got tons of snot and is in the colour he likes, me i would take the Gladiator , i like the body style and the old school solid axles and for payload these easily take a 1000 pounds total with no issues or more and no turbos to consider just regular maintenance and Jeep has massive incentives right now , they're almost giving stuff away and i do agree with one commenter that Jeep should offer the new twin turbo i6 as an option for Jeep customers, I'll just take the V6 👍
Ranger Raptor is a Bronco Raptor at over 30k less $$ . . . more comfortable, killer powertrain, payload and price difference make it an easy call . . . and the independent front suspension will make it a lot better daily driver to boot . . . then factoring in the price difference - can't imagine anyone who is not a dies hard jeep person wanting the Gladiator over the Ranger (and I didn't even mention the appearance . . . just my opinion but I have always thought the Gladiator was one of the least appealing looking vehicles on the road - but there are a ton of them out there so some folks sure like them!)
As I’m a jk owner, 2016 and she’s rock ready.. Finally got my jlu 4xe , leasing.. ever since I got my first one, that was it. Looking at the Mojave, and not needing another “rock crawler”, but desert rated sounds really kool, and to know Jeep has different suspension setup for that model is kool as well, I’ve turned into a Jeep snob 😎.. But seeing that they both were kinda close in crawling, which Jeep will always win, but high speed is what Jeep is not, well wrangler anyway… Really close, but price point, and functionality “overlanding”, I think I’ve just been convinced, after this lease is up, go raptor, because I don’t need another crawler, and having speed in a trail sounds really fun and better feeling suspension is always a plus, like I said, I already have a crawler.. This might have been the video that changed my mind ❤️✌🏿
I can buy a brand new rubicon or Mojave for 45k. Big discounts off MSRP to be had. The cheapest raptor is 55k. No turbocharged bs, plus the doors and roof come off. Not to mention the ranger looks too round imo. Live front axle too. And I can promise you that chicks will always prefer a roof/doors off jeep over a ranger
Are you buying the tires for less than a thousand miles of use? Are you going to ask Ford and Jeep for permission to alter their vehicles for RUclips video? Do you have any idea how impractical you sound?
Again, I think Jeep is doing what Toyota has done with the Taco. Where are these ground clearances coming from? The Bronco manages 11.5” with 35s and everyone else is doing it with 33s?
They’re bash plates on the Ford, not skid plates😜. Same off-road performance but the Ford is much better on road, it’s a pretty easy choice if you’re not a die hard Jeep fan
thats retarded, compare it to a diesel gladiator with a mopar lift from the factory and 37s then lol. It wouldnt be a contest on anything short of high speed shit which no one ever does
Like the Ford better! With a slight lift, the Raptor would have more clearance. It is a wide truck though and perhaps not the best for narrow mountain trails.
It always irritates me when truck review channels say "This top end truck has all this equipment that you paid 20 grand extra for to tackle these obstacles, but we are not going to use them for it!" Its right up there with "We are going to let crawl control take us up this hill!" for me :D

@@shiftymcgee9359They seemed to have fixed it on my 2023 F150 Tremor. No underbody rust at all. Perhaps they saw the underbody rust on this RUclips channel.
@@JT012 no, it got attention during the pandemic when trucks were waiting for microprocessors. Rust is visible on TFL press vehicles also. I have zero rust issues on my 2023 Bronco. But surface rust is found on other new trucks.
Have you owned both
As soon as I got my RR home from the dealer, I painted the drive shafts and a few other places showing some surface rust...ten minute job. The Australian and European trucks are painted from the factory.
Will we be able to see Green, the 71', as well as the 24' 3500 Before summers out Steve ?? How's Howard these days??
Don't forget the jeep maybe less wide, which means less brush pin stripes on the trail.
And less cargo capacity. It's a truck after all.
great review Stephan/Howard , your dad is going to look like a second dart board after this video from all the mosquito bites, 😂 Ford has had their issues with the 3.0 twin turbo my brother was looking at either the Ranger Raptor or Bronco Raptor and the sales Rep advised against it , oh and it goes like stink no doubt, so he is waiting to see what Ford says about it, i think he is just going to take the Bronco with the twin turbo six its got tons of snot and is in the colour he likes, me i would take the Gladiator , i like the body style and the old school solid axles and for payload these easily take a 1000 pounds total with no issues or more and no turbos to consider just regular maintenance and Jeep has massive incentives right now , they're almost giving stuff away and i do agree with one commenter that Jeep should offer the new twin turbo i6 as an option for Jeep customers, I'll just take the V6 👍
Yeah I agree. The ranger is the clear winner
Mojave just looks better.
But seeing that they both were kinda close in crawling, which Jeep will always win, but high speed is what Jeep is not, well wrangler anyway…
Really close, but price point, and functionality “overlanding”, I think I’ve just been convinced, after this lease is up, go raptor, because I don’t need another crawler, and having speed in a trail sounds really fun and better feeling suspension is always a plus, like I said, I already have a crawler..
This might have been the video that changed my mind ❤️✌🏿
Payload number is weird. I’ve always seen just under 1100 lbs for Mojaves. Maybe that over priced X package adds a bunch of weight? 🤷♂️
Thanks Howard!! I also want your opinions!
The answer is always Jeep at least for me lol.
Gay
Why do you have 4H and in under 35mph? Shouldn't you be in 4L? Thanks
Contest which one breaks down first 😅
Nothing like a jeep
trucks should have same tires for tests.
The point is to test them as they come from the factory, right?
Are you buying the tires for less than a thousand miles of use? Are you going to ask Ford and Jeep for permission to alter their vehicles for RUclips video?
Do you have any idea how impractical you sound?
I hope the new Hurricane engine will be available in the jeep soon .
Ranger Raptor all day!
The RR os hands down just the better vehicle. Period.
Give the Ranger raptor a 1 inch lift, more aggressive tires and a rock rail instead of side steps and she's the clear winner.
thats retarded, compare it to a diesel gladiator with a mopar lift from the factory and 37s then lol. It wouldnt be a contest on anything short of high speed shit which no one ever does
Also needs a removable roof.
@@hommedammn7132 I could care less about the removeable roof these days due to autoimmune skin disease and sunburn
FORD and JEEP pricing is too much here in Canada. I would buy the ZR2 Colorado and save 15K.
Tests like this also need to include daily use, because even if an owner off-roads these things it's probably only about 5% of its usage.
Ranger Raptor for sure!
Did you have the off road plus enabled? It changes throttle and traction control behavior. Might have had some better results with that enabled.
The jeep is simpler, jeep wins
Like the Ford better! With a slight lift, the Raptor would have more clearance. It is a wide truck though and perhaps not the best for narrow mountain trails.
What value do you give the fully convertible features of the Jeep? To me, that's what tips the scales in favor of the Glady
It always irritates me when truck review channels say "This top end truck has all this equipment that you paid 20 grand extra for to tackle these obstacles, but we are not going to use them for it!" Its right up there with "We are going to let crawl control take us up this hill!" for me :D
So you're irritated when they dont use the equipment, and also when they do use the equipment?
@@ALMX5DP Someone got the idea that you shouldn't use Crawl Control on hills and it's getting parroted around. I've seen comments like that on my channel as well.
Pretty sure the Gladiator Mojave was built for the desert…just my guess…
The Pentastar for a high speed machine? I'll serve leftovers to my guests but won't say it's the best I can do.
The Mojave looks so much better! I may be a little biased because I own one! lol
Ranger Raptor all the way!
Can y’all get ground clearance measurements from different spots under these trucks?
Ranger Raptor for the WIN! One wish, Where’s the Sunroof FORD?
I Agree 👍
Basically, put a levelling and some 315 70 17 on the Raptor cause clearance is the challenge
It would be great to see people remove the step and install some frame hugging rock rails..
